Just had mine done a little over a week ago. It was a game changer. 3 days in the hospital. I am so happy I have no more leg pain, my 3 incisions and where my port was are a bit uncomfortable, but nothing like the pain I had before the surgery.
I had a plif done on 10/25 fusing 3 4 & 5. The surgery included a revision of 4 & 5 that failed to fuse from a 2019 surgery. I went with a neuro surgeon this time as opposed to just an orthopedic surgery and the surgery appears to be successful so far. I’m 1 wk post op and I’ve hardly taken any medication for pain. Best of luck to all in this thread on their recovery process
I'm getting this done in 2 weeks and I'm quite nervous. I donated my kidney to my mom 3 years ago, and I was FAR less nervous about that than I am about this one. Thank you for posting this because it really gives me some insight and a realistic idea of how things will go!
@@JohnJohnBush I won’t sugar coat it, it was rough the first couple of weeks. Mostly just the getting up from bed and going to the bathroom 😬 but walk walk walk!!! It really does help. But I’m almost completely pain free now and I’m 7months out. I still have arthritis pain but it’s bearable. I would suggest getting some handle bars to have in the bathroom (cheap on Amazon!) and a nice small pillow to sleep in between your knees. Makes things a lot easier
@Becca, so glad you doing better. I’m not looking forward to this surgery. Doing as much research as I can. Is there a way to private message so I can ask more questions? Thanks.
My wife, age 72, just had the surgery done. I find it amazing just how young most of the people posted on UA-cam are who have been undergoing this surgery! My wife's began as garden variety sciatica about 18 months ago, dramatically changed about 9 months ago, and the pain became intolerable about 4-5 months ago. Very rapid downhill course. I've had low back/disc/DJD problems since I was 17, but nothing like what these people are going through. Anyway, we were dealing with almost constant screaming pain only minutes prior to surgery. Post op, the only complaint was local discomfort from the surgical wounds. The back/leg/foot pain, gone, totally non existent. To those who insist chiropractic is the safe way to go, surgery today isn't what it was 20 or even 10 years ago. Speak to a neurosurgeon, you do not have to live like that! Dr H, M.D.
I am having surgery on the 24th of October 2023 so pray for us all who are having this surgery. I have been in since July but in these past years it has been a challenge off and on with this neck pain with back, arms , shoulder pain.
In my opinion chiropractic is not the way to go and most fusions are overdone and there is a 50% chance of continuing pain. If you are older the chances of ongoing pain are much higher because of older bones, fragile vertebrae, etc., The reason younger people are getting these things is because they don’t work like older people use to. They sit and sit in front of a phone or computer all day. As evidenced by this video documenting a life they are not present for.
I’m getting surgery soon and am young- it’s from heavy lifting in my case. If you’re against surgery and chiropractors- what do you suggest when someone needs L5-S1 fused?
Shame! No one, in the USA should ever have to stay in pain like that. There are some wonderful meds out there for severe pain, & no. Everyone does not turn into a feening drug addict!
I recently had L4-S1 fusion (ALIF/TLIF-they went through front and back). I am glad I did it. I'm just over 5 weeks out now and I feel pretty darn good! I still get some spasms or back pain at the end of the day when I've been up and around for a bit. But I've walked a LOT and I think that helped most.
@Cory It worked though. Because my L5 vertebrae was broken and out of alignment. It addressed the root issue. I still may have aches but it's nowhere near what it was before.
Hello. So glad it worked for you. Had my back surgery like yours. Went thur the front then back. Loss the use of my left leg. Pain is worse.. But I am Blessed. It could be worse. Take care. In my prayers. God bless.. Stitch
Just had an L3/S1 with spacers and Cage system 7!week’s ago. Same for front and rear incisions, 10 hours procedure. Glad yours went. Immediately remedy my Bladder issues went away after week 2. Starting to feel my feet also. Great results for this surgery. Relieved many impingements I had for 10 years or more.😊
Do your do dilligence ! I had the ALIF performed three weeks ago outpatient and I'm 57 years old... Its worth the risk, immediate relief of nerve pain, tingling and numbness, my 60 year old orthopedic referred me to the neurosurgeon in there practice that performed cervical spine surgery on him that was good enough for me. It's natural to be nervous about it. Its no joke, but the reward and return on your quality of life outweighs the risk. Life without constant pain is great. The neurosurgeon that performed the procedure on me only works with one vascular surgeon when performing this surgery so getting it scheduled took some time. Share all of your medical history regardless of its relevance. Good luck to everyone and thanks for the you tube post it was very informative.
