this is a simple set of shelves that can be scaled up and down to fit your needs from a full-sized book case to something small like a curio shelf.

Questions, comments, snide remarks. You stole my line! 😊
Nothing like a simple curio display made with hand tools. The sounds of planes and hand saws never gets old. Nice one!
Thanks, James.
I have a collection of classic Corgi model cars and this looks like it could be a great way to display them.
much merit working with that hard wood. Nice James.... please go deeper in the "favors" thing. Love'em!!!
Nice work James. Oak looks like so much fun to work with. Curious, if you took a picture of you holding it would it be a shelfie?
Like the cabinet and your miniatures
Amazing, James! Beautiful work! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Very Nice Work!!!! What If You Took & Put Vintage Pictures On The Back!!!! Clear Front Cover Protector From Dust!!! Thanks James!!! 👏👍😎
Cool! Many ways of doing things. I like your attention to detail, especially with the dove tails. Fabulous! By the way, how do you keep your chisels so nice and sharp? Do you sharpen them yourself? If so, could you show us how?
I'm sharpen them quite regularly. Usually once or twice a project depending upon how big the project is. I have quite a few videos on how to sharpen chisels and planes of all different types. With the right tools it's a relatively quick and simple thing. Usually only about 30 seconds to a minute.
@@WoodByWright Thank you. I'm going to have to find those videos.
Cool project.
Nice build! 👍👍
I think you could have spiced it up with some purple heart and some epoxy! Hear me out here, James: Live edge river shelves! :p
Very good work, Love it.
Those look very similar to the miniature tools over on Jim Bode's site. As for what you can do to spice it up... why not do some knot work on the facing edges or put in some unnecessary exotic wood inlays.
I didn't really see any thicknessing of individual components. I guess that was off camera?
I think some sort of carved ornate piece across the top would look cool.
I have been thinking of building a library set and this looks the ideal method. can you put a rebate in the back panel similar to the sides to discourage shelf bow under weight for 3ft shelves ?
If your back panel were thicker you could do that but the small shelf generally is not considered a good idea as the shelf can easily pop out of that dado. And you don't want to glue the back to the shelf as the back will need to move. Generally to stiffen a shelf you put a lip along the front that hangs down a little bit lower than the shelf. Kind of acting as a rib to stiffen the shelf.
@@WoodByWright thanks and noted.
I'm sorry i'm new to hand tool wood working. May I ask why you test the edges of the boards with your fingers before and after planing ? What info does that provide ? Thank you :)
I am sorry I am not sure what you are referring to. do you have a time stamp?
@@WoodByWright 7:50/52 thank you !
It looks like he is feeling how close he is to his scribe line, once he cant feel an edge anymore he knows its done
The active line leaves a thin strip when you get close to it. You can feel it and when you get to the line it disappears.
Any plans to do a glass door for that cabinet?
I thought about doing that but decided not to as some of these I actually use
Great!
👍👍👍👍
It’s hard to find a free old wooden desk by the curve. I’ve come across with lots of ikea (don’t look down on ikea stuff, I’ve used them to build jigs)
i have found that to be more dependent on the naborhoods I look through.

snide REMARK!!!
I’m no Aussie but here’s a comment down under. 🙃

NGL, everytime he dips his fingers in that jar, I look for a different video. It's like anti ASMR! LOL! Everything else is cool though!
What's not to like about hand applied homemade boiled linseed oil? One of the greatest feelings ever.
Des étagères plus épaisses que les traverses ?! Strange 😂
They are the same thickness. I talk about that a bit more on the other channel where I go into see how and why of it.
@@WoodByWright thanks for your reply
Before you start I’ll guess white oak?
How did you know!
14:17 - What was that wood stain you used? Usually people wear gloves and use brushes... you just went bare hands!
Cheers!
That is Home made boiled Linseed Oil. When it's homemade it's safe enough you can handle or even drink if you really needed to fix some constipation. I generally stay away from stains unless the end user REALLY wants it.
