I love black drum too. Most people consider them trash fish. They taste great when they still have their stripes and they are fun to catch when they're big.
The big ones that get away make us appreciate and respect the sport even more. I know it’s frustrating and I’ve been there but ya gotta respect that fish.
Interesting, 9:19 are you using a loop knot to tie on a circle hook? I use it when I'm throwing artificials or flies because the loop knot gives the bait more life I find, but for tying directly to a hook and throwing live bait? Why? I always snell or uni when tying directly to a hook.
My dude! Love your vids, ordered a shirt and I felt the heart break 🥺. Went through it today, on a tarpon. Skunked for two months since moving to Melbourne, FL from Tampa and not a damn thing. Traded two snook jigs for a hogy mullet swim bait yesterday at the fort pierce jetty and i didn't even check my drag! Stress fishing. 🤦🏽♂️ got it all on the gopro. Replayed the failure and seen the top water live mullet eat after I missed the set. 💔 keep the 10in+ snapper, two tacos better than no tacos! Lol. Keep them coming brother! Mike ✌ Poon Hunter
Hey man still a good day. Got a few for the cooler plus had that monster snook on for a minute and still managed a 30 incher too so that's a pretty damn good day even though I know you are sick losing that big snook. Man I can't tell you how many times I have lost big fish like that too. It sux but that's why they are big and smart and more times than not somehow find a way to either break us off or get us all jacked up on some structure or the boat or some kinda shit that other fish never do. It's part of the game bro.....be happy you hooked up!!!😎👍👍
IMO Black drum and Mangroves are best eating inshore fish. Snook are really good too but I rarely harvest. And your being to hard on yourself young man. You can out fish most! Love your content bro.
Justin Menendez absolutely they way it should be. Blackies and Mangs are my favorite for a fish fry. Just did a huge fish fry and steamer pot for the 4th. I am in Bradenton right on the Sarasota Bay. Had cooler full of black drum and Mangroves. Blue cabs chunks used for bait.
Both have seriously helped me up my game and land bigger better fish. I’d love too see these guys duke it out on the water. My deal with Lawson Is the 50k boat, the $1000 setups, and the heaviest of all pound test. Hell even his Bote solo is 4x more than JM’s Gheenoe. I’m not hating, I watch every one of his videos and think Lawson himself is a BMF on the water, but JM’s grind is more relatable for me.
Love your channel. Tell me if you have an idea about this “one that got away.” I fish for snook in Boca Grande FL, in canals that look a lot like your area. I’ve landed a few 40s from the sea wall in my backyard. (No boat). Every once in a while I hook something that feels like a locomotive. Impossible to turn much less land. Never see them. I assumed they were massive snook. Other day I saw something big and gold roll. I threw a large top water. Fish hit and was gone. Freight train. No chance. Broke line or I would’ve been spooled. Next day, I hooked a 4’ tarpon 15’ from wall. I know because it jumped immediately before throwing the lure. That made me wonder if the fish the day before could’ve been a tarpon. BUT it never jumped. Long way around to my question: do tarpon always jump when hooked? If not, would you think first fish was a tarpon? If so, what else could it be? Thanks again for the great vids.
Most big tarpon (over 100 pounds) generally don’t jump until they have a lot of pressure on them. I would imagine they are Tarpon or sharks. Exciting stuff!
Grant Mu Thanks. I considered a jack, as they are plentiful here. BUT this fish and the other locomotives didn’t have that wiggle twitch feel like a jack. So, probably a tarpon, I guess.
Josh Moore Awesome. You answered my question. I’d say based on your explanation, it was a tarpon, despite no jump. Thanks for the reply. Back after them tonight!
The issue isn't really the trolling motor its just that the boat is so light that when you use tight drag and heavy tackle you just pull the entire boat to the fish instead of pulling the fish to the boat.
I fished out of a 14' stumpnocker for quite a while. The ipilot was a lifesaver when it came to pulling fish out of structure. Spot lock does a great job of keeping you in one place
Awesome video! Your channel is an inspiration, I just started making videos for fun, it must have taken some serious work to build 12.5k subs. You've got one more from me!
just found out about ur channel and i really like the way u fish, keep on going but do me one favor and kill the fish before u put em‘ in the icebox. keep fishing and lines tight!

