  • Today is the federal holiday that honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was born January 15, 1929. He was assassinated April 4, 1968, at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. He was just 39 years old. While Dr. King is primarily remembered as a civil rights leader, he also championed the cause of the poor and organized the Poor People’s Campaign to address issues of economic justice. Dr. King was also a fierce critic of U.S. foreign policy and the Vietnam War. We play his “Beyond Vietnam” speech, which he delivered at New York City’s Riverside Church on April 4, 1967, as well as his last speech, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop,” that he gave on April 3, 1968, the night before he was assassinated.

Dr King should be regarded as a anti-capitalist, peace and civil rights movement leader, not just "Civil Rights Leader" as our history books want to tell us.

The democrat establishment converted Washington, DC, into a fortress guarded by troops strewn about on cold marble floors because that looked more compelling than showing them in cots and sleeping bags on sleeping mats that every one of them was issued. This is supposed to send a message of strength and resolution in response to a small riot that would barely have made the papers last summer but is now three of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse because it happened at the elite's establishment’s house instead of at Sen. Josh Hawley’s house, or your house. When it was your business on fire, it was a mostly peaceful protest, and you needed to get over it. When it happened to the people who let last summer fester, well, then it was an insurrection/coup/sedition for totally real. Hence, they summoned more soldiers to Washington to make sure a ceremony that nobody but the elite cares about goes off A-OK. Just think of what those soldiers could do stopping the bloodshed in Chicago, where the average Friday night sees exponentially more carnage than what those goofs - who seem to include some democrat leftists committed on Capitol Hill.

The fact that you compare people who marched for justice and the simple freedom to live and not die by race soldiers posing as police to fools fighting for a corrupt man who cares nothing about them shows how racist you are. There is a complete difference in burning a target store than raiding the capitol of the US. Those "goofballs" as you called them brought guns, mace, tasers, molotov, noose, zip ties, and assaulted several and killed a man. Despite the questionable election process and slobbering media cheerleadin', they still barely managed to drag that tiresome zombie and the Presidentrix-To-Be over the finish line.
The best part of Dementiafest 2021 is that it will be a sullen, sad affair installing the manifestly senile old pervert at the head of the ricketiest administration in memory while surrounded by at least two divisions of soldiers lest a gigantic army of dudes in Viking drag decide to show up. The bored troopers of the various National Guards of blue states, whose governors are making a huge show of sending their warriors out for the photo op because of the perilous peril of Fake Insurrection II, will be practically the only audience. I can only imagine what will be going through their heads as they stand there, under orders to feign attention to the rambling windbag up on the dais who is going on and on about the need for unity and the perfidy of those knuckle-dragging, gun-loving Jesus people of racism who must be completely excluded and disenfranchised because their interests conflict with those of the ruling caste.
I’m sure the Fredocon contingent will politely applaud the peaceful stealing of power, gently slapping their soft, girlish hands together before returning to their offices, loosening their bow ties, and pouring themselves a nice cup of chamomile tea as they prepare to crank out another barely noticed blog post on why True Conservatism totally requires that we all support the leftists in silencing the speech of the competitors of Conservative, Inc.

