Turning Factory SXS Taillights into Turn Signals | CFMoto Z950 Sport
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 лют 2021
- In this video, I finally tackle my arch nemesis of the CFMoto Z950...rear turn signals with the factory taillights! Let me tell you, they work FLAWLESSLY! I was able to accomplish this by using this $16 led taillight converter: amzn.to/2ZZjCcZ. This was not an easy task, so if you plan on trying this, make sure you have at least few hours to dedicate to it. I had a ton of help from Mike Behring from the CFMoto groups on FB, and if not for him, I am not sure I would have been able to complete this install. That being said...now that it is done and I know how to do it, it makes much more sense to me and I could probably do it again in considerably less time. I am absolutely thrilled with the result and how it turned out. It uses the bottom row of 6 leds as the turn signal, while the upper led "brow" stays illuminated for the tail lights. Brake lights work perfectly with and without signals engaged. I am SO glad this is finally done. I live on a busy road, but they are street legal here, so I do a lot of road cruising and it will now be MUCH safer for me riding on the roads.

Justin I really enjoy your videos, but this one really hit home for Jeremy and I. Watching you having so much fun and-- --and getting the results of self satisfaction. You should be so proud of your work. I also am reminded in your facial expression of the joy you got when the task was through. LOL I can relate!!! Congrats .....
Mike...I cannot thank you enough for putting up with my numerous messages and phone calls trying to get this right! Really appreciate you, brother! 🙌🏼
Thanks brother. I appreciate this. You handled this soup to nuts. Great job. I could not understand any of this then I came across this video.
💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Hey Justin, I did get my signals done on ‘23 Zforce 950 HO EX, but I ended up buying the OEM flasher and switch and it was just plug and play for the front and dash. For the rear I followed your directions with adapter and it works perfectly. Thanks, just a quick note I also added Hazards button and bought OEM horn kit and it all works as it should. All plug and play
I would like to say thanks for your video. I have done my Z force 950 2021 turn signal all the way around.
Glad you got it to work bro!
Me too! Gonna feel a lot safer on the road now!
Greetings from Wisconsin! OH MAN can I relate to the, "let's check the footage to see if it works". Bought an old 01 dodge dually 1 ton with nothing for lights working. Anyways, I'm slowly getting to the point of doing this for my '21 uforce. I can't believe their "kit" sells all new headlights and taillights for $1,400! I belive breaking into the "eyebrow" running light in front and trailer light plug in the rear should work. I can appreciate your whole day, confusing at times struggle, but man, when it works in the end! Great job, and thanks for sharing, and filming, and editing. Lol. Such work put in for others benefit. I'll try and do the same for my uforce 1000.
Wow...thank you so much for those awesome and kind words! I am so appreciative of people who recognize the work that goes into these videos sometimes. Lol. The uforce should honestly work just as you are describing doing them! Can’t wait to see them in action! Appreciate you watching and the words of encouragement 💪🏼🙏🏼🙌🏼
You are the man! 🤛🏼
Appreciate you! 🙌🏼💪🏼
Looks great
Thank you, brother! Appreciate you! 🙏🏼🙌🏼
You are the man!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
WOW! You really edit great and explain in common terms precisely! I just now subscribed because of your efforts! I will watch more of your videos today, lol. I know someone may have asked this a while back but what rocker brand switch are you using for directionals? Did you install hazards? I see once you installed the rear that your signals show on the display so if it is one rocker for front and back the signals will always show on display? So sorry if I missed someone ask, I just bought ones and you are the only one I have subscribed to. FANTASTIC TALENTS!!
Thank your for the information
No problem!!
Hey Justin thanks for another great informative vid! Check out some liquid electrical tape for those splices. Wil save you some headaches later down the road.
Will do, Ray! Thank you so much for watching. Appreciate you, brother!
🏆🏆🏆🏆🙏
Thank you for sharing
You got it, Dr Mark! Thank YOU for watching! 🙏🏼🙌🏼💪🏼
Great video Justin...a little confusing but Ill figure my way thru it with your video...just an FYI the rear trailer wiring harness and license light harness was back there too...They are capped off and are plug and play. I dont pull a trailer but I did use the license light plug and used a cfmoto license light for that...really easy when you have rear tray off but it can be done with it on but really tight...when i do this blinker job I will hook up trailer wiring just to have it there in case...
