Mike, I just wanted to say thank you for faithfully seeking, teaching, and posting truth. Your faithfulness in these matters reach far beyond what you know. As a former pastor (don't worry, God has just placed me on a kind of mission right now, I haven't left the faith or anything, far from it), I can say that my whole family enjoys and benefits from your teachings. You have proven to be a valuable resource to us, a solid rock, a brother among the faithful men of old. Be encouraged, my friend, and thanks again.
To be more technical, since He in some ways exists in the past, present, and future of our universe, in addition to existing sans universe in an eternal transcendent sense, and considering He is spaceless and timeless, and non-material, I Am is an inclusive of just how incomprehensible He is. He just is what He is and we will never be able to fully comprehend what that means in this current existence and possibly not even in the next. But essentially you are correct, and I don't know why Christians don't point that out in debates, that the Jews had such a complex philosophical understanding of God.

The other day I was passing by a snowman and became amazed at how all those frozen crystals of water just happened to fall into place and form these big balls; then the big balls just happened to get on top of each other in order, from large up to small; then how two sticks just happened to fall off a tree or bush onto it in just the right position to resemble arms; then a carrot (with its top trimmed off nonetheless) just happened pop into the center of the top ball to resemble a nose; and then several high carbon/hydrocarbon combustible rocks just happened to jump out of the ground and land onto the balls in such an order as to resemble buttons, eyes and a smile? NOT! If anyone would claim that they would certainly be laughed at, ridiculed and even possibly locked up as a looney! A snowman is ALWAYS known to be the product of intelligent design. That has never been contested... outside the realm of pure fantasy. How much more infinitely complex is the human body that is claimed to have occurred completely by chance?
Anyone who can look at the amazingly huge (and extremely chaotic) universe we are in should be able to discern that this tiny speck of (relative) order where we live COULD NOT have JUST HAPPENED by random chance. I reached a point where I believed in a God but I needed evidence or reasons to believe Jesus actually lived or that the Bible wasn't manipulated in the 4th Century like I had heard on the History Channel. I also needed to know if Christianity was copied from older pagan religions. Again, more "facts" I'd heard over the years without researching or investigating it myself. Apologists set out to answer and prove those types of questions and more with historical evidence, reasoning, and debate. They also debunk bad theology too, like cults and false christs. Cross Examined is another good apologetics channel.

@@caroleimani9754 Not sure how that's related to my comment, but I will reply thus: (1) Solomon was given wisdom by God, not "smarts" like we tend to use the term. I've known many "smart" people who think too much of their own intellect to recognize when they are being close-minded or outright irrational. (2) For all his wisdom, Solomon still fell into serious apostasy later in life, so being "smart" has very little to do with being spiritually stupid. (3) If God "gives you over" to your own desires or hardens your heart or blinds you to truth because you have resisted it for too long... it doesn't matter how smart you are - you are going to be the fool.
Mike, what are your best recommendations for books on this topic? My kids went to college and have since determined that Christianity is a fable. I would like to study this topic more so that I can be more prepared to respond to them. Thanks for this teaching - it is very helpful!
I really like josh McDowell books. He was an atheist and sought to disprove Christianity and became a believer. His son, Sean, also does apologetics. Evidence That Demands A Verdict was written by Josh and contains what he stifled and how he came to his conclusions.
How is it that in the middle of your explanation of infinity -- only after a hint of grasping the concept of infinity -- a bit of God's glory is revealed to me through it and I begin to praise our holy God? ROFL. Amazing. Hallelujah.
I am truly being blessed by this teaching, thank you Mike! I will say this though, as far as the anger towards God, some struggle with a 'justifiable' anger towards God that has to be worked through WITH God alone. Maybe anger isn't the right word for the emotion, not always.. We lost our daughter who needed a second transplant in 2015. While we know that God's hand had been on her miraculously during her whole life, He later graciously prepared us for the eventuality of her passing, comforted us supernaturally beyond measure in our grief. It still didn't mean that we didn't wrestle with God in His sovereignty to bring her back to Him. The Holy Spirit continually prepared us by impressing on my wife that her first born child 'was His before she was yours', and she knew the Spirit's witness was right, so how could she argue? I tried to 'faith' through it with what turned out to be an completely immature understanding of God, treating Him more like a genie for granting my wishes than the Ancient of Days. We were graciously led and ultimately brought to a place where we had to learn a hard lesson about His sovereignty. Medical science had no more to offer and God said 'she's had enough' while we would've continued to say "do whatever it takes." Even though we know deeply that God was right and was so gracious to show us how and why, it didn't make it easy then, nor did it just yesterday, as we watched the 6th memorial birthday lantern rise into the night sky. We know she is with Jesus, we know she has no more hurt, we know she just made it there before us. Still hurts like a son of a.. You are a great pastor and you are the best I've seen at empathizing with other people's misguided understanding of theology. We are all there in some sense, who can know the mind of God. Let's not forget that people have real deep pain and we have to be able to meet them where they are in their pain and sin to give them a hand to lift them up. Jesus Christ is the Lord of all and worthy of all glory and honor, but sometimes we just miss our little girl and want to ask the One who spoke the fabric of being into existence 'why couldn't you just..?' And we know.. what about those who don't? Not trying to speak for all of humanity here, but maybe the anger with God is just because we are human and pain hurts. "I know you can just... but you didn't"... that's a hard pill to swallow.

My man thinkin like a mathematician! Enjoyed the discussion on infinity. I will say though, infinity extending into the past doesn't really pose a problem, at least from a logical standpoint. The number line extends both in the positive and negative direction infinitely, but I can still locate the numbers 1, 2, -10, pi, etc. in that space (that is, the space of real numbers).
Exactly what I was thinking. Though there could be another argument imo that an inifite past doesn't make sense which is that after an infinite time, every state of being must become static. Maybe with the exception of oscillation which would mean that everything would repeat the same way over and over.
The problem is that when you start from negative infinity, and not from zero, there is no quantity you can add to your starting point to get to zero (which can represent the present). It may also be worthwhile to note that numbers on a number line are purely conceptual and represent no tangible reality (such as the passage of time). When there is no quantity of time that can pass that will ever get you to the present, you don’t get to the present.
Another interesting thing on how to win the Chicken question is the fact that an egg requires for it to be in incubation to hatch, which requires warmth, which in turn requires a chicken, or any other bird that can go about and not damage the egg, or invalidate it, and have it hatch successfully. Also a note, the egg needs to be constantly in certain range of temperature.
When you remove all the odd numbers from an infinite set of numbers, you get infinity but with different attributes. Amount has been substituted for variance. If we define differences as number attributes, we get a new number and it makes sense. Edit Also, numbers don't directly relate to how large something is.

