What are some small, simple changes we can all make to be a little more sustainable? :) Leave your suggestions below so we can all learn and grow together! Small changes in daily habits make a big difference!
Make clothes for all sizes and sharps and planet friendly and decent prices and keep donating to those that can’t afford anything and learn to sew and needle ❤
Remember the mantra: "Reduce, reuse, recycle", in that order! Reducing your usage is more important than reusing, and reusing has more of an impact than recycling. Something I started doing to reexamine my habits: pay more attention to whatever is taking up the most space in your trash can. Is it paper towels? Small bottles of toiletries? Face wipes? Feminine products? Many of these can be replaced with a non-disposable alternatives, or reduced with different purchasing decisions. It's important to think about habits that you've become accustomed to... Even the ones that seem gross! (Hello, menstrual cup! These are lifesavers!)
Eating vegetarian/vegan dishes a few times per week. Refusing to buy unnecessarily packaged items or with an unnecessarily large amount of packaging. Finding a place to refill your soap and such instead of buying new containers every time. Using reusable version of disposable products.
I get most (not undergarments, socks or shoes) of my clothing from resale/thrift/consignment online and brick&mortar shops. I do try to recycle housewares, but just recently saw a doc that indicated not everything put out for recycle pickup actually gets recycled 😐
As a disabled seller on Poshmark, Mercari etc I just wanted to say thank you for validating that we are providing a service by doing the digging, thrifting and curating of our closets. So many people don’t take that into consideration when shopping in second hand “reseller” spaces. We are putting an awful lot of work in so others can shop from the comfort of wherever they may be. I am only able to handle just a fraction of what most do but it takes all I have to give and I take pride in that!
As a small art business owner it made me so happy that you shared everyone's Instagram's and why's to find the artists! A little shout out goes such a long way! I always love watching your chopping content. As someone who loves to dive and dig through thrift stores it's fun to see more curated options out there! We live in a super small town, close to other super small towns, so we're super limited on the thrift store options.
My best advice for anyone who has strange sizing and is shopping at thrift stores, keep an open mind. Shop all of the sections. Don't limit yourself to your gender/age category. I am a woman and I frequently buy men's clothes and children's clothes, especially at thrift stores. Kids clothes are a gold mine if you petite. Especially with the mini-adults fashionistas nowadays.
I agree with this 100%! The smallest size that I'm able to get into is a medium (for tops), but the largest size that I can feel comfortable in is XL. It really just depends on the style of the garment as well as the brand names. Being a little over 5 ft. makes it fairly easy for me to fit some sizes on top, but not so much on the bottom, so in my experiences at least, I will mostly stay true to size for my bottoms.
I sometimes buy men's clothes because I am not petite. I need super long pants. The top of my body is that of someone who is on the short side. Like 5'3", but my legs and hips line up with someone in the 6'3" heights. Sometimes men's pants and especially sweats are perfect in the length for me. I have never shopped in thrift stores before because it never dawned on me to go to ones in nicer cities and that were curated. As an autistic woman if I walk into a non-curated thrift store or even a store that is messy. I started getting serious sensory overload issues. Now I am starting to check out the more expensive areas for them and looking online to make sure they are curated. Even if they are more expensive, at least I am upcycling things.
Exactly! I found things a few different times on the children's section that happened to either fit me or be a very small adult or teenager size and I ended up getting them for the price of the children's clothing. So sometimes you can get deals that way shopping in different sections. But even if Goodwill or salvation army or places like that aren't your go-to for clothing necessarily you should at least try them for home decor and kitchenware. I thought in several sets or groups of dishes at Goodwill for a couple of bucks each. Granted they are all mixed and match but they all coordinate pretty nicely and they are all retro 70s. You can find a lot of unique decor items or sometimes chairs or even holiday items are great to get at the thrift store. Goodwill specifically gets a ton of their product in store from Target so you can find things at a fraction of the price that most of the time still has the target tag on it and it is a brand new item.
Where I live, people put boxes of clothes and stuff they no longer need out on the street for others to take for free. I got a bunch of really nice clothes that way and have successfully given away things I didn't want any more. It's a really nice feeling of community, giving and receiving stuff for free, even if you never meet the people in person. It just makes me happy to know that my old stuff is making someone else happy and is not going to waste!
The one trader who Molly asked their handle and he tried to hand a card to definitely made me chuckle like context clues really shows that some people don’t know what to do or how to make things accessible about to the venders that made it easier
To add on about the costumes, you can make so many cool costumes out of pieces that you can wear during your everyday wardrobe, so definitely look into that as well!
