I live in middle Tennessee my neighborhood has wooded areas, but it's definitely not out in the country. When I got chickens, I was surprised to see foxes in my yard during the day hunting them! I looked into it, and foxes do hunt during the day if their habitats dwindle and food becomes competitive, etc.
Wow! That is crazy. We did have a large hawk last year that was a big problem (took 2 of our girls) but with the rooster we got this year, we haven't had any aerial predator problems yet.
I can't remember, did I mention Oyakyodon for an egg recipe? And OMG poison ivy this year! We've never had it in our yard before but I've managed to get it 5 or 6 times this year! I got it really bad on my face a month or so ago! Lol!
I'll have to write that one down! The poison ivy is horrendous...I wish we could just burn it out of the yard but the risk of inhaling it is too dangerous. I always keep calamine lotion at the ready!
Sounds like you may have a bear hanging around. I have them in my back garden now for the first time after living here for 28 years, and they're being seen in more and more suburban and even urban places now as their population continues to rebound. 🐻
....and their natural habitats are destroyed by over building housing developments. I'm seeing Foxes in my neighborhood hunting during the day! It's crazy
Oh goodness, I don't know what I would do if I saw a bear! I don't think we have any bears native to Texas but I don't think that would stop them traveling around. We managed to catch some footage on our cameras and determined it is a large female bobcat! She has been doing laps around our property :(
@@mydandeliondiaries Omgggg that’s crazy! Can’t be surprised that it’s a bobcat in Texas, I suppose. My first thought was coyote, but you said that it was unlikely. Bobcat should have been my second guess. 😅 Any thoughts of what to do with her/stop her?
@@RachelNorie We laid out some catch and release traps to see if we can capture her. She has evaded all of them so far though... We do have a coyote too, but I've never sheen a coyote climb an 8ft wooden fence, that's what makes me think it is the bobcat. Plus she is big...like almost 3ft long, 18" tall kinda thing.
@@mydandeliondiaries Damn, she's a big one! Good luck catching her - hopefully your birds will get some peace now that y'all know what to look for and protect them from. 🙏
I know!! I felt so bad for her when she was taken. I can't imagine how scary it must be. We finally got some footage of the killer though. It is a big female bobcat! She has been circling the property every few days :( luckily our dogs are able to stay out during the day now since the heat has subsided. They are great at pulling security 😂

I never knew foxes hunted during the day! That is great info to know. I'm not sure if we have any foxes, but we definitely have coyotes and bobcats.

Your poor birds! Definitely interested to see what this predator ends up being! 😳
We FINALLY caught the predator on camera. It is a big female bobcat. She's managed to evade us for now, but now we know what to look for!
