The dialogue for Caim and Angelus's death holds a lot more nuance in Japanese, imo. She asks "Is this enough now, Caim?" hinting at her jabs in the first game about how he was only living to kill the Empire and fulfill his revenge. It doubles as asking if they can both rest from battles, now. His response is still "It's enough. We're together." I think this was very solid review, the only part i disagree with is about nowe's dialogue in the final boss, nowe does need to shut up with the questions i agree most the game but for that fight i found it added to the tragedy the situation, it wasnt so much nowe asking questions but rather desperately pleading for some alternative way to avoid the conflict to no avail, like i dont see him asking legna the question "you raised me only to use me in the end" as a genuine question to the situation but a plea to legna that there be something more there than just a tool. Oh except for that stupid fucking line where he says if legna is charging up an attack, that breaks the flow full on Anyhow i stand drakengard 2 while probably my least favorite of the 4 games is still worth it solely cause when it actually hits a right note it really hits it high, id o genuinly believe the whole situation with caim in this game is one of the highest parts of the series and its kind of a shame the game doesnt keep it up like that after his death, i would have preferred eris staying dead for good as her getting retconned kind of took out the tragic flow the 2nd half of the game had and as you said the endings being literal powerpoint presentations is such a wtf moment it kind of ruins alot of things. Still as much of a mixed bag as it is i think its high points justify its existence. I always kind of wished both drakengard 1 and 2 would get remade, like having actual adventure to it and not just battle grounds to kill hordes of copy and paste enemies, i think it'd be a "joy" to actually travel through drakengard 1 on a frantic race to the seal when you actually traverse the environment or if draknegard 2 was basically nier in its rpg esque approach with towns and exploration of sorts. In all the 4 drakengard games really feel like they all were reaching for some real ambition but they were robbed of the budget they all so very much deserved. Welp nier automata will hopefully spell the end of that and if it does well i greatly look foreword to a brighter future for this series where it actually gets a proper budgeting. and for the record, your one of the better things ive gotten out of browsing 4chan, i dont know if it was you or someone else but the drakengard review got me pretty into your channel
sorry but I love that game. don't get me wrong I love and appreciate the dark, soul crushing, anti fantasy trope method of story telling that Tara is known for as much as the next pessimists but I also want a good and happy ending with a clear conclusion for at least most people too. I'm happy Manah found love and happiness, and come on that second ending with taking the war to the God's was badass and basically all I wanted from the first game. Dragons vs Baby demons let's go.
Hell yeah, I got referenced! Seriously though, this was a pretty good review. Touches on some things I didn't notice while still giving the 2nd game credit where it's due. I do enjoy Drakengard 3, though I'm not really a huge fan of its weird tone and themes. Can't wait to see the review soon!
I absolute fairness to Drakengard 2: the image of a swarm of divine dragons flying into battle against the gods themselves is pretty amazing. That could have been a game in its own right.
So...Legna is the reason Caim is a bloodthirsty psychopath with a love for murder and revenge because he murdered his parents in front of him. Do I have that right?
Well if you want to go there I think it goes like this. The world normalizes into sameish world like ours( dates differing by about couple of years ) and Caim ( branch E ) breaks quantum mechanics of the universe to end up in this branch. No happy endings.
I recently played through DoD2 myself and it feels like such a missed opportunity. There are good things here, good ideas and potential for great subversions of themes of the first game. Our protagonist is already in a loving (familial) relationship with our main dragin but ends up being used could honestly be such a cool subversion of the relationship between Caim and Angelus. Manah trying to atone but ultimately causing the very same disaster as before. Caim having to meet Legna and face the fact that he needs help from the same dragon that ruined his life for the sake of Angelus. Seeing Nowe as a remnant of Inuart and Furiae. Nowe being manipulated and used by the dragons just like Manah was being used by the watchers. If we got a bit more of the district guardians, seeing how the pacts eat away at the people making them (since apparently they are usually made by a beast's desire to just feed off of the partner's mysery). Seeing the Union who originally fought for good fall into almost the same depravity as the Empire as a result of the desperate attempt to fix the world but also just the bad blood due to the past events. And honestly, so much more, if only there was enough emphasis on those parts instead of some weird love triangle. There is *good* in this game, but the safe kiddy gloves execution and awful dialogue just kill this game entirely.