Definitely was confusing. Lol...I saw that plug and wondered if that’s what it was for. Now I know! Thank you, Steve! Appreciate you!
@@JustinTheCreator yes the little 2 wire one to the right side is the license one and the left side plug is the trailer harness plug...
im lost lol.......ok i got it thanks fella! had to watch like 9 times but i got it
Lol…glad you got it!
have you seen anything on a trailer light plug? i want to do some overlanding but will be on paved roads some to get to where i can start my trip
@@robertheuer7670 Main Street Cycle should have them!
so i didn't have the patience to take the back apart...still go it done worked first try...thanks for the video and thanks to the people that helpped you!
Nice
Thank you, Phil! Appreciate ya, brother!
Justin: “I’m no mechanic, this is my first time”
Me: “cool I’m no mechanic either”
Justin: proceeds to pull apart entire machine, pulls out wires and more wires.....
Me: I need to call a mechanic.....
🤣🤣🤣 this one was super confusing. Lol.
I’m having a lot of issues.. I ran everything stated in your video but I’m either having both blinkers turn on at the same time or when I swap wires around the blinkers work but then I loose brake lights. I do have a 2022 model so not sure if everything is the same. Please help!
Justin, do you have any pictures of the wiring on the taillight after splicing in the wires? I just want to make sure i do it right the first time
Let me check!
Justin, i pritty much followed all of your instrutions. But, i have a question. On the turn signal switch, there are 5 wires. I know what the orange, light blue and center wire are for. But, what are the other 2 wures for? Does the switch light up when you turn on the indicater?
I honestly have never tried them...my switch doesn’t light up, but I know they can. I may try that today and see what happens...
Comment for the algorithm!
Thank you, Ron! Appreciate you, brother! 🙏🏼🙌🏼
When using this mod how do you get the flashers to work? On a 2022 950 HO EX
I just finished up on my cforce 600 touring and it works!! Only thing i noticed is when i brake and put turn signal on, it flashes faster than with out braking any ideas? could it be the flasher that i got has a knob to adjust blinker speed?
Awesome! If you adjust that flasher know, they should slow down
Justin I watched the video you did on the rear factory turn signals on your zforce 950 sport are there any way you can tell me the color wires you spliced into on the rear I got the stuff you said to do it with man I need help bad thanks
Green/Yellow wire on both rears
Justin do you have a video for hooking up the flashers on a 22 Z FORCE 950 HO EX? Thank you
I will have to check to see if it’s the same harness…I’m not sure on the HO EX
Justin correct me if im wrong….did you have to take it all apart? If you look on the right side near the rear shock you will see a harness that has all the wires there. If you tap in on the tail light side you dont need to pull it apart right?
It can be done without taking it apart, but I don't have that much patience...lol. Much more of a struggle, at least on mine
Can you draw up a diagram of the colors plus the plugs ? So we know what side all that jazz ? Thanks for your vids I subscribed after I seen the storage box install
Thanks for the sub! Definitely appreciate that! I’ll get something drawn up :)
Yo J,what did you ground thos 2 white wires to on the 4 flat converter for back signal light
No. Just capped them off.
@@JustinTheCreator thanks
Hey, a little help please. The amazon link says not for use with LED. Should I use that one anyway? Thanks
They must have changed the product on that link. You will want an led flasher
@@JustinTheCreator sorry not the flasher. The Hopkins tail light converter?
Just installed mine and it works great, killer video by the way. One issue I'm having is now the brake fault indicator light is on and is now stuck in eco mode and wont switch to sport mode, which I'm assuming is like a limp mode due to a brake code. Any guesses? I'm used to rzrs new to the cfmoto lol
I have no heard of this happening…still have full brake light and tail light function?
@@JustinTheCreator yeah works like yours does in the video, I'll look around the dash see if anything came unplugged while I was in there
@@JustinTheCreator I didn't get the display connector plugged all the way back in. Thanks for the quick response and super good video by the way! Definitely would recommend your video to another 🤘
Justin, where did you purchase the turn switch?
