Josh received the highest honor this day with a "It's good, if not better." from his granny
Welp thanks for being the first comment in my comments section and spoiling it.
@@sammythefox1057 who reads the comments before they watch the video?
@@RyanDudziak on mobile it has one single comment that you can see before you start the video. This was the one for me.
I honestly can't enjoy my own food unless my folks like it too. 😂
Truly the highest honor in his career.
The way she calls Josh "my darling." The heart just melts.
Okay but why was Josh's impression of his grandma so convincing?!
Like he said, he waited until she hit 100 so he could finally beat her. Now he shall take her place. He had to get the voice right first, though.
The video was out 1 minute when you commented
that was the first thing i noticed too!
@@whatsallthisabout3606 Lol, when he started talking in the intro, I fully thought it was his grandma!
I thought he was just trying to do a proper old lady voice. Only to realize it was kind of spot on.
Josh: Has new Mythical Kitchen brand oven mitts.
Also Josh: Holds the scalding cast iron pot with his bare hands.
That's Josh for ya!
right?! missed opportunity for a natural plug!
could have used mythical kitchen towels, or even the mythical apron, but nope; gotta burn his hands
Josh is the embodiment of "Full Send, or No Send."
Judging from granny’s voice at the end, Josh NAILED the impression 😂
The way she said “You put CHOCOLATE?!” 💀
She’s a legend, hope she continues to live a long and fulfilling life
"Chocolate. I remember when they first invented chocolate. Sweet, sweet chocolate...I ALWAYS HATED IT!"
@@FborgesR oh but this chocolate isn’t for eating you uh……you rub on your skin and it’ll make you live forever
"Good if not better."
That, Josh, is the highest honour you will ever get from a grandma, full stop.
Why did I think Emily was going to come out dressed as his grandma? 😂 😂
They should have had her play his grandma during the cooking part
I was expecting nicole
SAME!
She’s not that funny to me, so I think it’s really cool that he had his real grandma on. This was a great episode.
same!
Dang your grandma seems sharp as a tack. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe.
I didn't expect Josh's impression of his grandma to be that good, I thought it was a joke until I heard her speak
Same! I was like oh my god, he was spot on haha
Actually think she said “as good, if not better” which is even better
Fr, i thought he was exagerating just a little lol
I’m South African, his old granny South African accent is better than any other American that I’ve heard attempting the accent
@@philip4534 How often are you hearing Americans attempt a South African granny accent?
Please use the "you didn't remember" sound clip everytime Josh forgets an ingredient
"I'm going to taste it and give harsh judgement"
I can see the sass that passed on to Josh.
"it's all very good darling" has the same energy as a grandma at a family reunion trying to hold up a grown up conversation while simultaneously critiquing the kids mud pies. 😂
“You didn’t tell me about the soup”
“You didn’t listen”
You can’t win arguments with grannies!!! Awesome episode Josh.
Amen!!! Granny is always roght even if everyone knows she is wrong. We use to let her tell us the way she "remembered" but we all knew that was not correct
You didn't remember* as in he should've remember from when she cooked it lol. Can't win, indeed.
I appreciate Josh as an individual and as a chef so much. He's helped me realize I can be a hot mess, distracted, burn myself, and still be a kickass chef with a gigantic heart!
honestly, yeah, that's all i aspire to be.
My Grandma just turned 109! She’s the second oldest person in Western Australia. 🙌🙌🙌
That's insanely cool
So are you gonna be a good grandkid and kill the oldest so your grandma can win?
Wow, good for her! Here's to her claiming the top spot one day!
That’s so awesome! ❤️
Did she get her letter from the queen?
As a South African, the way your gran said "otherwise" sounds like the iconic Saffa-proverb: "otherwise, you well?". Made me smile! Happy 100th granny :)
South African here too. His gran gave me life
@@missbadhairday1426 The way he said Naas had me rolling.