I must say, i really like Caim a lot more over Nowe as a...umm hero? Antihero? antagonist... (?) Caim is this force, power, always strong, not because he got some new breed stuff, not even because of the pack, because he was already crazily strong before the Angelus. And he did defeat Angelus after, even though i think she(he?) went easy on him. And Nowe... while a nice fellow, i guess, he feels weak and bit out of place, he would do a lot better as waitress at the cafe than going around slaying things.
waitresses don't ask questions. I think he'd should've went for a degree in philosophy, seems like a classic aristotle. plus he'd get rid of his dull sentimentality.
He's just like Luca Blight from Suikoden 2. No magical bullshit despite being in a world with it, no special bloodline traits, just a raging psychopath who is just absurdly resilient and skilled. And for that these 2 are some of my favorite characters in gaming.
If there is one thing I still really love about Drakengard one and two, it's the connection between Caim and Angelus. I especially like that they developed a romantic bond in a sense as well as the fact that Caim goes utterly insane without her. I guess part of why I like it is that it's very non-traditional. Usually the dragon is the obstacle and a human (or at least a human-like) being is the romantic partner. Not only is that flipped on its head, but it does so in a way that is still just as touching. There's something about the very idea of being willing to destroy the world just to see someone you hold dear one last time, even if it's but a fleeting moment, that I can't help but find beautifully tragic. Whether you love or hate the Drakengard games, you have to admit that they are unique if anything.
I think its implied that Manah had a pact with the Watchers but apparently no price was paid by her, and its a known fact that pact partners could hear other pact partner's voices, so that's how Caim "told" her she wasn't allowed to forget.
I know this comment was written 6 years ago but lol In the ending A of DoD1 Angelus says exactly that to Manah before she volunteers to become a seal. I'm pretty sure this was both hers and Caim's sentiment, and any further action from Caim in between the games reinforced that this was his belief, too. At least that's how I see it.
He keeps saying Nowe and all I can hear is Nowi. Nowe is not Nowi. Edit : "Caim manages to kill Death itself" YOU SAY THAT LIKE THAT WAS NOTH- wait last game we had... yeah OK then
I can imagine the drakengard games getting remake, but Yoko Taro gets to tell the story he wants, like certain parts are rewritten and done better. Imagine these games with todays graphics and the story gets a good polish with new stuff.
I know this is an old video but, I am just trying to get all my knowledge before I get Nier Automata this Weekend. And I must say I Love this analysis it was great. got 4 more vids to go and I will be caught up. will watch the Automata ones when I get all the Endings. Keep Up The Great Work.
I just feel like after all the sin and bloodshed from the first game, the glimmer of a spec of hope for a happy ending should exist out there. That's where I'm at with Drakengard 2... If a happy end COULD exist, here ya go.
I got goosebumps on Angelus' and Caim's death... Dayummmm! Also Nowe being Inuart's and Furiae's son was actually sick. Is it just me or does Inuart has a Kazuya vibe when he's possessed. Loved the Kingdom Hearts reference 🤣
You're legitimately the funniest UA-camr I've found since, like, Dz Nutz Gaming after Bloodborne came out. These videos are informational triple baconators packed with delicious, artery-clogging memes.
Drakengard 2 was actually the first and only drakengard game i've ever owned. I was introduced to the series from this game, i feel like this game is a good introduction to the series from a newcomer since it's strange but not as a strange as the other two games (and well being a wee child and playing this game than finding out the last game one of the endings involved giant baby monsters jeegus).
