80 - 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.
70 - 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is a soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 - 69: A below average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 - 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.
To make sure that you get to enjoy the Vie en Rosé this summer I tasked my intern Leon to search for the exciting, highly rated Rosés on Cellar Tracker and I will taste his selection for you and tell you everything you need to know about this.
Rosé is one of the most seasonal wine styles and I rarely open a bottle of Rosé in autumn and winter. It is also a fast growing wine category and more and more producers are trying their luck producing some great but also many boring Rosés I am going to rate the wines according to the 100 Point system and all the information on that can be found below.
I LOVE Rosé. Gorgeous, young, vibrant…they’re always perfect for an afternoon on the porch. ❤❤❤
♥ the glasses!
Konstantin was channelling his inner Bono from U2 spirit animal. Those shades were insane
Finally a new video! I'm not a huge rose fan but at least now I have some insight into different rose wines.
Ty for all your reviews. I’m another enthusiast slowly learning and you’ve helped a lot
Bonavita Etna rose' , not only my all time favorite rose' but one of my all time favorite wine, just spectacular look for it if you want to surprise your palate, trust me.
Favourite in the the last few years is the T&J Rose by Castillo di Montepo. Beautiful use of Biondi-Santi’s BBS11 Sangiovese Grosso
Albert levasseur extrait gourmand brut rose champagne and sylvain bailly la louee Sancerre rose. Fabulous!! Excellent video and explanation of rose. Thank you!
Would have been interested in hearing a review of the Tondonia Gran Reserva Rosado. In fact a whole video on LdH’s range would be cool.
Their Reserva Blanco is phenomenal, just wish I could find an try a gran reserva
Yes. Lopez de Heredia special please. An go visit their cellar in haro. i loved it there.
I am so greedy for the Heredia pink. I always have it when it’s on a list and never manage to age any bec they get drunk.
I used to despiiise White Zinfandel. We call it some very unflattering names here haha. BUT I know it sounds heretical, but pop some ice cubes in that Beringer, or some cold selzer, and it totally changes. Think of it as a great base for wine cocktails and punches.
Love a nice Tavel, I am definitely a rose fan. Like trying the interesting natural roses, the bum bum cha looks like a fun one!
I buy a 6 pack of Tempier most vintages, drink 3 immediately then hold 3 to spend 2-3 years in the cellar. It actually ages quite well! Delicious wine. Cheers 🥂
I love Bailly-Lapierre Cremant de Bourgogne Rose, from the area around Irancy in Burgundy.
Love the rose-tinted introduction. 😎
I tried the NV Billecart Salmon Champagne Brut Rosé France for the first time last month and I have to say that it was fantastic! My wife and I enjoyed a bottle with her family over dinner and it paired so well with a variety of foods - vegan to meat dishes. Even though it is pricey, my opinion is that it is worth it - especially since it is a special occasion beverage.
Man I patiently wait for your videos! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Had today a bottle of Cave the Lugny Cremant de Bourgongne Rose Brut on the terrace to some self made bbq, which is a very nice sparkling Rose. Considering the attractive price point of about 12 Euro per bottle this offers a great PQR and is my favorite so far in this years rose wines.
My favorite roses are from Tavel-Mordoree, Acqueria, and Trinquevedel.
love your content, thank you 😊
Bilecart is the benchmark for all Rose champagnes.. Maybe even for Rose's in gemeral🌹❤️
Best rosé for me so far has to be Ruinart... but Kaena's offering out of Los Olivos is the fave to keep on hand.
Love the tasting. I was inspired to put a bottle in the fridge for later.
Willamette Valley in Oregon is making some very nice Rose these days, with Sokol Blosser being my favorite to date.
We tasted quiet some higher end rosé, including the Tondonia. Considering price and availabilty, Domina del Águila would be the best, but the most impressive one we tasted was the one made by Château Le Puy. In the end of the day it does come down to personal taste, the mood and the bottle ;)
Tough job retasting on the terrace! Our sangiovese rose is a big hit. Perfect with grilled salmon, all the fat and smokieness.