Hi there I just had a fusion yesterday L5/S1 and after the operation it has been fantastic radiating pain and everything has gone really appreciate your videos well done they truly help me as I was completely frightened going into it. It’s only day two and I’m still in hospital but I can already feel the difference with my back. They said it would be really painful but compare to the actual back pain that I had before it’s nothing don’t even need much medication. Thanks again for your videos.
@@gorditahlove4470 i have had a very good experience with the whole back fusion Alif L5S1. I would recommend that you do a good amount of pre surgery physiotherapy as it made me a lot stronger coming out. I also had lost a lot of confidence to do much exercise so having a physiotherapist help me was vital. And I actually got a lot stronger. I am 53 so no spring chicken but we have been in Thailand with the family and i have been in Thai boxing classes. And have been able to do all the exercises without any fear of pain, also a really good yoga class and my back has been perfect. Im very impressed as there was no way i could have done thus before. I think the pain was going on for years and I didn’t even know how bad it was. Now i am so much more relaxed. It was a big head game for me but the best thing i have done. All my confidence is coming back. Just do you du diligence on the Surgon and Have some good support around when you need it for the first month. It’s amazing to be able to do things with no pain. Hearing of all these successes now I feel a bit better. I am ready to be done with these challenges for sure! Thank you for replying!
@@gorditahlove4470 woo 28 thats a bummer. I think my injury probably happened when I was about 30 and I just thought i was a complainer so lived with it till I could not walk on uneven ground a any time i was not concreting it would jarr bone on bone and drop me to my knees. They are all different and personal situations make for different out comes. Its a lot of trust to put into a doctor and his team. Small thing but The best feeling was when I woke up and could wiggle and feel my toes. Go for it but expect some set backs and pain afterwards as the body adjusts. I was lucky and had very little pain except for a couple of days about a week after I thought my left leg was going to kill me. It lasted 4days and came right. Thank god. Doctor said it was normal to have settling in time. Good luck
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos, you are an awesome inspiration. My doctor strongly suggested spinal fusion on disk L3-L4 from a work injury and workers compensation insurance is absolutely horrible for any wage or medical support and this scares me more than the actual surgery because there are some incredibly skilled surgeons where I live but you have given me a great deal of insight of what to expect if I decide on the procedure.
Do u have urs scheduled im scared to i was in a wreck pressing on nerves my surgeon said in bad shape tho if i have this could possibly have to have more because DDD will continue to get worse in other parts of back
I appreciate this video. I had a different surgery. It’s called OLLIF. It’s still spinal fusion. It’s just the modern version. I have one bit of probably useless information. Go to the store and buy a battery charger for your iPhone or iPad or whatever you have that’s at least 10 feet long. you’re going to be bored at the hospital. You’re not supposed to BLT. Which means, bend, lift, or twist in my charger, was on the nightstand and I couldn’t reach it. I know this sounds trivial, and I know these surgeries are very important. The pain for me was terrible but the bored was even worse because I couldn’t reach my iPad or the battery was dead. I’m telling you there’s nothing on their TVs at 2 o’clock in the morning when people are coming into your room to take blood. I couldn’t get out of bed because they set an alarm so if I got out of bed and alarm would go off. So I’m sitting in the room in the middle of the night and people keep coming in to give me vitals and my phone and iPad are completely dead of batteries. So I’m bored, watching commercials. My point is bring entertainment, and expect there isn’t going to be an outlet right next to your bed.
I recently am coming to the point to need the same fusion, not going to lie I have been very scared about the whole process and finding a doctor I trust to do this. But seeing your videos is comforting to know the just of how this whole process is going to be. Thank you so much for documenting all of this.
Whatever you do first ask for other options ,there are other options beside spinal fusion which will take away 20% of your mobility ,my spinal fusion was quite low in my spine and my sciatic nerve was damaged through a bone growth on one of my vertebrae, and this operation was done 7years ago ,and today I have bad backache which is because of the collapse of spinal vertebrae beneath the spinal fusion .
@@tokkieandrews9988 The ALIF avoids that. You don't have the vertebrae cut posteriorly. There's no muscle cut. We're able to pull the muscle aside. The ALIF is not as bad recovery-wise.
Thank you so much for taking your time and energy to create your videos. I have my surgery coming up on October 14th and your videos will help me to be more prepared and comfortable. ❤

