People very often tend to forget that there's more to an artist than just sounding great. Daughtry took an existing song, put his voice in it, and nothing more. It takes A LOT to make a GOOD song from scratch. It's so easy for people to say "Daughtry's version is better", but the coverer does 5% of the work, and still get ranked above the original artist.
Evanescence is my favorite band and I didn't think anyone could even hope to adequately cover this song but Chris hit it out of the park and tore the leather off the ball! I'm not shocked by this though. Chris Daughtry is by far the best male vocalist in the industry. Not an opinion, straight up fact!

As much as I love the Evanessence original, this version has so much raw emotion to it. You can hear the pain in his voice which makes it all hit just that little bit harder. He made a cleaner version of this for his album but this live version will always remain supreme in my opinion as it shows so much passion and makes you almost sympathize and feel sorry for him.
I think his version is way better than Amy's. Chris' version doesn't have a dark spirit like Amy Lee's did. Instead it showed more of the internal struggle that Judas had

Chris Daughtry's version is more intense in emotion while Evanescence's is sort of softer, sadder, and bittersweet. Both are excellent. I like Chris Daughtry's better though.

Chris is amazing!! He really needs to think about getting involved in a Broadway Musical, one that is emotionally fueled and passionate; much like how this Passion Play was. It really blew me away and felt his performance resonate in my heart. I was nearly brought to tears over his part as Judas...

What I love about the passion is how they gave each of the characters more story to tell just by a song ( Example; Demons, With Arms Wide Open ) this song is one of my favorites and has been since I was in elementary school, I'm now going to be a senior in high school and love the song more than before. Prior to this scene, Jesus (JenCarlos) tells all his disciples that he knows he will be betrayed and who will betray him. Judas (Daughtry) had already accepted silver coins as payment to show the Temple guards who to arrest. Jesus knew he was coming and could have but did not stop his own arrest. The concept of this scene from "The Passion" is that Judas (Daughtry) knows what he is doing is very wrong and he wants Jesus to stop him before everything becomes too late. He's asking Jesus to reach into his life and save him from his own evil inside. In the later song "Demons", a duet with JenCarlos, Daughtry sings about the fact that Judas knows his own "Kingdom Come" is the human kingdom of darkness and not the heavenly Kingdom of Jesus Christ. Judas later left the disciples of Jesus and went off by himself and died. Whatever he did to kill himself was significant enough to those who were left behind that they named the place where Judas had died as Akeldama or "Field of Blood".

Wow! I have always thought he was an amazing singer from day one! He is so underestimated as a singer. He has so much heart, soul and passion in his music. You can feel everything he puts into his music. He has gotten me through so many situations with his music. The actual music and lyrics are brilliant!

Wow! I have always thought he was an amazing singer from day one! He is so underestimated as a singer. He has so much heart, soul and passion in his music. Hearing this version from Daughtry? Specifically just him?? I’m blown away because he is an amazing artist. Yes originals are better but the song itself is about more than the artist. I love this version just as much as I love the original. He keeps surprising me every day and I love both bands equally ❤️❤️❤️