I love how your nails match your mug! I really used to love thrift stores and garage sales but now I find them to really be difficult because I'm in a wheelchair and I can't really dig and hunt around and most garage sales I can't get my wheelchair around them so I'm often left at the end of the driveway and get shown things my family thinks I would like and thrift stores aren't much better
I haven't been to LA in many years now, but if the "It's A Wrap" stores are still open, they are always a go-to for me when I'm in town! All are items that were on production sets, so you have everything from tank tops for a few bucks, to accessories and shoes, to some designer items, and even wild costumes. You should be able to ask what production they were from, too. Highly recommend!!
Btw I think it's "F L E A market"! Also that Avocado much is so damned cute! I love it! The eccentric and creative sorts of things you see at markets like this, is unmatched. You always find things you never knew you needed, and even if you don't want something it's super entertaining!
Anyone else getting just as anxious watching people stare at Elton John like they are going to reach out to pet him? I’m yelling “he’s working!!” At the screen 😂
I would love to see a collab between you and some of these artists!! I wonder if ColorByJoey can do some jackets in braille for blind rights as well!! ❤️❤️
Charity shops are so hit and miss! I really like Vinted but there are also lots of pop up vintage sales and flea markets that travel around the U.K. ☺️
Thrifting is great. Just buying second hand is wonderful. I recently discovered Vinted, and I bought some stuff I needed for winter on there for very low prices. I highly recommend!
My boyfriend is a wonderful short king 👑 (and a TVI -teacher certified in visual impairment), but everything you said about sizing challenges is so true. Luckily, he has found a few good places online for shorter guys, but they are pretty pricey.
Thanks again molly for being a contuing reminder that fashion is what we make it. Where what makes us happy and screw what others think if were enjoying ourselves. Youve truly helped me embrace my eclectic style of fashion. I we ever had the opportunity to meet i loved to let you try on my fedora hat collection and waistcoasts as i think youd rock them really well. Though my newest full brim fedora in brown might make your head disappear as its large on me and im a small guy around 5 ft 5. When people comment on my height i just say if it works for Tom cruise then i must be ok lol 😂. Much love to you and the family ❤️
I'm 5"5 and athletic and slim and yet have trouble finding clothes that fit properly because I find that lots of women's clothes can feel flimsy unless I go to thrift stores. Newer styles don't make me feel comfortable. The only exception is when I go to the men's section of Urban Planet and will often buy the tie dye windbreakers or sweatshirts because they fit snugly on me. I found an olive green sweatshirt there with a bunch of spiritual symbols on it like the yin yang and it is so comfy. I also got a black autumn jacket at Giant Tiger one time that was in the men's section, but fit me so well. That neon jacket looks amazing on you! Those crystals look beautiful! I see crystals at Awarehouse Books in Regina, but the big crystals are usually around $50 to $100. $20 is a great deal for crystals of that size! I think the word your mom is trying to say is gondolas.
I am low key jealous. I love thrifting and my medium sized city here in Germany has some options, but obviously nothing as cool as the places you have in LA. That said, beware of cheap crystals (or really any if you want to be on the safe side). They are usually from very unsafe and illegal mines where the workers are underpaid and work without any protective gear. The people selling them usually have no direct contacts to the mines so they can't know (and often don't want to know) where the stones are from. Rose quartz from Madagascar is a prime example of how the wellness industry is exploiting people and presenting it as "giving them opportunities". I don't want to come across as someone who hates on people buying crystals (I used to buy them too) but I think it is important to spread this information so people can decide for themselves if the pretty stones are worth the potential hurt they cause.
Im short and depending on my illness I go up and down with weight.. I also have 2 feeding tubes. And I've found so many good things at thrift stores that helps with my whole body. From maternity to stretch .. it helps so much
I have a thrift store near my area where I always go to. It also sells a lot of stuff by local artists beside the thrifted clothes. It's like a treasure chamber, you always find cool new stuff going there
My favorite place to go thrifting are Value Village and Dots. Value Village is great during grad season in May and June because that's the time of year when they have lots of dresses and I can find lots of cool outfits for my open mic nights. Dots is a great store for retro dresses, jeans and the prices are often 50 to 75% off the original price. I think a lot of their clothing is from out of season stock from Liquidation World. I can also find cool hats at Dots, as well.
I LOVE thredup! It's my new fav website.... for a sighted person that is. I agree with you about it being curated. I love the filters. 2 orders delivered so far and nothing had to be returned ❤️.
What you said at the start about stuff not being built for short bodies...100%. I'm 5 feet flat but I'm also not (size wise) "petite", I have an athletic build with wide shoulders, big legs, etc. soo I have to wear bigger sizes but they always go so long on me cause of my height. They just assume short = small (but only a certain level of small) and taller = bigger (buuut only a certain level of bigger). The struggle is real.