"Ascending difficulty" Understatement. Of. The. Century. Speaking strictly of gameplay, the third playthrough of Drakengard 2 is when the game goes from slightly better than 1 to a fucking MASTERPIECE. Nearly everything kills you in one or two hits no matter what you have equipped and no matter what level you're at. This, combined with the fact that you're often constantly surrounded by upwards of hundreds of enemies all with the ability to block, flank, use quick attacks and slow unblockable attacks, makes for an extremely engaging experience. You are in constant danger of dying at any moment, but you have every tool necessary to avoid damage, i.e. blocking, dodging, magic, parrying, etc... I love this video for what it is, and there were a lot of great laughs you gave me, especially at the end, but I ultimately have to disagree with your end assessment. I would wholly recommend playing this game all three times. I've replayed this game all the way through to extreme difficulty at least 4 times ever since I picked up back in 2007. It's one of my favorite games, honestly. Granted, I picked this up before I got Drakengard 1, and I like both games, just for different reasons. I didn't have the expectation of grimdark Berserk-eqsue story beats when playing Drakengard 2. I just wanted a nice medieval fantasy romp, and that's what I got. And honestly I really like the voice acting by all players. I'll give you that the actress who played Manah (who's name is fucking IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND) was a little flat, but never grating or irritatingly so. I completely disagree with your stance on Nowe's acting, however. James Daniel Wilson did a great job and that was his first ever performance (I think). All the times you played a line from him followed by a fart noise fell completely flat for me. I really liked his monologues capping each chapter. Plus he just has a really nice voice. He's done a few audiobooks that are on audible. There's more I could say since this is one of my favorite games, but it'd mostly be me prattling on about the series lore and how 2 adds a lot of cool and interesting stuff to it despite people not liking the game as much.
berserkchip I am right there with you. Its amongst my fav games and I honestly like it as a conclusion to the DoD timeline. NieR follows the dark path and thats fine, its a different timeline. DoD2 has its merits and even if it is not so dark upfront, if one thinks through the endings, they may seem really grim, especially Manah's dead + lets fight the Watchers.
Jesus thanks for doing these videos. I'm about to jump into playing these myself but thought to just check videos about it first. I can't imagine playing this three fucking times out of obligation to know the ending. But God, I kinda dig the 2nd ending much better than the others.
I just realized you tend to use Touhou music in your videos. It would be hilarious if someday you make one of these videos for a Touhou game. The flying grls board a ship. The flying girls stop the night because of moon reasons. The flying girls go to the underworld because spring is taking too long... Hilarious
Old comment, I know but I agree so much and I am surprised so many people like this version. It feels almost... insulting. Growing Wings is Furiae's song. None of the lyrics fit the final fight or *any* of the themes in Drakengard 2. Using it here feels like just a cheap attempt at nostalgia points. I suppose a piano melody sounds nice but it kinda just encapsulates the entirety of the game - trying to be Drakengard but watered down in a weak attempt to be more "digestible".
The problem in DG 2 that irks me is that the protagonist doesn't seem to evolve that much. He's too generic and it doesn't help that Caim still carries that charisma despite him being the terminator in this game. It made me wish that I wasn't playing Nowe but Caim instead. I yearned the opportunity to play Caim's life and his status change of hero to villain as he tries to free Angelus.
i feel like you skipped a little too fast over the ending C , like yes its finish with an hand holding scene but you should have gone in even more detail about how its a way too much happy ending compared to every endings of the original bassicaly peoples : the watchers and dragons all die , humanity is now able to lead itself without them and all is happy in the world , like sure it is in term of timeline the last game in the serie since 3 is a prequel to 1 but its a way too sweet ending compared to everything in both other games
I was looking forward to hearing the Cosmo Manah "lalalalala"...... At first I thought Caim died pathetically by falling into an abyss but he didn't. (That's good). I was looking forward to see him with some kind of happy closure, well, it was a closure, sure.... Well, at least he didn't get blasted to death by missiles. I didn't see a playthrough of this game but I think your videos are enough to keep me up to speed with Drakengard 2. Thank you very much for making this. But still no cummy for Nowe and Cardboard Manah >_< The kiss was cringey and I actually thought they did it in front of Eris. Whoa, the same kind of shade for Nier keeps killing for YONAHH? So only the shade things persist in Nier from Drakengard? No Golems, Reapers, Elves or Asshole Fairies? Wow, whew, there's no asshole fairies in the Nier games. Thank god for that.
Can't say I really agree with that sentiment that "Drakengard 2" is that much of a disappointment as I rather liked it myself. I found it to be a good followup to "Drakengard", more than what I deem to be the mess that is "Drakengard 3" anyway. It wasn't as surreally grim or as messed up, but it definitely had it's moments and it built on quite a bit from what was there in the first game. I also rather liked Nowe, both for his role and just how much he clashes with Caim as a character as they are close to complete opposites. Caim is a character who who perfectly fits in the messed up world of "Drakengard" and acts as the subversion of the typical hero character. Nowe on the other hand basically is that typical naive hero but he's trying to exist in that messed up world. But yeah, "Drakengard 2" definitely seems to be the more divisive entry to the series. Some love it, others hate it.
