Based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and scripted by John Orloff, Masters of the Air follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group (the “Bloody Hundredth”) as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen, and sheer terror of combat conducted at 25,000 feet in the air. Portraying the psychological and emotional price paid by these young men as they helped destroy the horror of Hitler’s Third Reich, is at the heart of “Masters of the Air.” Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all.
The series features a stellar cast led by Academy Award nominee Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle and Nate Mann, who are joined by Raff Law, Academy Award nominee Barry Keoghan, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook and Ncuti Gatwa.
Hailing from Apple Studios, Masters of the Air is executive produced by Steven Spielberg through Amblin Television, and Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone. Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey co-executive produce alongside Playtone’s Steven Shareshian. In addition to writing, Orloff co-executive produces. Graham Yost also serves as co-executive producer. Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Dee Rees and Tim Van Patten serve as directors.

Mr. Butler, I thank you for helping to keep history alive and in front of a generation that truly needs to understand more than ever what sacrifice means. Especially what so many in that particular generation did for us because they simply felt it was a job they had to do. Again, I thank and salute you, good sir.

Austin, my dad was a B-17 co-pilot in the 8th Air Force in WWII. He flew 30 missions, and I am proud to be in possession of his Distinguished Flying Cross. You have brought to life what it was like for him up in the air. So young, so far away, so brave. You have answered many questions about what it was like to be in one of those planes. He never did talk much about it. I can’t say as I blame him. Thank you. Karen Kellerman Dunagan, Tennessee….

This was written by my Mother's first husband, Bob Moore. He did not make it home. He died just before the war in Europe ended. Naturally I never meet the man but he must have been a great guy otherwise my Mom wouldn't have married him.

I have thousands of letters from my Father, captain Martin W Mayer , written to my Mother. I’m just so so sad this wonderful acknowledgement was not completed while they were alive. I believe it would have given all of those B17 crews a huge heartfelt sense of gratitude. My Dad came home and in 2001 had a reunion with his top turret gunner, staff Sargent Fred Yaggi. A beautiful story and beautiful example of sacrifice…….

That was a Very Beautiful Love Letter , and U Austin gid a Wonderful Job reading it ! U don't no this but I was born on August /21/1950 , so it really brought tears to my eyes , my Grandparents lived in that time back when all the WWIi wad going on and my father was in the Military (Army) then as well as

Those days and years were very hard times for all of my family and I for one remember it well , Me and my sisters were outside one day and heard a very loud humming, we looked up to the sky and saw hundreds of planes flying in the sky , we yelled and waved at them , I no they probably didn't even hear us or see us even though they were not very high in the sky , we all also Salooted them till they were completely out of sight ! That for me was very scary, it shook the ground cause they were so very low ,U could see
the windows in front of each and every plane but could not see the Military men or Officers ! I was a Military ( Air Force) dependent raised my husband's and my children ,a boy and a girl after we were married ,back in February /28/1969 ) my husband died in ,January / 04/2015 of lung disease,And liver failure ! Really impactful hearing that letter. Thanks Austin Butler for introducing me to this part of history that I know find myself researching off to the side as I watch each new episode. I've researched the life of Buck Cleven. Fascinating.

R.I.P. Second Lieutenant Robert Edwin Moore. Grateful for the sacrifice of this young man who fought for the freedoms we now have in 2024. He wrote this letter at 24 years old, and he died on April 11, 1945, 3 months after this letter was written. Thankful for the men and women who, no matter what age, answered the call to service, put their lives on the line for people they didn't know, but a country they loved and were proud to defend. This man and so many others are the reason we stand for the flag and hold our hands over our hearts. We honor the memory of the deceased, and we honor the service of the veterans and active-duty soldiers, remembering this country is protected by such brave men and women and we should show respect to the flag and country these soldiers have fought and died for.

If someone writes me something like this... man. This is a beautiful thing with such a bad and cruel backround. Just hope this couple has been able to meet again after war, and if not hope they reunite again in heaven.
