It's really good to hear you know about our Toyota Bandeirante. This truck is a trail beast down here in Brazil, people doing all sorts of mods to get it as updated as possible, but still hugely trail capable. I just love it and that's why I got to know about Icon.
Brazilian here, what you did with the truck is super cool congrats. I have a 1988 bandeirante fj40, hard top, two doors the legend kkkk I think is to rough for a daily city car but I love it to death, the thing is basically a tank super badass. Its the poor man’s G wagen
I have a 1966 fj45 truck that I bought in 1972. I bought a brand new chev 327 still in the factory box for it and made the conversion years ago it has unreal power. One of the all time best four wheel drive vehicles ever!!! Made tough so you don't have to worry about taking it anywhere and I pretty much have!!! Seldom see any around anymore rare animal.
I adore this car actually it was a family legacy,, I learn to drive when I was 16 in this truck landcruiser is my passion and It was my father's passion too I love it and what you did to the car is out standing thank you for taking such a good care of my favorite car
I miss my old FJs. I met Earl Warden after he “retired” and moved to Montana. He helped me build my last one. More of a rock crawler/hunting rig than a super nice restoration but it was fantastic.
Bro i saw one here in India. Instead of the black removable cover, there was a body coloured canopy at the end. There was another row of seats and a lot of space behind the last row. There was a big fridge and a tiny sound free Honda diesel generator. Whenever the second battery wears out you can use the generator to charge it quickly along with using the electric stove through the generator while 2nd battery is charging. It also had india spec landcruiser engine with a 4500 cc diesel with 261 bhp. I guess the tuned the engine for extra horses and great sound.. It costed him around 30 thousand US dollars.
We had crew cab fj's in australia in the 70's. They were used by the PMG to run phone lines in the bush. I've also seen some that were used by the volunteer bush fire brigades of that era too.
THAT TRUCK LOOK SO GOOD.If they did a retro release with that I would imagine it would be a big seller. As usual Jonathan anything you touch turns to gold brilliant
I remember Jay showing me the tan model in the showroom while my 40 was getting worked on. Fell in love right then and there. The kids were in playpens in the corner. Great memories.
Hello Jonathan ... I really appreciate your work. I live in São Paulo / Capital, near São Bernardo do Campo and I hereby inform that here in Brazil this TOYOTA is called TOYOTA BANDEIRANTE and has used the Mercedes-Benz diesel engine for many years. Strong embrace here of the Capital of São Paulo.
Sir, I know I'm not the only one dying for more of your stories. When if ever are you going back on to Joe Rogan's podcast? The story about you going whole hog and starting your company has given me the drive to move into a tiny home with my wife and baby. I basically learned from you that I shouldn't hang around waiting for anyone else's approval to follow my dream. I will follow your lead and charge forth into what is considered the unknown with my family. thank you for your great products and videos. Please keep on kicking ass, I can't wait until I can afford to send you a project. Gabriel McD, US Army.
You and your company are to be complimented : the talent pool is deep and rich. I've wanted an FJ45 ever since I saw one. Could I afford the one that I want/like ? Not with 3 daughters in the U.C. system. The money flow is amazing ! But the young ladies are very aware of their blessings and are working very hard to demonstrate this. It's their turn to shine ; my turn to appreciate 45's from afar.
“Mr. Toyota got wind I had a huge chubby…” may indeed be the funniest, most enjoyable quote I have heard this year, for sure, probably these past five years!!! I am still having trouble breathing and my abs feel as though I’ve been working out!!! 😆😂🤣😂🤣😂😭😝
Was that an Audio Control EQX crossover and EQ beside those amps? I haven't seen one of those in years. As for the head unit, a six disc in dash head unit was amazing back in the day. Now some OEMs, such as Jeep, have a CD player as an extra fee item installed in the glove box. If I remember Nakamichi was a supplier for Toyota a few decades ago, perfect match for this build. I can only guess, are the amps are Pioneer? Old school throw back. I love it. Don't let fail to mention the coolness of this "ghost truck". A true collector piece for the serious Toyota follower or for the individual who likes rare pieces. The fact that Jonathan Ward owned it just adds more gravy. Great job.
What a beauty of a truck. I have the FJ40 and I would like to put it that way even though mine is very original and worthy of a restoration. but I would love to transform it. It would be my happiness to work in the construction of vehicles of that style.
Called Bandeirante, built in Brazil. Came from the factory with a variety of Mercedes-Benz engines, especially the OM314 from Unimog (pron ooh neeh mogg)
oooooh man, i used to drive a bandeirante very similar to that every day on my work. we used it to pick up big copy machines and bring it back for maintenance.
What the hell is Toyota thinking with their new B.S 4 wheel drive...??? Hey and really I love my FJ Cruiser... The one that you've constructed here is sensational.
Much respect for the care and love given. The problem is, it's easier to take a loan out on a modern car where as it' impossible to justify a loan on a your vehicle.
absolute favorite vehicle of all time, gotta get another one. I musta missed the part where you said the price for this beast... how much did you sell it for? great job, thanks for sharing.
Ever think about doing one of your special FJ44’s in truck configuration with a separate bed? 🤔 This is my favorite form factor for these vehicles, they are so hard to find!
1:27 It's funny that Mr Toyota didn't understand the appeal of older cars. I used to work for a guy that sold antique radios/jukeboxes and vintage high end audio recording equipment and almost half the sales would go to Japan. Rich people in Japan have an obsessive love for pre 70's American technology. They love it and pay top dollar for it. They seem to love "old America" more than we do. A lot of our vintage clothing and art ends up in the hands of the rich Japanese. I don't think Mr Toyota was surprised, he just wanted intel.
Superb!!!, this model needs to be limited built along with the BJ40 shorty......toughest bastard cruizer ever made!!! diesel re powered with your vortex donk, lovely!
Props to you for not running ads, Jonathan. And even though I would watch them because I really enjoy your content and understand the work that goes into producing it, I respect your conscious decision to not have them, for obvious reasons. But let's get down to bras tacks here... is there an adapter available to couple one of your steering wheels to my 1991 Nissan Pathfinder? GM spline to NIssan spline doesn't seem to be a common thing, as far as I've found. Cheers from Chicago!
Another great example of the type of build (from your company) that ought to be re-captured and sold by toyota. A lot of builds today have too much bling which over-shadows function and outdoor capacity. The canvas topper on the back is not ideal for canadian weather extremes but it's a nice design.
Mr ward, you hinted on the fj cruiser and being involved in it's design...I've owned 2, they're great vehicles, but any idea what happened? Fj40 fans would hope that a remake would be closer to the original soldi axle design, similar to what Jeep is doing. The fj cruiser is a durable, well performing rig..but many of us just didn't care for the look.
my dream on the external appearance of the body. except for the interior and bumper n engine which is americanized. still prefer if it was that body format but retained being japanese
It's really good to hear you know about our Toyota Bandeirante. This truck is a trail beast down here in Brazil, people doing all sorts of mods to get it as updated as possible, but still hugely trail capable. I just love it and that's why I got to know about Icon.
A man I work for has 3 of these, those curved windows on the pillars are so awesome!
Brazilian here, what you did with the truck is super cool congrats. I have a 1988 bandeirante fj40, hard top, two doors the legend kkkk I think is to rough for a daily city car but I love it to death, the thing is basically a tank super badass. Its the poor man’s G wagen

