Motta's Bologna have been playing high quality and innovative football for the whole current season. It's really going to be great to see his squad competing in the next Champions League... yes, they're very close to that historical achievement, and deservedly so.
Sadly it looks like he's leaving for Juve. Hopefully the Bologna squad manages to keep the quality for next year's champion's league but I think its gonna be tough
@@olliemartinelli4034 Probably the reason why he left: Bologna's owners absolutely could not guarantee him that key players like Zirkzee and Calafiori would stay. It's one of the absurdities of FFP: Bologna has a wealthy owner but he can't invest his own money into the club, which has to stay afloat through sponsors or selling players.
The fact than even with you perfect teaching about motta's tactics you used football manager mobile and i play it a lot so i can replicate the tactics 😅 thank you
@@bear_eater254 do you know Thiago better than he does? he said Gasperini was the coach he learned a lot from and who inspired him most, why do you insist ?
Using the sweeper keeper is the greatest introduction to football tactics. Keeper's role is very underestimated as a traditional one. 2 man defense at the back is very sufficient in most cases, but with defense overload as in with the compact 5 - 4 - 1 transition it becomes trying to say the least to score. As with any game the point of the game is to score goals, and here is where creativity in positional play comes to the fore. The mentioned 2 - 7 - 2 approach is this. Knowing that the ball is the more important factor than the player, and therefore, the aforementioned formation[2 - 7 -2 with 2 wide men on each side] is derived. This is a very brilliant approach to solve some of the goal scoring problems, but still the emphasis is on possession of the ball. Let us not take away from the fact that this is as yet a possession style of football. Playing with the ball as opposed to playing for the ball...but, by and large a very interesting solution to the problems of scoring goals. Cheers @DK Falcon
This analysis really is enlightening and I have found clear evidence of it on the first match of Juventus this season. Now I understand why they signed a new keeper who is good with his feet, Kalulu and Cabal as side backs (2 adapted CB) and why they are looking for other middle fielders with peculiar skills! I wonder what will be the place for Douglas Luiz and Koopmeiners in the starting 11!
Okan Buruk from Galatasaray has been breaking records recently in local championship but he deserves such a credit for the amazing dominant football Galatasaray played against Bayern and Man Utd this year. So a video on his tactics would be great as this one 👍
In this season especially both games against Bayern Munich in CL was great press schema and locking attack from wings just almost perfect. Sane, Kimmich couldn't deal with Boey in that schema and they immediatly came us to buy his clause. I cannot imagine what he can do with better players with this amazing tactical knowledge. We've already seen both games against Bayern Mun. already analysed by tacticians at some of the clubs in Premier League. Okan Buruk is great tactician with great communication skills. He can respond players needs in delacate time and thats why all players in team can do their best all the time. Im sure we will see him at Inter but as a coach one day.
Another amazing video! Thiago Motta was great player and he will also be a great coach, because he is a smart and modernist man. And now, we are waiting for the champion İnter video! Particularly, about perfect making game and move the ball to the third zone...
Looking at this tactical plays, reminds me of how we Brazilian play futsal but perfectly adaptable in football. Maybe he did get inspiration on this too
Are you talking about the 1990s and 2000s? Because since the late 2000s and the 2010s nearly all teams have lined up in variants of 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 and 3-5-2. 4-4-2 disappeared almost entirely
Great video, thanks. Please do a follow-up in few months with the analysis of how it works in Juve. I guess there will be some adjustments/adaptations/changes. And are the Juve players fitting this tactics. That would be interesting, at least for me. :)

Thx ! With Freuler, Ndoye and Aebicher learning from Tiago Motta 2-7-2 and Xhaka learning from Xabi Alonso 3-4-3 and Akanji listening to Pep Guardiola ! Switzerland have set up a tactic in the middle of the 3 ! And it works great at this Euro 2024 !
I remember Tifo doing a Video about his crazy Tactics at PSG Youth Teams years later he's doing it at the Very Top Level and given the fact Bologna have qualified for The Champions League, he's crazy Tactics ain't so crazy anymore.
For me it is still 4-1-4-1 i defence that change to 3-2-5 (2-3-5) in attack. Hardly a revolution😅 but how Bologna's transition looks it is very interesting. Great video! 😊
The '2-7-2' comment by Thiago Motta was a bit of a joke. He meant that rigid numbers don't make sense in modern football, and that the game can be seen from different angles. Instead of reading the formation from bottom to top, you could read it from left to right. Then you have 2 on the left (left back and left winger) 7 in the middle including the GK and 2 on the right (right back and right winger). This video explains well the fluidity of his approach, with every player contributing in defence or in attack depending on the situation, in a very innovative way.
Hey Falcon, great video as always. I have a reuqest if you are possible to do it. If you can, show us Oliver Glasner tactics of Crystal Palace, Palace doing so good rn, thanks.
As a barca fan who watches serie a sometimes, I really thought Thiago would be the best replacement for Xavi at barca not Hansi Flick❗ But now that Xavi's staying, we are looking forward for Thiago at barca for 2025/26 season or whenever Xavi leaves (no offence to xavi though, he has done great with the resources we have)...... Thiago Motta really suits our possession based playstyle, plus, he played for barca aswell....

Very helpful in explaining the interesting tactics. Unfortunately some big English errors - not sure if this is a result of using AI to translate - which slightly undermines the professionalism that is in the rest of the content. Example (7:50) "When they attack from the *central*"
Honestly nothing new under the sky. The concept was actually introduced by an Italian Trainer in the 80’s. Oronzo Canà with his innovative 5-5-5 was the one who re-invented the football tactic
its just a modern version of total football in fusion with possession tiki taka, it requires constant movement and fluid transitional play in every second in the game

Thiago Motta is a student of the genius Gian Piero Gasperini and he admits that he benefited greatly from him
His philosophy's basic fundamentals come from Barcelona as he even played for them.
Yes, Gasperini's pupils are taking over Serie A. Juric, Palladino, Motta and I think Gilardino as well also had spells playing for him in the past.

But in 32 of 38 games Skorupski played, not Ravaglia. And he nas completely different characteristics, definetely not a sweeper-keeper role.