I took an 80 hour lecture from Dr Fruchtenbaum on a study of the book of Genesis. During that in depth study not once did the word “evolution” appear. That’s significant because prior to the 18t century evolutionary theory did not exist. Therefore a weakness is shown in the majority of Christians when the pivotal book is being taught. I appreciate the teaching ministry but it is not without weak points. Blessings

Your comment about clean clothes appearing in drawers reminds me of a policy I instituted in my family when our kids were at home.i even dit to my hubby. Lol. Once they were old enough to do it, maybe 4 or 5, I would put my kids’s clean folded laundry and clothes that needed to be hung already on hanger, sitting on beds. Mike! Don't know if you still read comments on such old videos, but I have an important question I'd love for you to address. Your reasoning that the universe can't be infinite because there can't be an infinite number of moments before this moment is very compelling. However, if God is outside of time and brought time into existence, doesn't that mean there was a "time" when time didn't exist? There must have been a "moment" in eternity when time was brought into existence from non-existence. I hope I explained this effectively; it's a deep and complex subject for sure. How would you respond to this objection?
In order for something to be true, there must be incontrovertible evidence that proves it is true. What incontrovertible evidence is there that a god exists in order to make anything happen? What incontrovertible evidence is there that "God spoke and it happened?" What happened?
@@Aurealeus So evidence for God is what you need but because God is who he is and has always been there from the beginning no one should wave a magic wand and just expect to have evidence that says there is or isn't a god anyway. The bible says god is a spirit. God is invisible. God is light and no man or woman can approach him. When God spoke and it happened it is recorded in the bible. God spoke through prophets in the old testament. Jesus Christ who is the son of the living God and the servants of Jesus Christ in the new testament were telling other's about God and his kingdom.
You've just assumed that atheists will say humans are naturally hardwired to believe in god. That's bollocks. The opposite is the case that we're all born atheists and have to learn about religion.
An interesting aspect regarding computers and intelligence. The processor of computers works based on logic gates. So, you have a 0 and a 0 go through the gate together and it outputs either a 0 or a 1, depending on how the gate compares the two numbers. It could be that as long as the numbers are the same it outputs a 1, so not only would 0 and 0 give you 1, but 1 and 1 give you 1. Now, create a long string of 0's and 1's that is 64 characters long (This is what is meant by 64 bit computing). If you organize them into pairs and run them through various logic gates, each pair will get compared based on the gate they go through, and you will get a specific result from that. No matter how many times you do this, you will always get the same output. The way to get varying outputs is to require additional information add some stage. So, you put in your initial sequence of 0's and 1's, and then the outdoor of that tells it to add a string from some storage area to the end. As it happens, that sequence of 1's and 0's that gets added is dependant on something you typed. Basically, you typed something, and it was put in the storage that it gets the new informal from. Or, maybe there's a device keeping track of time that puts information in the form of 1's and 0's into that storage, and it updates that information as the time changes. Or, there could be some other external source that creates the new information. Regardless, the fact is, the computer doesn't create the new information, it doesn't make decisions, the decisions are entirely determined by the input. That input can be very complex, but complexity here doesn't make it non-determined. Computer programs, no matter how complex, are converted into sequences of 1's and 0's that are run through logic gates, so no matter how complex a computer program is, the computer will never be more than a deterministic system dependant on external sources for new information, forever lacking any real ability to make decisions. This must always be the case so long as processing is done via logic gates. This means there will never be any true AI emerge or be created on systems using the processors we currently use. Quantum computing, which may be able to take advantage of indeterminate states might not follow those rules, so that is a different matter. Regardless, the point is AI isn't possible for logic gate based processing of binary code no matter how complex the code is. This is the difference between people and computers. A logic gate that checks for two of the same numbers will always give you a 1 when you input 1 and 1, or 0 and 0. A person is capable of deciding to incorrectly give you a 0.
Honestly I love these types of arguments from creation and morals. To me God gave me the desire to do so. Hi Mike, thank you so much for your explanation here, and I can see this is mainly coming from CS Lewis' argument about this. Disclaimer: I am not a philosophically related major, and I can be describing things wrong for sure, but I just wanna express some common counter-argument I heard from my friends and relatives in China always saying. Because based on dialectical materialism idea, the objectively right or wrong is changed during the time and condition. The idea is arguing that all moral is built over time and changed by the productivity of human being. So, the argument of an objective moral is really hard for them to accept in those world view even from CS Lewis' Mere Christianity. And I really loved the idea about science that is showing a lot of Bible's foreshadowing of the universe. Those are really new for me. Overall, thank you for all verse by verse series, I always learned a lot and it strengthened my faith in God.

I think you may have confused objective morality with unchanging instructions. Objective morality just says that such and such an action in such and such a situation is actually morally good or bad. Unchanging instructions would be like saying that it’s always wrong to drive on the right side of the road no matter what country you’re in. That would be weird.

Obviously, you can see a second language always creates more barriers on those discussions especially going to these details.) The point (or most honestly saying the counter-argument from my friends and family) from their side is the following: -- they do not believe there is an absolute right/wrong. Instead, they only believed things that are conditionally right/wrong. So far, I still do not come up with a good and clear argument/example to show them that something is absolutely right/wrong no matter when/where/what time/location/condition. So, when I was preaching gospels, we ended up here: they respect my religion, but they don't believe in absolute right/wrong from God. Or maybe I am in the wrong direction which means the condition is necessary even in Christianity (killing the enemy for example). But where should I draw the line and how can we come up with a solution for those? Or is it a heart problem mostly? Your arguments about infinity... These are now an important major part of mathematics as developed by G. Cantor in the early 20th century. He claimed that he received the idea from God himself. Of course, he was really laughed at in his time. Also, your argument on the existence of God (St. Anselm's argument I think) is shown to be unacceptable by an English priest and philosopher Robert Okham. This was a major and very deep philosophical work dividing theology and science. We have some really hard logical issues with this proof. Okham argues that science and mathematics should not invade the sacred. This is what I understand of it. Of course I really respect your lectures, and these are really much needed fight against the hollowed out academia of our time. I hope you gain more power.
Science and mathematics reveal the sacred. Science and mathematics in revealing and discovering to often arrogantly seem to act as revealing or discovering is tantamount to creating. My God what we know is but the merest shadow of what we do not know and they would rather hypothesize the rest than give Glory to God.
I'm a farmer out plowing my field, how can I look at the world that I live in and come to the conclusion that what I see had a beginning? Why can't I not believe that what I see has always existed?
The universe is not eternal because of 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. The amount of usable energy is decreasing-causing an increase in disorder; in other words, the universe is winding down. If the universe were eternal, we wouldn't be here now, because it would have wound down long ago.
I would say because every living thing in that farmer's life had a beginning and the farmer knows will eventually die. He would see this trend throughout his life on a regular basis. Seeing this cycle, thinking about his own mortality... would naturally lead to questions that we all experience: - what is the purpose of life? - is there a creator? - what happens when we die? These types of questions arise for everyone. - Some people try to suppress these types of questions. - Some people try to look for answers that suit their own selfish desires; - Some simply go with what they were raised to believe without ever having the courage to examine their beliefs when obvious challenges threaten their worldview (They check their conscience at the door out of pressure to conform); - then their are Christians who seek truth because of their longing for God, and choosing to respond to the opportunity He gives us. God definitely reaches out to us at some point in our life. Maybe this is actually the very exact moment right now that God is calling out to you. I am definitely not God... but He definitely uses His followers to show His glory in one way or another. Maybe God can use me to show you resources that will lead you to Himself. So what is your choice? Are you really seeking truth? If I offered you ONE day's worth of resources to answer the question of God once and for all... would you actually have the courage and patience to spend an entire day going through what I sent you? Or are you too arrogant to even entertain the possibility that I might have anything meaningful to present you?