Main Street cycle
I have the 2021 model Zsport 950 and mine has a daytime running lights relay from the factory that keeps the front eyebrow lights on all the time when the machine is running
My fronts do the same. You can utilize those for front turn signals. They are already wired. I have a video showing how to make those work, too :)
@@JustinTheCreator my daytime running lights use the blinker light and are on when the light switch is in the off position, when the switch is in the mid position the dimmer accent light comes on along with the tail light, I am thinking that the relay in the fuse box listed as "daytime running light relay" may have been a change in the 2021 model it doesn't even show up in the manual on page 159
@@mmeives yep! Mine are the same way. I love that they change to Amber when the switch is engaged.
Looks great! Was hoping for an easier install, however. I'm not sure I'm up for that much work....
It’s a lot, for sure...but the worst part is just getting it apart. Once it’s apart, running the wiring and hooking it all up is easy. Even reassembly is easy. Now that I’ve done it, I could probably do another one in an hour or so.
Thank you for watching :) Appreciate you!
@@JustinTheCreator thank you for all you do!! Hey, maybe I missed it, but what’s the converter brand? Part number?
@@marksmith8409 it is a Hopkins Towing Solutions led converter. I got it at my local AutoZone for like $16. Lol
@@marksmith8409 and you are very welcome! Thank YOU for watching and commenting 🙌🏼💪🏼🙏🏼
Where do both brown wires go? On both the 4 wire and 5 wire side?
They just get capped off. They don’t run to anything on the machine
Anybody know where the outside wires on the switch are wired into? I believe green and brown? Are they neutral and ground?
I think they might be for the actual switch to indicate and light up when engaged, but not 100% sure
I have anything wired exactly like you have it and when I push the brake the blinkers stop and have tail lights and I release the brake blinker starts working again
Sounds like the brake and blinker wires are switched. Check wires on drivers side again
I called cfmoto and they said that they make blinkers for other countries but can’t directly sell blinker kits to us in the USA due to embargo laws but that we can have a dealership order the blinker kit through them. We just can’t order directly as a consumer.
Not the kit, but all you need to order from them is the signal switch. You honestly don’t even need to do that. Lol
does a brake light wire get ran to both sides of the harnesses in the back?
No, just to drivers side, the wire that feeds into the harness
@@JustinTheCreator okay so for the passenger side i just run the right turn signal to the harness side?
Any chance this will work on the 2021 800 ex?
If it’s a 3 wire setup, it should work. Very similar to trailer wiring.
Hey Justin, have you ever done the reverse light?
I have not, but I did help a buddy do his and we used small light pods mounted on the roof
Where did you connected to? By the way I like you videos helps me out with me 950 HO.
I watched your video and followed your directions but my taillights do not work. How can I privately message or speak to you for help.
Send me a message on fb or find me in the MSC CFMoto group
Hi Justin your video is great but we are having trouble with the passenger side. We cut the green and yellow wire just like the driver side and connected the yellow wire but we are not getting a blinker signal, we know we have the signal up to that point what are we doing wrong or do you have any pictures or a diagram of what it should look like? Thanks for your help Becky
Did you hook it up to the side that feeds I to the tail light?
Yes we did and we did not get anything,
Hi, so we are not understanding where you stand art in the back for cutting the wires, do you cut them or b the side tat goes to the the light that has the three wires or are you cutting the wires that are in n the actual wire harness? Also where do you ground your wire to? Sorry for all the questions.
Where you start cutting sorry for the auto correct.
Is your front set up with the flasher the same or does this replace that also?
Still has the initial flasher setup for the front from my original video. All of that is still the same
@@JustinTheCreator so to work copy both videos? Want to order everything at one time. Free shipping on Amazon that way. I got plenty of wire and connector just need the main parts.
@@edclements5112 yes! Front flashers are super easy, just need an 3 prong led flasher relay and turn signal switch. Then you will use the converter to send the brake and turn signals to the taillights.
@@JustinTheCreator ordering now. Should make wife happy. Since watching your channel i have bought the clutch kit, rear storage box with fuel cans, 4 point seat harness, sliders, front bumper, the trailer tie down stuff, and now the stuff i need for this.
