Agree that purity is much more about the attitudes of people buying and selling gold than it is about the gold itself. I think that in some cases, the difference between 3-9s and 4-9s is probably due more to rounding the assay numbers than it is to any real difference in purity. Even if not, well, a 1-oz gold coin always contains 1 full oz. of gold, regardless of purity.
I don't know about "the sweet spot" in gold coins but do know that I like AGEs a LOT better than buffalos. I don't buy the little 1/10 oz. gold coins because of their dinky size and their high premium per oz. of gold purchased. I like the 1/4 and 1/2 oz. sizes but maybe 2/3 of my gold stack is in 1-oz. coins. I used to stack only Maples and Eagles but have since added Britannias as well. All are beautiful coins and I enjoy stacking them. My purpose for owning gold is to use as supplemental retirement income, in case our current retirement income is decimated by inflation, and to make sure that we can pay our property taxes, even during any hard times that come along. If the stack is not needed for hard times during our lives, then it will go to our two children and 2 grand children. Hopefully, it will be of help to them if hard times manage to be delayed until we pass them on. That seems like a low probability but who knows? Sovereign gold typically has better benefits toward the owner over a foreign piece. For example in Canada, they are taxed on any bullion which isn't 24k. @@CampbellsCoins "in the US, there are many benefits for gold eagle holders over the maple."... for example what? I personally stack all fractional. Mostly 1/4 and 1/2. If you look back to 2001 gold was like $250 an ounce. Thats about 8x in about 20 years. If gold 8x again over the next 20-30 years (my personal stacking window) then it might be difficult to find a buyer who has $18,000 laying around to buy your full coins. That's my hyper optimistic outlook but realistically i just want more coins, i would rather blow an extra couple hundred and have 4 shiney gold coins than just one. Over the buying period of 4 coins if you just stop eating fast food at $15 a trip you won't even feel that premium difference.
Very nice and informative video !!! 0:57 - Thank you for saying that 👍! Many UA-camrs from the states forget, that UA-cam is actually world-wide media with people all over the world and that means different.....practically everything 🤷♂️ And when it comes to investment gold the things can be and they are quite different. In my country for example ( east Europe ) the eagle and the buffalo are almost the worst buy ,,you" can do. Why ? Well, at the first place political reasons, extremely higher price, and a bit problematic liquidity = I am not saying, that a gold dealer will not buy your buffalo, but it's possible to hear - yes, we are buying eagles and buffaloes, BUT just not in the moment. So my very personal advice for every staker is to check which coins are with 24/7 liquidity before buying ! Greetings 🍻
I started with 1/10 ounce gold eagles then quarter ounce then half ounce then 1 oz lol Gold fever is real!!! I think if u can afford it to have all sizes kind of diversify. of course i bought almost all mine when gold was $1100 an ounce better prices/ premiums. cool video
I have gold eagles in all the different sizes that I bought more than a year ago.the premium is too high now for me. I have been buying gold cast bars at a lower premium but now they are scarce. I think if I needed a loaf of bread when shtf I can scrape off some flakes on a cast bar. I can’t do it with an eagle 🤔
Actually, you can. Use a file or a drill. Makes nice grains or shavings that can be weighed out for buying things. Yes, it is a little messy but if we are doing that to survive, a lot of things will be messy at that time. Some use gold chains for this by clipping off a few links to pay for purchases in places where gold is in use as money. This is ]convenient but the premium on any jewelry product is atrocious compared to coins and even more so when compared to bars. But buying daily needs should be best handled by silver coins, so having some of them in hand is good too. I like US 90% silver coins minted before 1965, ASEs, and Maples.
@Campbell's Coins yes, but steps taken. NOW! ZERO zero discussion re: RATIO! 84:1! No one discusses the manipulated ratio vs the 45:1 ratio in 2011 nor the patience required to sit tight.
@@GoodmanMIke59 OHHHH I've discussed the ratio. I went into historical ratios, present day and what I'd like to see in the future. Search it on my channel and a couple vids should pop up.
