I met my husband at University of Central Florida in 1996. Over spring break I came to MKE to meet his family . We took the Hiawatha to the Hancock stayed at the Drake and engaged that night . Now my youngest is turning 13, and we are taking the Hiawatha to the top of the tower for his birthday. Sentimental vibes for sure .❤
When I was a child, my mom's sister lived in Chicago and, since my mom didn't drive, we (mom, my sis, and I) would take the train down in the morning and return later that same day. It was a very different experience then (the early '60s) but I have fond memories of it all the same. Thanks for the trip down memory lane for this Midwesterner!
Milwaukee has a FREE (!) streetcar called The Hop which stops at the Intermodal station. Right now there's just one route that takes you downtown, but in 2023 they're adding a second route that will go to the Discovery Museum, which is adjacent to the Milwaukee Art Museum and Henry Maier Festival Park (aka Summerfest grounds). Amtrak should work with the city to promote day trips.
Thanks for posting this. I went to Marquette University: the depot is within walking distance of the university campus. For trips to Chicago, I took the train.
This line can be very busy Fri eve/Mon morn. I have even seen trains sold out during the summer. For downtown MKE to CHI, the end-to-end time is the same as driving, if not faster.
Best bet I can say is the website should the approximate capacity of the train booked. On there it’ll show the percentage full. Hopefully another can answer that’s local to help more
I get what you mean. I’ll aim to have more footage when I arrive somewhere. Sometimes not good because most of the audience clicks off on arrival……so far
@mattsmoments2 ahh I see what you mean. To bad they do because some others show the tiny stations with one bench and then the huge ones. Nothing in-between. But I get what you are saying 🙂
From what I was reading……Unfortunately they have no other choice with freight train workers striking Friday 12:01am. Hopefully a deal between the freight companies and their union workers come to an agreement on a CBA
@@mattsmoments2 AMTRAK is planning to eventually extend some Hiawatha runs. One route would run west to Madison on CP via Waterown, while the second would run north to Green Bay using CN (ex-Soo Line) tracks.

I love hearing from viewers and their special memories. And thank you for watching!

That’s pretty cool and good to know. Amtrak should definitely advertise it with the city to get more foot traffic in parts

You’re welcome! That pretty cool to hear the feedback from those that take it
The Amtrak is a great way to travel!
It definitely is

Is that busy from Chicago fri eve? And to Chicago Mon morning? On a daytrip to Milwaukee so want to avoid full trains!

This route is about the only useful rail line in Wisconsin. Really wish there was better rail service in the state.
That’s a bummer to hear
It would have been nice to have a tour of the Milwaukee station and what it all has. Otherwise good video.

The reporter ignored a stop at Sturtevant. It was shown on the map.
A lot of people ride up to Billy Mitchel Field for lower fares.
Good thinking!
Reside in chgo? I grew up there
I heard on the news that amtrak is suspending long distance travel as of friday- wow- the amtrak website and app does not address said-

In four years you may see a train from Twin Cities to Duluth.