Most likely with a ton of furious sword pointing, corpse stabbing and slaps to her head, until he thought about writing it in a note. Probably with the blood of the last corpse he stabbed.
Just found those videos now. Great work. And yes, that FUCKING fight is the reason why I bit hard into my controller way back when and never finished the game. I can hard mode Bayonetta, I can finish all soulsborne games, I can drink bleach and survive. But this fight is my fucking nemesis.
the voice acting gives me Xenoblade vibes in areas (got that whole British thing going for it) and when Mechonis fields started playing in the video, the feeling only grew stronger
I had never caught that Nowe was the combination of Furiae and dude. I had thought when he said he was a sentimental fool like his father, Legna was referring to himself. I liked that better... T_T
Drakengard 2 might be my fav one in all 3 just because I was introducted to the series with this game and I love the story. Understandable even for someone who never played 1 before. It explain well and The death of Caim hit me hard and I can't Imgine how hard will hit to the fan of 1. Boss fights were hard and fun. Drakengard 3 is the most shittest series of all. I hate the story, I hate how it trying to be funny. I hate the fact the protagonist was fucking with pigeons. Most of all I hate the gameplay. The dragon part was cutoff from the game and it's just there as 2D shooting game. I still hope they make Drakengard 4 but this time pick up from where Drakengard 2 end.
I just finished playing Drakengrard 1 on the PS2, I couldn't find the second game and I heard nothing but bad news from it. I just saved 60 hours of my life. One does not simply walk into the seeds of Destruction and not come out as a bird humans army.
It's funny how you mentioned that they "toned it down so that kids would play it", yet in the U.S., much like the first game, it still bears an M (17+) rating.

Anyhow i stand drakengard 2 while probably my least favorite of the 4 games is still worth it solely cause when it actually hits a right note it really hits it high, id o genuinly believe the whole situation with caim in this game is one of the highest parts of the series and its kind of a shame the game doesnt keep it up like that after his death, i would have preferred eris staying dead for good as her getting retconned kind of took out the tragic flow the 2nd half of the game had and as you said the endings being literal powerpoint presentations is such a wtf moment it kind of ruins alot of things.
I swear when Legna screams "Nowe" he was actually screaming "noooowaaay". Yes, Legna. I, too, am in disbelief.
sorry but I love that game. don't get me wrong I love and appreciate the dark, soul crushing, anti fantasy trope method of story telling that Tara is known for as much as the next pessimists but I also want a good and happy ending with a clear conclusion for at least most people too. I'm happy Manah found love and happiness, and come on that second ending with taking the war to the God's was badass and basically all I wanted from the first game. Dragons vs Baby demons let's go.
"He came so much he became Jesus"
Best quote of the year I ever herd
Hell yeah, I got referenced!
Seriously though, this was a pretty good review. Touches on some things I didn't notice while still giving the 2nd game credit where it's due.
I do enjoy Drakengard 3, though I'm not really a huge fan of its weird tone and themes. Can't wait to see the review soon!
JXZX1 drakengard 2 is my favorite
7:11 As a KH fant his fucking part always kills me it's perfect
I absolute fairness to Drakengard 2: the image of a swarm of divine dragons flying into battle against the gods themselves is pretty amazing. That could have been a game in its own right.
So...Legna is the reason Caim is a bloodthirsty psychopath with a love for murder and revenge because he murdered his parents in front of him. Do I have that right?
Mah Boiiiiiiiiiii! More Caim would have been great in the game. Oh well.
19:50 Hand holding? How lewd!
That face when Manah said "Love me. Please?" I said, "Sit down, Big fella"
-He came so hard he turned into Jesus
Have a like my boy
Fun Fact. The Novellas reveal that the first ending where Eris becomes a goddess is the "canon" ending
Well if you want to go there I think it goes like this. The world normalizes into sameish world like ours( dates differing by about couple of years ) and Caim ( branch E ) breaks quantum mechanics of the universe to end up in this branch.
