Faculty College: Developing a New Introductory Biology Curriculum

The faculty in the Department of Biology developed a new biology course, BIO 60: Introduction to Problem Solving, that was offered for the first time in Spring 2017. BIO 60 is the first biology course in the department that is targeted to freshman, specifically to encourage freshman interest in biology. The emphasis of the course is on skill building and introducing students to thinking like a biologist. Their innovative course design focused on real case studies and successfully integrated proven active learning methods.