South African here too. When she said "It's all very good, my darling" I wanted to cry with how much she reminded me of my own Ouma.
The most adorable episode yet. Visit Granny as much as possible Josh!
I loved this video! Josh's relationship with his nan is so nice. At 20:19 where it says [indiscernable], she says "There's paper towels there incase you need it. Serviettes" :)
Josh, I know we didn't actually see your grandma taste testing, but just hearing her was ADORABLE!!! She clearly loves you so much, I loved this episode a whole lot too :)
As a South African, hearing his granny reminds me so much of mine (talk about nostalgia) .Josh really nailed his granny’s accent, especially with the strawberry 😂. That being said, would also love to see more South African influence in the “international taste test” episodes.
20:18 "There's paper towels there [in case you need them]"
I just came here to ask how they couldn’t understand her saying that! It was quite clear to me.
Thank you it bothered me that they didn't understand it I understood her clearly
Also came to say the same. Clear as day to me. I wonder how many people and editors listened to this clip on repeat completely baffled? No hate editors, y’all doing good work! Sometimes those accents trip people up. I almost have to “tune my ear” to a new accent before I start following along.
I was searching the comments exactly for this. She was perfectly easy to understand.
Maybe some US Americans struggle because of her accent?
I've noticed that US content often puts subtitles on people with English, Australian, and South African accents (even if they are very mild).
Genuinely one of the most wonderful things I've seen on GMM/Mythical Kitchen. Josh's sassy gran at the end when he's like 'you didn't tell me about the soup base!'... wholesome gold *chefs kiss* Thank you for giving me the pick-me-up I didn't know I needed today x
"It's good, if not better" is AT LEAST as big a feather in your cap as any of the praise you've gotten from a food critic thus far. That updated Ashkenazi Mole version looked phenomenal, I will say
Josh: [promotes mythical kitchen towels and oven mitts]
Also Josh: [touching hot pots and pans with bare hands] OWW OW OWOW
The Mythical kitchen towel on the oven door: 👁👄👁
The fact that Josh's impression of his grandma is so good has me howling 😂
I honestly couldn't believe it ended up being fairly accurate.
"Tzimes" in Yiddish means carrots sweetened with honey and sugar cooked into it. Traditionally it is eaten during the Jewish new year Rosh Hashanah.
Oh that makes sense that its for rosh Hashanah. Its sweet to bring in a sweet new year.
I can imagine Josh’s grandma at 100 years old still berating him for his cooking whilst he sits there in dismay 😂
It was so damn heartwarming hearing Josh getting his Grandma's approval - the "AWWWWWW!!!!" factor was off the charts for me!
I have tears in my eyes thinking of my own grandparents, ngl.
I love it took spending an entire episode talking about his Granny for Josh to quell the chaos a little... Now, I'm here for the chaos, but it's very sweet that talking about/impersonating Granny is what tempers it.
Josh, while making his Jewish Grandmother's recipe: "You know what else peaked in 1942?"
Me: don't say it. Don't say it. Don't say it.
Josh: Candy
Me: Phew
Steve Rogers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
We were all thinking that lol
this made me get so emotional about my grandma..she unfortunately has parkinson’s and is now in a nursing home..but what i didn’t realise is that there would eventually come a time when I would taste her dishes for the very last time💔 i’m so thankful she cooked for me all the traditional Greek-Cypriot dishes and opened my palette to all sorts of interesting ingredients, God bless grandmas👵🏽
edit: grandma passed away peacefully in her sleep, i’ll forever be thankful of the lovely dishes she cooker for me all those years
I lost my grandpa to Parkinson's, too. I'd give anything to have a meal cooked by him again, even the questionable ones. 😂
much love to your family :( I relate a bit too, I lost my grandma to Alzheimer's and miss cooking with her.
I wasn't expecting to cry but my grandma passed a few years ago and this made me miss her so much.