To argue about wether He was taken from the grave or rose from it, is an argument a skeptic can make. Because well if you disregard the eye witness testimony of the disciples and there willingness to die for Christ, and humans won’t die for something they know is a lie, when Peter is pinned upside down to that cross, he could have said that it was a fake, but He didn’t because it wasn’t, what care would he have about death in this world if he knew for a fact he had assurance of a life in another, Jesus Christ did rise from the tomb and is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Now the evidence for the Lord Jesus Christ’s existence really isn’t hard to find a multitude of non-Christian scholars and historians mention Him within 150 years after the time of His life. One such is Tacitus a Roman historian who reported on emperor nero’s decision to blame the Christians for the fire that had destroyed rome in 64 AD. Tacitus wrote: “Nero fastened the guilt ... on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of ... Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome…” In this Tacitus makes reference to not only Christians, but Christ calling Him Christus and confirming the Gospels going on to say that He suffered the extreme penalty (crucifixion) under the reign of Tiberius and by the sentence of Pontius Pilate, which like I said confirms the Gospels narrative. Another important source of evidence about Jesus and early Christianity can be found in the letters of Pliny the Younger to Emperor Trajan. Pliny was the Roman governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor. In one of his letters, dated around A.D. 112, he asks Trajan's advice about the appropriate way to conduct legal proceedings against those accused of being Christians. Pliny says that he needed to consult the emperor about this issue because a great multitude of every age, class, and sex stood accused of Christianity. At one point in his letter, Pliny relates some of the information he has learned about these Christians: “They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food - but food of an ordinary and innocent kind.” This passage provides a number of interesting insights into the beliefs and practices of early Christians. First, we see that Christians regularly met on a certain fixed day for worship. Second, their worship was directed to Christ, demonstrating that they firmly believed in His divinity. Furthermore, one scholar interprets Pliny's statement that hymns were sung to Christ, "as to a god", as a reference to the rather distinctive fact that, "unlike other gods who were worshipped, Christ was a person who had lived on earth." If this interpretation is correct, Pliny understood that Christians were worshipping an actual historical person as God! Of course, this agrees perfectly with the New Testament doctrine that Jesus was both God and man. You may have heard of the scholar Flavius Josephus who mentioned James as being the brother of the Lord Jesus Christ, which matches what Paul said calling James “The Lord’s brother” and there is another document that Josephus may have written which goes: “About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he ... wrought surprising feats.... He was the Christ. When Pilate ...condemned him to be crucified, those who had . . . come to love him did not give up their affection for him. On the third day he appeared ... restored to life.... And the tribe of Christians ... has ... not disappeared.” Now it’s up to debate wether this is the entirely original document of what Josephus wrote, or if a Christian had edited it. But regardless he wrote about the Lord Jesus Christ. Wether it was negative or positive like the possible document is. Anyways there are many other statements, documents, letters, and writings of all sorts from the ancient world talking about the Lord Jesus Christ and there is not one question if He was a real person or if He was crucified and went missing from the grave. That is clear as day, He is a real person, was crucified, and went missing from the grave. And He did rise from the grave. And for more evidence of the Lord Jesus Christ, there’s the Bible and you see there is no evidence the Bible is corrupted, a lie, created by the Roman government, folktale. It is the recount of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, now wether you want to believe it is up to you. And what profit was there in spreading Christianity, All the early Christian suffered persecution, beatings, and were killed. Another Scholar reported that James the Lord’s Brother was thrown off a building and then stoned to death for spreading the Gospel in Jerusalem. These people went to great lengths even giving their own lives for the Adon Jesus the Christ.
The only thing keeping me from watching your videos faster than i watched the first two seasons of Dexter (in roughly one sitting) is that im trying to lead a balanced life in accordance with Gods will, and thus i must also listen to mike in moderation. I try not to flatter, and i will also keep balance in this by also saying that I've noticed a few iffy statements you've made; nevertheless, we are imperfect, and still, not as many iffy statements as i recognize myself having said when i analyze my conversations after the fact. Mike, I have what is probably a stupid question. I've been following along in your Roman series at home, and have been enjoying it. So first, let me thank you for putting these on youtube! As for my question.. Paul here talks about, and you've expounded on, the evidence of God in creation. And how, even those without a Bible or someone to tell them about God, can know He exists. But will just the knowledge of God be enough? If they've never learned or heard of Jesus?
Well you start with proving there is a God then you move onto the biblical reliability, and then you move onto teaching jesus, and if they're still questioning you you can bring up the archaeological and historical evidence of Jesus
If someone has never heard of Jesus, God will accept someone who has ALWAYS and COMPLETELY lived up to the light he has received to prove the existence of God. The trouble is that no one can say that which is why we all need a saviour and why evangelism is so important. Only Jesus was perfect.
The fact that you’re talking to them means they have a chance to know Jesus - you tell them. How can they hear without a preacher? But I’ll dial it back to what you’re really getting at… If we believe God is all powerful, intelligent and above all righteous - then He knows exactly what those people know and He will make a righteous judgment on their eternity - this is why I believe babies who die or are aborted will be in Heaven. God is above all righteous in EVERYTHING He does. We don’t have to know all the answers to these questions to trust that our all powerful, intelligent, righteous God will make the right decisions for these people. I'm a devout christian that loves the Lord Jesus with all my heart. I am also a loyal subscriber of this channel and have learned much from pastor Mike. However, his proof/ explanation of the creation of the earth is the big bang theory. The theory that a super hot explosive event happened where a condensed to y amount of matter exploded and created the world we have today. I HAVE to be misunderstanding something mike said. Can somebody please clarify this for me? I believe God created everything. And if there was a big bang that's what happened when God spoke the our world into creation.
As a Christian mathematician, I would like to say you generally had some very awesome points, but as you noted: scientists will say you're wrong. And that's because you did make a few errors among your assertions and scientific statements. Your ponderings on infinity were actual not in line with the logic of maths (there is actually a division of maths that deals with the logic of infinities) and yes there can be infinite time, though it is difficult to conceive. Also, the argument of using an infinite being to solve for the fact that reality supposedly can't be infinite would logically imply that being is not real. Another nitpick is you noted red shift being proof of temperature, but red shift is actually just an indicator of movement and only shows movement away from us. You are actually referring to the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), which shows a baseline energy/matter density around the universe. The last nitpick is that the moral argument proves morality, but not necessarily objective morality (since morals have varied a lot across different cultures). Further to the moral argument, science actually can show morals. There are quite a few studies showing morality within the brain and mapping out brain patterns for moral vs amoral individuals (psychopaths in common terminology). And the last nitpick point about all of this is that your sermon indeed points to a monotheistic religion, and you note it fits Christianity, but it also fits Judaism, Islam, Sikhism and a dozen other monotheistic religions across history that don't share the same view of who God is. Once again, I am a Christian and agree that pointing to God's existence is very important and I love that you are preaching on this topic and generally using good arguments. I use some of the logical arguments you point out, though I typically focus my personal experience and the test laid out in the Bible: look at what trees bear good fruit. I just feel it's important to make sure to outline where your arguments go astray as well in case anyone wants to use them during conversations with atheists who are well versed in these topics.
Sure, and next time you actually READ Joshua 7:24, Jeremiah 2:30, 1 Samuel 15:3, Numbers 15:1, and Numbers 21, or Leviticus 25:46, at that, @Aaron Parry , I suggest you also tell us all of us JUST what morality you obtained from those verses, and how 'timeless' it was or not, too? And then whether some of it can be put into PRACTICE - or if it should be. I think a lot of us would have been happy, for one, if Leviticus 25:46 was rendered FULLY defunct, rather, by Jesus, once He had the direct chance to DO SO, too. Since it CLEARLY had no more value left to give, except to be weaponized, and err, misused (very easily, at that) later. I cannot say it bore much 'good fruit' after that - and to be frank, I often question if it ever did. Same with the messy legacy of Matthew 27:25, perhaps, and 1 Corinthians 10, as it later related to Jews, within Christendom too - perhaps?
@@chrissonofpear1384 you bring up a lot of the reasons I am not a literalist. I personally hold the view that everything within the Bible must be read as the writings of the people of that time and each within its literary context (culture, genre, etc.). Many of most horrifying stories in the Old Testament (e.g., Job, Numbers 21, Judges 13-16, etc.) Are either legendary literature or (commonly believed to be) written long after the events took place. The one that still sticks is leviticus 25:46 and other passages referring to slavery, which most people defend by saying "slaves were treated better back then." I don't like that cop out and honestly admit it's a product of the culture at the time, since leviticus was written down by the priests several generations after the law would have been handed down to Moses and Aaron. Essentially, the priests could easily have added in items that benefited them as the elite of society. Regarding Matthew, I agree it was some poor writing when interpreted by bigoted Christians, but in the context of a Jewish person writing to other Jewish people, it seems clear that Matthew is rebuking the willingness of the Jewish people execute a fellow Jew, not saying that Jewish people should be despised by Christians (who called themselves Jews too, at the time).