Been learning a lot. Tend to gravitate towards red wines, but have been opening up more to others and have been enjoying the process. Thanks for the videos and sharing your insights. (hoping to see you review some WA state wines...)
Alcohol News it s our new channel,enjoy! ➡️ ua-cam.com/video/tIfzSSkDM3Q/v-deo.html !🤞
I don't even drink alcohol, however I find your videos quite Entertaining.
So far my favorite rosado was from Barboursville vineyard in Virginia it was made with Nebbiolo
I would go Nestarec out of these! Really struggle with young Tempier pinks, but ageing some. Beautifully produced episode.
My favorite Rose wines come from Tavel. I’m really liking Domaine des Carteresses. Great with many dishes or on its own.
Chavignol - Pascal Cotat... Very very nice one
Well, I'm not that much of a Rosé guy, but there are 2 Rosé wines I quite enjoy, depending on the occasion. One of them is the French VENTENAC Carla Rosé. I personally enjoy the fact that the wine has a low amount of acidity and of residual sugar. It makes the wine easy to drink, especially on hot summer nights.
The Other one is something completely different. It’s the Marogne Veronese Rosato from Italy and I think this Rosé is quite controversial. It is a lot heavier than other Rosé in comparison, part of it is the process of aging the wine in barrique barrels. The wine is quite dry and has a lot of characteristics of red wine. Nevertheless, the wine is perfect for some BBQ with red meat and most of the things you will find on your grill. The wine is a strange but welcome alternative for nice summer dinner with friends.
Billecart Salmon Champagne Brut Rosé is such a good one. I had it a few days ago and ordered a few bottles after tasting. A perfect drink for a hot summer at the beach or in the garden.
One excellent sparkling rose is McBride Sisters Brut Rose from New Zealand
I’m a big fan of the Nervi, Clos Tibouren and the Tempier from the video. Great choices!I also love Judith Beck Pink and GD Vajra’s Rosato - these two are regulars in our house.
No mention of Tavel in a rosé video? How come?
Got the Clos Cibonne in my cellar, won't get home for the next two months though - that's one thing to really look forward to!
Podere Pradarolo's "Velius" rosé was an eye-opening experience for me, and made me want to try more rosé wines!
Alcohol News it s our new channel,enjoy! ➡️ ua-cam.com/video/tIfzSSkDM3Q/v-deo.html !🤞
Rose is way down my pick list but I enjoy your content so still listen for the educational and informational value! Thank you Konstantin
You are so welcome!
Of the bottles you tasted, I've had, and really enjoyed, the Clos Cibonne and Billecart-Salmon. When I was younger I also drank my fair share of Beringer Zinfandel Rosé.
Favorite Rosé: My go to bottle of rosé is Chateau d'Esclans Whispering Angel. But if I got the money to spend, then I'd go with Billecart-Salmon Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon.
I like La Bargemone cuvée Marina; just had a bottle of Cibonne and it was ci bonne. In rosé I don´t want too much challenge; I prefer a simple, happy wine to go with the season and friends. Thanks for this review! My local wine shop usually carries about 40 different rosés in the summer. Lots to choose from.
Easy: the best rosé I ever drank (yes, I drink!) was a Marques de Murrietta. I need to try Lopez de Heredia in rosé...
Unlike other wine styles, I tend to not over analyze rose (at least as much!). It’s just refreshing and fun to drink when the weather is warm, and is food friendly. Still, I have my favorites. Not to be cliche, but my wife and I love Cotes de Provence, or wines made in that style from other places. Sometimes, though, I enjoy a rose with a little more gravitas, like Tavel or (if I can find one) one from Gigondas. Oregon has some Pinot Noir roses I’ve started enjoying, as well.
