- Hey knuckleheads. This is the first part of my short series of building a music studio for my buddy, @MrBillsTunes
I'm going to go in as much depth as I recorded from start to finish, renovating an addition on his new house here, in beautiful sunny Georgia. Some of these vids will have accompanying tutorials, so feel free to ask me any questions you might have about the building process in the comments.
Cheers!

This is so awesome man! Great to see you and Mr Bill working together
Edit: Pt.2 has been released, which covers framing the walls and drywalling the room. There’s a Pt.3 in the works as well.
Viewer warning: none of the actual studio is included in this video (misleading thumbnail); just ripping up a deck and framing a room. It looks like it was meant to be a series, but only the 1st part came out.
Working on it. Got sidetracked by getting sober. Fuck me right?
@@GARDNSOUNDcongratulations on your sobriety! I look forward to watching pt.2 when you’re able to put it out!
Great video - super informative and I love the Wii music
This is so interesting to see!! Really excited for the rest of the series
Square head screws? In Georgia? I didn't realize anyone that far south even knew Robertsons existed.
I'm a beginning carpenter and a producer so I love seeing stuff like this!
So cool to see the building process of this from start to finish!!
been looking forward to this series. nice work dude
Awesome video man!! Thanks again for the opportunity to work on this with you!! 🙏🏼
Waiting for more videos .Love your work
Really enjoyed this video. This is like a dream project I hope to accomplish someday and its really awesome to be able to watch the process from start to finish.
Idk what it is, but your videos are extremely therapeutic, and I really appreciate it :)
🎉Awesome work dude! Can’t wait to see it finished!
Excited for this process. Thanks for the videos. Curious!!! :)
You are so welcome! I'm a big fan of your music!
@@GARDNSOUND Making me blush!!! Let me know where I gotta ring a bell when I'm in town next and we can snack on veggies and chat!
I'm in Decatur; but I'd be down to meet up anywhere in Atlanta :)
Hell yea man! I bump the Eradicate Mankind EP at least once a week.
thank you for uploading !
Will be waiting to see the whole process 🎉
Shout out to chalk lines. The OG of straight lines. I used them a lot when I was a precast concrete laborer, my first job out of high school. Love the video, Gardner.
Yo! Thanks for watching, man.
We got some square head in redwood. It could be the wood too. Also the roof preserves. Some Georgia hard wood...
whatever it was those things were STUCK!
Ive been waiting for this ever since you talked about it on the discord server! Great job man!
I've been hearing about this project forever, so cool to see bits of it getting made! Also, to answer 9:30, I always assume you're only wearing one layer of clothing at all time. For efficiency.
Thank you for making this video this is sick!
I dunno, we recently did a floor with just a single layer of ply sub flooring instead of OSB, and it felt like jumping on a slab after it was glued and screwed. Is the skirt on the room gonna be closed up? I didn’t see a moisture barrier go down, so I assume it’s not. I feel like OSB isn’t the move here if it’s left open. Plus you’ll have squirrels stealing all your rock wool for their nests in the winter! 😂
In addition to the skirt (lattice + chickenwire); we added weed barrier underneath the insulation to prevent it from falling after a few freeze / thaw cycles.
Yea, this floor feels incredibly solid; and it's very important for bass response that the floor be as sturdy as possible.
Hah, good. I was wondering how did you suspend the floor insulation.
@@GARDNSOUND Ya, I would def consider upgrading to something a bit more solid w/ metal vents for the skirt. I've got squirrels in my attic spaces here, and i have NO idea how they still find their way to my insulation with how well it's sealed off. Those little buggers chew through anything!
@@PaulEubanks Nah just scare the lil guys away with some sick bass 🤘
@@ben_burnes Who knew squirrels were terrified of glitchy Seinfeld bass lines?
amazing
Part two? 👉👈
quite small, how are you gonna get the low frequencies to sound good in such a small space?
It's one of the larger rooms I've built, tbh. Very large bass traps at the rear of the room, plus Kii audio's rear firing drivers make it such that the amount of bass response can be loaded or subtracted by moving them closer or further away from the front wall.
@@GARDNSOUND ahhh gotcha, fair enough
@@poixone Yeah, it's literally all a matter of density. A small studio is no problem, so long as the speakers in it make sense (which I think they do) & you have like 16 (or ideally a bit more) inches of absorptive materials on your rear wall (which we do). Definitely one of the better sounding rooms I've ever been in (and I've been in some really nice rooms).
@@MrBillsTunes makes sense! i guess then, the smaller the room the more absorption it needs for low end to come through nicely
Part 2?
At some point lol
@@GARDNSOUND surely
i know you're wearing a banana hammock under that suit
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
wwow this studio is in the jungle isn't it?
lol Georgia be like that
Looks like a certain studio is on full display:

But why? You should've just removed the screws from the old floor first...
They literally wouldn't unscrew - that was the issue. No way to remove them as far as I could see.
short? this video was super long bro