And if things WERE GOING to be interpreted by bigoted, but nevertheless, POWERFUL people - then just maybe they shouldn't have interpreted it... unsupervised? See also 1 Corinthians 10, and how Augustine interpreted the word 'typoi' as well, which only added to the problem. And that's quite apart from all the stuff said about gay people, or interpreted so, too (particularly with Matthew 5:18 waiting in the wings) So we must ask - does this God WANT those things to be added in, so easily? Does He mind if they are, too? As much as if one man broke Sabbath, to gather sticks, that is? Because we KNOW He cared enough over that, to be moved to action, to a degree... (Numbers 15:32)
@@chrissonofpear1384 I mean, once again, these things were all added in by humans. And boy do humans suck at perfection. Would better supervision or even a God written book have been better? Yeah, for sure. This is more as an argument against the infallible nature of God than against God itself, though. I would also argue that no matter the words, people would find ways to interpret it to their own ends and thus violent people would interpret it violently. It's like all the people that spout hate and bigotry at others and then claim they are doing so out of love because they are Christians. They manage to interpret love in a way that delivers pain and suffering. In the end, the only way to be sure the written word wasn't misinterpreted would be to write a book that changes its language and words based on who is reading it so that everyone will have the words needed to ensure they interpret it correctly. Speaking once again to my personal beliefs, I feel like this would remove both free will of belief (since God would truly be undeniable with such a permanent miracle) and a piece of motivation to try and know God personally (since his will would be laid out perfectly and would not require prayer or seeking him out to know him). I'm not really big on apologetics as you may have realized. Especially regarding the Bible itself. I view it as a flawed product of human minds trying to understand a much greater (yet still possibly flawed) God and that has led to a lot of issues, but we all can only do our best despite that.
@@aaronparry2636 What about it, though? He did not have to ALLOW all of those to interpret it, let alone to catastrophic results. And who needs more guidance or intervention? One small jury deciding the fate of one Sabbath breaker, in Numbers 15:32 - or a whole group of theologians, deciding if a break in denominations was to occur, or how 1 Corinthians 10 was to be applied to Jews (in the area of collective guilt) and if an Inquisition - often framed as done to SAVE souls, not torture them - was ever a valid response? And free will WAS REMOVED by the more powerful over the less powerful, including those who could hardly READ - many, many times in history, or for those sent into wars. Or gay people summarily put to death (likely) in the way many 'witches' often were, post Matthew 5:18. too. And do you think Lorna Byrne has a better understanding, now of this God, also? Or Neale donald Walsch, say, for another example? And time and again Christians say the Spirit is NEEDED just to even understand much of the bible at all. Given this is far from a transparent process, I think people have some right then, to ask why the results are so variable.

I was absolutely an atheist- I even got to a point I was confused how someone could be so foolish to believe there was a God. Thanks to guys like JP Moreland and Bill Craig- and Gods grace, I was able to escape my futile beliefs
@@eddyeldridge7427 long story- but started with watching a debate between Bill Craig and Christopher Hitchens. Had been an atheist for many years at that point. Heard things from Bill I had never heard before that challenged some of my beliefs. Started me down a path of really digging into this kind of stuff- reading books by JP Moreland and others (lots of good resources from Biola U), watching other debates, ect. Went from atheist to agnostic, then from agnostic to Christian. Took over a year before I finally gave my life to Christ. That was almost 10 years ago- transformed my life.
I really enjoy your approach, especially in debunking falsehoods. I like it when you do a point by point takedown. What I'd like you to tackle are whale evolution, homology, the fossil record, vestigal structures, genetical similarity and other supposed evidences for evolution. Are you interested?
God gave enough revelation of his existence to condemn but not enough to save. God promises more light if the naked native views created things, acknowledging a Creator, rejects idolatry. If he does this, God will lead someone to his hut presenting the gospel thereby saving him. Many perish unsaved.
To be fair, we don't know how God created the universe so to attribute a certain how to God could result us in closing our eyes and not furthering our understanding of creation. It's good to say that God created the universe but the second you start saying how God created you're stepping into the realm of science and need to start producing testable hypothesis. The bible could mean many things when it says "God created the heaven's and earth" and when it gets into the power of his speech. It's using very unsophisticated language. God has been attributed as the direct source of many things over the years (light from the Sun) for example however that has been shown to be false. God can be attributed to directly creating the rules by which light operates but God is not living in the star pumping out light (unless the creator God is the universe and then that's a different story).
This should be a simple argument. All we have to do is prove that Jesus existed and that he never lied. That's because Jesus himself vouched for the validity of the Old Testament. And the Old Testament proclaims the existence of God. Proving that Jesus exists is really easy. Proving that he never lied about anything is not so easy. So can anyone prove that Jesus was always honest? I would love to see a video on that topic.

According to Mike, the existence of God is obvious. Yet evangelization is needed, for people to realize the "obvious". And even then, it is no guarantee. In fact, only 31% of the people worldwide is able to recognize the "obvious". That is why we need apologists, because it is SO obvious. Wish I knew it was so obvious before clicking on this video, if I knew earlier, I wouldnt have had the need to see it.
You can't use what is "obvious" or common sense to determine what is true. People can get unexpected results. There has to be observation and data that's reproducible and repeatable and can be shown to other people. Without at least these things, one cannot prove that God created things in nature. No one has observed God, not yet. So, there is no proof that God exists.
You hinted at it, but symbiosis is a proof for God and against evolution. Everything is interdependent on something else. You can not slowly evolve when you need something outside yourself to exist that hasn’t evolved yet. Which is what Bebe showed in Darwin’s Black Box. Also on infinity, it can not exist within a finite time. If time exists then everything is finite. Which says there is a limited amount of time and not an infinite amount of time.
chris sonofpear1 nature reveals that there is a creator. By recognizing that it is created allows someone to know there is a Creator. By acknowledging that everything was created shows a recognition of the God of the Bible. None of the other gods were said to have created everything. The story of the Bible is written within the characters of the Chinese language. This shows us that God gave to each people group a revelation of Himself to carry with them wherever they settled. The Mayans sacrificed people because they believed the gods sacrificed themselves for the Mayans. Sacrifice was their way of honoring god, even though it was satan they worshipped. Where did they get the idea that some god or gods sacrificed His self or theirselves for them? There is so much more that can be said about this but I think that should give you some things to think on for awhile. As for James 3:15? That is about demonic wisdom. Maybe you were thinking of another passage?
Jann Macdougall he talked about irreducible complexity in his book. He showed how everything can only be reduced so far before it can no longer exist. How symbiosis fits is, take for example the termite. It can not digest the wood it eats. There is something inside it that breaks down the wood so the termite can digest it. How could the termite live until this other thing existed?
No. It reveals, arguably, one or MORE creators. And says NOTHING about whether God would SPLIT control of nature with another being. Whether Satan OR Eve. Or of Satan acting 'through' Eve.

