The main problem with using a desk is that its tricky to fix the pedals in a good position so they dont slide around or tilt when you push the pedals. One of the best wheel stands currently on the market is only $200 (can be expanded into a full rig later, but thats much more expensive), and a nice stand for the monitor is around $150. My guess is that once you get a wheel, you will probably want a stand (unless you have the money and space for a full rig), and once you get that you will want a monitor stand. The monitor stand is nowhere near as important as having the pedals locked in a good position though, and if you got a desk with adjustable height, you might get pretty good results by placing the monitor right behind the wheel. Assuming you are driving in cocpit view, this placement makes it feel a lot more natural, making it easier to judge when to start the turn, and all that stuff. It also adds immersion in 3 ways. 1 - The screen fills more of your vision, making it feel a bit more like a VR experience. 2 - You can use a higher FOV, so you enjoy seeing more of the landscape/track. 3 - Having the wheel line up with where it would be on the dashboard of the car makes it feel much more real 😁 My current setup (wheel, shifter, wheel stand, and monitor stand) cost me $1100, which IMO seem a bit steep for playing games, but people love entertainment, and often spend this money for a TV, or just some speakers, and a good gaming pc cost several times more than a budget sim racing setup. If you get good quality stands for the wheel and monitor, it might actually last your entire life (unless they change the standards for mounting the wheel and monitor) 👍
