Good review of one of my favourite staple good value for money 12yr old whiskys. Yes, on the rocks or water does reduces its harshness and release its flavours and you won't do that on the 18yr old that should be enjoyed neat. But I love to do a 50-50 mix with Teacher's Highland Cream whisky to increase the intensity of the peat notes. I tried it with Grant but the intensity didn't work out so well.
I was thinking of getting the 18 yr next to try! Not a huge peaty whisky fan, but your suggestion sounds interesting. Opens up a whole new world of tasting!
This was exactly the same perceptionI had when I tasted the newly redesigned chivas 12. While the later one was nice to be sipped pure, this new one only goes well with ice. Thanks for the review!
Chivas 12 year old is an entry level Scotch whiskey that is better than Johnnie Walker Red but usually is not preferred over Johnnie Walker Black. If you want to drink a Chivas neat, the older varieties of the brand are smoother and have a more prominent taste. It's a good deal if you can get the bottle under 25 dollars, and even at the 30 dollar price point it is okay. Once your budget is at 30 dollars or higher, you have a larger selection of all variety of whiskeys and scotch that could be far better to the taste profile you prefer. What I am saying is that the bottle is too understated and it does not push in any direction in taste to be a threat to most competitors that lean for a fruity, peaty, or vanilla flavor.
This is on a personal (budget) opinion, but for smooth whisky I enjoy the Singleton Single Malt, and for peaty, i’ll have to go for the Laphroaig. But then again there are hundreds more that I haven’t tried!
Never tried this….always did see it at the stores…time to pick one up with a nice ice mould as well…..by the way, have a real hankering for some fine yet not very expensive sherry….so please help out a fellow here with a suggestion or two
I’m not too familiar about sherry, though i might have dated someone with that name a long time back… But for the drink, I recommend Oloroso Sherry, these tend to be deep brown and full bodied. Plus they can be kept longer after uncorking too
It’s high noon and my wife is drunk on Chivas Regal while I’m typing a college paper and watching UA-cam because she’s drinking this sh!t. I’ll probably drive to Primm Nv later.
Please don't spend money on Chivas regal just mix 10ml to 45ml of 100 pipers .. it is the worst taste frankly very cheap taste .. don't waste money .. go ahead with Ballantine s

I’m more used to drinking either neat or on the rocks. Making highballs and cocktails will cause me to take up more space in the kitchen!

Although I do like this Scotch whisky, I do find it a bit on the bland side.
It is a pretty light whisky, though most 12 years tend to have that trait
Plot twist: It was very cheap turn out the seller relieved after drinking the bottle and refilled it 😁😁😁 sorta filtered!

you got no class ballantine is crap go with glenfiddich, lagavulin, balvenie, or laphroig