@@edclements5112 🙌🏼🤣🤣 I bet your wife is so happy I started I making videos 🤣🤣
Will this work on a 2022 Sport?
It should
Will this work on a 2022 Z Force HO EX? Thanks
I believe so, but will confirm!
@@JustinTheCreator thank you. Love your work!
FYI get rid of those taps ASAP. They will give major wiring problems down the road as moister starts to enter the wire and you get the green crap in the copper.
I plan on heat shrinking all of them. The only actual taps I have in are behind the dash. Everything else is done with heat shrunk butt connectors. 👍🏼
I wonder why they made the signals a factory standard in Canada but not US
that is the million dollar question...lol
Just did this and everything was working great till about 5 min into first ride now have p057129 code brake circuit not in sequence or something to that not sure what i need to do other then try to change out the wire adapter one more time
This is the very first time I have ever heard of this happening...how did you wire the converter?
@@JustinTheCreator brake light wire from rear to red wire on converter green and yellow on 5 wire end of converter to switch green and yellow wires on 4 wire end of converter to taillights also had to ground white wire on 5 wire end of converter to get lights to work
@@JustinTheCreator I’ve ordered some separate blinker’s to try and see if for some reason it is the converter causing it or if it just was a fluke the code says brake light circuit faulty out of step correlation
@@DaveK68 strange….it’s been so long since I’ve done it, I’m gonna have to go back and look, but I don’t think I grounded either side of the converter…but I’ll double check
@@JustinTheCreator just a quick update the blinker mod had nothing to do with code it was a faulty brake switch it was just bad timing that it threw code right after the blinker mod
Holy crap... Just buy a 950 in Canada and save all the headache :)
I kinda enjoy the headache and work, to be honest. Lol
The one selling in Mexico 🇲🇽 already have turn signals, horn, and some other cool stuff.. But it's about $15k and it's called a 1000 not 950
photos.app.goo.gl/kL9FfcQYADock2Xv5
Yeah, it’s different in the US for whatever reason...I’m sure it’s some kind of regulation thing here
Between your videos and the video by Ian Clark ua-cam.com/video/9YG5UWngYCs/v-deo.html you fellas made this a breeze. Overall it took me about 4 hours start to finish, but could have been done more quickly if I wasn't so anal about wiring. Thanks for posting.
I’m getting ready to do it, but have 3 questions I think you’ll know if you used Ian’s method. (Or Justin’s I guess)
When you cut the left and right g/y wires in the rear harness, did you do all your connections at that point. I.e. tie in the brake to one end of the cut wire and tie in the converter left and right outputs at that point rather than by the back wheel connector?
Did you tie the brake input to both the left and right cut wires or just the left as Justin mentioned?
What did you do to the unused 2 brown and one white wires on the converter?
It's been a bit since I did it, but I did do everything into the harness in the right rear fender well. I put a floor jack under the pumpkin for a little extra head clearance and I also did not remove the wheel. As for the unused wires, I capped them off with a heat shrink butt connector and wrapped them with electrical tape to keep them water tight and tucked everything I could back into the convoluted tubing. The wires I couldn't fit in the tubing I zip tied to non moving surfaces and out of the way of anything that did move.
Lastly, I did the wiring as Justin suggested only using the one brake wire and in some sort of magical way, it just all worked out.
Hope that helps out.
Thanks SO SO MUCH for the fast response!!!! Greatly appreciated!
To make sure I got it right on what you said I’ll restart it to you.
For the three extra converter wires (2brown & 1 white) you cut them back and just put a waterproof heat shrink on each one
For the three g/y wires in the rear wire harness you cut in half the RT (once you figured it out) wire and attached the end going to the wheel to the green from the up front converter output wire and tied the other side to the red brake input from up front. On the other g/y LT wire you cut it and attached the yellow from the up front converter to the side going toward the LT and the other side you just capped it.
Lastly you didn’t run any wires from the wire harness (you worked on) to rear turn signal connectors or even touch those connectors by the rear turn signals.
@@donaldbrown4168that all sounds correct. I drew out a diagram on a sheet of paper. Any way I can get it to you?
Hey can you check your instagram DM
