As you yourself said, really awesome visual description of your ingenious home manufacturing procedure and later your real-time, on-the-water,s ide-by-side performance comparisons, Coach! This provides a whole slew of technical answers not available online from Fliteboard & you continue to fill in the information gaps in an amazing, easy-to-understand way. I am certain I am not the only soon-to-be flier who appreciates (and admires) this of you. Thank you, Coach Rolando!
Great to know that is easy for you to understand...witch in return also makes you understand how to ride it...looking forward to hear your feed back once you start riding...and I also I have a "how to lear to ride a Efoil in depth"...check that out when the time comes...will hellp you a lot.
Thanks for this Rolando - at 75kg I get too much lift on my ultraL (flow 1100s 245stab) - I cut down and filed the #5shim to go under my zero shim and guess I got about -0.75 .. this has absolutely transformed the riding experience for me and means I can now hook turns with my foot over the mast 🤙
YES!!! Exactly...it bring your weight back making you have much more control...Ill be testing some "front negative shims"...keep eyes open for that video...but im super glad this helped you and your ride brother...Please share the love and try to help the Chanel...cheers bud
Awesome video rolando keep them coming great information. Since we last spoke I’ve ordered the larger, standard size Fliteboard 100L to try slow cruising with my dog on the cruiser 1800, and I’ll continue using the Ultra for everything else.
Thank you bud...hope it helps...Niiiiice...I had a JRT that I used to bring surfing and motorcycle ride with me all the time...Make sure you will make a video of it and post here for us bud...I hope you are having a blast wth your Ultra...I might be getting a ultra soon as well if I get into races, cheers
Totally agree with all of that: the strong push from the engine at the bottone(=nose up) has to be compensate with the tail pitch angle (shim). That is even more needed when the user is a light weight! I reckon also a -1.5* could be good! Thanks for this cool video mate! Fede
Honestly you don't need big numbers...I think the most that you want to go is a "Minus 1"...usually th "minus 0.25, 0.50. 0.75" and max 1" should be enough....but them again depends from person to person....thank you for the feed back and stay safe out there
Hey bud...not sure if you saw the video of the negative shims that my friend is making now...you might like it...ua-cam.com/video/Drk03gBn08A/v-deo.html
Great tip of keeping your back foot over the mast, it has helped immensely with keeping control of roll. Then you can just focus your front foot placement on pitch stability. I finally got my flow wing and went out for a quick run up the river, I went up to a +1 shim from the 0 and that was a big mistake. This wing allows you to carve so nicely, but it has a lot of upwards pitch. More than the cruiser starter wing, especially when you try throw it around. I wonder if the flow 900 would be better than trying to counteract the lift with stabiliser downforce.
Agreed....I think I will do better with the 900...specially cause I com from the flier witch is 800...I feel the "lift" was well, specially on the turnns...One thing I realize too...the tips of the wing tends to breach the water in sharp turns...and that can make you take a quick wipe out...LOL...I wish they had shops everywhere so you could try the wings first before you buy it....I deff think the 900 will be a better fit for me...So I just waisted $$$...ill try to see who wants to buy my 1100 so I can buy the 900...Yes...having the foot close to the mast helps...but off course you can have it off center as well. Now if you did not had the "torque" from the prop and were "wing foiling" you would deff want to have the back foot directly on the top of the mast...cheers my friend and let me know if you get the 900 before I do
Just discovered your channel, Ronaldo, great stuff, thanks for doing all these mods to your e-foil setup and showing us. It's very interesting. I wonder what size is your Gong Lethal and what's your weight in kilos? I am on the 105 litre lethal and I love it. But it would be even nicer with an Armstrong foil. Have you seen any of the SiFly efoil boards yet? Company in Europe making them, look to be good quality.
Hello bud...thank you for the feed back...I have a 4'10" lethal at 80L I believe ... Im at 195Lbs ...I think that is about 85K...I have also an 5'10" Armstrong at 100L... I love my Armstrong but I had to get something smaller...So the Lethal was the choice...However I have to be honest...since I got my Efoil I have not put the time on Wingfoiling...Im still struggling with the Lethal cause is way too short and narrow...deff a little challenge to get up on it specially in low wind condtiotions... I have was about to make a review on it but I dont think my skills are good yet to give a honest opinion...For now I can blame the difficulty to get on it on myself...So I'm trying to put more time on wing foiling and hopefully ill be able to give a honest review... As to the brand you mention I'm not familiar with it...How you like your Lethal? I got to put more time into the wing foil...but the Efoil is so easy and not depending on wind conditions is always the best way to go lol...please check out the other videos and let me know your feed back,,,cheers
Rolando, great video! Have you had any luck finding someone to print negative shims? I had made my own negative shim but would like to try a variety of sizes.
No...my friend who was thinking on making one on a 3D printer end up not doing...flitebord has not touched on the idea either...and I don't use Flow 1100 in flat water anymore...only on waves...but on waves you deff don't need the negative shim... But I Hope they will gt into that...I guess there is not a big demand...but I think they should have it anyways. How did you make your shim??
