One of, if not the best review of this tent out there. Well done. My Yakima HD arrived yesterday. Waiting for the rack (back ordered) to install. Thank you for the awesome, detailed review.
Super clean! I’ve been looking at trucks for a pop up family truck camper and your videos are pushing me towards buying an older pre emissions diesel. I’m thinking a RAM with a 5.9 Cummins with a flat bed conversion and a pop up camper on the back.

What kind of anti condensation method did u use? A mat? Carpet tiles? Do the aluminum support rods condense? Also can you recommend a good fan for inside of it? Or is it even necessary? Is the fly hard to put on? Are there any gaps at the center fold hinges for bugs to get in?
So I am interested in the small bc i would like ti still use my Yakima j bars for my Kayak. I have the overhaul on a GMC canyon with 60” cross bars. I believe only Thule and Guana make a true 24”wide RTT but i would prefer yakima for a half dozen reasons. What are your thoughts?
So, the issue I have is that I have a Jeep and the Roof itself has DYnamic weight of 165, and the crossbars weight 15 so I have about maybe 135 or so if I want to have tent on Jeep JL to go off rading with tent on jeep? THe 95 lb small size would be nice, but think the medium at 115lb is just about right. Other options I was looking at was Thule Explorer Ayer 2 (lots cheaper, weight about 108?) and the Silverwing sw80s RTT. So, thinking of goign to Alaska with tent, to visit a buddy and would love to camp on Al-Can highway on the way from utah to Fairbanks. Is the price of the Yakima worth it? I do have racks, I do know that Yakima has Jeep JL compatible racks as well.
Hey my man I just put a full on camper on my 97 CCLB4X4 7.3. I'm off work right now (Carpenter) and am going to hit the road for a few months. We are both from 805. I'm heading through your area in a week or two...maybe we could meet up at your convenience. I've been wanting to take some pics of your OBS with mine. I don't do media really...is there a way to shoot you some pics to show you the rig....you'll dig it...
Helpful review. Thanks. Another reviewer said that they couldn't attach the rain fly on the tent with the slim shady awning installed. Did you find that to be a problem? I'm looking at buying both.
Was wondering if this thing can be opened up so the entrance of the tent is at the tailgate of the truck as I’d like to use this for a music festival but the cars are all parked side by side with only having room behind you.
Thanks for the video. You pretty much had me sold up until you said something along the lines “...probably not a good idea for longer stay...”. What would be a good recommendation for long term (i.e.: around 3 yrs)? Thanks.
Hey, I use my ram 3500 as a hotshot hauling truck, unfortunately I need access to the bed for gooseneck/fifth wheel trailers. Is it possible to mount one of these ontop of the cab of my crew cab?
I think you misunderstood. The loctite isn’t on any of the removable fasteners for the rack or hand fasteners for the tent. It’s just on the bolts that attach the tent base plates to the actual tent bottom itself.
Hi is it okay to put the sky rise hd small on tesla model 3 given the ratings for roof rack is 150 lbs dynamic load 495 lbs static . I have the ikamper skycamp mini but it weighs 125 lbs
I’m in the market to get a rrt. This fought my eye and was wondering if it’s a universal rrt to racks.. or is their Yakima rack required for this to bolt on?
How far from the cab did you mount the tent? I just got the same tent and mounting it on a Yakima Outpost HD rack can't fit the metal rod for the fly into its hole without hitting my cab/antenna. I have a short bed Tacoma, so can't really move it back very far, but I don't see how this would work with any truck since the rods are inserted perpendicular to the body.
I’ve slept in some pretty nasty storms with this tent! It isn’t as comfortable as a hard shell camper, but the fabric is thick enough to handle wind pretty well.
@@1coopcoop you can fit two sleeping bags, a blanket or two, and a thin pillow, but everything has to be laid out flat and compress down to almost nothing or it won't close well!
So you have to buy the yakima rack first? Thats already $1000 on its own.. then the tent system that's another $2000 and $500 for other accessories.. that's close to. $4000 ? Ouch
2200usd for a tent? You better live in it for that much. You can buy an awesome tent for 200 that you will never get wet in, for another 200 an great sleeping bag and mattress. Those you can actually fit in your backpack too. For 2200 bucks you might as well get a slide on camper. Either get a slide on camper, or a tent for the ground. This is a weird in between. You can also only set up your tent where your truck can park which is a huge disadvantage. When you are on top of a truck like that you are going to get way more wind. Also it costs 2200 bucks, for some fabric and poles. Good review though

Thank you! Enjoy the tent! I’m loving mine.
the tent will only work with a round truck bed rail ?
@@AmazonWebService98 it will work with both the round and aero dynamic rails. The tent brackets come with inserts to accommodate the round racks.
Alright, brother, you got my click 😂🤷♂️
You got caught lacking
Me too
Nice because of this channel Among others I bought a 2006 ram 2500 for over landing love it so far!
You should do a video about all the gear you take with you when you are doing a quick camping trip
Thank You for presentation . I’ll go order the non adjustable rack and the larger tent tomorrow . Hope it won’t be a long wait on the back order .