Dude is right about the 1/4oz is less obvious. I have traveled many times with gold. Anything in tubes will attract the attention of the TSA. The last time i traveled to the states, i bought 2 1/4 oz eagles and mixed them in a bag of constitutional silver. They didn't even look at them. Every time i had gold in tubes/capsules i got pulled out of line for a visual search.
I like diversifying my sizes. I think 1oz is great for long term stacking. I like the 1/4 oz for its liquidity as it is much easier to sell to a larger precious metal customer base. Another thing to consider, is that if gold ever hits over 10k in my lifetime, I don't want to have to endure further loss by having to pay Uncle Sam his cartel cut, if I decide to cash out some gold. I would rather sell 1/4 oz gold over separate day transactions to keep each cash transaction under the 10k reporting threshold. 😉
Four 1/4 oz gold eagles= $40 face value. One 1 oz Gold eagle = $50 face value. If you ever need to make a case that you are carrying them as if you were carrying "cash" at face value, then you can carry more gold per face value with the 1/4 ouncers.
Both are good but the 1/4 oz is better because it's cheaper in terms of total cost. No doubt people will argue for the 1 oz saying the premium is less. Let me tell you, I don't look at premium, I look at total cost - what does it cost overall, what's the cost of shipping, are there any taxes on top of this, whats the percentage I have to pay if I use my credit card vs money order. All of that matters.
From where I’m sitting the full 1oz is best. Why? 9% sales tax for any bullion purchase under $1500. Full 1 oz = spot + premium, 1/4 oz = spot + premium + 9% tax.
Great video....I will say this..Platinum is the ultimate sleeper....Once BRICS takes off and the invisible war/power vaccum get resolved Platinum will skyrocket...All metals have been restricted as we all know however Platinum is imo the best deal period...China is picking up swaths of Platinum...Between new technologies...new car production...Platinum will imo be way more than gold ...Its rarity no doesnt mean value however its usage will ultimately make it skyrocket
I’m stacking most of the money I’ll get refunded from my returns. Was undecided as to what other gold to buy. I’ll probably have enough for a 1/4 oz. This video came out at the right time. Thanks.
We need to get on the horn, and demand 1/4 oz buffalos. Could you imagine if by some fluke of nature they listened. Small time collectors would never be able to get our hands on them. "Pre order now. Estimated shipping date 2033".
I would love to purchase more 1/4 Oz AGE but the premium is roughly 13.5% over spot, or over $250 per Oz over spot. That's from Monument Metals, the lowest premium online bullion dealer. Premium for 1/4 Oz AGE is high, more than double the premium when buying a full ounce of AGE but when compared to the premium for 1 Oz of silver gold eagles, it's actually much, much lower premiums. So I guess if you look at it from that perspective, 1/4 Oz AGE isn't too bad.
Before you stack, you better have at least 1-2K cash at all times lying around. If you want to get a shock, go to the bank and ask for a band. That's always fun.
A lot of banks only have a small amount of cash on hand but it is not hard to request cash from them. They will order it from their local vault, which is usually in their main office. I do that maybe 5-6 times a year and always for the $6k to $8k I need. I usually get some $50s, lots of $20s and $10s, plus a few $5s. Once this comes to the local branch, I drive there, ID myself, they count out the cash, and I go home happy. I really do think that the end of cash will happen but it will happen sooner if there is little interest in using cash. Handling cash costs the banks quite a bit of money and they would rather skip that expense if they can. But if customers continue to want and use cash, they will continue to offer it as long as they can.
@@edb3877 "As long as they can" is the important part. A band is $10k. I dare you to ask for 2 bands and see how long it takes. So that posits the question...... Is someone really wealthy if they simply have a number on a screen. Most people I have shown this issue do not quite believe they are as wealthy as they once thought they were. You're here, so we probably think a lot alike. These are interesting times we live in.
