Season Four - Episode Nine: "Bug"
    Episode Description:
Walt (Bryan Cranston) struggles to subvert Hank's (Dean Norris) homegrown investigation, while a deadly warning forces Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) to consider a deal. Meanwhile, Skyler's (Anna Gunn) plans to run a legitimate business are stalled.
    Episode Overview:
After retrieving the tracking device they placed on Gus’ car, Walt and Hank are puzzled to find that he apparently drove only between his home and his office. So, as Skyler suggests they devise a plan to get out of the drug trade now that their car wash is close to making a profit, Walt’s concerns lead him to put a GPS tracker on Jesse’s car, too. But when Hank suspects that Gus is using his farm to run his drug empire, Walt warns Mike that trouble may on its way.
In the wake of Walt’s warning, Mike oversees Jesse and a team of workers as they clean the farm of any hints of the drugs that have been hidden inside. However, as Jesse is pressing Mike for information about what Gus has in mind for Walt’s brother-in-law, a sniper opens fire. And as Mike risks his own life to save Jesse, Gus walks directly into the gunman’s sights, confident that the cartel won’t kill him. Meanwhile, Skyler’s plans for turning the car wash into a legitimate business are threatened when her former boss Ted Beneke is investigated for tax evasion. Though reluctant at first, Skyler shows up at the audit to convince the investigator that her ignorance of accounting led to Ted’s problem. But after Skyler says that this is all she can do to help him avoid jail, Ted makes it clear that he still doesn’t have the money to settle the case.
Although he balks at disposing of a worker killed during the sniper attack, Walt thinks twice when Mike warns that he could be next. While meeting to inquire about what Gus has in store for Hank and to plead for Walt’s life, Jesse again fails to use the opportunity to kill Gus with the poisoned cigarette that Walt prepared. And when asked if he’s capable of cooking meth without his partner, Jesse learns that Gus is sending him to Mexico to share their recipe with the cartel. Finally, when Jesse tries to warn him of the plan, Walt angrily accuses him of backing out of their deal to kill Gus. And after the two partners end up in a brutal fistfight, Jesse orders Walt to leave and never come back.

Walter: the hippocampus of the brain actually is the reason why this soup tastes so good
Jesse: I dont know what the hell this is, but clearly you didnt cook just to have a 'chat'

Jesse: Well the hippocampus is largely responsible for learning and memory. For senses and taste it's more like the olfactory lobe or frontal cortex. So... yea...Bitch!!! You got that wrong!!! Science my ass.

The word “guileless” comes to mind more than “fearless.” Jesse just isn’t instinctually a “chess player” type. It doesn’t make him bad. But I wouldn’t say he’s brave in that particular context.

I mean to be fair. Walt did the same for Jesse on multiple occasions. Tuco tried to kill Jesse, Walt said Jesse was important and his partner. He killed those drug dealers to save Jesse. S4 Ep1 when he was telling Gus the many reasons why Gus shouldn't kill him, he quote "You kill me, you have nothing. You kill Jesse, you dont have me." Until the end of season 4, Walt showed Jesse more loyalty than anyone else.

One of the most important lessons that learns throughout both series of breaking bad is that Gus is one of the most patient men alive. He spent years planning his revenge on the salamancas and the cartel.
It might not have been 1 year or even 5 years, but eventually as soon as he found a new chemist who could replicate Jesse's process. He would have Jesse killed in cold blood maybe even with his family all for what he did to Gale and his plans in the beginning.