I lost my nana last year, and hearing his gma say it was good if not better made me tear up.
@@lilly_koii i lost my nana to alzheimers as well its such a hard disease i. Sorry for your loss
My grandmother is 90 and had a near death scare recently. I was helping take care of her when she was released from the hospital and I made pancakes one morning. My grandmother, THE cook of the family, said they were the best pancakes she has ever had and couldn’t stop raving about them to everyone. It’s one of my proudest accomplishments. There is nothing like making your grandmother proud of you when she taught you how to cook 🥹
This is great. Cherish her Josh. I lost one of my Grandmothers 25 years before I was born and the other when I was 4 or 5. I have two memories of my Grandma June, her pinching my cheeks and calling me lamby pie and the other is of her funeral. Spend as much time as you can with your Grandmother.
Lost my mom's side granny when I was 18. Lost my step grandma at 20. My Dad's mom is still alive and she is amazing but I live 1700 miles away. My wife's grandma passed in 2011. Her mom died in 08. It is seriously hard not to have grandmas for myself and kids. My mom doesn't want anything to do with me. Grandmas are the best. Wish I didn't lose mine.
What a beautiful memory that you'll be able to cherish forever. I think this has been my favorite video because I could feel just how much it meant to you. A wonderful tribute to your grandma at the end of her wonderful life. I only knew one of my grandparents and she passed when I was 7. I'm a sucker for these videos.
"There's paper towels there in case you need it" - that isn't remotely indiscernible; makes perfect sense to me.
I was going to say the same thing, but I figured I'd check the comments first. Sounded quite clear to me.
I couldn't make heads or tails of it lol. But perhaps my brain was prepared to hear gibberish since I read the text saying "indiscernible" before the audio got to that point.
But going back, now, after reading what you said that she said, it sounds very obvious. Sadly, I can't get another first time listen to try without reading the text before lol.
came here to make this comment lol
She doesn't say 'it', she just takes a breath and really enunciates her Ds. She says "There's paper towels there, in case you neeD...serviettes." She's saying if you need a serviette, use those paper towels.
@@ringosis It really doesn't matter. That's like "one-upping" someone while pushing up your glasses and exclaiming "ACKSHULLY!"
This is such a sweet episode. My grandma was from Italy, and some of my best memories with her are around her cooking. I'd give anything to share a meal with her again. She passed away 16 years ago. Before she passed, she told me I was an excellent cook as well. High praise from someone whose cooking was her love language. Cherish these moments, Josh. They are priceless. My love to you and Granny.
My own granny just passed this past January at 90 years old. She loved Judge Judy for the exact same reason, no amount of reruns could satiate her love of that particular show lol.
The reveal at the end that Josh's impression of his grandmother was spot on and not just a bit took me tf out
Your grandmother sounds like a wonderful woman Josh! And congrats to her on reaching triple digits!
Omg, I never would have thought that Josh's impression of his grandma was that spot on
"Yeah. That's the chocolate prune beef with my, um, potato kugel." Really striking a confident tone, Josh! Love that Granny is wearing the apron.
Aw, I love Josh's grandma! I thought it was Emily doing an impression at first and I realized I wasn't being fooled. What a lovely lady with amazing recipes. Good job, Josh!
Happy 100 yrs Granny! She sounds like a lovely lady. Spot on impression, Josh 😂😂
I am here for more Grandma Recipes. Not to mention UA-cam is a great way to preserve the stories and recipes of our elders. What a treat man. Thanks for sharing her with the MK viewers.
This was so sweet! Making memories with her, learning from her and honoring her by passing on her knowledge is beautiful for both of you! She seems like a wonderful lady! 🥰
This definitely made me miss my own grandma, who passed just a few months ago. She was 98 1/2 and we spent a lot of time together! She also passed down her favorite recipes. I miss her tons, and I’m glad to see others, like Josh, appreciating the time they have with their grandparents! 🥰
I am a Roman Catholic Italian, who married an Ashkenazi Jewish man, when we married in 1989 he had his grandmother teach me all these recipes and I’m glad she did because now years later when he craves these dishes I can make them for him. His grandma passed in 2001 and I still love all the recipes.
