I've been saying that there needs to be a "Character Creation: The Game"(tm) where for whatever reason your objective is to do character creation screens for various genres and art styles. It'd be like a bounty system, and it could be like a talent agency premise or maybe a police sketch artist or some espionage thing, and some setting that justifies various styles (ex. Who Framed Roger Rabbit). I do much of this same shit. And i have so many D&D characters I'll never actually play, myself. 😅 -part of the 10%

I think the WWE games dont get the credit they deserve for having such great creation suites. Early PS2 era nothing could compete with wrestling games, Day of Reckoning for the GameCube especially had a really cool options for adding texture and objects to your characters.
When I was little I always loved making stories and characters. The second I got into character creation games I’ve become obsessed because now I wanna make more OCs and stories. 😭
I love a game with a good character creator. Extra things I want to see added, besides more black hairstyles, are options to choose how your character moves, walks, attacks, gestures, idle animations, and things like that. So much of character is defined by motion and mannerisms, and how a person carries themselves. I would love to see variety options for that as well.

Inzoi was probably the most extensive character creator I've ever used. Literally made myself. But my favorite character creator ever though was probably soul caliber 4s. So it's awesome to hear you shout out those games.

Thoroughly enjoyed this, please look after yourself when going through hard stuff, I ended up hospitalised because my body became severely ill from stress recently, self care is so important I know this focuses on human characters but one of my first ever games and one of my favourite ever games is Spore - the whole game revolves around creation - creature/character, houses, vehicles, space ships, cells, and the game is SO FUN I also loved making new characters on World of Warcraft just because I wanted to try all the different character species/races and see how they looked riding a cool dragon, I loved collecting mounts

I think a huge reason I've played Elden Ring for hundreds of hours is how rewarding the act of character creation feels, both in terms of the character creator, the character changes you can get through quests, the diversity of armor, and of course the variety in your build. I've just never felt more in control of my characters appearance and playstyle in a game, and the lore implications of all of those things you can make your own headcannons for too??? It's a beautiful thing
Always a pleasant surprise to see an upload from IP. Whenever I play the sims, I spend all the time creating my character and I consider it a good play through if I ever finish one. A good character customization + a fun fishing mini-game is a great sign of a quality game tbh
Have you looked into life simulation games? Kinda like Fire Emblem Awakening, Stardew Valley, or Rune Factory where the decisions you make change the outlook of the game. I've always felt like they've been overlooked, or projects have fallen through on the combination of character creation and simulation, to where you can create ALL of it.
My favourite character creator is probably Armored Core VI, because not only do you use it to customise your build, a core part of the gameplay, but there are so many options in how you style your mech to not only be aesthetically pleasing but also give it its own style that reflects the build. I think Jacob Geller put it best when he said something along the lines of “you know the character creator is good when you want to give names to your builds”.
