    I know many wood workers hate power tools but it helps to have an impact drill for this situation. Its a blessing when making big holes bigger than an inch

    I love it! I’m a hobbist woodworker and a an espresso lover, but I haven’t thought about connecting those passions and building this, weekend project for me! Big thank you for inspiration

    Wright!
    Very fine, Friend.
    Espresso making -- like wood Working -- is a fine Art...; like the oft heard of, ancient Japanese Tea ceremonies.
    The 'Artisian' gets involved in the processes to the point where the Work IS Them, and They are "The Work".

    oo one think i see as a really simple and useful wooden thing to make is a scale cover. essentially a thin bench hook shaped piece that protects ur scale from heat and syrupy espresso spills. and some people add a small ledge to one side so u can flip it on the scale and measure the weight into ur portafilter without having to fumble around and balance in on the scale plate. i made myself a small bean cellar so i can weigh out every dose ahead of time. also keeps beans fresh.

      That is a good I deal. I have been using the rubber one that came with the scale.

    I like the screen slot. I'll also need an extra hole for my WDT (wire distribution tool) Needs to be 3" Deep to fully hold the wires.

    Nice crema on that brew! Next thing you need is proper Coffee cups... Double walled glass is the way to go. Oh, and nice Espresso Buddy too

    When putting big holes in Aust. hard woods, I have used a socket breaker bar with a bit adapter. Still hard work. Impact bit driver does the best job of big holes in really hard woods IMHO.

    Really beautiful work, James! 😃
    It wouldn't make sense for me to make one, because my espresso machine does it all, you just need to press a button. 😬
    BUT... I may adapt the idea for something else!
    Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

    You should build an adjustable rest for your drills?

    If only we lived in the same state...would have been happy to lend you access to my drill press for those monster holes. There is a lot I do with hand tools, but that is the one area where power sometimes is the only way I have.

    aye love when my fav youtubers have the same hobbies as me. well i work as a barista but close enough. if you want some really good youtubers to learn espresso making from i'd recommend james hoffman. he has a playlist series on understanding all the variables involved. lance hedrick also has some great videos on the basics of dialling in espresso. kyle roswell is also a good source of info. there is a huge community of coffee enthusiasts here on youtube and they all have some great free content.

    James, your hopper needs a kickstand for the handle. You can mortice it into the main block. And come on... no carving? It needs some coffee plant and the word "Esspresso" across the front of the block, and coffee plant winding over the front edge onto the top and sides.
    Everyone else; Call me a barbarian if you wish, but I still prefer a good ole percolator cup of regular coffee with a little creamer and sugar. But I'd do mix my own blend of selected beans and grind them. Store bought ground coffee is too fine for a percolator. You just get a richer cup from the percolator running the hot coffee back through the grounds as it gets stronger, NO paper filter robbing you of the essential oils and flavor. You adjust the strength by how much coffee you put into the "basket", or by how long you brew it on a cooktop/fire. It is a science experiment to find your preferred blend and brew amount/time. But once you do, it is easy to repeat for the perfect cup every time. And, you have several cups depending on the size of your percolator and cup/mug. (Just adjust the burner to keep it warm and not continuously boiling, or it just keeps getting stronger.)

    • @thomasarussellsr
      @thomasarussellsr Рік тому

      P.S. a Kurig or drip maker takes most of the adjustability out of it and you are stuck with someone else's ideal cup, especially with those pods.

    that's a cute station, but it seems twice as thick as it needs to be, and the handle could maybe sit in a tough in the wood instead of hanging out the side like that... it would both lower the amount of space the buddy needs on the counter, and keep that tool from tipping out like it is in the closing shot...

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  Рік тому +1

      I could make it about 1/2" thinner but not much more then that. the portafilter sits on the three lugs so if it were in a trough that would make it not balance well when tamping. the portafilter does not get stored in the buddy it is only there for tamping.