He makes a fantastic point. For the complexity of the universe to be so perfectly balanced on accident, the universe would have to be infinite for the odds to match.
As the days go by, the evidence for fine tuning continues to increase and arguments for a universe without a beginning continue to shrink and fall short.
Romans 1:20 , which is also known as "general revelation" is not a valid approach to discover the truth of an assertion. You can't just look around in nature and assume that God created it. Common sense has been wrong, even by expert scientists. Einstein used his common sense and was wrong about the cosmological constant. If you followed common sense in relativity theory, you would say that light moves faster when travelling, but light speed stays the same. So, you can't use common sense to determine reality. You can't just look around at "things that are made" and assume that God created those things. We don't even know if those thing are made. Things can be already there and eternally existing. Or, they can be caused by something else than God. Logic can't prove the existence of God. Only data can. We don't have comparison data or observation data. We don't have observation of an agent (e.g. God). If God really wanted people to know of it's existence "without excuse" wouldn't God provide some evidence that is strong enough to pass the basic scientific tests to determine reality? Provide a cause and effect within nature. Provide proof that it had a cause, and a being was that cause, and God was that being. Someone has to observe these things, either with their eyes and ears or with instrumentation. And, it has to be reproducible, and publicly available. That's what is needed to know if God exists. That's how you know if anything exists.

To be more technical, since He in some ways exists in the past, present, and future of our universe, in addition to existing sans universe in an eternal transcendent sense, and considering He is spaceless and timeless, and non-material, I Am is an inclusive of just how incomprehensible He is. He just is what He is and we will never be able to fully comprehend what that means in this current existence and possibly not even in the next. But essentially you are correct, and I don't know why Christians don't point that out in debates, that the Jews had such a complex philosophical understanding of God.

The other day I was passing by a snowman and became amazed at how all those frozen crystals of water just happened to fall into place and form these big balls; then the big balls just happened to get on top of each other in order, from large up to small; then how two sticks just happened to fall off a tree or bush onto it in just the right position to resemble arms; then a carrot (with its top trimmed off nonetheless) just happened pop into the center of the top ball to resemble a nose; and then several high carbon/hydrocarbon combustible rocks just happened to jump out of the ground and land onto the balls in such an order as to resemble buttons, eyes and a smile? NOT! If anyone would claim that they would certainly be laughed at, ridiculed and even possibly locked up as a looney! A snowman is ALWAYS known to be the product of intelligent design. That has never been contested... outside the realm of pure fantasy. How much more infinitely complex is the human body that is claimed to have occurred completely by chance?

I struggled with unbelief. I reached a point where I believed in a God but I needed evidence or reasons to believe Jesus actually lived or that the Bible wasn't manipulated in the 4th Century like I had heard on the History Channel. I also needed to know if Christianity was copied from older pagan religions. Again, more "facts" I'd heard over the years without researching or investigating it myself.
Apologists set out to answer and prove those types of questions and more with historical evidence, reasoning, and debate. They also debunk bad theology too, like cults and false christs. Cross Examined is another good apologetics channel.

@@caroleimani9754 Not sure how that's related to my comment, but I will reply thus: (1) Solomon was given wisdom by God, not "smarts" like we tend to use the term. I've known many "smart" people who think too much of their own intellect to recognize when they are being close-minded or outright irrational. (2) For all his wisdom, Solomon still fell into serious apostasy later in life, so being "smart" has very little to do with being spiritually stupid. (3) If God "gives you over" to your own desires or hardens your heart or blinds you to truth because you have resisted it for too long... it doesn't matter how smart you are - you are going to be the fool.

How is it that in the middle of your explanation of infinity -- only after a hint of grasping the concept of infinity -- a bit of God's glory is revealed to me through it and I begin to praise our holy God? ROFL. Amazing. Hallelujah.
I am truly being blessed by this teaching, thank you Mike! I will say this though, as far as the anger towards God, some struggle with a 'justifiable' anger towards God that has to be worked through WITH God alone. Maybe anger isn't the right word for the emotion, not always.. We lost our daughter who needed a second transplant in 2015. While we know that God's hand had been on her miraculously during her whole life, He later graciously prepared us for the eventuality of her passing, comforted us supernaturally beyond measure in our grief. It still didn't mean that we didn't wrestle with God in His sovereignty to bring her back to Him. The Holy Spirit continually prepared us by impressing on my wife that her first born child 'was His before she was yours', and she knew the Spirit's witness was right, so how could she argue? I tried to 'faith' through it with what turned out to be an completely immature understanding of God, treating Him more like a genie for granting my wishes than the Ancient of Days. We were graciously led and ultimately brought to a place where we had to learn a hard lesson about His sovereignty. Medical science had no more to offer and God said 'she's had enough' while we would've continued to say "do whatever it takes." Even though we know deeply that God was right and was so gracious to show us how and why, it didn't make it easy then, nor did it just yesterday, as we watched the 6th memorial birthday lantern rise into the night sky. We know she is with Jesus, we know she has no more hurt, we know she just made it there before us. Still hurts like a son of a.. You are a great pastor and you are the best I've seen at empathizing with other people's misguided understanding of theology. We are all there in some sense, who can know the mind of God. Let's not forget that people have real deep pain and we have to be able to meet them where they are in their pain and sin to give them a hand to lift them up. Jesus Christ is the Lord of all and worthy of all glory and honor, but sometimes we just miss our little girl and want to ask the One who spoke the fabric of being into existence 'why couldn't you just..?' And we know.. what about those who don't? Not trying to speak for all of humanity here, but maybe the anger with God is just because we are human and pain hurts. "I know you can just... but you didn't"... that's a hard pill to swallow.

My man thinkin like a mathematician! Enjoyed the discussion on infinity. I will say though, infinity extending into the past doesn't really pose a problem, at least from a logical standpoint. The number line extends both in the positive and negative direction infinitely, but I can still locate the numbers 1, 2, -10, pi, etc. in that space (that is, the space of real numbers).
Exactly what I was thinking. Though there could be another argument imo that an inifite past doesn't make sense which is that after an infinite time, every state of being must become static. Maybe with the exception of oscillation which would mean that everything would repeat the same way over and over.
The problem is that when you start from negative infinity, and not from zero, there is no quantity you can add to your starting point to get to zero (which can represent the present). It may also be worthwhile to note that numbers on a number line are purely conceptual and represent no tangible reality (such as the passage of time). When there is no quantity of time that can pass that will ever get you to the present, you don’t get to the present.

Another interesting thing on how to win the Chicken question is the fact that an egg requires for it to be in incubation to hatch, which requires warmth, which in turn requires a chicken, or any other bird that can go about and not damage the egg, or invalidate it, and have it hatch successfully. Also a note, the egg needs to be constantly in certain range of temperature.
When you remove all the odd numbers from an infinite set of numbers, you get infinity but with different attributes. Amount has been substituted for variance. If we define differences as number attributes, we get a new number and it makes sense.

I took an 80 hour lecture from Dr Fruchtenbaum on a study of the book of Genesis. During that in depth study not once did the word “evolution” appear.
That’s significant because prior to the 18t century evolutionary theory did not exist. Therefore a weakness is shown in the majority of Christians when the pivotal book is being taught.
I appreciate the teaching ministry but it is not without weak points. Blessings

Your comment about clean clothes appearing in drawers reminds me of a policy I instituted in my family when our kids were at home.i even dit to my hubby. Lol. Once they were old enough to do it, maybe 4 or 5, I would put my kids’s clean folded laundry and clothes that needed to be hung already on hanger, sitting on beds. They were responsible for putting them away in the correct places. They got the idea that clean clothing wasn’t miraculous. Mom did lots of work for them. Hopefully a little more respect for me,

Mike! Don't know if you still read comments on such old videos, but I have an important question I'd love for you to address. Your reasoning that the universe can't be infinite because there can't be an infinite number of moments before this moment is very compelling. However, if God is outside of time and brought time into existence, doesn't that mean there was a "time" when time didn't exist? There must have been a "moment" in eternity when time was brought into existence from non-existence. I hope I explained this effectively; it's a deep and complex subject for sure. How would you respond to this objection?