Even the pain from the surgery is nothing compared to the pain that I had before in fact I’ve taken very few painkillers just some paracetamol.
I just had this surgery in August. It’s a rough surgery but it’s worth it. I’m 6 weeks post op and I start my physical therapy in November. Best of luck to you
Thank you for posting. I’m so scared for the surgery. Mainly the aftermath of it. My mother has done 2 knee surgeries & that was interesting in itself. Just turn 39 & picking up a freaking pen caused a bulged disc L5. Surgery has entered the conversation now & they will be making that decision in 3 days. I hope you are currently doing great.
I'm getting ready for this surgery in 2 days. I'm getting scared. I've been down with my back since August. Waiting to be approved to get this procedure. I'm very excited to get fixed but I'm getting very scared. Hives, anxiety. I'm scared. I don't do well being down. I'm SCARED! thank you for your videos. Help to have an idea of what's to come.
I just came home today from this surgery it’s my saving grace I am in no pain expect for the incesion. Also I cannot lay in a bed period. I have to lay in a recliner but I am comfortable & am wearing a back brace & able to eat whatever I want. Right after surgery I was able to walk immediately & sit up in a chair with no pain or discomfort also I am not taking any pain meds either.
I am going to have the same surgery done. Watching my mom going through this surgery I know what to expect before and after. I hope to get it done after my husband comes home, but if not family will let him know how I am doing. My husband is deployed right now. But I am strong.
Hope it worked out for you. I just got home from an Orthopedic surgeon appointment and he said I have basically two options. 1. Do nothing and deal with the pain until it gets too bad. or 2. Get the L5/S1 ALIF. I'm leaning toward the surgery figuring at least I have a chance of it working. As it is now, not all days are too bad but the bad days are REALLY bad. In my early 40's so think I'm better off doing it sooner rather than later. Even if I could deal with it another 20 years, I'd then be in my 60's hoping my body can still heal from a surgery.
@@hpurey Yes, if you are going to do it, do it now while you have the strength to recover. My surgery is very similar to what y’all are having. I had my disc removed from the front then they did a bone graph from my hip. (This is where most of my pain is. Surgery site hurts like hell too.) Then, my doctor did the fusion. So, I was cut in 3 different places. Coming out of surgery isn’t bad. You’re still high on anesthesia. It’s when the anesthesia begins to ware off is when the fun starts. Basically, if you have to have the surgery, don’t wait, especially if you’re young enough to recover. Building your strength back to normal is where you decide to push through or let the pain make you disabled.
@@mantyshub90 First off, thank you for asking. It went great! I’m 12 months out. However, 5 months after the big surgery, I had to have a laminectomy. That set me back. The only thing that still hurts is my leg foot, and big toe. Are you having this surgery?