OK, I love Molly, I’ve been following her for years, i’m legally blind myself and I think she’d appreciate my sense of humor here… I just have to make a drinking game out of the amount of times the word “curated“ is mentioned!
I don't really like shopping places that make you pay to get inside just to pay for everything you have to buy from the vendors and the food and everything. But what I really hate is places that charge an arm and a leg to get inside. Such as like $8, $10, $15+. They have a big flea market like that here in the middle of Michigan and it is like $7 per person to get inside. It is usually pretty nice because it's mostly vintage and antique items and we almost always find something every time we go. But when it costs gas to get there and the feed for every person to get in on top of everything that you want to buy there like merchandise and the lunch and everything it really adds up super quickly. Especially places that continue to let people through the day or through the doors a half an hour before the show is supposed to end and there are hundreds of vendors. They should have a stopping point for letting people in because if you don't have enough time to even get through half of the vendors it's not worth the money that you spent to get inside.
OMG! Love everything you got Molly and there are so beautiful ❤️🍃🧡🍃❤️❤️🍃🧡🧡🦃🍁🍂🍂🍂🍁🍁🦃🧡🍃❤️❤️🍃🦃🦃🍁🍂🍂🍁🦃🧡🍃❤️❤️❤️🍃🧡🦃🍁🍂🍂🍁🦃🧡🍃🍃❤️❤️❤️❤️🍃🍃🦃🍁🍁🦃🧡🍃🍃🧡🦃🧡🧡🍁🍁🍂🦃🦃🧡🍃🍃🍃🍃🧡🦃🦃🧡🍃
I love my local Value Village. It's organized by item type and size, so I go with a goal in mind (i.e. I'm looking for dresses and tops today) and go up and down EVERY aisle with those items regardless of size to pick through the items before trying on the things I grabbed for size and fit
In the words of Raw Beauty Kristi, "progress not perfection". People tend to underestimate costs when shopping for local artisans. The cost of materials and the time to produce art pieces add up! I've heard horror stories from artists who have had people tell them off or belittle them due to prices! Am I turned off at a multiple hundred dollar quilt that was handmade? Absolutely! But if it was something I was in the market for and had the money, it wouldn't bother me simply because I know how expensive the materials alone cost!
I love crossroads- they have one in major cities. I have bought really amazing things that i have had for years from them. They closed the one in my city though and it made me really sad!
OMG! Is Clown Chic a thing or did Molly just invent it? Either way.....that sweater vest/short set is so great!! So after checking out the Nike Dunks.......I actually think you would prefer the tactile pair called Strange Love Nike SB Dunks. They are furry and a bit more muted in color.
Oh, I feel ya sis💕I usually have to buy pants and stuff at the child section, but some brands have started with petite (xxs/xxxs) and some are very good at it but others make the wonkiest, wierdest clothes😅Like, yes I'm small, but i do not have tiny ancles and legs but round tighs and half a butt, what? I'm normal, just small 😂💖
It the art (whether clothing, accessories, decor) is being sold by the creator(s), I always feel that the price they ask probably will and should be somewhat higher than super stores or fast fashion places.
@@gnatscrafts as a sighted person I could be completely wrong in my judgement and would be curious if anybody can correct me, however I don’t think it’s rude at all, molly is blind and the channels about raising awareness on the everyday struggles. There is no shame in being blind and it’s nothing to be embarrassed of therefor I don’t think it was rude at all, disability isn’t an insult
@@ellie_michelle6987 i definitely know what you mean, but it’s the principle of things. as a rule, i dont talk about people’s bodies unless it’s a compliment or a fixable wardrobe malfunction. anyone, in any state of mind, could see that comment and get self conscious. yes, disability is not an insult. but there’s also no need to point out how “obvious” their disability is/isn’t.
@@ellie_michelle6987 I agree. Because of the nature of Molly's content, and the fact that she talks about people saying she's not "blind enough", or that she doesn't "look blind", I thought your comment was not rude and fits the context. Context is key.
Did you have the name for the shop that made the sweaters? The pink and red one + the vest set? I didn’t find it in the info tab, unless it was one of those ofcourse!
Listen, as far as the every year costume, my friends always host a halloween party with the same people, and we all have used some costume more than once at that party.
I'm with you, I need a more curated experience. I'm 100% overwhelmed in large thrifting stores or flea markets where someone who likes "the hunt" would thrive.
I'd love to see your mother or best friend go into a Goodwill or salvation army and try to pick out a few outfits and maybe some decor pieces they think you will really like. Just so you could do a video on it and test them out and see if you actually do like them or not.
Wait I think the only store NOT mentioned is the one where all the sweaters are from?? They are so cute but I checked every IG in the description and couldn’t find it :(

Kids clothes are a gold mine if you petite. Especially with the mini-adults fashionistas nowadays.