Awesome set-up, loved all the driving shots in this video as well! Thank you.
You have some of the nicest trucks I've ever seen. What do you do for a living?
What kind of blanket is that?
No response yet?
I'm planning on getting an RTT set up on my long bed next year. Goal is to still be able to open the toolbox and put mountain bikes on the tailgate.
This channel don’t get the respek it deserves...

Simple easy to the point
Just made my choice thank you
FYI diesel truck fan forever will never buy gas

Do the aluminum support rods condense?
Also can you recommend a good fan for inside of it? Or is it even necessary?
Is the fly hard to put on?
Are there any gaps at the center fold hinges for bugs to get in?
There is a flap to cover the hinge gap. A bug would have to be very determined to get inside.
How's the bug repelling? Screens keep em out? I do a lot of camping in the south east of America where mosquitoes are rampant
Completely keeps them out until you open the screen!

Great video. Can you place the tent, North and South. We’re the ladder is on the back, over the tail gate?
Yep! It’s just a swap of the bracket position!
Excelent video. Im write from Argentina. You recomanded this kit for my Nissan Frontier.
"like drowned rats!" on the floor laughing....great work!
Would you happen to remember what trail/camp spot this is at in Big Bear?
Would have been nice if you would have shown what it takes to actually set up this tent.
You literally just unzip the cover and open it up! Pretty standard for any RTT!
Sweet rig...add all that up and maybe just do a small bed camper? Used?
Thought about it, but I like how easily removable this setup is so my truck can still use it for truck duty!
@@JustDiesels ok true..i ended up putting a ROAM XL on top of a racked cargo trailer..chuck wagon and accommodation!

Nope! I use both all the time. Just make sure that they don’t block each other and you’re good!
@@JustDiesels Great. Thanks for the reply.
What sort of lift you got on that beaut??
Could you be specific about where you used the LocTite, especially if you are taking the tent on and off on a regular basis. Thanks!
Specifically the bolts connecting the tent rails to the actual plastic tent base! Those love to wiggle their way out.
Really like the setup 👍🏻
Was wondering if this thing can be opened up so the entrance of the tent is at the tailgate of the truck as I’d like to use this for a music festival but the cars are all parked side by side with only having room behind you.
Yeah! You can position the exit however you like!
is the truck full size dodge ram? is medium skyrise hd too big for chevy colorado short bed?
My truck is technically a full size with a 6 foot bed, but this would work fine on a short bed Colorado!
Nice setup man 🔥🤘
Thanks for the video.

If you want to live out of your vehicle for years at at time, something like a gofast or even a 4wheel camper is much better suited.
Thank you for a great review!
Damn good video! 👍🏾
Another great video bro!!
Hey, I use my ram 3500 as a hotshot hauling truck, unfortunately I need access to the bed for gooseneck/fifth wheel trailers. Is it possible to mount one of these ontop of the cab of my crew cab?
Actually yes. You’d just need to install a roof rack!
Nice truck bro
Nice. Does the floor seem strong? Is it alloy?
It’s actually a plastic polymer to keep weight down. It’s plenty strong though!
@@JustDiesels Thank you for all the info.
Sooo.. you locktite it, but you can take it off by hand? How do you take the tent on/off so easily if it's all locktit'd down?
I think you misunderstood. The loctite isn’t on any of the removable fasteners for the rack or hand fasteners for the tent. It’s just on the bolts that attach the tent base plates to the actual tent bottom itself.

I moved it just far enough back that they clear! It’s harder to install the front rods, but I have no issue fitting them!
With this setup could you still have a tonneau cover or does the racks make it impossible to have?
It only works with specific rack friendly covers. A standard bed cover will not work with these bed rail racks sadly.
Works with a diamond back bed cover
Can the tent be installed with the ladder coming off the rear
Thanks
Yep! You can mount it however you like.
how did you get the 4th gen mirrors to work ???
What is the weight capacity? Many thanks
The rack has a capacity of 500 pounds 👍
@@JustDiesels many thanks
Can it handle high wind like 20+ per mile???
I’ve slept in some pretty nasty storms with this tent! It isn’t as comfortable as a hard shell camper, but the fabric is thick enough to handle wind pretty well.
That truck !! awesome
Do you keep your bedding in it when you pack it up?
I won’t store the sleeping bags in there for months at a time, but if I’m doing back to back trips I just leave everything inside.
Another bedding question, how much bedding do you think you could leave in and still collapse without a problem (sleeping bags & pillows)? Thanks
@@1coopcoop you can fit two sleeping bags, a blanket or two, and a thin pillow, but everything has to be laid out flat and compress down to almost nothing or it won't close well!

A truck camper would look deadly on that truck...just sayin 😉
It would! Sadly I can’t easily remove that when I want my truck bed free!
Just Diesels a camper on electric jacks could be off your truck in the amount of time it takes you to setup that roof top tent. They are pretty slick.
