I really hope they make siege battle cool again. Empire suck so hard for attacking or defending forts/cities. It was just a mass infantry Rush on all sides. Invader walks on your land and attacks. Never a chance to get an actual army there in time because almost every troop can just throw up a grappling hook but somehow walking army up a wall and still fight back. No one or two turns to build siege equipment. To even have a chance to get reinforcements there.

I think a "Total War" set from the Paleolithic to the Neolithic would be awesome. Rome Total War will always hold a special place in my heart. The soundtracks for this game were just epic and the gameplay was so much fun. If I could choose, I would definitely love to see an Empire 2 or Medieval 3 TW game. Empire 2's sea battles were super fun and epic, too.
The Total War Saga games are made by another studio, their work has a chance to develop in a way of its own. I would give them props, and really enjoyed Troy!
This channel and content deserve more recognition. Three Kingdoms Records mode is the best for me. The western setting of the previous total wars are so tiring and too mainstream for me
Having read the books, and being a fan of the Koei games, I was very excited for the Three Kingdoms. It does a decent job of capturing the feel, and I like that factions play very differently. But the super-hero generals rolling armies on their own, in a historical setting... that wore out the game quite quickly for me.
I’ve played every TW release besides the Warhammer games (someday) and love them but, they need a future release set in the Americas pre/post Columbus. The historical events and upheaval could make for an amazing game. It would also be a very fresh setting for the franchise.
Rome: Total War, the only game of the series I tried, was absolutely fantastic. I spent at least 2.000 hours playing it. Later I installed Medieval: Total War, but some of the controls didn't work (didn't respond), so I couldn't play the game.
The video is great, I really appreciate your content! The only part I disagree with is when you say "Total war is the only strategy game that manages the dual system of campaign map and separate battles". Xcom and Age of Wonders do that as well
Yeah they are different games overall but those other 2 franchises do separate layers for battles the same way. Anyway nothing important, keep up with the good videos mate :))
Been playing since Rome (I played Shogun Demo as a kid as well) and I'm pouring so many hours now into TW: Warhammer 3. I really think the fantasy setting with all it's unique races and units is exactly what TW needed. I wonder if they might give Warhammer 40k a go and create an Empire Spin off :)
Bridge taking already existed in Shogun 1, and each province had a specific map. Also the crusade and POW/ransom mechanics were introduced in Medieval 1, it didn't wait Med 2.
It’s definitely aged, but it still retains major features that have been changed later - like the city building role playing, crusades, forts, general speeches, road building, etc. Definitely would love a new and upgraded one though.
I can see why people would love to see a Medieval 3 or an Empire 2 as the next historic game. But I think that before going into a game which covers once again the whole of the High and Late Middle Ages, I would prefer to see a game first that covers the time in between Medieval and Empire, like a Total War: Renaissance. This could cover the 15th and 16th centuries and allow the player during the game to discover and conquer new continents after starting out on the usual Europe, Near East, Northern Africa based map.
I'm actually ok with having a remastered Medieval 2 Total War or a Medieval 3 with the same mechanics as MTW 2, but with a graphical update and a bigger map. I really want a map that stretches from the Americas to China. One reason why I love Warhammer 3 Immortal Empire's is because its the only total war game that allows me to play the HRE and invade China.
im just saying, a total war medieval 3 would be the best move for the next game. civil disputes being squashed with full body plated armor infantry like war of the roses
Top total war game for me personally: 1. Medieval 2 2. Napoleon 3. Rome 2 (didn't pick it up until post launch fixes) 4. The immortal and mortal empires campaigns for Warhammer. I've lost years of my life to this wonderful franchise 😅
I find a new TW a tough sell at launch. They’re usually broken at launch, for a few months anyways. But it isn’t that. We have such a variety of theatres that they must find it hard keeping it fresh, I personally look at all my options and wonder why I’d ever need another🤷🏻♂️🛸
Awesome video man I’m sure you don’t respond to year old comments but I feel for you and your brother when it came to empire as someone who didn’t have internet for a lot of my youth I turned 30 today me and my brother and cousin several times got games thinking they was going to be two players or atleast hot seat like you said just to devastated when we couldn’t. Also I’m trying to decide which games to get I have a 2016 computer so it has to be one of the older ones I’ve only ever played shogun 2 and fall of the samurai and I’ve always wanted to play Rome 2 and warhammer 1 so I’m trying to decide which one. Anyways if anyone asked me how to decide which one I would send them to this video and say check it out plus your reviews on them thank you for that.
