That 2200 reading is in microsieverts/hour if I’m correct. That equates to 0.22 roentgen/hour. The firefighters were subject to over 15000 roentgen/hour when they fought the fires at Chernobyl, to put things into perspective.

Props to your guide "Look at this place, fifty-thousand people used to live in this city, now it's a ghost town. I've never seen anything like it" Captain Macmillan.
Awesome video, can't wait for the rest of the series. A suggestion when you get back to your no money challenges - how about no money for 24/48 hours in unknown locations? Every 24/48 hours you board a completely random train and try survive in a surprise location (maybe even use like a number generator to pick a train platform). I think it'd be a great way to experice places you may just not have considered visiting before, especially if you did it in other countries.
Sam You HAVE to watch it buddy! It’s fantastic. I always imagined it had several inaccuracies cause it’s Hollywood but it also does give you a good idea of what happened and what it was like then when it was happening. Plus it has amazing acting and the show it’s self is absolutely gripping.
Valery Legasov : What is the cost of lies? It's not that we'll mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all
This made me so upset, I was old enough to remember when this happened. I was just 15 probably like many of the subscribers to this channel. The devastation depicted then is nothing compared to seeing it now. What an absolute nightmare to view, I've seen other UA-camrs visit that kindergarten before mostly for paranormal research but to see in the daylight the cribs, the tiny gas masks. Such horror that must have been for the families of that city. I hope that after visiting you took care to leave those clothes behind and just do the necessary things to protect yourself. Your a brave young man, or bat shit crazy. Not sure which yet even tho I've been subscribed for quite a bit now. After this one I'm leaning towards a bit of both. Be well Simon.
Those things aren't harmful to you, just because the item is highly radiated doesn't mean as soon as you touch it you're just as radiated, and anything lower than 5000 mSv is safe.

Hi Simon, Not sure if you’ll read this - hoping you will, but I recently watched a documentary on Amazon prime titled ‘Chernobyl’s Cafe’. It’s centred around the only cafe in Chernobyl, however, it also takes you through the entire history of Chernobyl, pre-explosion, & the aftermath. Its not at all boring (I know some documentary’s can drag on), straight to the point & packs everything in within 51 minutes. Even if you’ve visited I’d highly recommend it. Those living in Pripyat & the surrounding areas were actually still there after the blast, & were living IN it for 4 days (!!!) including babies & children (as well as the vulnerable). The government ‘didn’t want to cause a mass panic’ ( 🙄 ). After 4 days a message came over a loud speaker asking all residents to get their passports, birth certificates, a change of clothes & that was it. They’d only be gone for ‘3 days’ - none of them ever returned. By this point residents were passing out, throwing up.. they were all struck with radiation poisoning. Just awful. Yes, definitely recommend it ! My mother was pregnant with me at the time, & radiation did come over here to the U.K. - it affected our sheep / cattle, that I can recall being told anyway. Great video. Laura x
What a great video Simon! I want to go to Chernobyl but your right most don't want to. My mum told me about the Chernobyl disaster years ago as I was born later that year. It was a shock at the time and most people wouldn't want to relive that experience.

As an approximate figure, that metal case thing the guy touched, you’d have to stand there continually by it for 16 days before it would cause you serious life threatening illness or kill you.
Your flight To Chernobyl had almost same radiation as the radiation you experience at Chernobyl. So many people are unaware of how much radiation is around them all the time and Simon was sooo shocked by the amounts at 7.16 but Simon doesn’t know what effects 2000 radiation has or how short term radiation had little damage and is fine, long term however does have damaging effect
I don't know much. But I think the danger from radiation is from : how long you're exposed to it. Often more than the levels. I think that's why they are quite strict h On timing how long you are there.. A bit like being out in the sun, I guess
