That first dinner with Roger’s family is underrated as to how important it is in Riggs’ mental and emotional recovery. That’s probably his first real happy laughter since his wife died.
There are four movies in the franchise (so far), and in my opinion, all of them are a lot of fun, and they maintain the spirit of the first. Great reaction, as usual, take care, be safe!
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a real thing during the holidays. As a kid growing up, the only time you would hear traditional Christmas music was during the 2 weeks just before the 25th. Now, stores are putting out Christmas displays early, and radio stations are playing Christmas music right after Halloween. It's very depressing the way commercialism has taken over.
Please watch all 4. You get to see their relationship grow. Plus you meet me characters and then you'll probably want to watch more movies with them in it. It's a win win.
The term you are looking for is "suspension of disbelieve", meaning that you accept the in movie world as it is, not overthinking it and going with the flow.
SHANE BLACK. This was the movie that made him a star, and his next few movies just kept escalating the violence and style, and then everything turned and he had a long dark dry stretch, but then he found his way again. LONG KISS GOODNIGHT KISS KISS BANG BANG THE NICE GUYS (please do this one!) He has a thing for weirdly dark stories set during Christmas-- it's kind of his trademark. I love the man.
Lethal Weapon is one of my all time favorite movie series. I feel like each movie is just a little bit better than the last, and by the end you feel like part of the family.
Danny Glover in real life is a big jazz fan. Thats why he got the jazzy saxophone theme, and Riggs got the guitar riff - you didnt notice, most dont - but as the characters get closer, become a team the 2 themes become a harmony. There are 4 Lethal Weapon movies - they're all fairly good... Yes watch them all - there is a 5th on the way... I dont know how it'll work, as Murtaugh is 5 years older than Joe Biden.
Truly a Christmas movie. In real life, Darlene Love, Roger's wife, Trish, had a hit Christmas song, "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" , from 1963. Each year, near Christmas, from 1986-2014, she sang the song on David Letterman's late night show, on American TV. Many folks have sung the song. You Tube has several videos of them, including a few of Darlene Love.
Grand L. Bush(Boyette, the cop who told Roger he was getting a new partner) also played an F.B.I. agent in Die Hard. Al Leong(the torturer) was also I'm both.
michael kamen's core is genius each instrument and style represents different characters. the jazzy saxophone represents roger. played by the amazing david Sanborn, the electric guitar played by eric Clapton represents Riggs. the full orchestra is the movie as a whole.
Here's a useful piece of advice from a film called "The Big Chill": Sometimes you just have to let art... flow... over you. It's a great movie abut a group of friends that get together for a weekend due to a funeral. Full of good music and conversations, no car chases, no shootings.
Great reaction video. The actor who did the electrocution torture of Riggs was also in Die Hard, he was one of the bad guys. He was the one who took the candy bar out of the glass case when the police were trying to breach the doors.
Arguably the best Action Movie franchise ever, especially given the levels of heart and humour it delivers. I would also highly recommend the rest of the series, even more action and way more laughs.
The OC buddy cop movie. Few have the chemistry that these two had. And sure, we came to see action scenes and bullets flying, but we stayed for the character development and watch these two become a family.
On the day my mother died I went for a walk. I passed a park where a child’s birthday party was taking place. I had a bit of insight. Here I was in morning for my mother and these children are having the time of there life. When you are having the best day ever, someone else is having the worst day ever. The inverse is also true. When you are having the worst day ever, someone is having the best day ever. So if you are having a good day, don’t let these facts get in the way of your happiness. Especially if you can’t do anything to help the ones having a bad day. You’ll have you own bad day some time later, so enjoy the good days. Like the song says, everybody hurts sometimes.
Yes! Please do Braveheart! Had no idea you had not done this one. Bring lots of tissues.... "The Patriot" is another Mel Gibson film that will require tissues and makes for a great reaction video.