ypur videos were so helpful i am about to have surgery and i am so nervous about it, mine will be below the bellybutton and the back as well, i am hoping i have a good recovery, thank you so much for the videos you have posted, really helped.
Thank you for your videos they have been really helpful. I'm about 4 weeks out from both ALIF and PLIF of L1-L5. Besides replacing all 5 disc they will also be putting in rods to straighten my spine from really bad scoliosis. At 69 I'm not looking forward to it but know it has to be done to have some quality of life again. Looking forward to being on the other end of it all and my neurosurgeon says I'll regain some of my height again! Blessing to all who are going through major back surgery.
I had a 360 back fusion in 2000. They replaced my 2 bottom disc with cadaver bone and a cage. After 20 years I’ve developed Scoliosis which is very painful! My quality of life has been really bad. I’ve had problems from day one. 8 hour surgery and 57 staples.
Can I ask, Did you look into any of the "minimally invasive" techniques for fusion before going the anterior route?(aka using a scope to place a cage or bag filled with medium instead of opening you up?) I am investigating options and as a younger guy would like to minimalize as much collateral damage with surgery as possible. I am interested in how you arrived at your choice. Thanks and continue to heal!
I had the supposed minimally invasive surgery. I have three 3 inch incisions and one small one below. I never actually had any pain at the incision areas. I have 2 rods, 6 screws and 2 cages. L4,L5, S1 fusion. I can't imagine going in from thr front as well.
Hello. I had a skiing accident and broke the T10. Had this brutal procedure instead of the minimally invasive one, because was covered by my insurance, otherwise I would pay for it. I heard that in Germany is way cheaper, few hundred euros, instead of thousand of dollars. If you can do a minimally incision, I'll recommend to go for it. Less pain and quickly recovery. Thank you all for sharing your experience. I wish you a quickly recovery.
Wow! Thank you so much for this video. I am done with this aggravated day after day of pain. Location is Lumber 4 and 5. It's been almost 9 months of this bad experience. I'll be going to at least one month of Physical Therapy. I'm hoping that after the experience of the Spinal injection, this therapy will help improve my lower back pain before I consider back surgery. Glad to know You recover from this delicate procedure.
Try asking about a non fusion procedure. I just had mine done. L4 moved right And L5 moved left the thecal sac between L4 and L5 ruptured and spinal fluid started leaking out down to my tail bone. Before this the chiropractor has kept my lumbar spine in check for 10 years. But I got refered to a neurosurgeon Michael Jones who said fusion was my only option. So I went for a second opinion and got the top 1% doctor in the country orthopaedic surgeon Michael nolte. He told me fusion is the nuclear option. He said he told me he would perform a partial discectomy of L5 and a discectomy and laminectomy of L4 and a L4-S1 decompression. A far less invasive surgery and I could go home the same day. He wasn't wrong the surgery was July 19th it went well I have more range of motion in my lumbar spine. Heal time is 6 to 8 weeks longest 9 to 12 weeks. I highly recommend this if chiropractic care fails and fusion should be the last resort
Very good video many thanks for sharing. I am not looking ward to having this L4/5 S1 fusion through front.I had one many years ago at 20 now 72 scared at my age
Good luck with your recovery, and thanks for sharing your experiences. I had the same fusion in 2015 and have never regretted it. I made a few UA-cam videos on my recovery, too, so maybe check them out for any tips that may help you? One of the main things I did was to not think it was over and to treat my spine the best I could.
I had this same surgery in 2014. I am now disabled. I was pain free for a few years but now have WORSE pain than before surgery. Hell, I am 63. Had to go on Fentanyl patches for 2.5 years. That drug ruined my mind. I have a good pain doctor. If you are a scar former you will have additional nerve issues. I also have to take a benzo for the anxiety. Once you have back surgery it is always something else..
I am really sorry to hear you are not better. We go into surgery with some level of hope… Would you mind sharing why you’re worse? Did something happen at surgical level? Unfortunately this will be my 2nd surgery for L5S1. Had microdisvectomy 11 years ago, that surgeon said very matter of fact “you’ll need a fusion in 10 years.” Well he was right & I had no choice but to do that 1st one-a very herniated sequestered disc.
@Kiwi & Friends That's not always a good statement. I worked in spine surgery for 16 years. You can let your spine go for too long. I have known patients to not follow post op instructions correctly. I had one that went home and took a bath! He developed a nice little infection! Some have weaker bones. Some won't do the therapy. Smokers don't heal as well. So before you throw out the crappy doctor, look at all the angles first!
I know how you feel ,I had my operation 8years ago and have constant pain ,everyday I was taking a anti-flametry tablet and landed in ICU with kidney failure.
How are you doing? I had my back done before my neck and I know it’s already over for you now but I’m telling you, day 3 after my neck surgery, there is NO way I could have undergone another operation. No way they could have gotten a breathing tube in I was so swollen. I was DYING on day 3. Back surgery was a breeze.
@@Tintin888bc amazing….first 4 days were hell but it’s now been about 12 days since the surgery and I feel great. 12 years I lived with horrible leg and back pain. I have basically zero pain now. I had a ring apothysis, spinal stenosis, herniated disk which resulted in decompression of my spine and a fusion in my T10, T11, T12, L1, L2. I’m 6 months post op. Rn I’m in the physical therapy stage of my stress fracture in my L5, and if it becomes more unstable then I’m due for a 2nd fusion. The hardest part is learning how to move carefully and to adjust. The pain will go away but the discomfort gets annoying. Keep your head up and motivated just as I, bcuz the resting in the beginning is easy but the strengthening up again is the pain.
I hap pain and numbness in low back and down both legs. More on the right than the left. Lots of thigh pain, sometimes pain radiating around my knee. Pain+Numbness into my foot and toes as well.
I will be having my lumbar fusion after couple of days and the most I worry is that am I going too early.. Canceled in 2021 because the pain got better. Have been using pain killers every day for the last two years because of the radiating pain to the legs. Clear advanced findings in MRI. But now, AFTER making the decision with an experienced surgeon, I have started to question if am I still too active and capable for a lumbar fusion.. I still can jog stairs up to fourth floor, but when I sit I start having leg pain.
I will be having an L4/5 L5/Sl fusion in three weeks . This will be my second surgery I had my first on 4 years ago that was just a herniated disk so I expect this one to be worse