I think it is amazing that when God spoke it happened. We need to always believe this because it is the truth.

The bible says god is a spirit. God is invisible. God is light and no man or woman can approach him. When God spoke and it happened it is recorded in the bible. God spoke through prophets in the old testament. Jesus Christ who is the son of the living God and the servants of Jesus Christ in the new testament were telling other's about God and his kingdom.
You've just assumed that atheists will say humans are naturally hardwired to believe in god. That's bollocks. The opposite is the case that we're all born atheists and have to learn about religion.

An interesting aspect regarding computers and intelligence. The processor of computers works based on logic gates. So, you have a 0 and a 0 go through the gate together and it outputs either a 0 or a 1, depending on how the gate compares the two numbers. It could be that as long as the numbers are the same it outputs a 1, so not only would 0 and 0 give you 1, but 1 and 1 give you 1. Now, create a long string of 0's and 1's that is 64 characters long (This is what is meant by 64 bit computing). If you organize them into pairs and run them through various logic gates, each pair will get compared based on the gate they go through, and you will get a specific result from that. No matter how many times you do this, you will always get the same output. The way to get varying outputs is to require additional information add some stage. So, you put in your initial sequence of 0's and 1's, and then the outdoor of that tells it to add a string from some storage area to the end. As it happens, that sequence of 1's and 0's that gets added is dependant on something you typed. Basically, you typed something, and it was put in the storage that it gets the new informal from. Or, maybe there's a device keeping track of time that puts information in the form of 1's and 0's into that storage, and it updates that information as the time changes. Or, there could be some other external source that creates the new information. Regardless, the fact is, the computer doesn't create the new information, it doesn't make decisions, the decisions are entirely determined by the input. That input can be very complex, but complexity here doesn't make it non-determined. Computer programs, no matter how complex, are converted into sequences of 1's and 0's that are run through logic gates, so no matter how complex a computer program is, the computer will never be more than a deterministic system dependant on external sources for new information, forever lacking any real ability to make decisions. This must always be the case so long as processing is done via logic gates. This means there will never be any true AI emerge or be created on systems using the processors we currently use. Quantum computing, which may be able to take advantage of indeterminate states might not follow those rules, so that is a different matter. Regardless, the point is AI isn't possible for logic gate based processing of binary code no matter how complex the code is. This is the difference between people and computers. A logic gate that checks for two of the same numbers will always give you a 1 when you input 1 and 1, or 0 and 0. A person is capable of deciding to incorrectly give you a 0.

Honestly I love these types of arguments from creation and morals. To me God gave me the desire to do so. Disclaimer: I am not a philosophically related major, and I can be describing things wrong for sure, but I just wanna express some common counter-argument I heard from my friends and relatives in China always saying.
Because based on dialectical materialism idea, the objectively right or wrong is changed during the time and condition. The idea is arguing that all moral is built over time and changed by the productivity of human being. So, the argument of an objective moral is really hard for them to accept in those world view even from CS Lewis' Mere Christianity.
And I really loved the idea about science that is showing a lot of Bible's foreshadowing of the universe. Those are really new for me. Overall, thank you for all verse by verse series, I always learned a lot and it strengthened my faith in God.

I think you may have confused objective morality with unchanging instructions. Objective morality just says that such and such an action in such and such a situation is actually morally good or bad. Unchanging instructions would be like saying that it’s always wrong to drive on the right side of the road no matter what country you’re in. That would be weird.

The point (or most honestly saying the counter-argument from my friends and family) from their side is the following:
-- they do not believe there is an absolute right/wrong. Instead, they only believed things that are conditionally right/wrong.
So far, I still do not come up with a good and clear argument/example to show them that something is absolutely right/wrong no matter when/where/what time/location/condition. So, when I was preaching gospels, we ended up here: they respect my religion, but they don't believe in absolute right/wrong from God.
Or maybe I am in the wrong direction which means the condition is necessary even in Christianity (killing the enemy for example). But where should I draw the line and how can we come up with a solution for those? Or is it a heart problem mostly?

Your arguments about infinity... These are now an important major part of mathematics as developed by G. Cantor in the early 20th century. He claimed that he received the idea from God himself. Of course, he was really laughed at in his time. Also, your argument on the existence of God (St. Anselm's argument I think) is shown to be unacceptable by an English priest and philosopher Robert Okham. This was a major and very deep philosophical work dividing theology and science. We have some really hard logical issues with this proof. Okham argues that science and mathematics should not invade the sacred. This is what I understand of it. Of course I really respect your lectures, and these are really much needed fight against the hollowed out academia of our time. I hope you gain more power.
Science and mathematics reveal the sacred. Science and mathematics in revealing and discovering to often arrogantly seem to act as revealing or discovering is tantamount to creating. My God what we know is but the merest shadow of what we do not know and they would rather hypothesize the rest than give Glory to God.
I'm a farmer out plowing my field, how can I look at the world that I live in and come to the conclusion that what I see had a beginning? Why can't I not believe that what I see has always existed?
The universe is not eternal because of 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. The amount of usable energy is decreasing-causing an increase in disorder; in other words, the universe is winding down. If the universe were eternal, we wouldn't be here now, because it would have wound down long ago.
I would say because every living thing in that farmer's life had a beginning and the farmer knows will eventually die. He would see this trend throughout his life on a regular basis. Seeing this cycle, thinking about his own mortality... would naturally lead to questions that we all experience:
- what is the purpose of life?
- is there a creator?
- what happens when we die?
These types of questions arise for everyone.
- Some people try to suppress these types of questions.
- Some people try to look for answers that suit their own selfish desires;
- Some simply go with what they were raised to believe without ever having the courage to examine their beliefs when obvious challenges threaten their worldview (They check their conscience at the door out of pressure to conform);
- then their are Christians who seek truth because of their longing for God, and choosing to respond to the opportunity He gives us. God definitely reaches out to us at some point in our life.
Maybe this is actually the very exact moment right now that God is calling out to you. I am definitely not God... but He definitely uses His followers to show His glory in one way or another. Maybe God can use me to show you resources that will lead you to Himself.
So what is your choice?
Are you really seeking truth?
If I offered you ONE day's worth of resources to answer the question of God once and for all... would you actually have the courage and patience to spend an entire day going through what I sent you?
Or are you too arrogant to even entertain the possibility that I might have anything meaningful to present you?
Mike explained why in the video and called it common sense, maybe I'm just dumb because it took me some time to understand the reasoning but surely someone who can raise animals and grow fields of crops for a living will be more intelligent than a guy who was raised with the luxury of technology, that I couldn't explain, to do things for me lol eternality and infinity doesn't make sense in our universe. Outside of space and time though, most definitely.