"This truck's super cool."
That's a bit of an understatement.
Yeah I'd say.
I adore this car actually it was a family legacy,, I learn to drive when I was 16 in this truck landcruiser is my passion and It was my father's passion too

That's my dream vehicle! Absolutely love that thing!
me 2
My heart always loves cruisers...I love this machines badly

Hot damn
Those 70s are flimsy by comparison. These old FJ45 had the heavy duty Dyna gearbox and a heavy duty front diff, not Hilux running gear of the 70.
THAT TRUCK LOOK SO GOOD.If they did a retro release with that I would imagine it would be a big seller. As usual Jonathan anything you touch turns to gold brilliant
Just saw one of the four in the Land Cruiser museum in Salt Lake. It felt like seeing a celebrity at the airport. Very cool.
You are an excellent salesman .... I so wanted to buy it but am so lucky its sold!! :-)
Damn Jonathan. You have to be one of the most interesting people out there. Fantastic story telling.
The BMW seats are super cherry, some of the best I’ve ever seen in a resto mod, If I ordered a resto mod they would be a very good option
Another awesome Cruiser! I've seen FJ40s and FJ55s, FJ60s, and FJ62s, but I've never seen an FJ45 crew cab pickup truck. Sweet! :)
Thanks for sharing this very nice truck.
I remember Jay showing me the tan model in the showroom while my 40 was getting worked on. Fell in love right then and there. The kids were in playpens in the corner. Great memories.
Beautiful looking machine
Nice truck.. It's a dream.. 👍🏻👍🏻

Revisiting. Gorgeous still.