@@Coach_Rolando Sorry to hear that did not work out. I used some scrap vinyl that I had to make my shim. I removed the original shim and just use my home made shim. The front bolt tightens the wing directly against the aluminum structure and the new shim just goes under the back half of the wing. Looks very similar to the shim you made just my measurements are based on not using the original shim.
Interesting thanks for posting. Have you found any difference with how the board transfers from pushing through the water to getting on the plain. I found the higher shims could bog the back of the Board down as it transitioned from displacement to planing. Also do you think the negative shim makes the board anymore nervous when on the foil.
It all depends on the speed...I can go up on the foil on my level/gear 4 at a 0 degree shim (I use the pro board, the 1100 flow wing, and im 195lbs) I can also get on foil in the same level/gear 4 with the same set p using the negative shim...Basically the only thing that does it brings you back on the board so you center of gravity is closer to the mast...In another words if you go slow or faster the only things that does is that makes you stay closer to the mast rather making you go all the way yo the front as you go up on gears...Today was the first time I went up to 16 and my feet was way in the back...of course at high speed it becomes very unstable...However on my "cruising speed" 8/9, I feel much more stable on the negative shim then on the 0 Shim...at 8/9 level/gear Im very close to the mast so it makes more stable for me. Now my Friend Steve (representative of fliteboarod in MA) has a 3D printer...so we he will be making the real shims that will be much more accurate them mine....But as I said on the video fliteboarod is making too ...the question is when it will be available for us...I hope I was able to answer your question...cheers bud. and thank you for watching and the question.
Great amateur R&D, until your video I was skeptical as I can not understand why a supplier would give us 6 shims being only one side of the spectrum and also making the most used 0-shim super thick in and super sensitive to over torqueing. I'm sold now and have same set of 1100 Flow wings. Would advice you to make new shims yourself, since it's super low tech. Just make a mold using 0-shim. Fold can me in clay or "magic sand" then tilt the mold 0,75 egs or so and fill it with Soldering lead or molten alu if you can reach those temps. Have not tried myself yet, but will this weekend :-) Keep up the nice user videos Rolando. Greetings from Sweden.
Thank you for the comment...The reasoning I think that they did not made yet is because their main goal was to get people to learn how to foil faster...and also cause is a fairly new sport (efoil)...Armstrong Foil brand was the first one experimenting with "negative" shims...As they go faster and faster with the regular foil and as the waves gets bigger they found the necessity to have a negative shim to create less "lift" and promote more speed....Same concept with the EFoil...the problem is that the tork comes from the back of the foil and it will always generate more lift regardless...ISo that is why the foil needs a negative shim more than the regular foils....t is kind funky at first but you get the hang of it right the way. As I said...it is a new sport and as we all progress and get better they will have to adapt to our progression...I just saw a video of this 2 dudes with a fliteboarod riding the waves in nazare ... Even using the smallest "race wing" (the smallest and fattest in the fliteborad line) they were getting too much lift ... so fliteboarod custom made a few negative shims for them. So now they finally realized that there is a demand for it. My body here Steve (rep for fliteborard in MA) has a 3 D printer so he will be making a "proper" one for us...but rest assure that flitebord is working on it. Once I get the new ones ill make another video...also im on the process this Summer to do a video "1 year of use and 10 tips pros and cons about fliteboarod"...regardless it is a great efoil and I still don't hame much complain. Thank you for the idea of the mold...and please share your made shim on a video here once you have it done...thank you bud..
Cool bud...please let me know bone so I can video it and poste it. glad you like it...you got to try it out...I remember you mentioning that you don't like to ride on the front of your board...so we got to make diff "degree" for diff weight of riders.
Hi Rolando...thanks for sharing. Another question: do you know how to do motorservice for fliteboard and could share it? (I would like to be able to do myself after warrenty time has run out) Thank you.
Hey bud...I really don't...I have my regional guy Steve doing the work for me...I paid $200 and they looked at the motor and the battery...It is a new product and I hope the community will come up with solutions and help tips...for sure once I run out of warranty ill ask my friend steve to give me some indiders so I can share with you guys as well...until then I don't know what to tell you bud. thank you for watching my videos...cheers
Hello Kamohai..so far no...as I said...People from Fliteboarod are working on it and they say they will even make a download version so you can 3D print it...My friend Steve (rep for fliteboarod in NE) also asked his workers to scan and make some negative shims...However I think they should be in small "levels"...Meaning...Minus 25, minus 50, minus 75, minus 1...I don't think or see anyone needing a minus 1'50 or 2.0 ever.... But it all also depends on the wing size you are using...you are very light ...Im 195lbs...so if Im using the 1100 in flat water has too much lift for me...so I use my shim...but in waves is just right...but when I use the 900 I don't need the shim at all...and I'm crying at "9 to 10" ...so it all depends on the wing you are using...but off course the fast you go the more lift you will get...Im sure you should be ok with the flow 900 or the flier 800...ut them again at 140lbs the shims in flat water deff will prevent you from lifting your nose too much..Ill keep you posted...it looks like a 0.25 or a 0.50 will be the best for you. Thank you for watching...I just got another Fliteboarod...the 2.2 and Ill be making a review soon and give mote tips...have fun in the water bud