Hey Justin I’m in your area and you went by my bait shop
This is my first video watched by this guy so far he’s a pretty good UA-camr

The guys at Man Overboard are really cool. My go to bait shop as well as Riggs.
Agree
Saw you were at MOB at the intro....Love Al....always shares the most up to date info.....super guy
I like the fact that you don’t keep barely legal fish, banger video 🔥
That was a sick fight with the snook! Great fishing I love your videos!

Shout out Mike and Al at Man Overboard.🦐
I’m going to Sarasota soon I will be fishing by a bridge with docs, what should I use?
Maybe some NLBN 3” paddletails.
@@justin_menendez what color and how do I work them
@@justin_menendez I have some white and white and gray paddle tails, I mainly use them for smallmouth but could they work?
Love the real fishing
Just subscribed, love the editing bro keep up the good work and thank you for the content!

Mad respect for keeping that snook out of those pilings 👊 *even if the hook did pull*
Good to see eating fish,it’s good for you 💪
Bought one your your shirts because how badass they are🤘🏻
Thanks so much👍👍
Great video wish I can catch some snook like that
Took me a while to figure out where your fishing. Dropping at eau gallie, fishing docks down lansing
“got our first fish of the day” mangroves- chopped liver
Love your channel!💯💪
Ok,, now that's a cool cooler and you did it in kayak.
hows the stability on your canoe? like your set up!
Dock wars🤘😎
Bama Beach bum is looking for someone who knows canals and where to find snook. I pointed him to you
Awesome video. Thank you
Great vid sir, can’t get em all bro.
Exactly! How boring would fishing be if we did?
What is the set of viewer using for the lady fish are you using two hooks or just a single like 7/0 circle hook?
I was just using a 7/0 circle hook. I've never used live ladyfish before so i just rigged them through the nose.
Main line # and what kind of leader ?
40 pound braid and 50 pound mono leader
Justinthank you for the insite!!
I am just getting my tackle and kayak in line to try some of the fun i see you having.
Should look into a tiller extension for your trolling motor
Id rather just have a larger front deck so I can stand closer to the trolling motor. The front bench is just an awkward distance away.
Very nice day of video bro 👌😍🇺🇸

My family just ate the fish from this video. So good!

Everything about you and your channel reminds me of lawson lindsey
Probably change name due loss in so many fish lol
Same gear same boat

Hey where did you find your boat ruler at?
The one in my boat is from a company called Seadek.
@@justin_menendez oh ok cool. Yeah now that you said that i do remember seeing them on their page. Nice videos also man👍🏿
What’s the size of the spinfisher 6 on your heavy rod?
5500
Those grovers you caught are instant thumps. If you dont mind using a snapper for bait obv
I could have used that 11 inch snapper and for sure hooked up. Didn't think of that.
Sweet Video!
I got one of your shirts and I love it!
Thanks man!!
I never use circle hooks for snook for that reason, I’ve landed more 40+ inch fish on j hooks than anything
Yea I won't keep Snapper unless they are at least 12" and convicts at least 14". Just to small to cut up
What knot do you use it looks very strong
I use a loop knot for tying to hooks and lures.
Bro do you live in or near Melbourne??
That snookvmust been a professional lol
Great video
For a second I thought that the sheepshead was the one that ate that lady fish 😂
You should fishing Lawson
What area are you based out of? Trying to learn more territory around me. I'm in Orlando but primarily fish the east coast
Can I get some fishing tips I havent been able to get on em lately

Thanks I appreciate the feedback 👍

It could’ve been a massive Jack or snook
Most big tarpon (over 100 pounds) generally don’t jump until they have a lot of pressure on them. I would imagine they are Tarpon or sharks. Exciting stuff!
Could have been a giant snook or jack. Also could have been a full grown tarpon, sometimes large tarpon don't jump.
Grant Mu Thanks. I considered a jack, as they are plentiful here. BUT this fish and the other locomotives didn’t have that wiggle twitch feel like a jack. So, probably a tarpon, I guess.

Quick ? Im curious since your last name is latin, are u Cuban?
Yes cuban.
Did he pull the hook?? Or r u using a J
Just shook the hook somehow with a 7/0 circle.
Justin Menendez wow I’ve had a big snook shake three treble hooks🤦♂️😭 it’s unbelievable how they do that.
or you could have just turned round
Can I get a shoutout