I'm an older lady, & I've had fusions, discectomies, etc., etc. HOWEVER, for me, the very worst part of having 'spine' issues, is that most people, even those in my family, just believe, I'm 'lazy.' Yep. Lazy. Just because people cannot SEE something wrong, tends to make it worse. I really don't want to die, & STILL have people thinking, "Well, sad, BUT, she should've done more, worked out more, walked more, etc. So very sick of all the pain, & the fact I don't have any real life outside of my home. 🇺🇲
I just had a PLIF done 3 days ago and I’m not gonna lie….the pain sucks, the back brace sucks cause it digs into the 4” incision on the back and I’m bruised as hell. I went home same day and don’t have a PT appt for at least 2 weeks. Currently just taking Tylenol for the pain. Getting up out of bed and back in bed is extremely painful…feel like my spine is ripping apart. But I was up walking around with my back brace the day after the surgery. They say to keep walking…but with no walker or crutches….its really painful
Hi, I have been told i need either Disc Replacement or Spine Fusion for my L5 S1 disc reherniation. I had micro discectomy 3 years ago and unfortunately reherniated the same disc. Can you share if you have any complications or restrictions due to your fusion? I noticed you had uploaded this video 2 years ago so thought I follow up with you to see your progress and if you had any leg pain or sciatica after? Any feedback would be extremely helpful as i am not certain which route i should go whether get artificial disc replacement as they can pop out after sometime or spine fusion which limits your mobility and have higher chances or developing arthritis in the long term. Thanks
The only problem about a spinal fusion is you loose 20-30% of your mobility ,most probably with spinal fusion done on the lower part of your spine ,and having osteoarthritis, pain is your constant companion this after having the operation 8 years ago. But there are alternatives that is available that do work ,if I had that chance to choose I would've.
Hi Jennae, just wondering how you are feeling now? Did you lose any flexibility? I do yoga, cycle and golf a lot and now need a spinal fusion on L4-L5 and L5-S1. I am curious how long it takes to get back to feeling good, if the pain and numbness goes away fully and how flexibility is after the recovery.
There's a new procedure out now when you only need 2 areas fused. It looked like some kind of cushioning with springs instead rods. Wish I could remember where I saw it. I needed 3 areas so it wasn't an option for me. Good luck
May not be the same as i only had L5S1 Alif done but i would not notice if I didn’t know. In fact I can do so much more now that ive had it done. And no pain.
Not sure if you’ll see this but I’m having surgery soon- been really suffering in pain so scared of pain being any worse- can I ask what meds you were given that worked? And what didn’t help? Thank you very much! Your vid’s are informative and helpful!

