Sherman Hemsley was a REALLY good actor, because his 'George Jefferson' character was sooooo convincing, that you forgot Sherman was acting. And then to know that he and Carroll O'Connor were very good friends w/ great on-set chemistry and the ability to make their characters soooo believable just was pure genius. IMO, Archie Bunker/George Jefferson were THE best dueling characters in the history of sitcoms. I wish George & Archie had many more on-screen moments together, but whenever the two of them go together, you knew it was guaranteed laughs :)
His character should been on Tv Guide's greatest tv characters list. He truly deserved it.

Watching The Jeffersons now. I really enjoyed his skills. He was hilarious and was such a genuine actor. He and "Weezy" both...RIP....
