No, I don't believe so. You cannot hear the audio via Bluetooth in the F3 app. That would be a nice feature.

Great! Thank you for the thorough review! Good that you describe the connectivuty issues. I am wondering: if the phone turns off the screen and goes inte lock mode (automatically after some time), dose the app lose connectionto the f3 then?
Good question. I'm using an Android tablet, and I haven't experienced those issues. It could be the way I have my screen timeout settings, or perhaps the F3 app prevents the phone from going to sleep. I've always kept the app open and running while using the recorder, even for some extended periods.

Thanks for the video. Does the bta1 allow you to transfer data to a phone or computer?
I don't believe so. I too have thought that would be a cool feature, although Bluetooth isn't a very fast transfer protocol so it would take some time to move those files. The BTA-1 gives you all of the controls remotely, but doesn't do file transfers as far as I'm aware.
I haven't purchased the F3 recorder yet Barry. So when I do, I will record my raw classical guitar with my 2 stereo condenser mics plugged into the F3 recorder w(phantom power) Then I guess I can take the SD card and put it through Logic Pro to doctor the recording as I hear it. I hope this is the way to get my best sound. Does the F3 come with the SD card as well? What about a power adapter if you don't want to deal with the batteries? Thanks for the BT-1 suggestion...Steve
Hi Steve! The F3 works really well for me, so I think it would be a great choice.
It does not come with a memory card, but that's inexpensive. I included a link in the video description to the micro-SD card that I'm using. I'm using a 128gb card, With my settings that offers well over 100 hours of recording time.
You could remove the card from the unit, and read it with a card reader, or just connect a usb-c cable from your computer to the F3 recorder and set the recorder to USB/storage and it looks like a disk device in your computer that you can copy the files from. The recordings are stored as wav files.
It uses a pair of AA batteries, and rechargeable batteries will last me for a session. If it detects power available on its usb port, it will use that instead of the batteries internally.
If you don't want to worry about the AA batteries, I use a usb-c cable to a phone battery power bank, and that lasts a very long time.

Another option would be to use a phone wall charger with usb-c to plug the device in, but I like running on batteries because there's less chance of any kind of electrical interference noise/buzz getting into the recording, although I think the F3 has pretty good filtering.

@@Barry-Watson Hi Barry, Just when I was getting ready to purchase the F3. I remembered that they lowered the price before from $349. to $299. So I was wondering why they lowered the price now even further to $267.34. I saw they are now offering the Zoom R4 Multi-track Field Recorder w/ 32-bit float at $199. Do you think that would be the better choice for recording classical guitar? Looks to me like the R4 does everything and more than the F3. Your thoughts? Thanks, Steve
From what I see... The F3 is a better recorder, it's built better, it has better (quieter) mic preamps, and higher sample rates available. It does lack the R4 built in effects, and the ability to mix 4-tracks etc.
So, I'd say for "pro" use, or serious recording, the F3 is the better choice, but for musicians who want a "porta-studio" device, the R4 looks great. I'm not jazzed about the plastic construction of the R4, one of the things I appreciate about the F3 is that it's a solid little metal brick, it's tiny, and just feels quality. The F3 can also be easily slipped on your belt if you want to wander about with it.
I'm sure you could get decent recordings with either unit, but the better specs and better build quality of the F3 would make it the choice for me. I do all of my mixing, and adding effects and so forth on the computer DAW afterwards, so those features in the R4 would not be important to me.
@@Barry-Watson Well Barry, I've purchased the F3 Recorder, ( love it ) The Zoom BTA-1bluetooth adapter, battery power pack, rechargeable batteries and a rechargable battery charger, 128 bit SD card w/adapter and the handy clamp that screws on the F3. I've also downloaded the Zoom F3 APP. I've recorded one 5 minute piece on the recorder and can play it back on my headphones. ( love it ). I am having difficulty navigating from the menu on the iPhone screen. I can't seem to find the USB STORAGE MODE or USB Transfer mode on my phone menu. I wonder if you could give me directions on how to send the recording to my computer. You mention a USB-C cable (don't think I have one) plugged into the unit to my Apple Mac. Does the USB-C also double as a direct power source for the F3 as well? I guess I need to purchase a USB-C cable, but which one? As you have 2 different ones, USB-C to USB-A or USB-C to USB-C. Basically, I'm trying to get my recording into Logic Pro so I can play around with the recording. Not that I know how to do that, but I'm a determined 70 year old on a mission and I'm hoping you can help me get off the ground. I'm starting to get some money tide up here and I haven't even got to the camera video portion of syncing sound and video together yet. Hi Barry, Do you think if I run 2 XLR cables from the F3 to my Scarlett 2i2 XLR ports that I could transfer the recording to Logic Pro that way? I better ask, I don't want to short out any devices. If so, should I press 48v phantom power button when trying it this way? Thanks!

I don't have the Zoom H3, so I can't speak from experience, but it appears to me that the H3 control software is only available on Apple IOS. I don't see an Android version of the H3 control software available for this unit (yet).
The zoom F3 recorder, on the other hand does have software available for both Apple IOS, or Android devices.
I don't think the remote control software is particularly demanding so an inexpensive prior generation iPhone or iPad may be perfectly sufficient for a remote control device.
