Live Tonight on Millennium Stage: Stories forge connections. They change minds, touch hearts, and build bridges between individuals and communities. Stories are at the heart of the Peace Corps experience, and they inspire us in service of Peace Corps’ mission of world peace and friendship.
Growing Together: Stories from the Peace Corps will showcase inspirational stories about the connections made by Peace Corps volunteers, staff, and local community members through their experiences with the Peace Corps.
    About the Peace Corps:
The Peace Corps is an international service network of volunteers, community members, host country partners, and staff who are driven by the agency’s mission of world peace and friendship. At the invitation of governments around the world, Peace Corps volunteers work alongside community members on locally-prioritized projects in the areas of education, health, environment, agriculture, community economic development, and youth development. Through service, members of the Peace Corps network develop transferable skills and hone intercultural competencies that position them to be the next generation of global leaders. Since President John F. Kennedy established the Peace Corps in 1961, more than 240,000 Americans have served in 143 countries worldwide.

The Peace Corps is a part of the United States government. The same government that's responsible for many of the imperialist conflicts and wars across the world. It's also the same government that supplies weapons and funding to Israel as they continue their 76th year of colonialism in Palestine. How does this fit with being peaceful? There isn't anything to be excited about being associated with the Peace Corps as long as it has direct ties to the imperialist nation of the United States. It's a massive contradiction.

Don't be silly. You are acting as if the government is a small family run business.

I doubt that you've watched this video. You're barking up the wrong tree. The Peace Corps is independent of the U.S. military, and it is nonpartisan. The Peace Corps only sends volunteers to countries and organizations that have requested volunteers, who live with local host families and work daily with local counterparts and other community members. Almost all the staff at the Peace Corps office in each country are hired locally. Peace Corps trainees and volunteers learn from host country nationals the local languages and cultures of the countries where they serve. Minds are opened, skills are learned, and lifelong friendships are formed. The Peace Corps lives up to its name, and it's possibly the one federal government agency you would have the least to complain about if you knew enough about it.

I am a proud American and returned RPCV and the only way to make our country better is to dive in and engage in making the changes necessary to make our government reflect our values of cooperation, kindness and persistent action for a better future.