Hey, thank you so much for the comment, Tyler! Glad to know me and my brother weren't the only ones having fun gaming together :) Honestly, I'd recommend Rome 2, especially with the DEI mod which I've made a separate video on if you're interested :)
Gotten back to Total War games after quite long break and gotta say i still prefer most the Rome TW (in this case the remastered) but Medieval 2 comes close 2nd :D Tho as little shout out to their other game not here, Spartan: Total Warrior. That game was so fun back in the day as well =D
Would love that! Although I’m not a big fan of combat naval battles like in Rome 2, so I’d have to wait until I had some Carracks or Gallions with cannons ;)
Ah man, it’s so hard because like you’ll have to weigh all time greats vs what’s objectively best right now. BUT. If I may. I’d say the 3 best Total War games right NOW, are Attila, Fall of the Samurai, and Napoleon. But my favourites? Like, personal favourites which were also the best for their time? Medieval 2, Rome, and Attila. The worst, for me personally, have to be Thrones of Britannia, Warhammer 2 and Three Kingdoms. The first is because it’s a really bad TW game IMO, the latter two because they’re in settings I have no particular interest in whatsoever, even though I realize their both good/great games for those who love them and for what they are. Does that makes sense at all? What about yourself?
@@AndysTake My personal favourites are Medieval 2, Rome 1 and Fall of the Samurai. But right now I would say the best ones are, Medieval 2(stainless steel 6.4 specifically), Attila and Fall of the Samurai. I won't rank warhammer bcoz I never played it. For me the worst total war games are - Empire Total War(hate to say it as I love that time period), Total War Rome 2 and Thrones of Britannia.
@@aranighosh3945 yeah, Stainless Steel is just the best. I love playing Medieval 2, but it’s not fit for modern computers, the screen just slides so fast to the side when you move the mouse and such
I still miss having my Joms Vikings march on unsuspecting foes. Medieval 3, Empire 2... I'm looking forward to what comes next, but I'm never buying a game when it first comes out again. Too many bugs in Rome 2 and 3 Kingdoms to pay full price for them. Troy was a good price, signed up to Epic for that, will probably give it a go next year. I really hope they open up the modding in the future. Some of the mods, in the old days, were terrific, and even I modded Rome to some extent. (And Medieval I, but my cannon ball throwing uberman was more a joke than serious attempt to improve the game)
I think it's a cool overview, but I have a totally reversed opinion of Medieval 2 & Empire. I watched people play Medieval 2 after having started myself with Rome 1, but never felt like Medieval 2 was worth playing over Rome at all. Then Empire came along & it became my most played title in the series. While things like reduced modability are true, the game becomes a charm with Darthmod which fixes many of the problems mentioned & not mentioned here. New systems like RTS naval battles (which is the third field after turn-based strategy & RTS land battles) or the scale of the world map were what I wanted to happen next after Rome 1. That said Empire also didn't do many of the things that would make me stop continuing the series after Shogun 2 with faction DLCs, less to no unit variety between factions in Shogun 2, even less modability then the turn away from historical titles. The only place where everybody can agree is that Creative Assembly tried to bite off more than they can chew in Empire, which is noticable by all the cut content findable in the files & sometimes visible ingame by proxy.
Grew up in early 2000s, my first encounter with Rome TW was a mindblowing experience. Then came Medieval 2, a big improvement to Rome, the speech is hilarious though. Then came Empire, the new mechanic is kinda rich, but I somehow lost the hype. Napoleon was more polished but it feels a bit arcade-ish. Not long after that we got the legendary Shogun 2 & FOTS. I got mindblown once again. The battle is still the best even for today's standard. Rome II was great but I prolly played too many games so it wasn't impress me that much. I gave up TW after Warhammer (which I totally clueless of the theme). Three Kingdoms came and it was awesome but I didn't spent as much time the way I did with Rome & Medieval 2. Shogun 2 has the best, smoothest engine and very convenient. But still, Rome 1 & Medieval 2 are my personal favorites.