My fav rose ---- OTT --- and the cheaper version OTT-lite
Try South Africa and the Loire
Excellent examples from Bordeaux + especially the Rhône
most known Gewurztraminer are pink but my Uncle from Alsace had white skin.Famous institutes have pinkish skin
According to CT I have 53 bottles of Rosé in the cellar of which 32 is Clos Cibonne 😅
Although I do also have quite a lot of "orange" wine in similar style to the Gewürz. A matter a fact I'm sipping on an orange gewürz from Alsace right now (2020 Kumpf & Meyer Utopiste) - those kind of wines goes a lot here at home as they're just perfectly refreshing in the mediterranean heat.
Hi Konstantin, great video as always! I was just curious to know what score you would give the Rennersistas Gewürz ?
I love your videos, I love your style. Damn good! Sun is shining, the weather is sweet! :')
I love rose wines, including really rare and even crazy wines like the Duzsi Tamas Cabernet Franc (Hungary, Szekszard, 16% abv barrel aged late harvest wine made from botrytized grapes but vinified bone dry). The oldest non-fortified rose I've ever tasted was Gitton's Sancerre rose 1980 and 1986. The wines were alive, who would expect that?
Konstantin, the only one I have in my cellar is the Bandol. Every once in a while I try others from about the same area if they include Mourvèdre. You can (at least if you read the labels on the bottle) taste the layers of the grape varieties - if you have enough phantasy. That does not mean they are not integrated. If the wine is goed they are and form part of the pleasure. When I have guests not that familiar with wine I usually tell them about the Dom Tempier: "one of the best rosés of France". So I was quite anxious about your opinion. What should I tell my guests if you put it down? Now everything's fine. Thanks! I'll keep drinking it with even more confidence. Not love it more, of course (not possible 😄). The price I pay is slightly above 20 EUR per bottle, obviously less than your USD price. I'll try the Bum Bum Cha. Really nice name, popart bottle, interesting find.
Hi Konstatin! I love your videos, especially tasting videos as it gives me very clear ideas on what to try and what is worth the price. I am a huge fan of Tuscan wines. Sangiovese is likely my favorite varietal. I would love to see a video where you talk about Tuscany, Super Tuscans and tasted some iconic Tuscan wines like Tignanello, Solia, Sassicaia, etc! Keep making great videos! :)
I used to import Chateau Fontlade from the Coteaux Varois… unfortunately the property has changed hands and I am unsure if they still produce any wines today. That was a treat.
The sun is shining… from this dark cellar 😂
Just with the glass in relation to the Rose champagne, I have gone to a few tastings lately in Australia and some of them are now leaning towards using a wider glass or at the very least not a typical champagne flute. The flute seems to be a thing of the past for champagne now.
Yeah, flutes are out.
Rosé is by far my favorite type of wine. Everything from its versatility to the way it looks in the bottle before you open it, fits what I really enjoy in a wine. What Rosé is my favorite? I'm not picky. But I think Alexander Valley Sangiovese Rosé tops my list so far.
Alcohol News it s our new channel,enjoy! ➡️ ua-cam.com/video/tIfzSSkDM3Q/v-deo.html !🤞
You should try orange wines if you like rose
Hi Konstantin, which are some of your favorite Syrahs? Perhaps you could do a video comparing some of the best-known Syrahs from the Northern Rhone, California, Chile, Australia, and the Swartland? (PS - I'm biased towards South African wines so I would love you to include some more on your channel.) 🙏
Clos Cibonne Tibouren is the rosé that made me like rosé. Like someone said in a different comment, it is a wine drinker's wine. But after your tasting I am going to try some Domaine Tempier.
Love guessing what your score will be for the ones I’d drunk before. Fun times!
Yes, a Nebbiolo rose does sound interesting. Good review!
I wouldn’t say no to a glass of Domaine Ott Chateau Romassan Rosé Bandol served at 10 degree C on a hot and sunny day.
Lovely video, as always. May I suggest you get a-hold of a Murganheira Czar Cuvée Bruto? Tremendous sparkling.
I really enjoy Thymiopoulos' Earth and Sky, Rose de Xinomavro, which is quite a gastronomical rosé and goes great with Mediterranean vegan dishes.
