Now that was so cool. Very nice portable setup. Back in my days in the 70s having CBs was big, almost everyone had one. Good video.

Radio is fun and you should think about getting back in. Depending on your area, CB might be big or GMRS might be it. Of course there is always Amateur Radio. Search the net for clubs in your area if you decide to get back in. Thanks for watching and for your comment!

Good to hear from you John. Are you all vacced up? I don't have the gift of gab, so ham radios never interested me. Old neighbors of mine were really into it and I would listen in.

Nice video there John. I especially liked the beginning when I heard the PEM Repeater, lol. I've thought about getting an inexpensive DC PS like that, but was wondering about interference. I guess yours works just fine. It looks like the one in my 3D printers. W4BDP

I was skeptical too about that PS, especially how cheap it was but the CSIT instructor at my school (which is also a ham) told me it should work great for that set up. So I picked it up off Amazon. I only use it when I’m setting up portable ( I guess that’s what its called) when camping or on vacation using that roll-up slim-Jim antenna. It’s small and light for that. At home I use a Tripp-Lite 40 amp regulated power supply for my base.
I was real surprised when my dad’s buddy came on while recording. I thought it added to the demo. Thank for watching and for your comment. I’ll “see” you on the airwaves!

Well done. I have the same rig in my home QTH and need to take it to the lakes.

Nice setup. Now it's time to upgrade, if needed, and get an HF radio so you can work the world from you campsite.
I've done same for many years.

I agree! I’m taking my General this coming Saturday morning and my dad is taking his Extra. It’s gonna be fun to have more HF privileges . I have enjoyed working 10m in that little slot of 28.3- 28.5 from my truck and my dads station. I think I am ready.

What is the name and model of that radio and how many watts does it put out?

It's an Anytone AT- D578. It does FM and DMR modes along with the APRS beacon function but will not send of receive APRS messages. Max watts is 50.