I honestly still play rome 1 and Shogun two but less so because it can run on anything the graphics are alright and the gameplay and everything is good

More to binge!
Thank you! :D so glad you liked it! It was long indeed, became a lot longer than I expected when I began haha
@@AndysTake Tackling such a subject takes a lot of time - so I applaud you for doing this! :)
We need more videos like this
Have you tried New World out of curiosity?
thanks for your great video, im new at total war franchise. this makes me want to try older total war title
Thank you so much for watching and leaving such a nice comment! Definitely check them out, especially when they’re on sale :D
Rome Total War will always hold a special place in my heart. The soundtracks for this game were just epic and the gameplay was so much fun.
If I could choose, I would definitely love to see an Empire 2 or Medieval 3 TW game.
Empire 2's sea battles were super fun and epic, too.
Fantastic video man! I don't think I'll ever completely agree with you on Empire though ;)
Thanks, man! ;) hahaha I love empire despite everything though, but I get, I get it!
You got a new subscriber just for the 'malaka' part
Thanks mate ;)
The Total War Saga games are made by another studio, their work has a chance to develop in a way of its own. I would give them props, and really enjoyed Troy!
try were fantastic just not a fan by bronze age most of units feel the same which is logic for that time period
This channel and content deserve more recognition. Three Kingdoms Records mode is the best for me. The western setting of the previous total wars are so tiring and too mainstream for me
Thank you so much, dude, that really means a lot. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Records mode was definitely the most fun for me as well.
Later I installed Medieval: Total War, but some of the controls didn't work (didn't respond), so I couldn't play the game.
still play Rome total war the original on my 6-year-old pc and barbarian invasion
How to play Shogun 1: run from Geisha, it basically game over when your daimyo dead.
Good thing in shogun 2 dead daimyo will just replaced.
Haha damn that’s intense!
Shogun 2= sow chaos with Christian agents before Realm Divide.
The original concept was the nintendo game shingen the ruler. Each region has a battle map and castle map.
Great video! I just subbed :)
Thank you so much, Michael! I’m so glad you enjoyed it, love to have you onboard! :D
The video is great, I really appreciate your content!
The only part I disagree with is when you say "Total war is the only strategy game that manages the dual system of campaign map and separate battles".
Xcom and Age of Wonders do that as well
Thank you, Max! Ah yes I suppose you’re right, although the battle maps in those other games are a bit different, don’t you agree? :)
Yeah they are different games overall but those other 2 franchises do separate layers for battles the same way. Anyway nothing important, keep up with the good videos mate :))
@@Max-zs6ur Thank you, and thanks for taking the time to comment! :D
Even Star Wars Empire at War does this.
nice video only thing missing is the correct amount of hate for the dlc especially day 1 dlc practice since rome2 ;)
Medieval II is the most badass game. I spent so much time on it. I even played it on my mac after the PC broke recently.
The Moops. 😂💀
Classic.
Great video
Thank you so much, Maesterful!
"Moops!? There are no 'moops! It's Moors. MOORS! It's a typo!" - Bubbleboy
great summary
Thank you very much!
Great video! I would love to see some sagas post Napoleon, e.g. Crimean war, Autro/Prussian war, and USA Civil War.
Thank you so much, Wayne! :D would love some truly awesome sagas too!
Great job
Thank you so much 😊
Ahhh this is where my love for total war comes from I was also born in 2000
Bridge taking already existed in Shogun 1, and each province had a specific map. Also the crusade and POW/ransom mechanics were introduced in Medieval 1, it didn't wait Med 2.
Thanks for the specifics! Are you sure about that first point though?
@@AndysTake Yes, for exemple the Kawachi, Mikawa, Musashi provinces were all river-crossing maps in Shogun 1, among others.
After fall of the samurai i thought for sure we was going to get Victoria total war 1820-1900.
ugh give me that lord of the rings baby. Just do it right. The LotR mod for medieval 2 was so damn juicy.
16:35 eh, I never had a use for the hotseat mechanic. For me Medieval 2 was great for its time for sure, but it's aged.