Unreal character development from the early Jesse who was shit scared of Tuco

    • @judah3035
      @judah3035 2 роки тому +2

Yo yyeaahhh B**** ........I did not mean to write that much you just helped me finish my character development puzzle I recreated in my head because I just finished binge watching the show.
Jesse wasn’t phased that was a key moment for me during rewatching the show and I was trying to read his face couldn’t determine how he was feeling he wasn’t phased. I remember he was looking back at Gus the way Gus was looking at them and Walter was horrified similar to how Jesse panicked with Tuco but Walter was more rational. When the true transition took place was in this scene Gus now has Jesse to break bread with symbolic for him giving trust companionship and peace for their future investment to move on. He didn’t want Jesse because he was an addict never trust an addict there a liability but later he saw something in him he saw what Walter should’ve became. He only accepted Jesse because Walter told him he does what he says and he trusts him. Walter became the addict he was always paranoid and his paranoia grew more and more where now he was the one using kids in his own way. If he would’ve just walked away when Gus said they were done that would’ve been the end of the show. Gus now gave Walter a chance like he did with Jesse. Gus shouldn’t have had to make that decision because Jesse should’ve been in Alaska remember when Jesse talked to Mike about what he’d do in his shoes and he said Alaska they both would’ve gotten off clean but Walter literally killed there chances. His paranoia/love took the last thing Jesse had in his life which was Jane/love. Jesse became so cold/empty he couldn’t connect with his friends when they decided to change Jane however understood that connection and would’ve led Jess to that place so really if Walter would’ve let Jane live that’d be the end. *What was the universe trying to tell him???* The conversation he had with Donald was a father to father moment and the advice he was given was to just love them. Walter let the last thing Jesse and Donald held onto that pertained to love die. Walter even said that was the start of it all when the plane crashed..no the start was when he chose death over life for someone who deserved life now he has the wrong perspective on life and his/Jesses choices from that moment on. He admitted to his addiction when he finally lost everything...that he stopped doing it for the family he did it because he liked it. Remember it’s because of him that Graymatter was a empire and now he was creating another empire and he didn’t want to lose that again. When he invited Jesse for dinner it was the opposite of Gus he wanted to show him everything he’s lost and now Jesses trying to take that away from him too. When in reality Walt took everything away from Jesse and because of that he created a chain of events that destroyed everything. Walt said the plane crash would’ve been the perfect time to die to keep his memory in tact. At the dinner table Jesse was reaching out in a since with just small talk he even mentioned his family a connection now broken. Just like when he reached out and asked if Walt wanted to ride go karts the next image he’s driving strung out but if Walt would’ve actually went opening up personally with him when he was hinting for some sort of strong family like connection he was empty and no one around him except Walt could relate with him so he had to look at Walt as “family” that’s why when they were in the hospital he talked to Walter like a son talking to a father that he’s not good enough and doesn’t care and then the father finally says your just as good as me and that hit home even made him cry but for the wrong reasons because they should’ve had a better bond an actual father son type relationship that could’ve developed into Los Pollos Hermanos but they never talked about personal life. Walt would’ve found out the good in Jane that she wasn’t some junkie and Jesse was the reason for her relapse and at the time they just needed love and support from family. Walt came back after the conversation with Donald with a fresh mind set of looking at Jesse like family. Instead he reacted with paranoia instead of love and he made a decision that all signs from the universe said he was wrong. Walt sitting there as a family was to blind to see that there was still good on the table and now Jesse was the one knocking at the door offering it. If your addicted to power and success in the wrong direction or the wrong reasons its far worse than any drug addiction. Last Walt refused to give up his addiction so the very place he started it all was the very place his family died.
Thanks if you read if not I just felt like writing God bless and hope you have a good one.

I would respectfully disagree about the Victor scene. I'd say he was phased a little bit, both of them were. I've rewatched the series several times and even though I know it's just a tv show, I am nonetheless more than a little disturbed every time I see that, along with Andrea's death later on. Totally agree about character development though, Jesse's story is actually even more compelling than Walt's.

I loved this scene. Contrasted with the dinner Gus shared with Walt, Walt was uncomfortable at first but accepted Gus' charade of being friendly and even admires how he runs his business and handles his subordinates, later emulating his behavior when he takes over the operation.
Jesse doesn't fall for it for one second. Gus is actually incapable of "handling" him in this scene. Jesse is completely comfortable and confident in his morals. He says it like it is. Gus tries to bring some of the charade back by warning Jesse that he is in Gus' home, but Jesse doesn't drop his combative stance. Sticks to his guns.
However, Gus knows this. Jesse can't be convinced to allow Walt's execution at this moment, it's going to take a lot longer, hence the alternate strategy of bringing him closer into the fold. Get him on Gus' team instead of Walt's, over time. Love the characterisation here.

So I'm thinking that at any moment, Gus is either going to try and kill Jesse, threaten him, or intimidate him...
Instead he invites him to dinner...even kind of gives him a walk-through of how its made. It goes to show how far ahead Gus thinks when he is strategizing...he knew _exactly_ how to get to Jesse. An angsty young man in desperate need for guidance - for a father...
Then when Jesse messes up again, he pairs him up with Mike to build that relationship there; so that by the time he takes Jesse with him to Mexico, he's definitely on his side.

the effects of drugs on people are the one thing i would have really liked to see in this show. jane was quite a good portrayal of addict behavior. it would have been interesting to see particularly what walt’s crystal does to the users more, it would have gone the extra mile to show how much of a monster he’d become as well.

He's demonstrates that (most of the time) he's good at moderating his own use. Addiction, and drug use in general, is not black and white.

What's heartbreaking with this scene is shows whats always been true: that Jesse is loyal to a fault to Walter but Walter, though he does care about Jesse, is too stubborn of a man to show it to Jesse.

Thier dialogue changes per episode Gus wanted Jesse dead or at the very least gone from Walts side but now it's quite the opposite.

Interesting how we assume Gus is asking this in order to off Walt, but in reality it's duality. He does want to off Walt but the Cartel wants to reproduce what Gus is doing in the North so Jesse is a good decoy to use for Gus's greater plan to wipe Eladio's crew. Plus it makes Jesse even more loyal to Gus. Brilliant.

Rewatching the show, it’s crazy how much Gus seems like the “good guy” of the show. He and Mike kinda cared about Jesse and he probably would’ve continued to make a lot of money with them if it wasn’t for walts ego.