This should be a series. Love the grandma stories and these cool recipes.
Grandma can do whatever she wants.
Probably just modernizing some really old, traditional recipes instead of bothering granny to keep tasting them all the time. It'd be neat to see all of the Mythical Kitchen hosts come in with their generations old family cookbooks, wrapped up in cling-film to protect them from Josh's hectic antics, and try to do a modern take on some of their recipes.
I would just like to point out how gracious and thoughtful it was that they didn't film granny. From a production standpoint, the show needed to go on and the pivot from video to audio was seamless and told the story just as effectively. Good job Mythical Kitchen!
This is such a testament to the great people we are blessed to have, and the way their cooking impacts our lives. Josh's grandma is so proud of him, even if she doesn't know what youtube is. I wish every day that I had my grandmas recipes. Josh be sure to visit her every chance you get
Aww, this was sweet and made me cry because I miss my grandma everyday.
As a South African, Josh is really nailing that ‘ah’ sound in “slice”! Great accent!
This was great to watch Josh! I can tell you really love your Granny. I think it's important we have these old recipes before they are all gone. My grandma passed away last September and in going through her things found books and books of handwritten family recipes! I can't wait to type them all up and give them to my family for Christmas.
"There's paper towels in case you need it. Serviettes." There you go.
Awe Josh, and the rest of the Mythical Kitchen, What a treat to have Josh's grandmother on as part of the show. She's such a gem. Thank you all for this. We ❤you Grandma!!!
This is probably one of my favorite episodes. Very wholesome. The love Josh has for his granny is very present.
That last bit was so cute I miss my grandma now. She turned 90 back on April 30th and passed the next morning.
Happy birthday Josh's grandma!! Would love to see/hear more of her and/or her recipes!
This is exactly how my Great Aunt's recipes are written. There is a lot of "enough cumin" or spices to taste
OMG THE ACCENT HE WAS DOING THE WHOLE TIME WAS PERFECT AND I THOUGHT HE WAS DOING A BIT
Plot twist: both voices at the end are Josh...
I LOVE the idea of you recreating some of her recipes like this and seeing what she thinks. Plural, please! Even if she wants nothing to do with filming; the audio was great. Your impression of her is spot on. I think it hits all of us who have a feisty, elderly family member. We gotta keep those recipes they make going on or they get lost forever when they pass on
I love this so much! I love her so much! Thank you Josh for the sneak peak into this amazing woman's life.
I think I speak for everyone when I say we absolutely adore and love your grandma Josh, her accent is amazing and shes lived a long wonderful life and helped raise an amazing grandchild. Cheers to many more nana videos.
I remember Josh used to be awkward and timid, now he is the exact opposite. Proud.
this was so sweet and wholesome.
josh's granny reminds me of my own grandmother who passed about five years ago now. She was English (and served in the british army in wwii) living in Canada and she was big into cooking and made sure me and my brothers all knew how to cook. The way josh's granny talks to him is the same way my grandmother used to talk to me.
This was such a great episode!!
dangit Josh I come here for laughs and cooking inspiration and this is the second video in a row that you've made me cry
The conversation with granny about the recipe and what's missing reminds me so much of making my mom's recipes. There's no written recipes and she'll list off vague ingredients with vague steps. Then you make it and it's not really the same and she's asks "well did you do this obscure thing that I didn't tell you, that's what I always do" 🤦♀️ 😂
Loved this. Makes me miss my grandparents even more though. Josh should do more episodes with his granny while she's still here! Maybe a podcast with granny?!
Bro, you gotta start grandma on an entry-level sushi, like a California roll or a tempura shrimp roll. Once she's hooked, you move in with the raw stuff. This is how my wife got me to love it.
