I commented before I saw the end - I often find that my designs that I really don't like much are the ones that sell and that other people love! I think it's gorgeous, but understand the frustration of having something turn out in a way that wasn't my original vision for it. I love that you posted the video anyway, despite being disappointed.
Nice and useful piece. Would be cool if you do another one adding 2 little bolws more. One for crema, another one for pickles and the other one for guacamole!! :D the ultimate bowl for NACHOS!! xD
What are you talking about! It's so beautiful, and well made!! I just started pottery class, and your videos are great help! Thanks alot! Will you please make more videos about glazing and the colors you're using. Thank you!
It looks like you were using the b clay from continental clay. I use it and often it's finicky like porcelain. I have to be careful not to bump or manipulate it too much after coming off the wheel or it warps in the kiln. That said, thanks so much for sharing. I don't think people realize how complicated and unforgiving the process can be. Many potters have surprise failures in about every kiln, especially me!
Why wait? Try it now. Then you have longer to enjoy it being a part of your life. I started when I was 36 and I'm currently teaching my youngest son, (9yo) the basics now. It's worth it and it's fun and it's a good way to ground yourself. Start as soon as you can. ❤❤❤
@@shelleyfrank6909 YES I want to start as soon as I get out of high school!! right now I am taking a ceramics class and that has inspired me as well!! ive always been interested in art but never knew what I wanted to do, and I think pottery is perfect! thank you so much for the reply also!
I hope tostitos sponsors you one day because you made me want to get them in the supermarket today. Also, I liked the "slumpy" shape of the salsa bowl.
Add some wiry root-like support legs (lattice work) under the small bowl next time; go more abstract shape on the dip-bowl. Beautiful work....thanks for sharing.
your videos are incredible!! i see a lot of nit picking in the comments (some positive) but just wanted to leave a comment of encouragement!!!! You are so talented!
my two take aways......I am relieved that clay column came off after the bisque firing and your salsa to chip ratio is a bit extreme HAHA Did the salsa bowl warp or did you bait and switch us? Thanks for sharing.
In case Jon doesn't have time to reply, I will tell you where I am located electric rates being what they are, I figured it out it cost me about $15 to fire my kiln, roughly. At least that is what I told my wife.... ;)
Do you think it would have deformed if you had cut a notch for the smaller bowl, then scored and slipped them together? The reason I ask is because I was planning on doing something similar, but figure I would have more success if I cut a notch for the smaller bowl, opposed to just forming the larger bowl around it.
I personally love your finished project, Jon! That piece clearly took a lot of work and came out different and more unique than anyone would have expected. I love how the smaller bowl slumped…it’s clearly hand thrown and any pottery would be like, “how the hell did you get it to fold and angle like that so perfectly?” It’s perfect for catching the salsa on the chip while scooping, I hate when I can’t catch my salsa lol. Don’t be frustrated…be proud of your uniquely crazy different piece :)
If the block of clay dries out a little, can the clay still be used? If a piece already turned (for example) and dried for a day were to fall down, is that clay still usuable?
If you take the clay piece, that held up the bowl on the inside, and pushed it in under the bowl near the edge for support I think the top bowl would not have sagged. Also please no more videos without comments! Thx
I'm still slightly angry that the only High School art class I was unable to get into (due to how quick it filled up) was pottery. I also never knew that I needed one of these until now. I know pottery is quite common, but do/did you ever sell your wares at the MN Renaissance Festival? I never knew you were based in Minnesota until looking at your description here #MadeInMN love :)
my ceramics classes happened four times a week and then quarantine took them away. this makes me miss it so much
i have and idea to help with the glaze dripping on the floor a water heater drain pan would be perfect to catch the mess

I loved the glaze technique! The final product looked incredible!
I like it, it still functions as you intended it to. You could always put the dip bowl elevated up in the middle and it might not slump that way.
The sound of you crunching chips at the end made our german shepherd dog start barking! LOL
Great video, love seeing the whole process.
Now THATS a satisfying ending. It is gorgeous. Thank you for showing us your diverse skills. Very enjoyable to watch.

