I wasn’t expecting that story about Robert Stigwood and the earlier abuse as a boy and so respect your ability to tell it so eloquently without the bitterness that could easily be part of it.

This conversation knocked me out. And that's all I can say about that. God bless. This has happened to so many people and, from personal experience, it is the secret that is commonplace for so many people....damaged people....I can relate. That is why I believe women and men who have been damaged and abused by powerful people who think they can get away with this behavior because of their power, all kinds of power; whether it is the boss at the office, a respected family member, or a person with money and influence....it is all the same. I have worked much of it out with 25 plus years of therapy.... Now I am going to have a beer and play my guitar. I don't know what else to say myself. I am grateful for everything I have, including a woman who loves me and my beautiful animals. I feel blessed, especially since so many of my talented friends and band mates didn't make it.

As a teenager I picked up guitar and spent many, many hours learning from the Layla album. I never knew you all these years other than hearing your wonderful playing and singing. It occurs to me that Eric has never had or allowed another musician to hold as big of a part as you had in his music. It is kind of sad and I think that is why he has never been able to come close to that album over the years. I know bands can be a delicate balance of creative people to work well but that balance is where the best music comes from. I have watched a lot of your videos now and I’m so happy that I have gotten to know you better. Not just your entertaining stories but appreciating who you are as a person.

Dang it, Bobby! You pulled my heart right out this morning! Been enjoying your stories so much these last few weeks. You are right that too many people have it so bad during these times. I know that our experiences, both good and bad, shape us into the people we are today, but there is just so much time on the wrong end of the stick. The fact that you came out whole after all that you have been through is a testament to your character as a human being. I have always respected you, now more than ever. Peace to You, CoCo and the little ones that occasionally grace these videos.

Wow. When something like that happens to you as a child, you wonder what that person saw in you that made him think you’d be the right one to choose, and it creates a terrible sense of guilt. As a means of self-protection you try to block the memory, and that causes other problems. Until you force that memory open and realize that you were an innocent child, a sexless creature, assaulted by a predator, that guilt remains. If you’re looking for serenity you have to face that demon. I know. I have great respect for you for facing that demon, beating him, and sharing the story. It can really help some other people. I sincerely wish Peace and Love to you and your family.

Wow. Been watching now for a few weeks and digging it. I always knew who Bobby Whitlock was because I'm the type who reads liner notes and pays attention to composer credits and who played what instrument etc, and I had Layla on vinyl. I would still have the LP but I lost that whole record collection and a house full of guitars in Katrina in 05. The story about not getting composer on Bell Bottom Blues, how it hurt, and how you sold your catalog to start over and ultimately being redeemed when Clapton did the right thing and all your rights restored and BBB properly attributed was inspiring. So rare to hear such a happy ending.

Your honesty is now the word to me. I have watched and studied like "soul lessons" every video you 2 have made. Late last night this one got me and made me go OK I get it. "Why does love" to me, was such a standout song and I also bought George's albums and I saw him live, Traffic, ELP, etc SF-BA...then Leon and finally EC with Yvonne wiping his sweat. Then that History of EC & then the HODA one too, to learn, how & why. I was in HS in my 3rd foster home as my family burst into shattered pieces and I wanted to learn and move forward. Stand your ground and tell it like it is. Thank you both so much for these intimate funny and tear-jerking stories that remind me of why I am still obsessed with the guitar and R&R still to this day. Hell no! and Hell YES! Kind Regards, 👍 🙏 Maximum Respect, and Peace ~ Loo 👊 😎

Slight correction, Stigwood was not partners with Brian Epstein. Stiggy had been an assistant at NEMS, Epstein's management company. Stiggy later approached Robert Fitzpzatrick, the Beatles US attorney, and they formed the partnership Stigwood/Fitzpatrick, a management company. Stiggy had found a band called The Bee Gees while Fitzpatrick was involved with Cream. They also had a ton of other acts; The Buckinghams, Buddy Miles, Strawberry Alarm Clock and about 40 more. The Sergeant Pilcher fiasco (another entire story) hit Fitzpatrick hard. He and Stigwood parted ways. Clapton wanted Fitzpatrick to manage him exclusively but Fitzpatrick was too involved with other things. Clapton went with Stiggy and with RSO Records. Stigwood was in fact not a good person. The things he did to Barry Gibb are unforgivable. Stigwood/Fitzpatrick had offices in London, in the 9000 building on Sunset and in a converted water tower in NYC. Fitzpatrick also owned the Blue Jay Way house, where George wrote the famous song, up the windy roads above Sunset in "Birdland". I've been there numerous times. Fitzpatrick was my good friend and business partner for many years.

Thanks. I've always strongly felt that Robert Stigwood was responsible for Eric Clapton's giant rise to major fame and fortune. As a professional musician I've been with many incredibly talented players who should of tasted success but didn't. Yes you have to sell your soul to constantly be in the public's eye I don't care what anyone says.

Wow. What a beautiful man. An icon of strength and fortitude. If straight, Stigwood would've been considered a misogynist prick. You stood up to one of the many tyrants in the business at that time and his 'casting couch' at the risk of a musical career that never comes with a given life span. You didn't need to tell anyone your story, your actions is what manifested your career. God blessed you with a pure & righteous soul and the wisdom to nurture it. That was truly inspiring. God bless you.

My God, Bobby! I'm so glad you told Stigwood to get stuffed. What a creep. Fortunately I've never had those kind of experiences that you've had. I almost started crying myself when you were recounting that. You will always be a much bigger man than Stigwood no matter how much money and power he had. Blackball indeed!
