Neil Peart (from the "Roll The Bones Radio Special"): "I've always shied away from love songs and even mentioning the word in songs because it's so much cliché, and until I thought that I'd found a new way to approach it, or a new nuance of it to express, I was not going to write one of those kind of songs. "Ghost of a Chance" fit right in with my overall theme of randomness and contingency and so on, but at the same time it was a chance for me to write about love in a different way; of saying, "Here are all these things that we go through in life and the people we meet, it's all by chance. And the corners we turn and the places we go and the people we meet there." All those things are so random and yet through all of that people do meet each other, and if they work at it they can make that encounter last. So I'm saying there's a ghost of a chance it can happen, and the odds are pretty much against it, but at the same time that ghost of a chance sometimes does come through and people do find each other and stay together."
A few Rush songs make me emotional and this is definitely one of them. So many love only 70's Rush. I do too but I also love 80's, 90's and 2000's Rush. None of it is bad in my opinions. One of my favs off this album for sure. Dreamline also awesome!
Yes, this is a beautiful love song uniquely done by Rush and Alex's guitar work is gorgeous on this song. Another love song by them is Speed of Love which I think you would enjoy. Cheers 🇨🇦
Underrated song, one of my favourties. Glad you liked it! Alex`s solo at the end is outstanding one of my favourites too, and Geddy`s bass and Neil`s fills as always underneath it outstanding too!! Different strings is much smoother than this, and such a classic song.
I think maybe one of Neil's cleverest lyrics was in Anagram (for Mongo). It's off Presto. Every verse is made up of anagrams, but somehow Neil makes it actually make sense. It's so unique.
I LOVE U GUYS.. for so long only nerdy guys like me liked them. It’s wonderful to see edgier people like ur selves and other types of people discover and appreciate them😎
Underated song and absolutely love Neils drumming in this tune. Would be interesting to hear other drummers playing there own style to this for a fun experiment.
This is a most unusual love song of its kind, pleading with his girl that there is still a chance, as slim as that chance will be. Another track similar to this particular song is also about the desperation that love puts people through. It was titled “Shooting Shark” by Blue Oyster Cult, the 1983 album version.
Love you guys and loved that you recognized the mrs following the line, “I believe there’s a ghost of a chance we can find someone to love: and make it last” Nice!!!
Everything in our lives is random. The triumphs, the reverses, everything. The one thing that is not random is the work you need to put in to make love last. No angels or stars or fate can help you with that one.
Yup, a lifetime is a long time. Many peaks and valleys. Loyalty and long sightedness, remembering good times and familiar humor/jokes....its all achievable!
My favourite album of theirs has to be “power windows” every track on the album is outstanding! “Middletown Dreams” is a track off that album well worth checking out! Wait so is “territories” oh and “big money” 😂
Interesting that different fans have different favourite albums. I’ve also found over the years that friends of mine weren’t much into Rush but suddenly there was one album that grabbed them. But that one album was a different one for each of those people! 😊
@@kevinmcfarlane2752 I love all their material and have listened to them since my early teens but my go to album is “power windows” just because I think all of their skills are highlighted to the max on this album. “Grace under pressure” certainly feels similar.
Awesome reaction! I was really hoping you guys could check out their song Headlong Flight. It's from their last studio album which really shows them going out on top. It is an album monster jam with a hard driving riff, monstrous guitar solo, and Neil well...being Neil. Thanks!
I think one of the most sensual if you will elements that rushes music grew over time was as Gettys voice matured and got lower he began to incorporate double-tracking his voice and singing harmony with himself and whatnot and it just really opened up the vocals in a way that was often times kind of dreamy and certainly Alex's guitar synthesis in these amazing Landscapes of Echoes and whatnot are very Pink Floyd if you think about it. I really do love Rush from this era, I mean I love all their music but as I go back and listen to some of this stuff I am blown away by just how complex it is in a different way than the older material was complex. That stuff was very busy and kind of in your face whereas this stuff has so many swirling textures coming in and out
Great reaction ❤ I've listened to Rush since my junior year of HS 1979... This and Subdivisions are my top tracks... The music is🔥🔥 but Neil's lyrics are so awesome and reflect my life in both those songs...❤