I had the 2014 Domaine de Terrebrune Bandol Rose and it was almost like drinking a light body red at their cave temperature. Elegant and interesting. It might be more refreshing if slightly chilled or in a chilled glass.
Surprised to see no rose from LAnguedoc ROussillon. So many great values and top quality one from there. Especially the one from Roussillon. You should try Miraflors by Domaine Lafage. I find overal they have similar quality to provence one but with a lighter and/or more refreshing finish
Also on interesting one i tried was a Picpoul rose, really unique
As he said he was retasting the wines and he got wasted! Every time he took a sip the wine tasted better than before. And then he had to compare it with the other wines. So that's (nk) permutations. So that's 9*8/1*2=36 permutations. If he took half a deciliter per permutation that amounts to 1.8 l in that session. His wife had to pull him up from underneath the table where he intended to make love to the rug.
I'm thrilled about a rosé from Markus Huber/Niederösterreich right now. Such a beautiful blend!
Hi Konstantin, recently discovered your channel and find it the best wine reviewing and info channel around. I was wondering if you could offer any of your thoughts on half bottles of good champagne? I don't know if it's video-worthy for doing a direct comparison experiment with a few, but would you say in your experience that something like Pol or Bollinger in a half bottle generally wont taste as good as from larger bottles? I've read a few wine critics saying that half bottles "age too quickly", and so the flavour of these champagnes will never be quite as good as from bigger bottles. Is this nonsense or have you ever found this to be true?
Thanks for any advice!
You should do a tasting on Australian wines, and not just shiraz! love the channel, keep it up!
Another excellent video! I rarely drink a rose, but I have a renewed interest in them now that you’ve done this tasting. Thanks to COVID I’ve had parosmia for over a year now. I used to adore a good Shiraz or Pinot Noir and especially red wines from South Africa. Unfortunately, parosmia makes them taste terrible (and smell much the same). However, it hasn’t curbed my interest in good wines - one of these days I’ll be able to raise a glass while watching another of your videos. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share!
I’m surprised that there were no wines from Tavel on the list from CellarTracker. I enjoy Chateau Trinquevedel, and think it’s a great value.
Seriously. When I see Rose sections on a list or in any capacity I look for Tavel. Such a deeply flavored style of rose I don't understand why more people don't capitalize on it.
My most purchased and drank rose is the allimant laugher cremant d’Alsace. It’s like strawberry shortcake in a glass and really affordable for the quality
Been greatly enjoying learning about wine with your videos! As an absolute beginner I tend to enjoy a Peter Sölva Lagrein quite a lot.
I’m ignorant of rosê and think of it as either white Zinfandel or something almost painfully dry. Haven’t had much in years and I should try some again.
The only thing missing in this tasting is the Lopez de Heredia Rosado. Oxidized notes yet fresh. It's a contradiction at its finest.
Nice informative video as always. Of those I've only tried the Muga and the Domaine Tempier (which I really liked).
Personally I really like Tavel rosé and recently I've been exploring German Spätburgunder ones. The Schlossgut Diel Rosé was really nice I think.
Also Austrian rosé from Zweigelt I find very nice. Jurtschitsch and Jamek make good very nice ones in my opinion.
That was by far the most generous review of Beringer white zin I've ever heard
It’s because he’s European and therefore hasn’t spent too much time drinking it. American reviewers have, and like Konstantin said, it gets old.
I would love to see more wines from Austria on your channel, maybe a video about the wines from the Thermenregion south of Vienna? I think there are a lot of unknown or underrated gems there in those small, local wineries.
I'm not a big fan of rose wines, but the ones I prefered were the Tibouren that you have tasted in the video and a Gidondas Rosé from Pierre Amadieu!
Pierre Amadieu is a great producer for the price. I visited last month and had their 2012 pas de l’aigle with dinner in Lyon that had aged beautifully.
