Although I'm in the UK, I shall try to find this book, Fred, it sounds inspirational and a bright point in dark days. I think we need uplifting books at this time, and it fits into Q4. Thanks for bringing this book to my attention.
This is an amazing book - I highly recommend it. With so much going on in the world, we certainly do need uplifting books. We need more Katherine Johnson's in our world.
Katherine Johnson was mentioned in a book I just finished reading - The Secret Lives of Numbers - which discussed trailblazers and lesser-known individuals in the field of math throughout history. I might need to follow up by reading this book! Great review.
I cannot imagine the adversity she faced. So many people give up because of adversity - because people bring them down to a point where they stop believing in themselves, and that's sad. When I read this book I thought about all those people and how Katherine was so lucky to have not stopped believing, and how mankind is further ahead because of people like her who persevered.
me and math were never buddies. I can play with numbers sometimes with interest in whatever book I might be reading but I got a D minus in high school algebra.
Wonderful review, Fred. I love that quote from her dad at the end. It’s so true. I’ll definitely pick this one up at some point 👍
Thanks Farrah. This was such an inspirational read - I consider myself fortunate for learning about this remarkable woman.
I've borrowed the audiobook from my library and plan to include it in my #NonfictionNovember reads. It's the perfect length for an upcoming trip!
You will enjoy the book! What she was able to achieve, in spite of the adversity, is inspiring :)
Hi Fred 🌝
I will check this book out, for sure. What an excellent book and author video spotlight💫
I loved the movie Hidden Figures [2017].
This was an amazing read. Such an inspirational woman.

Reaching for the Moon was such a great read. I looked up _The Secret Lives of Numbers_ - I'm going to pick it up when it goes on sale :)
I've read a fair number of autobiographies, biographies, and memoirs. I don't think I've read one as inspirational as the book you describe here

@@ReadbyFred She had impressive strength to keep going in the face of such resistance

Yeah, a lot of people don't do well in math. Luckily Katherine did and her contribution helped mankind get a man on the moon :)