One of the best Buddy Cop Action Comedy Films ever made! Before Mel Gibson was cast as Martin Riggs, Sylvester Stallone, William Hurt, Michael Biehn Robert DeNiro, Christopher Reeve, Al Pacino, Nicolas Cage, Bruce Willis, Patrick Swayze, Christopher Lambert (Lamb bear), Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell, Michael Nouri, Charlie Sheen, Harrison Ford, Mickey Rourke, Nick Nolte, Matthew Broderick Sean Penn, Michael Douglas, Val Kilmer, Tom Cruise, Jeff Bridges, Alec Baldwin, Tom Selleck, John Travolta, Liam Neeson, Dennis Quaid, Pierce Brosnan and James Belushi were considered. Before Danny Glover was cast as Roger Murtaugh, Brian Dennehy, Nick Nolte, Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Duvall, and Al Pacino were considered. Before David Bowie was cast as Joshua, David Bowie, James Woods, Christopher Walken, John Lithgow, John Saxon, Stephen Lang, Ron Perlman, Keith Carradine, Scott Glenn, and Tommy Lee Jones were considered. Before Mitchell Ryan played the Villainous Gen McAllister Peter Boyle, Robert Duvall, Bruce Dern, James Earl Jones, Lee Marvin, and Richard Jordan were considered. Shane Black's original 1985 script was a lot darker and violent than the movie: The Sniper scene in the Director's Cut, there was one dead kid on a gurney, and Riggs, rather than shoot the sniper with his Beretta, he blows up the guy with a rocket launcher, and the draft ended with a helicopter chasing Joshua, who fires a napalm missile at it, causing the helicopter to crash into the Hollywood Sign. Murtaugh kills Gen McAllister while he is driving a trailer truck filled with heroin which crashes and explodes over the Hollywood Hills, raining over the burning Hollywood Sign like snow. Riggs kills Joshua by ripping out his eyes with his fingers. Riggs was an assassin trained by the CIA and had been mentally unstable since the Vietnam War ended. Murtaugh accidentally killed a fellow soldier in training with his bare hands before he left to fight in Vietnam.
Lovely reaction as always Mary. Lethal Weapon is one of the few series, where they kept up the quality at a very high level until the last one. Ofc everybody has their own favorite, but if you like the first one, you can't really go wrong with the others. My personal favorite is the 2nd one, the main topic is at least as serious as in this one, still the managed to ramp up the humor, making it even more fun and easy to watch.
Immerse yourself into an action movie, Mary. For Mel Gibson, check out Mad Max: The Road Warrior, Gallipoli, Air America, and Forever Young. For Danny Glover: Predator 2. For Gary Busey: Predator 2, and The Buddy Holly Story. For the girl who jumped off the balcony: she was Woody Harrelson's girlfriend, then (spoilers) fiancée, then wife, on Cheers. Please react to Lethal Weapon 2, 3, and 4. Lethal Weapon 5 starts shooting this year, with Gibson directing. The previous director, Richard Donner, also did Superman and half of Superman II.
THE "Buddy Cop" movie that defined a genre, such a classic! Fun Fact: This was the first movie to show a cell phone on screen (That big box with a wired phone attached to it that Roger uses)
Theres a really goofy parody of 'Lethal Weapon' called 'Loaded Weapon'. It has Samuel L Jackson and Emilio Estevez as long as a bunch of other cool cameos. You might like it given its a lot lighter and funny and goofy. No gore or over the top violence. Keep safe Mary ;)
Awesome reaction! Still one of my favorite action movies. Glover and Gibson make an awesome team and the rest of the series that I've seen (I've only seen the first three, so those are all I know) is great. 😀 Mel Gibson's scene at the beginning of the movie was soul-crushing for me as a teen when this was new. Holidays can be so difficult for people, and having lost his wife to a tragedy just makes it so much worse. He really did a great job acting for that, and I gained a whole lot of respect for him as an actor there.
This might be the "best" scene of the movie, in term of acting and story telling. Maybe one of the bests scenes ever in cinema. Mel Gibson is in my top tier list of actors.
When Mike Hunsacker says "You owe me!", he's referring to the Battle of Ia Drang: it was the first real battle between American and North Vietnamese forces. Oddly, Mel Gibson did an outstanding film about that, titled "We Were Soldiers", based on the true story of that battle. The tattoo is a dagger through a heart...I forget what it says around it, though. Oh, a friend of mine used to live in that apartment building that Amanda jumped off of.
Great reaction Mary. Please watch 2, 3 and 4. You grow to love the characters and their relationships almost as if they are part of your own family. They all have great action and some of the funniest moments. Take care.
You can’t watch just one of these movies. There’s a whole narrative and character growth and each movie builds on the foundation of the previous movie. It might seem like a buddy cop action packed series and nothing else, but it’s ultimately about bonding and finding a place where you belong and a family that accepts you and makes you a better person. It’s really great. All four movies are worth it.
For most action movies there’s a bit of a need to suspend disbelief a bit and just kind of enjoy the movie for what it is. Also, Lethal Weapon 2, 3, and 4. All I recommend highly.
The Last Samurai is the one set in Japan, Braveheart is the one in space with the robot and I believe a space dinosaur, been a while since I've seen it, I may have missed some things.
