Agreed and thanks for commenting. It's a rare sunny day today so I'm heading out with the GH7, Metabones Speedbooster, Canon EF70-200L IS 2.8 and 2x converter. See what I can get...
Thanks nick. You ve answered all my questions with this honest and straight forward review . I was quite confused after watching caleb hoovers AF desaster using the brillant 18-35. glad to have found your video.
Thanks for this video! I'm considering upgrading to the GH7 next year because the autofocus is so good. I have the Canon 70-200 so thanks for confirming the AF works well!
Did you notice any sagging on the lens mount from the weight of the 70-200 with the metabones? And random question, why not use the metabones with canon glass on the gh5 instead of getting rid of it?
Good questions. The 70-200 fit quite snuggly to the GH7 and GH5. No sagging (I must have got a good quality Metabones) and Canon glass was all I used 95% of the time on the GH5. In fact most of my UA-cam "in office" videos and training videos (atpmembers.com) were shot on the GH5 with Canon EF 16-35 L f2.8 and Speedbooster. The main reasons for getting rid of the GH5 and potentially getting the GH7 is PDAF (autofocus), 4k120, internal RAW (for stock video and some client shoots with harsh lighting) and 32bit float audio. However, I am waiting to see if the upcoming Panasonic S1H ii (or S2H) has all that as I already have the full frame S1H and S5iiX. GH5 is still an amazing camera though...
Really very timely for me as I'm upgrading from my GH5s to GH7 and love my 14-140mm "super zoom" on a gimbal, just never have had the option to use auto-focus reliably with that combo. Excellent video! One quibble, and I see many people unclear on this issue... the DOF of the speed-boosted lenses is EXACTLY the same as the lens used without a booster, using the booster concentrates the light of (in your example) f2.8 to the brightness of f2.0 but in no way changes the DOF characteristics.
Agreed re the depth of field but to me, it still looked stunning 👍👌. The main thing is that you retain the f2.8 bokeh quality rather than doubling it to f5.6 due to the 2x crop factor.
how is the autofocus in u video having the sony for comparison? Have you managed to try anything from other manufacturers of lenses for canon other than canon itself, I mean the tokina tamron and how reliable is the focus for shooting a group of people, weddings and the like and is this reliability close to that of sony?
I haven't tried other lenses but I don't think the GH7 (with Canon glass) would quite match the native Sony (or Canon) cameras/lenses. Also, I wouldn't necessarily trust the Panasonic GH7 and Canon glass to focus on the nearest person in a group such as a wedding. The new Canon R1 looks to be "boss" for this and Panasonic's AF isn't quite there yet. Filming weddings, for example, with any camera will always, in my opinion, need due diligence, planning and full concentration from the operator. For me and Panasonic cameras, just having decent, fast and accurate, but not perfect (yet), AF on the superb GH7, S5iiX and (hopefully soon to arrive) S1H II is increasing my loyalty to Panny.
GH7 is a beast and MFT from panasonic is so underrated. Thanks for the vid.

No problem Shane and have fun with the GH7. You'll love it! 👍

Hi, by any chance have you also had the opportunity to check the AF on the 100-400 II?
Sadly not...sorry.
@@NickStubbs Thanks for the reply, but do you think it could work?
To be honest, I think it would. The lens, no doubt, has a similar focusing mechanism to my aging 70-200 Mk 1 and it is newer also.