This is one of my favorite songs. Not favorite Rush songs... favorite songs EVER. It's as close to perfect as you get. I was married for 20 years with plenty of ups and downs but it ultimately didn't work. I then met my soulmate whiteout even trying and we have been madly in love for years now. Ghost of a chance for sure!
All Rush fans get it.the time signatures and the complexities. But when a woman says it's "Baby makin music" thats when us knuckleheads dont understand the enormity of whats being thrown at us as like with this fella! We are nerds!!!
I like your idea and it kinda fits that the song is about them as a band. As we have come to expect from Rush this is more than your usual 'love song' The lyrics expand on our journey through life while the music compliments them to perfection resulting in a beautiful experience for the listener who experiences past memories and emotions as if they just happened. This happens to me a lot with Rush, more than with any other music I have listened to. That's why I'm still a fan after 46 years. Yes. Alex has many tools in his box. They are not just there for show as he can certainly hone them to perfection. Add to that an expansive imagination, dedication and skills in abundance, not to mention a unique approach. He always seems to play just what the song needs and usually never over does it. On saying that though they all compliment each other well because they are ALL extremely gifted.
I suggest that you check out two songs from Rush's "Counterparts" album, namely "Nobody's Hero" (which has an official video) and "Cold Fire." You will see, I hope, a different facet of their output, one that doesn't get the exposure that it deserves. In fact that entire album is criminally overlooked and underrated, yet it holds the number 2 spot on my top three personal ranking. (And I have Rush's complete discography and the bulk of their DVD/Blu-ray releases. So, no lack of perspective here.…)
Ghost of a Chance and Cold Fire make perfect songs to do back to back. It gives you one song from each perspective of a relationship the latter being the bitterness and brutal pain involved. I love the way people mistake it as a love song until they realize what "cold fire" means and pay close attention to the words!
Man , yoir reactions are priceless !!! Love it !!! Keep up the good work 👍 ps Available Light is pretty smooth also. It has a nice feeling about enjoying life while we can , in the available light that still exists around us.
I love your reaction channel. Pure reactions. Reminds me so my teen years waiting for the new RUSH album. ‘Natural Science’, try that one on for size. On the ‘Permanent Waves’ album .
Song of humility,....RUSH/Neil has given me so much wisdom to work from in my life. They're always my ground zero when life becomes to complicated, they always.correct my thinking and path.
This is truly a hidden gem from this era; for more hidden gems, I recommend Animate from Counterparts and Driven - the Live In Rio performance - from Test For Echo. Cheers from Canada! 🇨🇦 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
Hidden to modern listeners at least. Between 91 and 92, New York City Rock stations would often include this in their play lists. Then a year later, Stick it Out and Nobody's Hero took that spot.
You seem to have skipped PRESTO which has some amazing songs like Show don't tell, The pass, Warpaint and one of my all time favourites from them : Available Light. YOU HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT !!!!!! Trust me this one will leave a mark on you. The perfect blend of Nostalgia and Optimism. A true insight on Neil's outlook on life... Now that he is gone, that song just kills me every single time and I shed a quiet tear as I am reminded of what a brilliant human being he was and how much he gave to us all.
check out the band ITHACA, I'm pretty sure you will like them very similar to Spiritbox. I like the song florescence, Camera eats first or fear us. I promise u will like them
Yeah unfortunately , or fortunately, you have to listen to every Rush song more than once focusing on separate elements, then listening again as a composition
Different Strings & Entre Nous are great Rush songs that deal with the complexity of relationship with a great groove
Love this song, it's my favorite song on this album. This is late night cruising windows down music
Smoothest Rush song for sure. This is Alex's masterpiece. So much nuance and appeal in his guitar playing during the slow parts.
A few Rush songs make me emotional and this is definitely one of them. So many love only 70's Rush. I do too but I also love 80's, 90's and 2000's Rush. None of it is bad in my opinions. One of my favs off this album for sure. Dreamline also awesome!
Great love song. Exactly how I feel about my wife of 35 years. Great song.
Cheers to you both!
Yes, this is a beautiful love song uniquely done by Rush and Alex's guitar work is gorgeous on this song. Another love song by them is Speed of Love which I think you would enjoy.
Cheers 🇨🇦
Awesome Song Awesome reaction love you guys and welcome to the family

