I have taught this in many of my teachings. Perhaps you haven't come across them. In Jewish thought and usage as per their day-to-day vernacular, an event that transpires for over one hour is called 'a day and a night'. It does not necessarily be a day and a night in a literal sense. Thus, Jesus died at 3PM on Friday and Friday ended at 6PM; These 3 hours would be 'one day and one night' even though a night was not involved in a literal sense. Then from 6PM of Friday to 6PM of Saturday would be the second 'one day and one night'. Then from 6PM on Saturday to early morning of Sunday would be the third 'one day and one night' even though a day time was not involved in a literal sense. Thus, Jesus rose again on the third day since He died from a Jewish context.
Funny . One hour=one day Any Bible basis? John 11:9 Are there not TWELVE HOURS IN THE DAY. (6 am to 6 pm) Mt.12:40. For as Jonah was THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS in the belly.......
Yes it is funny because we try to understand in our vernacular. In the same way, it will be funny for a foreigner to hear Tamils in Sri Lanka say "I ate a good dhall" or calling the cop "uncle" and addressing girls as "figures". Also they will laugh when they hear "what will four people say" (naluper enna sovanga) and they will ask who are those 4 people. We must understand that the Bible is a Jewish book written by God using Jews in the Jewish vernacular. We must respect that. One question to you please: Is there any Bible confirmation that 'knowing' implies sexual intercourse? No right? Then how would you assume when the Bible says "Adam knew his wife" to be sexual intercourse? On the same token, an event transpiring for over a hour being called 'a day and a night' by the Jews may be funny to you but for them that was a day-to-day vernacular. You don't need Bible basis for everything. If so, nobody except for one or two persons like king Saul went to toilet because the bible doesn't say so. If you don't know something, you must listen to experts who have studied those things. People who have studied Jewish culture and customs will laugh at you when you say funny to the very common Jewish expressions. Don't try to tell the Jews that 'one day and one night' has to be 24 hours because John 11:9 and Matthew 12:40 suggest the same. It will be funny to them.

I have taught this in many of my teachings. Perhaps you haven't come across them. In Jewish thought and usage as per their day-to-day vernacular, an event that transpires for over one hour is called 'a day and a night'. It does not necessarily be a day and a night in a literal sense. Thus, Jesus died at 3PM on Friday and Friday ended at 6PM; These 3 hours would be 'one day and one night' even though a night was not involved in a literal sense. Then from 6PM of Friday to 6PM of Saturday would be the second 'one day and one night'. Then from 6PM on Saturday to early morning of Sunday would be the third 'one day and one night' even though a day time was not involved in a literal sense. Thus, Jesus rose again on the third day since He died from a Jewish context.

Yes it is funny because we try to understand in our vernacular. In the same way, it will be funny for a foreigner to hear Tamils in Sri Lanka say "I ate a good dhall" or calling the cop "uncle" and addressing girls as "figures". Also they will laugh when they hear "what will four people say" (naluper enna sovanga) and they will ask who are those 4 people. We must understand that the Bible is a Jewish book written by God using Jews in the Jewish vernacular. We must respect that. One question to you please: Is there any Bible confirmation that 'knowing' implies sexual intercourse? No right? Then how would you assume when the Bible says "Adam knew his wife" to be sexual intercourse? On the same token, an event transpiring for over a hour being called 'a day and a night' by the Jews may be funny to you but for them that was a day-to-day vernacular. You don't need Bible basis for everything. If so, nobody except for one or two persons like king Saul went to toilet because the bible doesn't say so. If you don't know something, you must listen to experts who have studied those things. People who have studied Jewish culture and customs will laugh at you when you say funny to the very common Jewish expressions. Don't try to tell the Jews that 'one day and one night' has to be 24 hours because John 11:9 and Matthew 12:40 suggest the same. It will be funny to them.