@@youKnowWho3311 I don't accept dares in financial matters but whatever. I also don't want to order $10k or more at one time and have that paperwork involved. Not sure how the US Gov rule on reporting sales of $600 or more will work these days, though. I know that receiving cash from my account is not a sale but spending it could be. Anyway, it seems that this is a related issue and I am wondering if there is overlap in this. Yes, we have more in common that most, I suspect, and for the reason you mention: our common interest in stacking. 🙂 These are, indeed, interesting times and it seems likely that they will continue to get more interesting as time passes.
Well i don’t know. The whole video seems to circle around buying 1 coin or a couple of the small ones. Whoever does that… Isn’t the goal to stack up a treasure chest?
It is interesting that the 1/2 oz isn't as popular as the 1/4 and 1 oz. New normals suck. 'Nuff said! While I am watching this video I opened a spreadsheet and found out that I actually have 3 times as many 1/2 oz AGEs than I do 1/4 oz. This was not on purpose, however, but a symptom of a few purchases from different estates a number of years ago. After watching your video, it occurs to me that perhaps I should try to trade those 1/2s for two 1/4s. I'm with you on the 24k Buffalo. I really, really like them. As for what to expect with metals, now we're seeing world economic powers bypassing the dollar to trade in their own currencies. How can this do anything but weaken the dollar? I think it's a good sign for metals, but a bad sign for the world's reserve currency...
If you are a collector and buying gold for any price is not an issue, buying the proof 1/2 oz gold eagle is the best. Why ? 1/2 oz proof gold Eagles have the lowest mintages of all the fractional gold eagle coins. This is more for collectors than stackers and if your into low mintage gold.
I don't like the way gold eagles look, they are just ugly, maples are beautiful, they shine, are more pure , even with silver eagles , the only time I buy is when they are messed up and cheap.

Many UA-camrs from the states forget, that UA-cam is actually world-wide media with people all over the world and that means different.....practically everything 🤷♂️
And when it comes to investment gold the things can be and they are quite different.
In my country for example ( east Europe ) the eagle and the buffalo are almost the worst buy ,,you" can do.
Why ?
Well, at the first place political reasons,
extremely higher price, and a bit problematic liquidity = I am not saying, that a gold dealer will not buy your buffalo, but it's possible to hear
- yes, we are buying eagles and buffaloes, BUT just not in the moment.
So my very personal advice for every staker is to check which coins are with 24/7 liquidity before buying !
Greetings 🍻
Glad you liked it. Thanks for stopping by!
great video content!
Appreciate it bro!
I started with 1/10 ounce gold eagles then quarter ounce then half ounce then 1 oz lol Gold fever is real!!! I think if u can afford it to have all sizes kind of diversify. of course i bought almost all mine when gold was $1100 an ounce better prices/ premiums. cool video
It went way up 2,053 per ounce 4/13/23 Texas
I have gold eagles in all the different sizes that I bought more than a year ago.the premium is too high now for me. I have been buying gold cast bars at a lower premium but now they are scarce. I think if I needed a loaf of bread when shtf I can scrape off some flakes on a cast bar. I can’t do it with an eagle 🤔
Actually, you can. Use a file or a drill. Makes nice grains or shavings that can be weighed out for buying things. Yes, it is a little
messy but if we are doing that to survive, a lot of things will be messy at that time. Some use gold chains for this by clipping off
a few links to pay for purchases in places where gold is in use as money. This is ]convenient but the premium on any jewelry
product is atrocious compared to coins and even more so when compared to bars.
But buying daily needs should be best handled by silver coins, so having some of them in hand is good too. I like US 90% silver
coins minted before 1965, ASEs, and Maples.
Well I guess I’m moving to Canada, have mostly Canadian coins.
The LCSs around me are WAY overpriced! Much better prices online. Even Apmex have better prices than my LCSs.
That's too bad. Buy from my LCS Avenue Coin.
Same here. My I visited my LCS today and he was WAY over priced.
At $674 why not simply by 2X 10 Oz bars of silver and top it off with a 4X silver rounds or 3 American Silver Eagles?
Gold stores wealth more efficiently.