Such a great song and clever!
Each line does have something to say....I agree! Presto is a great album!
This band never disappoints as a matter of a great deep track
The song is great. One of a kind. So much so, it leaves me speechless for words.
I LOVE U GUYS.. for so long only nerdy guys like me liked them. It’s wonderful to see edgier people like ur selves and other types of people discover and appreciate them😎
Love it! One of Rush's most underrated songs along with Ghost Rider. The two "Ghost" songs deserve more love! lol
If you want a smooth deep meaning song try The Garden live Clock Work Angels tour, Rush with real Violin players heart ❤️ touching
Underated song and absolutely love Neils drumming in this tune. Would be interesting to hear other drummers playing there own style to this for a fun experiment.
Neil claimed he never wrote love songs - but "Madrigal" and "Different Strings" would disagree.
Don't mind the pauses, but you might consider backing up vid a bit so you don't miss transitions.
RUSH Army is present and prepared for duty.
This is a most unusual love song of its kind, pleading with his girl that there is still a chance, as slim as that chance will be.

love this song. love this album. this album is often overlooked and i'm not sure why.
Love you guys and loved that you recognized the mrs following the line, “I believe there’s a ghost of a chance we can find someone to love: and make it last”
Nice!!!
Gotta check out the live version. Absolutely beautiful!
Unless you mean the 2000's version where Geddy struggles and yodels his way through what should be a relaxed song in his lower range?
Everything in our lives is random. The triumphs, the reverses, everything. The one thing that is not random is the work you need to put in to make love last. No angels or stars or fate can help you with that one.

Second that. I’d been waiting for you to react to headlong flight and where they were in their careers. A real banger!
Headlong Flight
The Garden
7 Cities of Gold
🙏🙏🙏🙏
Great song. Great album. So underrated. Now you need to do Lock and Key from Hold Your Fire. One of Neil's finest moments at the end of it. Please?
I hate/love this song. It makes me cry every single time. The Watchmaker has Time up his sleeve.
The guitar phrase after the chorus sounds a lot like one of Level's 42 songs, unfortunately i do not recall the name of it.

A Rush love ❤️ song so sad so many will never hear
Scars from Presto is an underrated gem.
Great review!!! Love your energy!! Im a fan and a subscriber!
Love your rush reactions. Thank you.

Pure reactions. Reminds me so my teen years waiting for the new RUSH album.
‘Natural Science’, try that one on for size. On the ‘Permanent Waves’ album .
My favourite song from ROLL THE BONES (1991)
❤I go into UTOPIA..mode when .listing to Rush this song one of my fav the music lyrics amazing 🎵 🎶 a masterpiece ✨️
Hi guys, you need to react : THE GARDEN the last Neil show…..at the same time of the show, Geddy and Alex 😅 know Neil was leaving😢😂😂
On the guitar sheet music, you'll notice the last note in the song is a "ghost note".
Alex the chameleon! He can do it all. If you want some more jazzy/bubbly Alex, try Available Light! Cheers.
The “counterpart” to this song would be speed of love. You must hear that one next. Then, to complete the “love trio” listen to cold fire.
Live version is awesome from Atlanta!
Another great Rush reaction guys
Nice….more Rush please!
If you want something in the same smoothness range, try out Bravado. It's off the same album.
Song of humility,....RUSH/Neil has given me so much wisdom to work from in my life. They're always my ground zero when life becomes to complicated, they always.correct my thinking and path.
🤘dreamline🤘 🎸🥁🎸
Has to be my favorite RUSH song....❤

Two favourites of mine too Linda 😀

Sick sick sick guitar solo
This is my favorite song from Roll the Bones, it’s a great song
I believe there's a ghost of a chance they'll stop pausing the song.....and listen to the entire song! 😉😉
We don’t have a choice if you don’t pause it it will get blocked and taken down due to copyrights. Sucks but it just is what it is
Yes, I know..... I was just joking. Copyright people are EVIL!!
:)
more rushhh

The song has a jazz influence like some other Rush songs.
There's another song about relationships I think you guys would enjoy called cold fire, but other than that you only have tears and entre nous.
But make it laaaaassst
check out the band ITHACA, I'm pretty sure you will like them very similar to Spiritbox. I like the song florescence, Camera eats first or fear us.
I promise u will like them
This could have and probably should have been a top 40 song but wasn't given a "ghost of a chance." Not that the band cared at all.
Yeah unfortunately , or fortunately, you have to listen to every Rush song more than once focusing on separate elements, then listening again as a composition
Chopped up Lerxt solo.
LAME
great album but were losing their edge by this point, needed a re-invention and did it in spades with Counterparts
your videos are really good, but you really need to quit talking during the songs.
Hey, I like your reactions but you need to shut up 🤣
I love when he says "I did" referring to" find some one to love " lyrics