I am sure others have said it, but "suspend disbelief" is the phrase you are looking for. There were TV shows my wife and I watched that we had to have a rule not to complain about something, because if we started, we would stop watching it. "How did it get dark that fast?", "How did he happen to be there?", it is a slippery slope
But there are limits. You, as the viewer, should be expected to understand the convention of the story, an action story especially (a barrage of bullets don't kill the hero in the first 15 minutes, no joints get sprained after spectacular jumps and falls). But there are points of narrative expedience or just flat-out lazy filmmaking, which may blur the lines of movie and reality.
So funny fact there is a line in the movies about how Michael Hundsacker worked for an outfit called Air America, 3 years later Mel Gibson starred in that movie and it is an excellent movie should be added to the list. These are Mel Gibson movies I recommend: All of the Lethal Weapons, Air America, The Man Without A Face, Maverick, Braveheart, Ransom, Conspiracy Theory, Payback, The Patriot, What Women Want, and We Were Soldiers.
If you like the first one, all four Lethal Weapon movies are good, which is a rare thing. Mel Gibson's given so many enjoyable performances it's hard to choose them, though the original Mad Max trilogy comes to mind. But he's also directed a few without starring in them: Apocalypto and Hacksaw Ridge in particular.
Last Samurai was an American fighting for the old ways in Japan. Brave Heart was an American acting like a Scot fighting for the old ways of Scotland. pretty much the same flick.
I believe the expression you are trying to remember is suspension of disbelief. There are 4 Lethal Weapon movies, and they are all pretty good, fun movies. There's also a TV series, but I never watched it.
One of Mr. Gibson's early movies is worth seeing, Mary... based on a novel by the great Colleen McCullough who's most famous for THE THORN BIRDS. It's called TIM (1979). It's about a worker with cognitive issues who falls in love with an older woman, one of the people who hires him for odd jobs. As you can imagine, the townsfolk think it's a predatory situation... but it's really beautiful. It was remade under the title MARY & TIM (1996), which was good, too... but that one was made-for-tv, so more difficult to find, I imagine. #MoviesWithMary
I honestly like all of the Lethal Weapon movies. They all have a good story, great chemistry, comic relief, and are action-packed. I hope you watch them all, and I vote for you to see Braveheart as well. Yeah, Lethal Weapon 1 is technically a Christmas movie, but if you really like Mel Gibson and want to see him in a Christmas movie, next year during the holidays, watch the movie "Fatman," in which he plays Chris Kringle. But, it's like no traditional Christmas story you ever saw. It's more like Lethal Weapon.
It's a little known fact that police can participate in a 1v1 duel to the death if the commanding officer on the scene takes full responsibility for it.
“I need a break from law and craziness. I know, I’ll watch Lethal Weapon!” 😁 Yup, you’ve got to watch the rest of the Lethal Weapons now, Mary. There’s so much moody sax music that you’ve got to experience!
Gibson is my favorite actor right now. My favorite movies with him are: We were Soldiers (based off a true story) and Patriotic (loosely based off history). A lot of folks really like Braveheart. I didn’t, probably because I’m too familiar with the source material.
So many miss what happens in the diner after the jump, or miss the significance of it. In his trailer at the beginning, Riggs is thinking about pulling the trigger. When Murtaugh hands him his gun, he actually pulls the trigger. If Murtaugh hadn't stuck his finger in the trigger, Riggs would've killed himself.
That's so funny. You do a reaction video to recover from a difficult week and I watch a rection video (you) to recover from a difficult work-week. It's a win-win situation. Thanks Ms. Mary.
The ability to get caught up into a film is suspension of disbelief. You just go for the ride and have fun instead of noticing that when they jumped off the building their plastic handcuffs broke and they held hands on the way down.
28:55 Yes, please watch them all. Its a great series of movies that gets lighter-hearted as they go on. There is 4 in total. The 4th one ends so well. Yes same actors, and no, only this one for xmas haha
Mary, some movies to watch when you just want to have fun. "City Slickers" has Billy Crystal and the guy who played his best friend from When Harry Met Sally. You'll like it. "Crocodile Dundee." Lots of fun. "Dirty Dancing" is just a nice movie all around. "Steel Magnolias" is a lot of fun because of the cast, but it does have some heavy parts in it. Really worth watching. "Meet Joe Black" is one of my favorite movies with an interesting story. "The Hudsucker Proxy" is a movie you can watch again and again. "Dave" is a fun movie. "How to Train your Dragon" is great. All three are really well done and a lot of fun to watch. Best wishes.