No happy endings.
I don't see how thats relevant, but okay
cannon to what?
see for yourself

DrakeVagabond but that says that ending B leads into the garden of light, wasn't is ending A
A SHADE?! Wasn't that exclusive to Neir?
Also that KH reference fucking busted my sides XD
I thought the same thing it dosen't make any sense chronologically.
Why does Eris seem like some kinda parody of the childhood friend trope?
U can say anything about Drakengard 2 but that last Caim scene with Angelus is the best scene in entire Drakengard series.
The game is basically Nowe simping for Manah
"Mah Boiaaaayyyyy!" Lol XD
*_I GOT AN AD FOR FUCKING SMOKED CHICKEN RIGHT AFTER ANGELUS AND CAIM'S DEATH WAS COVERED FUCKING CHRIST_*
And Nowe... while a nice fellow, i guess, he feels weak and bit out of place, he would do a lot better as waitress at the cafe than going around slaying things.
fuck nowe
caim Looking good, Caim, looking good.
Svetlana Sygiainen chil out
waitresses don't ask questions.
Is Caim still mute in this game? If so, how did he tell Manah she's not allowed to forget?
He...has his ways.
I mean......he could write it down.
That's what DarkID implies he saw it, he carried a sign or something was the joke he made.
I think its implied that Manah had a pact with the Watchers but apparently no price was paid by her, and its a known fact that pact partners could hear other pact partner's voices, so that's how Caim "told" her she wasn't allowed to forget.
I know this comment was written 6 years ago but lol
In the ending A of DoD1 Angelus says exactly that to Manah before she volunteers to become a seal. I'm pretty sure this was both hers and Caim's sentiment, and any further action from Caim in between the games reinforced that this was his belief, too. At least that's how I see it.
@@kenku6440Ah, thanks for clarifying.
He keeps saying Nowe and all I can hear is Nowi.
Nowe is not Nowi.
Edit : "Caim manages to kill Death itself" YOU SAY THAT LIKE THAT WAS NOTH- wait last game we had... yeah OK then
As far as I know, Nowi is a dragon girl from Fire Emblem Awakening.
Thank you for these videos! they're very well put together, and your persona is unique and entertaining! keep up the amazing content*
I can imagine the drakengard games getting remake, but Yoko Taro gets to tell the story he wants, like certain parts are rewritten and done better. Imagine these games with todays graphics and the story gets a good polish with new stuff.
ONE PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCH
(My Boy xD ) 0:20
These videos are magical
I love your choice of music, FF9&X
I know this is an old video but, I am just trying to get all my knowledge before I get Nier Automata this Weekend. And I must say I Love this analysis it was great. got 4 more vids to go and I will be caught up. will watch the Automata ones when I get all the Endings. Keep Up The Great Work.
I just feel like after all the sin and bloodshed from the first game, the glimmer of a spec of hope for a happy ending should exist out there. That's where I'm at with Drakengard 2... If a happy end COULD exist, here ya go.
0:40 man just casually dropping Silver Will as the BGM
I got goosebumps on Angelus' and Caim's death... Dayummmm!
Also Nowe being Inuart's and Furiae's son was actually sick. Is it just me or does Inuart has a Kazuya vibe when he's possessed.
Loved the Kingdom Hearts reference 🤣
17:35 "Why, Liza, why? You're tearing me apart!" moment, lol
Clemps, just wanted to say that you're the true MVP, can't wait for the Drakengard 3 video(s) !
Thanks, Clemps! I look forward to these
You're legitimately the funniest UA-camr I've found since, like, Dz Nutz Gaming after Bloodborne came out. These videos are informational triple baconators packed with delicious, artery-clogging memes.
I think I might like this even more than the first gard, you REALLY sell these
Drakengard 2 was actually the first and only drakengard game i've ever owned. I was introduced to the series from this game, i feel like this game is a good introduction to the series from a newcomer since it's strange but not as a strange as the other two games (and well being a wee child and playing this game than finding out the last game one of the endings involved giant baby monsters jeegus).
“Your dick’s on your back?!?!? “
Best commentary
Been waiting for this one!
Using Touhou music is always good
You use so much FF9 OST I love you for it lol
B R U H. The Legends of the Heroes: Trails in the Sky jams.