I'm almost 5 weeks post op now but I still have low back pain within 1 minute of getting out of bed. It still radiates to my left button and thigh. I'm definitely discouraged. It's not like I sit around all day, I'm up and resuming regular daily activities. Shopping, meal prep, laundry and light housekeeping. I'm having a PT evaluation on Thursday. Time will tell I guess.
I am having this surgery in two weeks following a failed fusion from last December. Can you please message me on how your doing now. Was it a good decision? Do you feel better?
There’s not enough long-term data on outcomes in younger patients because disc replacement is still relatively new compared to fusion. I asked my surgeon about disc replacement several years ago before I had my fusion…he said they don’t know how long the disc prosthesis can last. Imagine being 25-30, having a disc replacement, then needing a new one in ten to twenty years during the prime of your life? Fusion is permanent.

@@beccapineda3765 what was ur age time of surgery
@@beccapineda3765which discs did u have operated on taken out and spinal fusion for? Open back? Do they really take bone from hip?
If you are older the chances of ongoing pain are much higher because of older bones, fragile
vertebrae, etc.,
The reason younger people are getting these things is because they don’t work like older people use to.

I recently had L4-S1 fusion (ALIF/TLIF-they went through front and back). I am glad I did it. I'm just over 5 weeks out now and I feel pretty darn good! I still get some spasms or back pain at the end of the day when I've been up and around for a bit. But I've walked a LOT and I think that helped most.
Same here 3 weeks out
@Cory It worked though. Because my L5 vertebrae was broken and out of alignment. It addressed the root issue. I still may have aches but it's nowhere near what it was before.

I am having an OLIF in 30 days

I had l4 l5 done April 6 2022 it is a long recovery they give you lots of morphine via mouth remember not all fusions are successful
I have had cervical spine fusion done and it wasn't too bad but the pain was the worst

I was wondering how it went. It sounds exactly like the surgery I'm having in 6 weeks. I'm also close to your age.
Thanks so much for sharing! You've help me more than you know.
You move pretty good before surgery. Why didn’t you try to do more to avoid it?
This lady is moving a great deal for needing a fusion, when I had mine I could hardly move before it.
Hi, how are you feeling now? Are you pain free?
After this last surgery I am great, some spasms but all in all, I am happy with surgery. Thank you for asking
Right. I couldn't put weight on leg. Couldn't bend, if I would have got down to mess with bag I wouldn't have been able to get back uo
Thanks and continue to heal!
any progress concerning that topic? :)

You get the surgery yet? My injections went away in less than 1 month.Pains came back and was absolutely unbearable.

But there are alternatives that is available that do work ,if I had that chance to choose I would've.
it's awful. just chronic shoulder blade and back pain forever and the doctors act like it is exactly how it's supposed to be. I regret my surgery.

There's a new procedure out now when you only need 2 areas fused. It looked like some kind of cushioning with springs instead rods. Wish I could remember where I saw it. I needed 3 areas so it wasn't an option for me. Good luck