Gud day to you mary here's some movies that might cheer you up...Loaded Weapon (samuel jackson emilio estevez)...Hot Shots part 2 (charlie sheen)...any Mr. Bean series.
Most fans don't see Lethal Weapon as a Christmas movie, but a movie set during Christmas time. Which is opposite of how many see Die Hard, where Christmas is much more a character in the movie. Yes, continue watching the series. And most definitely yes, watch Brave Heart.
A lot of people reacting to this seem to miss the point in the final fight, that both of them are from the same special forces and it's some kind of long-running championship that they are fighting over.
28:07 Suspension of disbelief. As said by Sharon Stone's character in the movie Basic Instinct. And are you even thinking of not watching the rest of the Lethal Weapon movies, are you kidding? The whole lot of them are fantastic!
There are 4 of these movies. And yes, I think you should watch all of them. Only this one is a Christmas movie. The others not so much, so you are good. I'm looking forward to LW2 because I want to find something out about you seeing as you speak Dutch. I won't go further than that.
That first dinner with Roger’s family is underrated as to how important it is in Riggs’ mental and emotional recovery. That’s probably his first real happy laughter since his wife died.
I love how they connect that scene in sequel.
At its core, this movie is very dark, but it also has enough humor and solid characters to give it some real heart.
Shane Black was 21 when he wrote it. This was the re-written version because it was "Too Dark" originally, think about that for a minute.
1st one was dark than LW 2 thru 4 was action comedy.
There are four movies in the franchise (so far), and in my opinion, all of them are a lot of fun, and they maintain the spirit of the first. Great reaction, as usual, take care, be safe!
And they continue a great story progression that many (even other great sequels) just don't.
I almost had a mini heart attack... I thought you said "there four more movies..." I was like "WAIT!!! DID I MISS ONE?!!" Hahahaha
@@hulkslayer626 There may be another, according to recent rumors by Gibson, and to be honest, I'd watch. :)
Yes. Watch Lethal Weapon #2, #3, and #4. They are all different, but the same in a good way. Great story and characters.
Yes, for all 3 following films. It's done like a continuation of them being partners and connecting on a whole other level. You will enjoy them.
LONG KISS GOODNIGHT
KISS KISS BANG BANG
THE NICE GUYS (please do this one!)
He has a thing for weirdly dark stories set during Christmas-- it's kind of his trademark.
I love the man.
Lethal Weapon is one of my all time favorite movie series. I feel like each movie is just a little bit better than the last, and by the end you feel like part of the family.
The "add-ons" and the character development is great. It's almost like the cop items are incidental to the family bonding story throughout.
I love these two. They mesh so beautifully, and it's pure joy seeing them together. I'm so grateful that was not lost in the following films.
All of the series is great. The chemistry between Glover and Gibson is fantastic. Glad you enjoyed it.
That sax 🎷 is one of the best parts. It Had really great comedic timing!
You've got to love an 80s action flick where the "epic finale" is the last half of the movie.
After you watch the second film, then you're ready for National Lampoon's "Loaded Weapon".. Which is a comedy spoof..
All of Gibsons movies are great. I recommend "The Patriot", "We Were Soldiers", and "Mad Max". Three excellent movies.
This movie was written by Shane Black. Shane has a habit of making almost all of his scripts play around Christmas.
Mary, I appreciate your vulnerability in talking about how you evolved as a person viewing action movies.
"I forgot to write me paper"
Yeah, I feel we have all been there at one point or another, lol!
I hope it went well!
The term for getting into a story and not worrying about realism or potholes is "Suspension of Disbelief."
Suspension of Disbelief is very important to enjoying an action movie, yes. 😁
"I'm too old for this shit" One of the most iconic lines in action movies history 😎
So glad you enjoyed it. Even though they're action movies, this series is all about the friendship and family. I hope you'll watch the rest!
Absolute action classic. Not just for the action, but it would be nothing without the great characters, and that awesome dialogue.
Also that sax 🎷
@@cmondontbekrasssy551 - Sidenote - Another reason why I love the movie The Other Guys, cause they knew to throw that sax riff in there.
All 4 are great, if nothing else, because of the greatest cast chemistry in movie history-
Here's a useful piece of advice from a film called "The Big Chill": Sometimes you just have to let art... flow... over you.
It's a great movie abut a group of friends that get together for a weekend due to a funeral. Full of good music and conversations, no car chases, no shootings.
Lethal Weapon is the type of series where I enjoy every movie. All the sequels.
Action movies require suspension of disbelief. Most movies require that, but especially action movies.