Also a lot of clothes get put in the wrong places. I have found so many cute cropped pieces that were obviously for adults in the kids section😭

Omg when you mentioned the admission fees I was shocked! I didn’t know some flea markets actually charged you just to enter 👀👀👀
I think that's fairly common. My hometown has a flea market every Sunday and it's like $3 per adult to get in

Was going to comment on the spelling of flea market. Glad you did!
Yeah, like the bug!
Flee market 😂😅

finally someone who loves the red/hot pink combo as much as i do😭😭
that heart sweat could very easily become the cutest christmas top. she needs her wear time.
It's good to see you looking happier and enjoying life. I love your new look house
Anyone else getting just as anxious watching people stare at Elton John like they are going to reach out to pet him? I’m yelling “he’s working!!” At the screen 😂
Im only a minute in, but i could only imagine that thrifting while blind would be very overwhelming. As a sighted person its a lot!

OMG! Love everything you got Molly and there are so beautiful ❤️🍃🧡🍃❤️❤️🍃🧡🧡🦃🍁🍂🍂🍂🍁🍁🦃🧡🍃❤️❤️🍃🦃🦃🍁🍂🍂🍁🦃🧡🍃❤️❤️❤️🍃🧡🦃🍁🍂🍂🍁🦃🧡🍃🍃❤️❤️❤️❤️🍃🍃🦃🍁🍁🦃🧡🍃🍃🧡🦃🧡🧡🍁🍁🍂🦃🦃🧡🍃🍃🍃🍃🧡🦃🦃🧡🍃
Definitely colab woth colored by joey!! You could definitely rock one of those jackets!
I love my local Value Village. It's organized by item type and size, so I go with a goal in mind (i.e. I'm looking for dresses and tops today) and go up and down EVERY aisle with those items regardless of size to pick through the items before trying on the things I grabbed for size and fit
That costume is gorgs! you can do a whole pinup girl look
I have the opposite problem from you. I am plus sized with long legs( not easy to find).
I love shopping videos with you!
I like how your finger nail polish matches your mug cute
I love crossroads- they have one in major cities. I have bought really amazing things that i have had for years from them. They closed the one in my city though and it made me really sad!
I'm 5'2" and a 3XL. I totally understand. Not only am I short, I'm round.
Oh my gosh I moved to LA September 2017. Those were the days.
I’m 4”11 and it’s so hard to find stuff. I don’t alter or tailor my clothes. I just buy what I like. Sometimes I buy kids clothes bcs it’s cute
I so very much want Molly Christmas videos already. Is it too early? 😃
3 videos a week in December!!!
You need the shoes for the pink and red fit!
of all those sellers rocco is a legend...
The sweater set is so cute !
It the art (whether clothing, accessories, decor) is being sold by the creator(s), I always feel that the price they ask probably will and should be somewhat higher than super stores or fast fashion places.
I am sighted but I do feel you with the overwhelming feeling at flea markets 🙈
This just really showed how blind Molly is… especially interacting with all the venders and them trying to hand her things.
i didnt see that happening? also your comment is kinda unnecessary and a little rude lol
edit: nvm i saw it happen once, with thay guy’s business card
@@ellie_michelle6987 I didn't think you mean it in a rude way ;) and I agree. It shows the real world scenario of "you don't look blind" 🤷🏼♀️
I’d kill for that Hannibal Lector rug!!
I love Molly shopping videos ❤
I would love a thrift store curated by molly
Did you have the name for the shop that made the sweaters? The pink and red one + the vest set? I didn’t find it in the info tab, unless it was one of those ofcourse!
Let your inner AquariusQueen out, girl!😍
Lol Rocko funny. He went to shake your hand and you sidetracked him with "what's your name"
If you’re blind, you cannot tell if somebody is trying to shake your hand.
Same thing with me being 6ft tall. Sadly I can't even buy to have tailored. I love looking at thrift stores, but typically become discouraged.
This was fun! Clown chic tickled me! 😂
4’11 squad ✌🏻
I loved this video so much 🥰🥰
Could you do a kitchen tour and show us your appliances?
That sweater vest set is ADORBS
so cute! Love Melrose Trading Post! Do you have the name/IG for the seller with the ski sweater?
I love looking at ThredUP Such a fun site.
Wait I think the only store NOT mentioned is the one where all the sweaters are from?? They are so cute but I checked every IG in the description and couldn’t find it :(
You should get a flapper costume! What do you do on Halloween?
When you say... oh, so sparkly -- can you see sparkles? I know you can see ilght/dark - but can you see sparkles?? Trying to understand.