Evidence for Jesus Christ’s existence, crucifixion, and disappearance from the tomb (He rose from it):
The Lord Jesus Christ did exist, gathered disciples, and was crucified and went missing from the tomb. To argue about wether He was taken from the grave or rose from it, is an argument a skeptic can make. Because well if you disregard the eye witness testimony of the disciples and there willingness to die for Christ, and humans won’t die for something they know is a lie, when Peter is pinned upside down to that cross, he could have said that it was a fake, but He didn’t because it wasn’t, what care would he have about death in this world if he knew for a fact he had assurance of a life in another, Jesus Christ did rise from the tomb and is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Now the evidence for the Lord Jesus Christ’s existence really isn’t hard to find a multitude of non-Christian scholars and historians mention Him within 150 years after the time of His life. One such is Tacitus a Roman historian who reported on emperor nero’s decision to blame the Christians for the fire that had destroyed rome in 64 AD. Tacitus wrote:
“Nero fastened the guilt ... on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of ... Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome…”
In this Tacitus makes reference to not only Christians, but Christ calling Him Christus and confirming the Gospels going on to say that He suffered the extreme penalty (crucifixion) under the reign of Tiberius and by the sentence of Pontius Pilate, which like I said confirms the Gospels narrative.
Another important source of evidence about Jesus and early Christianity can be found in the letters of Pliny the Younger to Emperor Trajan. Pliny was the Roman governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor. In one of his letters, dated around A.D. 112, he asks Trajan's advice about the appropriate way to conduct legal proceedings against those accused of being Christians. Pliny says that he needed to consult the emperor about this issue because a great multitude of every age, class, and sex stood accused of Christianity. At one point in his letter, Pliny relates some of the information he has learned about these Christians:
“They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food - but food of an ordinary and innocent kind.”
This passage provides a number of interesting insights into the beliefs and practices of early Christians. First, we see that Christians regularly met on a certain fixed day for worship. Second, their worship was directed to Christ, demonstrating that they firmly believed in His divinity. Furthermore, one scholar interprets Pliny's statement that hymns were sung to Christ, "as to a god", as a reference to the rather distinctive fact that, "unlike other gods who were worshipped, Christ was a person who had lived on earth." If this interpretation is correct, Pliny understood that Christians were worshipping an actual historical person as God! Of course, this agrees perfectly with the New Testament doctrine that Jesus was both God and man.
You may have heard of the scholar Flavius Josephus who mentioned James as being the brother of the Lord Jesus Christ, which matches what Paul said calling James “The Lord’s brother” and there is another document that Josephus may have written which goes:
“About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he ... wrought surprising feats.... He was the Christ. When Pilate ...condemned him to be crucified, those who had . . . come to love him did not give up their affection for him. On the third day he appeared ... restored to life.... And the tribe of Christians ... has ... not disappeared.”
Now it’s up to debate wether this is the entirely original document of what Josephus wrote, or if a Christian had edited it. But regardless he wrote about the Lord Jesus Christ. Wether it was negative or positive like the possible document is. Anyways there are many other statements, documents, letters, and writings of all sorts from the ancient world talking about the Lord Jesus Christ and there is not one question if He was a real person or if He was crucified and went missing from the grave. That is clear as day, He is a real person, was crucified, and went missing from the grave. And He did rise from the grave. And for more evidence of the Lord Jesus Christ, there’s the Bible and you see there is no evidence the Bible is corrupted, a lie, created by the Roman government, folktale. It is the recount of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, now wether you want to believe it is up to you. And what profit was there in spreading Christianity, All the early Christian suffered persecution, beatings, and were killed. Another Scholar reported that James the Lord’s Brother was thrown off a building and then stoned to death for spreading the Gospel in Jerusalem. These people went to great lengths even giving their own lives for the Adon Jesus the Christ.
The only thing keeping me from watching your videos faster than i watched the first two seasons of Dexter (in roughly one sitting) is that im trying to lead a balanced life in accordance with Gods will, and thus i must also listen to mike in moderation.
I try not to flatter, and i will also keep balance in this by also saying that I've noticed a few iffy statements you've made; nevertheless, we are imperfect, and still, not as many iffy statements as i recognize myself having said when i analyze my conversations after the fact.

Mike, I have what is probably a stupid question. I've been following along in your Roman series at home, and have been enjoying it. So first, let me thank you for putting these on youtube! As for my question.. Paul here talks about, and you've expounded on, the evidence of God in creation. And how, even those without a Bible or someone to tell them about God, can know He exists. But will just the knowledge of God be enough? If they've never learned or heard of Jesus?
Well you start with proving there is a God then you move onto the biblical reliability, and then you move onto teaching jesus, and if they're still questioning you you can bring up the archaeological and historical evidence of Jesus
If someone has never heard of Jesus, God will accept someone who has ALWAYS and COMPLETELY lived up to the light he has received to prove the existence of God. The trouble is that no one can say that which is why we all need a saviour and why evangelism is so important. Only Jesus was perfect.
The fact that you’re talking to them means they have a chance to know Jesus - you tell them. How can they hear without a preacher?
But I’ll dial it back to what you’re really getting at…
If we believe God is all powerful, intelligent and above all righteous - then He knows exactly what those people know and He will make a righteous judgment on their eternity - this is why I believe babies who die or are aborted will be in Heaven. God is above all righteous in EVERYTHING He does. We don’t have to know all the answers to these questions to trust that our all powerful, intelligent, righteous God will make the right decisions for these people. This is why it’s SO important to share the gospel though!! (This is hypocritical for me to say because I have a hard time sharing - praying against that)

I'm a devout christian that loves the Lord Jesus with all my heart. I am also a loyal subscriber of this channel and have learned much from pastor Mike. However, his proof/ explanation of the creation of the earth is the big bang theory. The theory that a super hot explosive event happened where a condensed to y amount of matter exploded and created the world we have today. I HAVE to be misunderstanding something mike said. Can somebody please clarify this for me? I believe God created everything. And if there was a big bang that's what happened when God spoke the our world into creation.

As a Christian mathematician, I would like to say you generally had some very awesome points, but as you noted: scientists will say you're wrong. And that's because you did make a few errors among your assertions and scientific statements. Your ponderings on infinity were actual not in line with the logic of maths (there is actually a division of maths that deals with the logic of infinities) and yes there can be infinite time, though it is difficult to conceive. Also, the argument of using an infinite being to solve for the fact that reality supposedly can't be infinite would logically imply that being is not real. Another nitpick is you noted red shift being proof of temperature, but red shift is actually just an indicator of movement and only shows movement away from us. You are actually referring to the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), which shows a baseline energy/matter density around the universe. The last nitpick is that the moral argument proves morality, but not necessarily objective morality (since morals have varied a lot across different cultures). Further to the moral argument, science actually can show morals. There are quite a few studies showing morality within the brain and mapping out brain patterns for moral vs amoral individuals (psychopaths in common terminology). And the last nitpick point about all of this is that your sermon indeed points to a monotheistic religion, and you note it fits Christianity, but it also fits Judaism, Islam, Sikhism and a dozen other monotheistic religions across history that don't share the same view of who God is. Once again, I am a Christian and agree that pointing to God's existence is very important and I love that you are preaching on this topic and generally using good arguments. I use some of the logical arguments you point out, though I typically focus my personal experience and the test laid out in the Bible: look at what trees bear good fruit. I just feel it's important to make sure to outline where your arguments go astray as well in case anyone wants to use them during conversations with atheists who are well versed in these topics.
Sure, and next time you actually READ Joshua 7:24, Jeremiah 2:30, 1 Samuel 15:3, Numbers 15:1, and Numbers 21, or Leviticus 25:46, at that, @Aaron Parry , I suggest you also tell us all of us JUST what morality you obtained from those verses, and how 'timeless' it was or not, too? And then whether some of it can be put into PRACTICE - or if it should be.
I think a lot of us would have been happy, for one, if Leviticus 25:46 was rendered FULLY defunct, rather, by Jesus, once He had the direct chance to DO SO, too.
Since it CLEARLY had no more value left to give, except to be weaponized, and err, misused (very easily, at that) later. I cannot say it bore much 'good fruit' after that - and to be frank, I often question if it ever did.
Same with the messy legacy of Matthew 27:25, perhaps, and 1 Corinthians 10, as it later related to Jews, within Christendom too - perhaps?
@@chrissonofpear1384 you bring up a lot of the reasons I am not a literalist. I personally hold the view that everything within the Bible must be read as the writings of the people of that time and each within its literary context (culture, genre, etc.). Many of most horrifying stories in the Old Testament (e.g., Job, Numbers 21, Judges 13-16, etc.) Are either legendary literature or (commonly believed to be) written long after the events took place. The one that still sticks is leviticus 25:46 and other passages referring to slavery, which most people defend by saying "slaves were treated better back then." I don't like that cop out and honestly admit it's a product of the culture at the time, since leviticus was written down by the priests several generations after the law would have been handed down to Moses and Aaron. Essentially, the priests could easily have added in items that benefited them as the elite of society. Regarding Matthew, I agree it was some poor writing when interpreted by bigoted Christians, but in the context of a Jewish person writing to other Jewish people, it seems clear that Matthew is rebuking the willingness of the Jewish people execute a fellow Jew, not saying that Jewish people should be despised by Christians (who called themselves Jews too, at the time).