Blown away how spot on Josh’s impression of his grandma was 🤯
You are so blessed to have a Granny who is so sharp and kind. I've only got one left so cherish her for as long as you can.
I thought you were being extra with your grandmas accent and I was so happy to know you were not. MORE ONIONS JOSH
Something about Grandma Josh really warms the heart and makes this world feel like a better place. We need more Josh family interactions on the show.
Your Granny sounds so cute. Makes me miss both of mine. My Irish Granny would be 123 if she were still alive ( probably really mad about still being around) and my German Granny would be 113. She would probably still be making sour brauten & pot roasts!
So glad Granny approved of the updated version. But next time.... remember the dried chicken soup mix!
This was a heartwarming and very sweet episode. Josh’s grandma seems like a very lovely, dignified lady.
Oh my goodness, Granny sounds hilarious! She reminds me of my late grandma, too funny
Your grandmother's voice is so sweet and kind. Im glad that she was able to come on the show even in voice. What a lovly lady.
"It's all very good, my darling" the most wholesome thing this channel will ever display
That was just plain wholesome. Your granny seems like a sweet lady and I am glad she enjoyed your dish and gave you a glittering review of your food. Family approval is always tough to get but it's reassuring to have it.
That was fun. The whole time I thought you were making a cartoonish interpretation of your grandma, then I heard her and no… that was really accurate!
Bless your lovely grandmother and her endorsement of this recipe. I literally cried when she gave you props. What a beautiful moment to share.
Your grandma is an Ashkenazi from South Africa? Ok. Josh. Straight up. You might be the most interesting man in the world. Move over, beer guy.
i was so excited to hear your grandma after your impressions of her and she did not disappoint, she sounds so sweet
Josh how long should I cook it?
Grandma until it's done!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
She's not wrong.
I love how in the audio, they make Josh's picture look like one of those Bundy/Dahmer Netflix documentaries.
I was wondering why it looked like photos my folks took around the 90s in our very wooden paneled house.
Oh my god you shared my dish 😭 can’t keep calm…. Thank you for inspiring millions to try cooking and experimenting with food.
Congrats! They looked DELICIOUS! 😄👍
It looked beautiful!
I love his grandmother. She is so honest with her critiques but in a way that he can take them and make it even better the next time. She seems like a really good and kind grandma that loves Josh very much and is so proud of him. Josh if you read this, hold onto your grandma and those memories as long as you can.
I hope y’all did a Last Meals episode wit Post if not u should def invite him back to do that
omg this better become a series!
HOW DARE YOU FORGET THE CHICKEN SOUP BASE?!?!
Nothing better than talking/sharing food with Granny. Really enjoyed this one.
Haven't been this early ....ever 😆
Me neither 😬
Me 3 🤣🤣🤟
This was the most precious episode of MK - what a precious and special memory!
Kugel just means sphere
grandmas are the best! as someone who grew up with my grandma, her cooking was always comforting for me!
this could be a really great series you guys make. just make grandma recipes from all the crew and you can update them as well! this would be really interesting. sharing recipes, sharing stories. :D
I have my grandmas recipe cards. None of them have cooking temperatures and they all have measurements like "butter the side of a walnut" haha
Do share a recipe o:
This video is so heartwarming. Having such a genuine and tender moment with your grandmother, sharing something you’re both passionate about (to varying degrees), and having that time together is so wholesome. Great video.
Respect your elders because they have had the courage to live on this floating ball of crap much much longer than you.
Great video. Got to love grandma's opinions they don't hold back. Sadly both of my grandmas are gone but not forgotten. Miss that homemade love.
NGL, listening to your grandma made me cry. She sounds sweet and amazing and perfect and you look bunches like her. 💖
this nearly made me cry... there is nothing better than talking about old cooking recipes and just stories with your grandparents, I'm so grateful for everything they taught me :(((