Wow! That's Heavy brother 😎 👍I pick the one ounce coin all day everyday......you kno it!!!😁
😎
That is an interesting point. I'll have to do a video on denomination.
Yeah, I've got sales tax on bullion in my state. That's why I get three 1/4oz eagles.
1/4oz the best ones imo, its easier to sell them and you can stack them better
I really dig them.
sd bullion has the best prices and options in my opinion their my go 2.
22K should answer your question, i understand there is 1 ozt of gold in the coin
I feel the Quarter ounce is the best for several reasons.
I seem to be the lone stacker of 1/2 oz
One of the brave few.
I really like 1/4.
😎💯
I dream of a day of being able to afford a 1/4 or a half! MUCH LESS A WHOLE OUNCE! LOL
What are your thoughts on pre-33 U.S. coins?
You'll get there. Love pre33. Have lots of videos going over them.
I’m stacking most of the money I’ll get refunded from my returns. Was undecided as to what other gold to buy. I’ll probably have enough for a 1/4 oz. This video came out at the right time. Thanks.
My pleasure! Thanks for stopping by!
Coin of the realm.
Why decide? With the power of RAR you can buy both and so much more!
All, but,I wish I had some 1/10 ounces.
Id prefer 1oz but here in aussie thats 2700+ so i have to get the 1/4 coins and 1gram bars
Our bullion in aussie tax exempt
We need to get on the horn, and demand 1/4 oz buffalos. Could you imagine if by some fluke of nature they listened. Small time collectors would never be able to get our hands on them. "Pre order now. Estimated shipping date 2033".
BOTH
"1oz Gold Eagle Vs. 1/4oz Gold Eagle"
I'll take the 1 ounce! I want it big enough to SEE it.
Fractional gold has a huge premium
wow that 1/10 oz isn’t even worth buying with that premium
Watching this video a year later and spot is at 2300.
Hands down if you've never owned piece of order in your life, the one ounce called eagle should be the first.
Bro I died laughing at don't be suspicious 😂
😂💯
If a full ounce is $50 value, why is the quarter ounce $10 on back? It should be $12.50.
Been pretty quiet here recently.
Before you stack, you better have at least 1-2K cash at all times lying around. If you want to get a shock, go to the bank and ask for a band. That's always fun.
Yup
A lot of banks only have a small amount of cash on hand but it is not hard to request cash from them. They will order it from their local vault,
which is usually in their main office. I do that maybe 5-6 times a year and always for the $6k to $8k I need. I usually get some $50s, lots of
$20s and $10s, plus a few $5s. Once this comes to the local branch, I drive there, ID myself, they count out the cash, and I go home happy. I
really do think that the end of cash will happen but it will happen sooner if there is little interest in using cash. Handling cash costs the banks
quite a bit of money and they would rather skip that expense if they can. But if customers continue to want and use cash, they will continue
to offer it as long as they can.
I also don't want to order $10k or more at one time
and have that paperwork involved. Not sure how the US Gov rule on reporting sales of $600 or more will work these days, though.
I know that receiving cash from my account is not a sale but spending it could be. Anyway, it seems that this is a related issue and
I am wondering if there is overlap in this. Yes, we have more in common that most, I suspect, and for the reason you mention: our
common interest in stacking. 🙂 These are, indeed, interesting times and it seems likely that they will continue to get more
interesting as time passes.
Give me the quarter eagle so I can stack the Buffalo!
Gold 🦅🦅
Well i don’t know. The whole video seems to circle around buying 1 coin or a couple of the small ones. Whoever does that…
Isn’t the goal to stack up a treasure chest?
It's almost like I'm presenting the audience with info for both options so they can make up their own damn minds what is best for them. 😅
It’s what your budget can afford
I don't like the way gold eagles look, they are just ugly, maples are beautiful, they shine, are more pure , even with silver eagles , the only time I buy is when they are messed up and cheap.
I bet you wish you would have bought more 1 oz Gold Eagles. Now they cost.. $2,400.
💯
