That is most definitely a rant-worthy predicament. I think the worst thing I’ve come across are duplicate paragraphs or sentences in articles my kids and I read for school. I’m glad you enjoyed the story, despite the physical challenges.
Mistakes (duplicate content or other) in a child's studies may confuse them and affect their grades. That's unfortunate to hear - hopefully it's rare. I definitely enjoyed the book, and getting the eBook to complete the story was worth it :)
In the old days something similar happened to me with a biography of Thomas Hardy (the one by his widow though doubts have been raised about her authorship). I wrote to the publisher - the book was out of print by then - and ultimately received from them a photocopy of the missing pages. I’m sure I knew I couldn’t get a better copy of the book, or “restitution,” so that was probably what I asked for, and they kindly honored that request. I was so happy!
Hi Fred! I am so sorry this happened to you :( How Frustrating! I have heard raves about this book - So looking forward to hearing your take. Hoping you are enjoying the Fall Season!
For a moment, I feared the punchline would be that the digital version had issues too! Still, I'm glad you're enjoying the book despite the inconvenience. I'll have to look this one up. By the way, I've never bought a printed book with an error quite like this, but I did once receive one with a section incorporated upside down.
Oh, that would have been terrible if that were the case. I've seen one book where the pages were upside down too, but that was at a used book store and I didn't pick it up :p
That is so disappointing! I received a book (I think 10 years ago) that was missing a few pages and I contacted the publisher about the issue. They then send me a new one for free! That was lovely. I really enjoyed the book Why Fish Don't Exist
I think if this happened to me, I would initially be shocked immediately followed by laughter. Too funny! I do like how your rant voice is in the same decibel as your everyday speaking voice- Cool. 😊
Yes and more than once. Don’t remember the titles but sure remember wondering what happened. I have also experienced the book signatures being out of order.
I’m glad it’s not about the quality or content of the book, as I found this book fascinating. Someone out out there doesn’t want you knowing the full history of Eugenics in the US! You may want to follow this up with Who Killed Jane Stanford? if that part intrigued you. It’s a bit on the dry side, but methodically looks at the possibilities of her demise and tells a lot about the founding of Stanford University and her last years.
I really enjoyed the book and will be doing a review of it later on. I'm glad I bought the eBook or I would have missed what happened to Mrs. Stanford.
Your reaction at 1:55 and the deep breath 😂. I'm sorry you had to buy the full price ebook, ugh lol. I received a book once where everything was printed upside down, but all the pages were there, so I guess I can't really complain! Again, such a bummer about the book, but your video did make me laugh. "David Starr Jordan is a jerk" 😆
Hah, yup - deep breath :) When I originally picked up this book, I didn't know who Mr. Jordan was outside of what I read for the book synopsis. Now that I know, yup, he's a jerk :p
I think I had that happen to me once or twice, but it was always with an ARC and the publishers were happy to replace it (probably because they weren't going to get my review if they didn't!)
Yikes! I've seen people run into this, but haven't yet had it happen to me. At least it wasn't a rant about the actual writing, but that must have been so annoying to buy twice anyway.
It was annoying to pay full eBook price, but it is nice to have the book in digital format. I'm glad to hear it's not happened to you, hopefully this is a very rare occurrence.
Oh no! Isn't it frustrating? You get really into a book - and then a chapter is missing! Hopefully you'll be able to read the missing chapter another way.

It's too bad that happened in the first place, but I'm glad the outcome was positive. :)
Hi Fred! I am so sorry this happened to you :( How Frustrating! I have heard raves about this book - So looking forward to hearing your take. Hoping you are enjoying the Fall Season!
I am enjoying the fall season, thank you :) Yup, the book was really good - I'm glad I bought the complete ebook version :)
Good one, Fred 🎉 Thanks for appearing upon our "Open Mic" night, last Monday 😅
It was a fun time Allen :)

I can't believe that! That is so frustrating! 😠 I have fortunately never come across this issue!
Hope the missing chapters are worth it! 🤞🏻
Thank goodness. I'm hoping I'm in the small minority of people this has happened to. The missing chapters were totally worth it :)
That is so disappointing! I received a book (I think 10 years ago) that was missing a few pages and I contacted the publisher about the issue. They then send me a new one for free! That was lovely. I really enjoyed the book Why Fish Don't Exist
Hmm, I might do the same then. Thanks :)

Thanks! I guess my voice is consistent :)
Yes and more than once. Don’t remember the titles but sure remember wondering what happened. I have also experienced the book signatures being out of order.
Oh no! I can definitely share in your frustration.
Oh, how maddening! I think you made the right choice to seek out the rest of the book, though.
I enjoyed the book and was happy to have read all of it :)
I’m glad it’s not about the quality or content of the book, as I found this book fascinating. Someone out out there doesn’t want you knowing the full history of Eugenics in the US!

Yes, I bought The Portable Chekhov from a discount website and discovered that it was the portable Voltaire and incomplete. 😂
Oh wow, that's terrible. Hopefully you were able to get The Portable Chekhov.
I think I had that happen to me once or twice, but it was always with an ARC and the publishers were happy to replace it (probably because they weren't going to get my review if they didn't!)
That's good to hear Melinda. I've never contacted a publisher before - I might and ask for an updated copy.
Same thing happened to me when I tried reading Jane Austen for the first time. The edition looked beautiful but it was badly misprinted.
It's so disappointing. Luckily for me I was able to purchase the eBook and continue on instantly.
Yikes! I've seen people run into this, but haven't yet had it happen to me. At least it wasn't a rant about the actual writing, but that must have been so annoying to buy twice anyway.

That happened to me once... with a book that I got from a library sale 😅
Isn't it frustrating? I was so engaged with the book, then hit with missing chapters. Oh well :p
@ReadbyFred totally! In my copy the missing chapters were at the end of the book... so that was a bummer 🤣
@@krisreviews - ouch!
How strange! I've never seen that before!
It's nuts, I've never had this happen before either. :(
Oh Nooooooo!
Lol, that's exactly what I said :)
Oh no! Eek! Maybe someone else out there has duplicates of 6-9 and missing 11-13! Swapsies!
Lol, could you imagine that? That would be funny :)
My chapter missing to!
Oh no! Isn't it frustrating? You get really into a book - and then a chapter is missing! Hopefully you'll be able to read the missing chapter another way.
I would contact the publisher.
Thanks Michael. Hannah said the same thing and was able to get a copy, so I'll likely follow up with the publisher.
This deserves a rant! How irritating!
Yup, when I got to the end of the chapter and turned the page and noted that this wasn't right I was taken aback :p