Saw a number of these still kicking around in Kenya! But they are starting to get rare!
Love to see a video of you designing the fj cruiser . I have one and love it 😍. Will never relinquish it .
I really love your shows
The story was great! I could've listened to the full version.
Here is strength, durability and solidity And the originals👍
I've seen pictures, and wondered why we never saw very many, when the FJ40's were sooooo popular.
AWESOME truck ! ! !

Really cool
what a lovable truck
Wow very nice ...good also for mission trips..
A guy a couple blocks from me has one in his driveway. Looks to be in relatively good shape too. Makes me drool every time I drive by…
I want this truck 😮
What a beauty of a truck. I have the FJ40 and I would like to put it that way even though mine is very original and worthy of a restoration. but I would love to transform it. It would be my happiness to work in the construction of vehicles of that style.

Dear lord that is gorgeous.
oooooh man, i used to drive a bandeirante very similar to that every day on my work.
we used it to pick up big copy machines and bring it back for maintenance.
So sad Toyota doesn't give you credit for the design/build of the FJ Cruiser, I love mine . You guys are so talented . Cheers
Cu'z some mortal came with a better ideas
That's because The Toyota Design team in Newport Beach did. However Icon/ TLC do beautiful recreations and restoration jobs.
can you make more back story videos? this is an awesome truck with a great story.
This IA fantastic kit
I am a fan of your J44, and I love this truck design as well do you, do you have any interest in selling these in the TLC or ICON name .
that's super cool truck
Very nice, John
You guys,
You got the talent!!!!
O sistema é bruto top show hein
These are quite common in South America. You see them everywhere in Colombia and Venezuela.
The is the same things I love to build from hj47 from a ute and troopy on a 75 series with a 12HT motor
a very nice truck
You need more "Story time with Mr Ward (or Mr Jonathan)" !!
Good thing Brazil keep produce FJ 40 series till around 2000...
What the hell is Toyota thinking with their new B.S 4 wheel drive...??? Hey and really I love my FJ Cruiser... The one that you've constructed here is sensational.
Whaaat, you came to my home country, by the way São Bernado dos Campo is 40 miles from my hometown
Much respect for the care and love given. The problem is, it's easier to take a loan out on a modern car where as it' impossible to justify a loan on a your vehicle.
BAD ASS!!!! Truly unique
Seria un privilegio ver una algún día y poder conducirla😊
I almost bought one from Specter Off Road in Chatsworth back in 2001. Only difference was it had an aluminum tray on the back.
friends dad had a crew cab FJ with turboed 6 cylinder toyota diesel
absolute favorite vehicle of all time, gotta get another one. I musta missed the part where you said the price for this beast... how much did you sell it for? great job, thanks for sharing.
If I had any I would say "Take my money!!!"
São todas do Brasil kkkk Show!!!
Ever think about doing one of your special FJ44’s in truck configuration with a separate bed? 🤔 This is my favorite form factor for these vehicles, they are so hard to find!
Nice car
We still got 2018 LC pickup here in Middle east .. in single an crew cab
Go to africa I was in the Sudan for 3 months and the UN must have 100's we used one as our work truck wish I had brought it home,
Not of this particular kind. Only a few were made. They would have been the troop carrier version.
that's really cool.
Hey Jonathan, when can you upload FJ62 restoration stuff?
Arrrgh ! 'Just saw the "longboard" bumper sticker ! Cool factor + 20 pts.
What a beautiful truck. Thanks for sharing. Just a curious question- (being a die hard Toyota guy myself) why not a Tundra motor?
The perfect truck!

Does TLC stand for Toyota Land Cruiser ?
Great looking truck. Always enjoy your videos but what the heck did you do to your finger? looks like the old duct tape bandage trick that I use lol.

I absolutely love and admire your work. Just one question: Why you don't use Toyota engines??
Wow!
Jonathan any word on the icon watch, prototypes, designs, costs, thoughts ideas?
Hi Jonathan Have 5 of them in oz
Oz, NZ, Europe, you turds don't count. Fuck off!
R they in ur hands i would love one whats the price
this is by far my favorite icon next to the d200.
what's your opinion on the modern fj cruiser and why it did why it did commercially in the US.
Mr ward, you hinted on the fj cruiser and being involved in it's design...I've owned 2, they're great vehicles, but any idea what happened? Fj40 fans would hope that a remake would be closer to the original soldi axle design, similar to what Jeep is doing.

Was there anyone fighting for a more classic design? Or was something like a modern fj40 never on the table for them?