@@chrissonofpear1384 I mean, once again, these things were all added in by humans. And boy do humans suck at perfection. Would better supervision or even a God written book have been better? Yeah, for sure. This is more as an argument against the infallible nature of God than against God itself, though. I would also argue that no matter the words, people would find ways to interpret it to their own ends and thus violent people would interpret it violently. It's like all the people that spout hate and bigotry at others and then claim they are doing so out of love because they are Christians. They manage to interpret love in a way that delivers pain and suffering. In the end, the only way to be sure the written word wasn't misinterpreted would be to write a book that changes its language and words based on who is reading it so that everyone will have the words needed to ensure they interpret it correctly. Speaking once again to my personal beliefs, I feel like this would remove both free will of belief (since God would truly be undeniable with such a permanent miracle) and a piece of motivation to try and know God personally (since his will would be laid out perfectly and would not require prayer or seeking him out to know him). I'm not really big on apologetics as you may have realized. Especially regarding the Bible itself. I view it as a flawed product of human minds trying to understand a much greater (yet still possibly flawed) God and that has led to a lot of issues, but we all can only do our best despite that.

And who needs more guidance or intervention? One small jury deciding the fate of one Sabbath breaker, in Numbers 15:32 - or a whole group of theologians, deciding if a break in denominations was to occur, or how 1 Corinthians 10 was to be applied to Jews (in the area of collective guilt) and if an Inquisition - often framed as done to SAVE souls, not torture them - was ever a valid response?
And free will WAS REMOVED by the more powerful over the less powerful, including those who could hardly READ - many, many times in history, or for those sent into wars. Or gay people summarily put to death (likely) in the way many 'witches' often were, post Matthew 5:18. too.
And do you think Lorna Byrne has a better understanding, now of this God, also? Or Neale donald Walsch, say, for another example?
And time and again Christians say the Spirit is NEEDED just to even understand much of the bible at all. Given this is far from a transparent process, I think people have some right then, to ask why the results are so variable.

I was absolutely an atheist- I even got to a point I was confused how someone could be so foolish to believe there was a God. Thanks to guys like JP Moreland and Bill Craig- and Gods grace, I was able to escape my futile beliefs
What exactly convinced you a god was real?
@@eddyeldridge7427 long story- but started with watching a debate between Bill Craig and Christopher Hitchens. Had been an atheist for many years at that point. Heard things from Bill I had never heard before that challenged some of my beliefs. Started me down a path of really digging into this kind of stuff- reading books by JP Moreland and others (lots of good resources from Biola U), watching other debates, ect. Went from atheist to agnostic, then from agnostic to Christian. Took over a year before I finally gave my life to Christ. That was almost 10 years ago- transformed my life.

God promises more light if the naked native views created things, acknowledging a Creator, rejects idolatry. If he does this, God will lead someone to his hut presenting the gospel thereby saving him.

so what would it take for somone who does not have access to the bible to become saved?
To be fair, we don't know how God created the universe so to attribute a certain how to God could result us in closing our eyes and not furthering our understanding of creation. It's good to say that God created the universe but the second you start saying how God created you're stepping into the realm of science and need to start producing testable hypothesis. The bible could mean many things when it says "God created the heaven's and earth" and when it gets into the power of his speech. It's using very unsophisticated language. God has been attributed as the direct source of many things over the years (light from the Sun) for example however that has been shown to be false. God can be attributed to directly creating the rules by which light operates but God is not living in the star pumping out light (unless the creator God is the universe and then that's a different story).
This should be a simple argument. All we have to do is prove that Jesus existed and that he never lied. That's because Jesus himself vouched for the validity of the Old Testament. And the Old Testament proclaims the existence of God.
Proving that Jesus exists is really easy. Proving that he never lied about anything is not so easy. So can anyone prove that Jesus was always honest? I would love to see a video on that topic.
speedlearner why would it matter if he lied? There is evidence for his coming back to life? Because there is evidence, we know he is God so we should listen to what God says.

According to Mike, the existence of God is obvious. Yet evangelization is needed, for people to realize the "obvious". And even then, it is no guarantee. In fact, only 31% of the people worldwide is able to recognize the "obvious". That is why we need apologists, because it is SO obvious. Wish I knew it was so obvious before clicking on this video, if I knew earlier, I wouldnt have had the need to see it.
You can't use what is "obvious" or common sense to determine what is true. People can get unexpected results.
There has to be observation and data that's reproducible and repeatable and can be shown to other people. Without at least these things, one cannot prove that God created things in nature. No one has observed God, not yet. So, there is no proof that God exists.
You hinted at it, but symbiosis is a proof for God and against evolution. Everything is interdependent on something else. You can not slowly evolve when you need something outside yourself to exist that hasn’t evolved yet. Which is what Bebe showed in Darwin’s Black Box.
Also on infinity, it can not exist within a finite time. If time exists then everything is finite. Which says there is a limited amount of time and not an infinite amount of time.

By acknowledging that everything was created shows a recognition of the God of the Bible. None of the other gods were said to have created everything. The story of the Bible is written within the characters of the Chinese language. This shows us that God gave to each people group a revelation of Himself to carry with them wherever they settled. The Mayans sacrificed people because they believed the gods sacrificed themselves for the Mayans. Sacrifice was their way of honoring god, even though it was satan they worshipped. Where did they get the idea that some god or gods sacrificed His self or theirselves for them?
There is so much more that can be said about this but I think that should give you some things to think on for awhile.

Jann Macdougall he talked about irreducible complexity in his book. He showed how everything can only be reduced so far before it can no longer exist. How symbiosis fits is, take for example the termite. It can not digest the wood it eats. There is something inside it that breaks down the wood so the termite can digest it. How could the termite live until this other thing existed?

Romans 1:20 , which is also known as "general revelation" is not a valid approach to discover the truth of an assertion. You can't just look around in nature and assume that God created it.
Common sense has been wrong, even by expert scientists. Einstein used his common sense and was wrong about the cosmological constant. If you followed common sense in relativity theory, you would say that light moves faster when travelling, but light speed stays the same. So, you can't use common sense to determine reality.
You can't just look around at "things that are made" and assume that God created those things. We don't even know if those thing are made. Things can be already there and eternally existing. Or, they can be caused by something else than God. Logic can't prove the existence of God. Only data can. We don't have comparison data or observation data. We don't have observation of an agent (e.g. God).
If God really wanted people to know of it's existence "without excuse" wouldn't God provide some evidence that is strong enough to pass the basic scientific tests to determine reality?
Provide a cause and effect within nature. Provide proof that it had a cause, and a being was that cause, and God was that being. Someone has to observe these things, either with their eyes and ears or with instrumentation. And, it has to be reproducible, and publicly available. That's what is needed to know if God exists. That's how you know if anything exists.
