- Martin Luther King Jnr. - now more affectionately known as MLK - is globally recognised for his tireless pursuit of civil rights and racial equality - while his 'I have a dream' speech is one of the most quoted ever.

But, during his lifetime, the majority of Americans had an unfavourable view of Dr. King - and only 22% were in favour of the March on Washington, where he delivered that famous speech, before the protest took place.
So how is it, that half a century later, Dr King is not just universally loved but even has his own national holiday?
This is the story of how Dr. King's radical beliefs and lifetime goals have been distorted or forgotten in a favour of a more palatable, stripped-downm and politically acceptable history.

I lived through this time. The views expressed in this video are largely accurate. However, the term "democratic socialism" was not a term used back then, nor should it be used in reference to Dr. King because it didn't depict what he was trying to establish. Dr. King wasn't trying to establish the supremacy of one group over another, just to give black Americans, for example, a path toward equality with all Americans. We should guard against these attempts to pigeonhole past figures and philosophies into modern ideologies because the meanings are out of context.
Washington, Lincoln, John Q. Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Teddy Roosevelt, Ida B. Wells, Medgar Evers, Alexander Hamilton, Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglas, Dwight Eisenhower, U.S. Grant, Jimmy Carter, John Muir, should all be on that list.
That list sucks oprah is literally higher than FDR. Whatever oprah did doesn’t even come close to reach FDR’s foot. She can’t hold a candle to him.

Even though the 2nd Klan Era, (from 1915-1944) and the 3rd Klan Era, (from 1946-present) had, in both instances, beginnings in Atlanta, MLK never portrayed his hometown in a "Klan Cesspool" light that it was during the 20th century.

Martin Luther King Junior was a Christian pastor he believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ never said to trust in the government or to trust in Rome. Jesus Christ was not a socialist. Jesus Christ was the way the truth and the light. There is no way the Martin Luther King would reject Christianity to except a system that is trying to abolish faith in Christ.
MLK was a Liberal Christian, so he wasn’t a Biblical literalist (he didn’t believe in the virgin birth, for example). He wrote a paper in 1948 saying as much. Also, I forgot to mention that Martin Luther King Jr. was a democratic socialist, you can easily read about it if you search the web. And you actually can be a Christian socialist, because Jesus never denied any economic system. I find it really quite strange that most Christians are against communism and socialism, when the early Christians were proto-communist (they shared their wealth with each other) and Jesus, if he were alive, would’ve been very anti-capitalist (i.e, sell all your possessions, it is easier for a camel to enter through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter into heaven, etc.). Jesus definitely would’ve been a communist, anarcho-communist, or some other such thing (Marx actually wanted the government to eventually whither away, and anarchists don’t want any government).