@@tekaldas yeah I agree, the son is a friend of me so I have tasted some wines from this winery :p and I tasted the one you have and yeah, the pas de l'aigle age very well and it's a nice quality/price!
quite happy with the Rabble Syrah Rose from Paso Robles.
Thanks for a great video. 👏
Tempier is always top level....simply loving it.....would love to try rosé tibouren (I have tasted the red one which was pretty good). To my opinion Ott has also high level rosé wines, and of course as already mentioned Tavel.
Humble question, when you do these kind of tastings and open these many bottles at once, what do you do with them? Consuming all over the next few days or discard them (wich I don't hope)?
Drink, share and discard 😁
Can we be friends?
Flor de Muga rosé is my favourite rosé - definitely worth giving a go if you see it!
Rose coloured glasses, I get it.
Thanks for the video, i'm a big fan of the Tondonia rosado and the Marqués de Murrieta primer rosé, gonne try some of the wines you presented!
Thanks for another amazing wine-tasting video! I didn't really appreciate Rose until I tried a bottle from Provence about six years ago. It changed my perspective entirely. You have done many tastings of wines from around the world. I was just wondering if there were enough wineries from some of the outre regions that produce Rose that would ever warrant a tasting of Roses from places that one wouldn't expect Roses to come from?
There’s some decent bottles here.
I’m going to guess that the Cibonne will score highly here, if not for simply being a true Wine Drinker’s Wine, as opposed to a Rosé Drinker’s Wine.
Favorite rose was either the Gut Oggau Maskerade Rose 2020 or the Els Jelipins Rose. The Gut Oggau was electric and buoyant while the Els Jelipins was more savory and brooding, yet still refreshing. Go to would have to be Moulin de Gassac Guilhem Rose 2020 since it's $10 and completely non-offensive.
The Gewurz caught my attention - Burgenland is mostly known to me for its red wines (as well as dessert wines of Welschriesling) so I was not aware that Gewürztraminer was grown there.
Amazing video. Thank you.
I like the Muga Rose
I'm a sucker for Anjou based rose, I've never really loved the dry provence style like many in the trade. If I'm going to drink rose it's usually off dry "Pool party wine", but I love tasting dry styles in case I find the odd bottle that wins me over.
Fascinating and educational Thanks
Something that I have never seen but always been intensely curious about is the Vina Tondonia Rosado Gran Reserva (or actually any rose under the Vina Tondonia label) by R Lopez de Heredia. The idea of an extended barrel maturation of a rose is positively fascinating.
Loved the illegal rose! haha
Fascinating as I usually avoid buying Rose, however I do commit winecrime by adding a splash of haute cote de Nuits to some pouilly fuisse, great wine for under £20 imo
My favorite: Château Simone - Palette appélation of Provence - grenache, mourvèdre - a food wine , needs aging. (Not cheap) Second: Minuty (also from Provence).
Medium price)
Soito rosé from Viseu, Portugal; Quinta do Perdigão rosé, Dão, Beiras, Portugal. Champagne - Moët & Chandon Impérial Rosé. Video was helpful, can't wait to taste Tempier Bandol🤩. Thank You!
Thanks a lot for another exciting tasting! I like very much the rose wines of Sacha Lichine, like Rock Angel and Whispering Angel. Also, the style of Rose d'Anjou is very appealing to me because of its sweet-and-sour balance, quite like Vouvray. And one of the most non typical and interesting rose that I tasted was Tavkveri in Georgia, which is quite dark and intense rose, because it is made from Saperavi grape, which is tenturier.
Amber wines, like the Gewurz in your tasting, is really a separate and distinct style for me. Do you think that aromatic or semi aromatic varieties are better for amber wines than neutral ones?
Hey Konstantin! I’ve been wondering where/why there are commonly notes of strawberry and raspberry in Rose. Is this compound found in the berry, skins or due to the wine’s processing? Thanks in advance, cheers from BC Canada!
Hi Constantin, would you consider adding wine&food pairing suggestions to your fabulous tasting notes? 😊