I have multiple fractures in my spine and kyphoplasty. I have been told that for me to have an operation for it would be very dangerous as it could paralyse me,leave me incontinent or with lasting nerve damage or even dead. But I am in so much pain, what would you advise.
Did you have both: back pain & ciatica?
Thank you so much for the video. May I ask how many hours take for your procedure. Front plus back in total.
They went through my back & my left side. The side hurts worse than the back. I had a cervical fusion last year through the, front. That hurt to, not like this surgery where they went through the, side. Daggum, it still hurts. (3 weeks) *custom lower lumbar with cage.)
How are you going now?
I had ALIF L5/S1 done at the end of January this year!
was this for scoliosis? can you show your xrays?
I’m 22 I’ll be getting l5s1 spondylislothesis
I'm almost 5 weeks post op now but I still have low back pain within 1 minute of getting out of bed. It still radiates to my left button and thigh. I'm definitely discouraged. It's not like I sit around all day, I'm up and resuming regular daily activities. Shopping, meal prep, laundry and light housekeeping. I'm having a PT evaluation on Thursday. Time will tell I guess.
Any update on your buttock and thigh pain after surgery?
@@rinijames7849 I have an appointment with my surgeon on 11/29. Doing physical therapy but its pretty much the same.
I am 27. Herniated my L5-S1 … i feel better after i engage in core work through phyiso. I am avoiding surgery at all costs.
@@kengdahl7667 How are you filling now?
I am having this surgery in two weeks following a failed fusion from last December. Can you please message me on how your doing now. Was it a good decision? Do you feel better?
I just had mine, it took 6 1/2 hrs. But I feel great.
Great video
Very informative thanks
If u have to do a bowel movement, how are u suppose to wipe yourself
Good stuff! I’ve posted my vids as well. I’m 2 weeks post op
How come you didn’t opt for disc replacement?
There’s not enough long-term data on outcomes in younger patients because disc replacement is still relatively new compared to fusion. I asked my surgeon about disc replacement several years ago before I had my fusion…he said they don’t know how long the disc prosthesis can last. Imagine being 25-30, having a disc replacement, then needing a new one in ten to twenty years during the prime of your life? Fusion is permanent.
@@Chels-fz5uq Im on the fence for both but almost sure I'm heading to europe for ADR yet sometimes I think I should just get fused here even though everyone almost has negative things to say about it. hope youre back is well as that is all that matters in the end
@MsCankersore that's exactly what I did, how'd it go for you?!
Regretting it. I was well for couple months and last week I tweaked something while at the gym and now I’m in a lot of discomfort. I followed everything they told me I could do to the T and yet here I am in discomfort. Do your research that’s for sure. I went to Germany and will make sure people stay away from that place.
@MsCankersore get an xray confirm implants are ok.. I have had ups and downs as well (onlyv6 weeks), but I have also talked to people a year out that are still improving.. everyone is different hang in there.. Who did your adr, if you don't mind? Which disk?
Did u have pain after you went home ?
best wishes i go dec 1 2021 my second back surgery first was lambectimy this one fusion
Shirley here, they told me all my piercing had to come out it cost me 50+to get them removes with that tool and to put in retainers. The said I couldn't use tape. Don't get it.
Hospital stay usually that many days?
Thank you big help
Thanks for the video. My son has cerebral palsy and 57-degree scoliosis and having surgery in July; thoracic and lumbar, not sure how many vertebrae will be involved. I'm terrified.
I need T and L fusions ad well (69 yes old) they are doing both levels in one surgery in August (when my sister can help me)
I have this surgery in 2 weeks and I feel like I am about to walk the plank. Chiropractor adjustments , physical therapy and epidural shots have only help me temporarily.
I know. I did the same thing for years. Hope it went we'll
Hey how long did your incision site take to not hurt
A couple of weeks for me. After the first week or so it was just tender and I had to be careful with it and wear loose clothing. I'd say after a month I didn't notice it anymore.
Strange, but I never had pain at the incision sites. My pain was in my low back. It felt like elephant was standing on my back. Thankfully that's eased up a lot 5 weeks post op
How are u after the surgery ? Do u feel any pain or discomfort?
Very Helpful
Hey going in for my ALIF in a couple days how bad actually was the pain? I just hoping to relieve my leg pain been in bed for 7 months now
Hey! The first week or two were not easy. I would say maximum pain around 9 out of 10, but it is not constant pain. I am 2 months out now and already feeling so much better, so it will take time but I believe it's worth it.
@@jennaej1254 that’s great news then :) I just want to use my legs again so I think it will be worth it. No bending twisting must be hard for 6 weeks haha
@@cameronhill8088 It was uncomfortable but the pain does serve as a reminder of when you are doing too much. Just try to set your living situation up to not have to lift or bend before going in for the surgery if you can. I made sure everything I would need was around chest height and that was helpful.
@@jennaej1254 so much pain 3rd day in but on solid foods and haven’t gone toilet. It got 20/10
@@cameronhill8088 That is about how I was as well. Pain was tough! Solid foods on day 3 and waited around a while for stomach movement.
When are you allowed to pass Bowles
They are likely to give you laxatives in the hospital but within the first few days afterwards is what I would expect.
@@jennaej1254 are you allowed to go on the day of surgery?
@@cameronhill8088 I don't think they would stop you, but after the surgery all of the medications generally make it difficult for a bit. I was barely up from bed the first two days.
Having L5-S1 spinal fusion in a few months, im so nervous about the added pain surgery will bring, I dont do well with pain. Your vidoe helped me on what ro expect
Hi what you doing now? You have ideas when can remove the hardware?? I did same surgery 4&5s1 fusion and now 6 months
Did you have the surgery ?
