1950's Vintage Ice Crusher Restoration

  • In this video I restore a vintage ice crushing machine from the 1950s.
After dismantling I start by sandblasting the corrosion with 70 grit black aluminum oxide. I then file down any imperfections and repair a crack with aluminum weld. The inside is then powder coated flat black and the outside is powder coated Tiffany blue.
The next step was to remake the missing handle. I used spare parts I could find in the shop to construct the new handle. This thing crushes ice with ease!
I hope you guys enjoy, if you do leave a like and a comment. Subscribe if you would like to see more awesome content ;).

I think I would have used a white "food safe" enamel on the inside, the outside could be almost any art deco color. I remember seeing ads for these in "home beautiful" magazines from the late 50's and early 60's. 😊

I saw him taping up the top and bottom and thought, "Finally a restorer is going to leave the surfaces that touch the food in bare, food-safe metal as the manufacturer intended and just powder coat the outside."

My grandmother had a type that attached to the wall at eye level. It had a cup at the bottom to catch the ice. It was plain cast aluminum. Not painted at all. Circa 1960.

It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!! I think it would have looked better with white not black on the inside but it's not mine LOL

Sometimes new things do in fact work better; this was basically the best they had for home use, and you can see how uneven the ice is. Great restoration, though!
