how are their chatter marks with an expandable drum? curious how the wall outlet gives you enough power, i can't make sense of it

Chatter mark tends to be minimal with an expandable drum since there is no gap in the paper. As for running on a 120 volt circuit, this machine has a 1 1/2 hp motor that provides plenty of power. It will not cut as aggressively as 4 to 6.5 hp machines that run on a 240 volt circuit, but has been getting the job done for decades. This machine is ideal for the DIY homeowner and for the professional to use on smaller jobs or when access to a 240 volt circuit is not available.

The belt doesn't come off (or is slightly too small in diameter). I just bought it used (11.1 amps) and seems to work good. What is the belt size? Thanks.

Hello Robert. I'm not sure if you're asking about the sand paper belt of the drive belt. For sand paper belts, this machine uses either clamp-on drums or expandable drums. It sounds like you have the more common expandable drum, which you can confirm if there is not a gap in the sand paper where it folds into the drum clamp. For the expandable drum, the sand paper size is 8" x 19" specified for expandable drums.
You can download and an operator's manual and a technical sheet on the EZ-8 from our website here: americansanders.com/2016/04/ez-8-drum-sander/

Replace sand paper when you notice wear and or uneven sanding.

Pretty much anytime I lower the drum to the floor it makes a mark even when I’m in motion. And I never leave it down when I’m stopped. Still makes marks. A little tricky to use.
We did the big parts of our hardwood with the drum sander using 36 and 80, then picked up the rectangular orbital sander to smooth it out with 120. It helped remove the drum marks. Still tough.
Would recommend an easier to use sander if you’re not experienced.

I just inherited this sander and heard great things about it. I have one problem and appreciate any help you can give. I am noticing when the drum is in contact with the floor and moving forward, there is a large trail of dust. There is not a dust trail when moving backward. Also, to adjust the level, do you need to turn the bolt while holding the nut, or just turn the bolt. Thank you for any help you can provide!

Regarding how to level the drum, your best option is to refer to the operators manual. The manual is available to download for free from the EZ-8 product page on americansanders.com. Here's a link: americansanders.com/2016/04/ez-8-drum-sander/
As for the dust trail, that is hard to comment on. You will need to make sure the vacuum tube is clear of obstruction, as well as the vacuum hose if you are using a vacuum unit. If using a dust bag you will not want the bag to get more than 1/2 to 2/3 full. A dust bag that is too full will affect the dust collection ability of the machine. And enjoy your new machine!

#1 reason is that your bag is full. You also could be obstructed in some other way, like if you hit a staple and ripped a sheet of paper into the vacuum. If neither are the case, make sure everything underneath is tight under your machine in case you've been too rough with it lately

Do not scrape the nails, it will chip your blade. Set the nails, then scrape. Fill nail holes with wood filler.