  • @johnorosz7477

From the Ku Klux Klan’s campaign of terror against African Americans following the Civil War to the anti-government bombing in Oklahoma City, terrorism and political violence have been a part of American history for generations. Since 2001, America has focused intently on countering a different form of terrorism-specifically, a form of terrorism practiced most prominently by al-Qaida and later the Islamic State (IS) group. After the September 11 attacks, there was a consensus that this form of terrorism presented the clearest threat to the U.S. homeland-and the U.S. government was willing to take unprecedented measures to counter the threat. Some actions, such as the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL, were proportionate and successful; others deeply undermined U.S. values while increasing anti-American sentiment.1 The country continues to live with these shameful legacies such as the ongoing operation of the Guantanamo Bay prison. however, America faces a different threat environment. The increasingly polarized state of American politics, combined with the proliferation of social media networks, has allowed previously isolated hate groups to connect and coordinate. As a result, a new consensus is growing among counterterrorism watchers that the most significant terrorist threat to the United States is now the threat from violent white supremacists. Most recently, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) found that white supremacist violence is the most lethal overall threat facing the United States.2 Early this past summer, a report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) corroborated these findings:
… far-right terrorism has significantly outpaced terrorism from other types of perpetrators, including from far-left networks and individuals inspired by the Islamic State and al-Qaeda. Right-wing attacks and plots account for the majority of all terrorist incidents in the United States since 1994, and the total number of right-wing attacks and plots has grown significantly during the past six years. Right-wing extremists perpetrated two thirds of the attacks and plots in the United States in 2019 and over 90 percent between January 1 and May 8, 2020.3
This follows similar trends from the 2017 U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, “Countering Violent Extremism,” which revealed that 73 percent of lethal extremist attacks within the United States since 9/11 were perpetrated by far-right extremists.4 Organizations from the Brennan Center for Justice5 to the McCain Institute6 as well as state governments,7 FBI Director Christopher Wray,8 DHS,9 the National Counterterrorism Center,10 and multiple senior National Security Council officials across party lines11 have confirmed the increased threat of domestic terrorism, especially from violent white supremacists. Even the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, recently discussed white supremacist attacks as part of the global terrorism landscape.12 The shift in the primary terrorist threat to the homeland today is no longer a debate.
The good news is that Congress can take meaningful action against the threat-and it can act quickly. The 116th Congress has seen an increase in activity seeking to better understand and address violent white supremacy. Over the past two years, legislators introduced multiple bills to improve data collection and prevention of domestic terrorism. (see Table 1) Nine hearings on aspects of domestic terrorism, four on white supremacist extremism, and two on hate crimes helped bring to light disturbing evidence of the spread of white supremacist violence.13 Most recently, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved Rep. Tom Malinowski’s (D-NJ) resolution condemning the far-right conspiracy movement QAnon based on the group’s encouragement of political violence and domestic terrorism.14
Unfortunately, these efforts have not led to the necessary changes in federal policy. Only one bill-the Securing American Nonprofit Organizations Against Terrorism Act-made it through the congressional process to become law. (see Table 2) While the law provides necessary funding to nonprofit and religious organizations at risk of domestic terrorist attack, it fails to address the fundamental lack of data and resources dedicated to the threat at the federal level. The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 includes more robust provisions to improve data collection and analysis of domestic terrorism, but there is no evidence yet that the intelligence community has taken the required actions.15
Although the House has held more than 13 hearings to address domestic terrorism and white supremacist violence, the Senate has held only one hearing. (see Figure 1) This disparity reveals a partisan divide in Congress on a threat that experts across the political spectrum have defined as clear, present, and under-addressed. Some legislators have raised proposals to distract from the primary threat by targeting decentralized antifascist activists or establishing broad legal statutes that could be abused to harm the racial, ethnic, and religious communities that suffer most from violent white supremacy. (see Table 2) Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) introduced a resolution to condemn so-called antifa without mentioning the proportionally greater threat from white supremacist violence.16 Similarly, Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) proposed an amendment to include equal reference to left-wing extremists in the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2020, stating, “There is at least an equal level of hate, violence, and terror coming from the political left directed at conservatives.”17 Although political violence exists on both sides of America’s political divide, the fact remains that right-wing terrorists have perpetrated the majority of all domestic terrorist attacks and plots since 1994, whereas left-wing terrorists have perpetrated less than a quarter.18 The gap has widened in recent years, making it clear that the frequency and intensity of violent activity coming from the political left is not, as Rep. Buck claims, equal to the lethal violence coming from the extreme political right. This unwillingness to accept that violent white supremacy is the foremost terrorist threat to the United States has prevented Congress from enacting adequate measures to counter this clear and present danger.

I never heard this speech before and I'm just sobbing. God help us all.

What is good in the sight of God can never be killed. It might seem to be so temporally, but in the end, good will prevail. Jesus was rejected in favor of a thief/murderer, but he still prevailed. King was rejected, but his good has prevailed. Now he's more powerful in death than he was in life.

I love this man. This man can bring a country that Trump tore apart.

respectfully, trump is an (albeit dangerous) red herring. the left vs right false dichotomy is bogus, the true enemy is the mulitinational corporate oligarchy and the lobbyists that control the lawmakers.

Let’s see Amy! Did you fail to mention it was proven in court in 1999 MLK’s assassination was an act of the federal government? See what lengths the war machine will go? Still wonder why there’s systemic racism or why the DOJ don’t prosecute killer cops?

The NY Times also chastised MLK for this speech, saying he was basically out of his depth and couldn't understand the complexities of the war; and that he had injured the civil rights movement by speaking out. I'm not aware of their ever having apologized.

No because the Government/ State board of education all over America doesn't want Black History/ African American History taugh. We learn all about European History though and it's required. (If you don't take the class, you don't graduate.)

Realizing , only just now , what a great man Mr. King was . ONLY NOW ? His message was so well crushed and American people so well shepherded into the MIC coral.

What a great man, none of which we have today. Such a wise person. He spoke the truth. That’s when they decided he needed to be gone. We need a true revolution of our values today more than ever. He tried to help us to reorder our priorities. We lost him too soon.
