Great video! I've never cleaned my filters and always paid someone to do it for me but after watching your very thorough video I think I can handle it. Thank you for a GREAT video on how to clean my Jandy cartridge filters!!!
Several things not clearly mentioned in this very good video. First, the air relief valve on top of the filter assembly is left open to drain and to refill the filter once the filter is reassembled. This is a high point vent and is used to make sure water drains easily and allows water to refill the filter housing. Second, shut the filter pump isolation valve prior to removing the filters belly band. Not doing so allows water from the pool to enter the filter via the pump. Third, once reassembled, refill the filter by opening the filter pump isolation valve and wait until water flows out of the filter air valve on top of the filter. One could start the pump (once the isolation valve was opened) but that would result in a hydraulic transient on the cartridge filters and could damage them. Enjoy your pool!
I don’t believe there is a filter isolation valve. I watched the beginning of about 6 of these jandy videos and not one person mentions an isolation valve that needs to be shut off.
Heating unit wasn't working so I checked the pressure on the Filter and it did indeed say it was dirty. Followed this video and was able to clean the filter and get the heating unit to turn back on. Thank you for your help.
Thanks for the video. I was able to clean out my my tank and cartridges and fixed my problem of a slow suction from my pool vacuum. The pump runs like new again and the water falls are stronger! 👍
Great video and thanks for sharing. The only question I had was, one the filter is assembled, does the pressure valve need to be opened up then? Or, does the filter pump/jandy system need to started again to let water flow circulate back into the filter again? Thank you. 👍🏼
Interesting. From what source did you fill the filter tank with water? The pump was not cut on until after that tank was filled and the trapped air released. Thanks for making this video.
Enjoyed this video. But I have a huge question. I had to clean my clients Jandy filters and each one of them I had difficulties closing the band clamp together so I can place my bolt back on. I tried using my rubber mallet to close the gap but that didn’t work. So I had to use my channel locks to forcefully squeeze the gap together so both ends are touching. I’ve spent 3.5 hours doing this and in my opinion, this should never happens. So what was I doing wrong? Pls help
I am confused, the glimpse of the pressure gauge suggests that cleaning is not due - the cartridges are clean before you start cleaning them, the container interior is the cleanest I have seen - you do not use any silicone lubricant on the O rings, at the end you open the air-relief valve that you did not close and you do not replace the drain cap - other than that is a great video
Is this a CL580? Do I need to close any valves or anything to prevent any additional water flow or simply just make sure the power to my filter is off and then pull the drain plug?
Couple questions, our pool sits higher than our filters so water will never be totally drained out of the filter housing, how should I drain it enough to properly clean? Second, is there a valve that shuts off flow to the pump or is shutting down the system sufficient? Also, how are you refilling after?
Melissa Lee if the filter is below water level, then yes, otherwise you don't have too, but it's a good idea to close the valves on the suction end so the pump doesn't have to reprime again. If you have a DE filter with a multiport, you can just put it into recirculate while you clean it, so you don't have to mess with all the valves, just make sure to put it back in filter before adding DE or you'll be vacuuming it up.
I see the comments that the drain cap has to be put back on. I am confused about the air relief valve. I thought it was opened at the beginning of draining the water out of the filter but was it then closed? Once the air is bleed out of the filter do you close it? I do not think this is mentioned? This is a "newbe" question but how come the water fills the tank in the video before he has turned on the equipment? Thanks for any help on these questions
It was opened at the beginning of the video, he just made sure you know to open it when restarting the system.The air relief is closed after the air is bled out. that is, when water finally begins to come out of it. I am not sure I understand your last question, but the filter system is filled with pressured water at all times. For this reason, you must release the air and then open the water valve at the bottom before removing the center ring.
Took me 3 hours. The filters in my pool clearly havent been cleaned in the 5 years the pool has been standing. Absolutely FILTHY. Great video though taught me everything.
Just wondering why you wouldn’t tell your audience that they need to use DE Powder for the Filter when your finished. DR Powder: When diatomaceous earth is introduced into the pool filter system, it coats the filter cloth. As water passes over the filter grids, the DE particles capture even the smallest suspended dirt particles. When cleaning is needed, the water flow is simply reversed.

the best tip was the band bolt that has to be vertical not horizontal.....Thanks, now I know why it is leaking.

Did I miss the last when he put the drain plug cap back on ? I'm guessing you do that after you flush it before you open the pressure valve.
Did you restart the pump in order to bleed out water from the pressure valve and also I’d assume you replaced the drain plug?
You want to make sure and put the drain cap back on before you start to refill it!