I heard Silver Will in there. I love you.
Our boi Clemps is a man of culture.
I just finished watching part 1, what timing!
I've been waiting for this
Perfect use of Touhou music as well. Clemps you got kino music tastes
"Ascending difficulty"
Understatement. Of. The.
12:07 Is that Mechonis Field I hear?
I just realized you tend to use Touhou music in your videos. It would be hilarious if someday you make one of these videos for a Touhou game. The flying grls board a ship. The flying girls stop the night because of moon reasons. The flying girls go to the underworld because spring is taking too long... Hilarious
u need more subs man your content is really good
Since Legna was Inuart's original pact-partner, that means Legna was the black dragon who killed Caim's parents.
3:52 - 3:56 ~ I cannot rightfully explain it, but this brief little sequence will never cease to be hilarious.
But why?
But why?
I never understood how anyone could like the Growing Wings tracks from the sequels more than the one from the first Drakengard.
Yus, more Clempuns, I needed this
The problem in DG 2 that irks me is that the protagonist doesn't seem to evolve that much. He's too generic and it doesn't help that Caim still carries that charisma despite him being the terminator in this game. It made me wish that I wasn't playing Nowe but Caim instead. I yearned the opportunity to play Caim's life and his status change of hero to villain as he tries to free Angelus.
Oh my god...the guy who does the "You're late for the party children" is Pinky from Animaniacs. I dare you now not to unhear that :P
i feel like you skipped a little too fast over the ending C , like yes its finish with an hand holding scene but you should have gone in even more detail about how its a way too much happy ending compared to every endings of the original
bassicaly peoples : the watchers and dragons all die , humanity is now able to lead itself without them and all is happy in the world , like sure it is in term of timeline the last game in the serie since 3 is a prequel to 1 but its a way too sweet ending compared to everything in both other games
So that what ending really meant. Dammit, Clamp had one job, ONE!
That’s decent!
Gismor became a Shade.
And his Magic ACTUALLY looks like the red spells from Nier.
3:53.
truly the best time stamp... "but why?"
I can't wait to see you cover Drakengard 3 and hopefully NiEr as well.
Super Saiyan Blue Goku? Who knew Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was made back in 2005.
oh man, that bit with the Legaia music ❤❤❤❤
Super saiyan blue Goku had me done ahahahahaha!
Some love it, others hate it.
shadowmaksim 👍
And 3 though darker then two has wayyyyy more werid funny moments so like I don't get why people think drakengard is only dark.
4:30
wait... is that.. is that Legend Of legaia's battle music??
Is that Legend of Legaia music I hear?
How in the hell did Caim tell Manah to never forget her crimes? YA BOI IS A HECKIN' MUTE, SON!!!
Sign language?
Spelling it out in corpses.
Angelus told her?
Most likely with a ton of furious sword pointing, corpse stabbing and slaps to her head, until he thought about writing it in a note. Probably with the blood of the last corpse he stabbed.
Good viddie, my boy.
Just found those videos now. Great work. And yes, that FUCKING fight is the reason why I bit hard into my controller way back when and never finished the game. I can hard mode Bayonetta, I can finish all soulsborne games, I can drink bleach and survive. But this fight is my fucking nemesis.
Fucking hell, it's about one and a half years later and I finally understand all the Kingdom Hearts jokes
the voice acting gives me Xenoblade vibes in areas (got that whole British thing going for it)
and when Mechonis fields started playing in the video, the feeling only grew stronger
I had never caught that Nowe was the combination of Furiae and dude. I had thought when he said he was a sentimental fool like his father, Legna was referring to himself. I liked that better... T_T
im at 4:20 and im super lost as to where this story started and is going
finished it, i somewhat know what happend but barely
Made a pact... with... a shade? Hmm, we're getting closer to why we're (I'm) watching these videos.
Legna was calling himself sentimental when he referred to nowe's father
"Tastes like mayonnaise" got me 🤣🤣
Drakengard 2 might be my fav one in all 3 just because I was introducted to the series with this game and I love the story.
20:56 Wait no. Until the day you die ? That's not how it works.
It's funny how you mentioned that they "toned it down so that kids would play it", yet in the U.S., much like the first game, it still bears an M (17+) rating.