UGH YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME TO DO POTTERY WHEN I GET OLDER!!

@@hanna3284 you can take pottery classes outside of school too.
So therapeutic to watch! 😉 Thank you so much for your tutorials.
Love this! So peaceful to watch! Can't wait to try it myself one day!
Love your work John!
You inspire me to keep at my pottery and try different things.
Your videos have help me so much!

Why were you slightly disappointed? It looks awesome! I am going to try and make one in my pottery class - your pottery is so inspirational!
Another great video, I really enjoyed it. Love the idea of a Nacho bowl with salsa.🥰
This turned out really great! Love watching the process! And then seeing it used too, lol :)
So, are you going to make these for sale? I would definitely buy one for snacking purposes.
so relaxing to see

I just watched the hand warmer mug part 2. In the process of making them.
Got the book in the mail yesterday so excited to read it!
My 9 yr old son loves watching your videos. He asked me to post a comment, asking you to make a “step by step” video about what you are doing,
bonitisima tu pieza,la verdad una innovacion, felicitaciones saludos desde URUGUAY

What type of paint do you use to paint pottery?
I’m a beginner and will be doing pottery soon.
@Danielle Feldman Thank you
I really want chips now🤣

That’s so rad!
Hey Jon,
How much electricity does your kiln consume?
In case Jon doesn't have time to reply, I will tell you where I am located electric rates being what they are, I figured it out it cost me about $15 to fire my kiln, roughly. At least that is what I told my wife.... ;)
Looking forward to your shop update on etsy!

Hey Jon! I'm also a potter and have question. Why you wait a day for the second glazing and not make it right after the first one?
I want to purchase a small / medium sized kiln, but was wondering if it makes the electric bill each month crazy? Guess it depends how often its used.
A perfectly balanced slump
Cool bowl. Quick Q, dude. Where did you find those cool colourful shorts (around 11 minute mark)?
Can you reuse the clay from the trimmings? And the clay you scraped off of the bat?
Hey Jon great vid on the next one attach the small bowl on the side of the big one or on the inside 🙂
And one else yelling, “you missed a triangle” on the first glaze application?
I came for the pottery, ASMR turned up my anxiety, so the volume got turned down. Love the dish though.
you are adorable. your videos are incredible. and your work is remarkable.
Wow! Looks amazing!
you see a jtp vid and u know u gotta watch
You’re literally a prof👌🏽

Can you share the recipes for the glazes you use?🤗
I like the glaze!
Why do you pull the clay up after you center it? Curious!
where can I buy your products? Etsy has no listings of yours. don't you have a website?
Omg Jon ILY ur videos are amazing
Love this video
How many hrs do you let the clay dry?
Can you do a teaching series?
i miss him talking in these and explaining what he’s doing 🥺😢
it takes at least double effort to make a video really
@@MoeinPotter you’re right it does i just miss it but these videos are still good❤️

yes, you need to add water and then wait for it to settle and when it's in the right consistency again you need to wedge it
If you cabinet space is as congested as mine, it takes up too much space. Better 2 separate bowls.
What are those square pieces of wood?
What is the small disk that you use when trimming?
I live that , its awesome!!!
Hi! Which model wheel do you own?
Gorgeous bowl yummy salsa.
I like the shape of the bows though
I thought you were gonna make the chips and dip out of clay too
Het dont you glaze the middelpart of the bottem?
If you take the clay piece, that held up the bowl on the inside, and pushed it in under the bowl near the edge for support I think the top bowl would not have sagged. Also please no more videos without comments! Thx
Hell ya !!!!!

I actually liked the slumped dip bowl, to each their own 🤷🏼♀️😁

Is everything ok Jon? You weren't yourself, to quiet.
What's ASMR
I loved the video until the eating. I don't know what's wrong with me, but chewing drives me crazy.
Beautiful work as always and great content!
Why do you look like Bradley Cooper???
thank you for that wonderful video. and congratulation for a democratic voting in Minnesota from Berlin in Germany

This bowl deserved something organic and natural food.. not this junk with presetvatives..
I can do without the chewing and crunching noises