Instant diplomacy kind of makes sense in Empire total war since many countries had permanent diplomatic staff in other countries
The year 2000 was THE vibe
I really hope they cover the 30 years war.
The assassination videos of Shogun Total War are unsurpassed 😍
You are probably young and don't remember Knights of Honour that also has dual system - strategic map and a battle map.
8:11 Since April 2021, there is a Rome: Total War Remastered...
(edit)... as you have mentioned at the end of the video
Did you say the moops?😄 HaHaHa good one.
Unpopular opinion here but I prefer medieval 1 to medieval 2
the moops, nice Seinfeld reference
you know it ;)
Thanks for amazing job , subscribing :)
Thank you so much, Victor! :D
honestly it kinda weird no one else had tried to do the total war formula of overworld map and battle map atleast to a big degree.
im just saying, a total war medieval 3 would be the best move for the next game. civil disputes being squashed with full body plated armor infantry like war of the roses
Mount and Blade would be the only game i can think of that gives you the same (though not same size/scale) kind of combat.
Love this
Top total war game for me personally:
1. Medieval 2
2. Napoleon
3. Rome 2 (didn't pick it up until post launch fixes)
4. The immortal and mortal empires campaigns for Warhammer.
I've lost years of my life to this wonderful franchise 😅
Years well spent hopefully ;)
1. Medieval 2
2. Shogun 2
3. Rome 1
4. Empire/Napoleon
Wish there was an Open Source Total war based engine off the original shogun and medieval games.
Medieval total war 3 would be fantastic with multiplayer campaign, but I think it would really need some emphasis on diplomacy and family mechanics.
Rome 3, Medieval 3, Shogun 3 and Empire 2 are the games I am waiting for!
I find a new TW a tough sell at launch. They’re usually broken at launch, for a few months anyways.
But it isn’t that.
We have such a variety of theatres that they must find it hard keeping it fresh, I personally look at all my options and wonder why I’d ever need another🤷🏻♂️🛸
Moops? :D :D :D Nice reference
Thanks ;)
Imagine Star Wars Total War...
Well, but in star wars troops don't move in strict formations, they would have to make troops have a little more autonomy
Gotten back to Total War games after quite long break and gotta say i still prefer most the Rome TW (in this case the remastered) but Medieval 2 comes close 2nd :D Tho as little shout out to their other game not here, Spartan: Total Warrior. That game was so fun back in the day as well =D
Medieval 2 with updated diplomacy, and all the updated mechanics/graphics, plus naval battles = best game of all time
Would love that! Although I’m not a big fan of combat naval battles like in Rome 2, so I’d have to wait until I had some Carracks or Gallions with cannons ;)
What are your personal top 3 best total war games ? (Also what are the bottom 3 worst ?)
But right now I would say the best ones are,
Medieval 2(stainless steel 6.4 specifically), Attila and Fall of the Samurai. I won't rank warhammer bcoz I never played it. For me the worst total war games are -
Empire Total War(hate to say it as I love that time period), Total War Rome 2 and Thrones of Britannia.
@@aranighosh3945 yeah, Stainless Steel is just the best. I love playing Medieval 2, but it’s not fit for modern computers, the screen just slides so fast to the side when you move the mouse and such
@@AndysTake I still have my old PC from 2011 just to play Rome 1 and medieval 2 😂😂.
@@AndysTake yes I agree..the camera controls feel very clunky in modern pcs
Hahaha, I would love ME3 or Empire 2… but check out my latest video on the mod Total Conquest, it blew me away!
Imagine They sometime would make a futuristic total war game
Empire 2 followed by Medieval 3 followed by Shogun 3 followed by Rome 3 for me
I think it's a cool overview, but I have a totally reversed opinion of Medieval 2 & Empire.
How did you manage to spend more time on thrones of Britannia than warhammer 1 and 2 combined
Especially I wished for more campaigns in rome remastered
I honestly still play rome 1 and Shogun two but less so because it can run on anything the graphics are alright and the gameplay and everything is good
Hva skjedde med empire norge serien? Fant endelig noe total war med norge også er det bare en episode 😌
Mistet filen dessverre :(
Skjer alltid de som starter på det, de kan spille som sverige eller Danmark uten problem 😂
