The trend of Millenials discovering Japanese pop from the 80s in the late 2010s, _City Pop,_ is perhaps one of the few reasons of why I'm happy to be a part of this generation. I'm thankful for UA-cam.

In an NHK interview late last month Mariya talked about this song. This is my translation (I've been studying Japanese for 3 years so I'm not fluent yet, but I can translate somewhat)
"For some reason around two years ago a mysterious phenomenon began happening where my work from 36 years ago (Plastic Love) began becoming popular among overseas youth. To be honest I think I'm probably the one that's the most surprised with the number of views. I made the song when I was in my twenties and I was going for a western taste with my music then. The fact that in the exact home of western music the youth of today are listening to my music makes me truly happy, And personally I think it was because it was made while I was overseas and I thought it one of my favorite songs to have arranged and played off that album. I feel that introducing the world and this era to this music (Citypop) is very very big achievement. I am sincerely thankful to Night tempo for this."
Edit: I just realized when she said Era she was referring to the Japanese eras. Plastic love was released right before the Heisei era (1989-2019)

Listening to this as a grind through my last hours of working from home. Nothing beats these sounds. I'm a kid from the 80s so I appreciate these kinds of tracks. Just the best way to end the day to wash away all the stress.

Honestly, how this video hasn't had 1M views yet is beyond me. Every track is a banger and helped me get through a very rough time, more specifically a tornado destroying my home but my sister and my 2 nieces and I survived. I would play this at times to calm my PTSD the few months after. Thank you so much for this compilation. It is truly one of my favorite things to revist here on UA-cam. Blessing and riches 🙏