Yes, DO BRAVEHEART!!
"I'm sick of law for a second..."
*watches buddy-cop movie
😜
The OC buddy cop movie. Few have the chemistry that these two had. And sure, we came to see action scenes and bullets flying, but we stayed for the character development and watch these two become a family.
Classic action movies are like musicals: Literal-mindedness will kill the buzz. You got the swing of it this time around.
You absolutely need to react to Braveheart!
This is the first time I have actually heard you curse such a bad girl , “I like it “
Braveheart 👍 A must watch.
On the day my mother died I went for a walk. I passed a park where a child’s birthday party was taking place.
I had a bit of insight. Here I was in morning for my mother and these children are having the time of there life.

Yes! Please do Braveheart! Had no idea you had not done this one. Bring lots of tissues.... "The Patriot" is another Mel Gibson film that will require tissues and makes for a great reaction video.
One of the best Buddy Cop Action Comedy Films ever made!

Please react to Lethal Weapon 2, 3, and 4. Lethal Weapon 5 starts shooting this year, with Gibson directing. The previous director, Richard Donner, also did Superman and half of Superman II.
"A lot of cars were hurt in the making of this movie." "MMMMM ... is that pancakes?" . Made my day. LOL
You will love Braveheart!
Awesome reaction! Still one of my favorite action movies. Glover and Gibson make an awesome team and the rest of the series that I've seen (I've only seen the first three, so those are all I know) is great. 😀
Mel Gibson's scene at the beginning of the movie was soul-crushing for me as a teen when this was new.
You always do a great job of reacting to movies and not trying to predict them. Thank you!
Braveheart is a must, and Gallipoli an Australian war movie with a very young Mel Gibson is also excellent.
Great reaction Mary. Please watch 2, 3 and 4. You grow to love the characters and their relationships almost as if they are part of your own family. They all have great action and some of the funniest moments. Take care.
Yep! Definitely watch all 4 movies! They have a great vibe!!! You'll love them!!
Braveheart is a big yes! Gibson also directed that one.
Hi Mary👋🏽, I enjoyed your reaction to lethal weapon One of my favorite Danny Glover's movies. Hope you're having the best 2023 Mary ! ❤
I lost my girlfriend of 37 years last year.. I understand Riggs better now than I ever did and I wish I didn't..
One thing I really like about this movie that a lot of people overlook is the original music. I wish it was more common.
The whole series is funny. Gets more over the top, but hey, can be fun too ;-)
"Shoot him in the leg"
You're so cute. 🤣
Second one is even better. So happy you started these. There are 4 in the series and I've heard they're making a fifth. Please keep watching them!
Glad you enjoyed the film, Mary. I appreciate how you've grown as a movie watcher!

Hope you'll do all 4 parts. Each one is a good movie worthy of reaction!
Interesting story, when this movie was released the lady warning that Riggs wS suicidal was the "bad" guy.
Last Samurai was an American fighting for the old ways in Japan. Brave Heart was an American acting like a Scot fighting for the old ways of Scotland. pretty much the same flick.
You will love ALL four of these!!!
Watch em all. It’s one of the few action series that really works. Thanks to Richard Donner the director of all the movies.
I think you'll enjoy the second one, too. All 4 are entertaining, but I think the second is best.
It's a little known fact that police can participate in a 1v1 duel to the death if the commanding officer on the scene takes full responsibility for it.
“I need a break from law and craziness. I know, I’ll watch Lethal Weapon!” 😁
Yup, you’ve got to watch the rest of the Lethal Weapons now, Mary. There’s so much moody sax music that you’ve got to experience!
I may get "im gettin too old for this @#$%" on my tombstone someday its a good line
I saw this in the movie theaters.Gary busy wa incredible too. I love being old haha 😂 these are classics best cop duo ever. ❤
Gibson is my favorite actor right now. My favorite movies with him are: We were Soldiers (based off a true story) and Patriotic (loosely based off history). A lot of folks really like Braveheart. I didn’t, probably because I’m too familiar with the source material.
"Suspending disbelief" might be the concept you´re referring to at the end there.
Since you've done Lethal Weapon, you have to do the other THREE movies.....yes....the next THREE! And do watch Braveheart as well!!
ALL 4 of these are perfect! Part 4 is my favorite. Probably cuz i wuz born in 92
Yes please watch all 3 of them, they are all great
Mary, some movies to watch when you just want to have fun.
Braveheart is one of my all time favorites; it's a must watch!
The expression you are looking for is "suspension of disbelief".
