That looks like a really nice design with just the right mix of minimalism and performance/convenience features. And thank you for the fab informative review as per usual!
Best case I've seen so far for the price. Great value.
It's worth mentioning that the Pi 4 can do 1080p60 in h264 and 4k60 in h265 using hardware decoding. UA-cam uses h264 so just make sure you have hardware acceleration enabled and h264ify extension installed in Chromium. There's tutorials online that show you how to do it.
Oh ok. Show us a screen cap of a pi4 playing a 1080p60 or 4k60 video on UA-cam at the full source resolution and at the full 60fps. We’ll wait.
@@grahamc87 the problem is software support for hardware decoding from the web browser.. Unfortunately a major issue on linux still.
@@myslav1805 almost all desktop linux software uses va-api. Raspberry Pi doesn't support it so it's not a linux issue
@@alexk4894 definitely not a linux issue, but it turns out to be because browsers dont usually support it oob and you even have to install special driver packages for it to work. I tried to get hw decoding working in both chromium and firefox and only had some success with firefox. That's on intel coffee lake graphics, mind you.
yeah if you use h264 UA-cam is not nearly as bad as people pretend it is on Pi.
you could also just use kodi for it too
I picked up the pro v2 and love this thing, having the hard drive inside the case has made this the most portable pi gaming system ever. Planning to get a portable screen at some point so i can play in the car when im waiting for someone to get back.
That's a fantastic price set and love that ssd enclosure! Thanks for the feature, might have to get one.
A lot of these Pi accessories are stupid expensive considering they're running with a raspberry pi but this one seems really reasonably priced at 30 bucks
Go with the Argon V2, it's really nice.
@@Mr.Smith101 Wow that is really cool and only $25 on amazon with free one-day shipping. Thanks!
@@Watchandlearn91 You're welcome. You won't be disappointed.
the 30 bucks doesn't include daughter board
because if supply chain issues and it’s smaller market. one reason what mac add ons are pricey too.
Looks well made! And highlights the deficiencies of the Pi 4 design.
This is the best case I've seen for the RPi. Very nice!
That's a pretty neat case. Definitely one of the better ones I've seen.
Thank you very much! this is definitively the best case on the market. Regards and Good Luck!
ive been using this for retropie.threw a tinty sega sticker on the front an i love it.
Thanks for the video. Love that nuphy keyboard too.
Good stuff as always! However my favourite case at the moment is RETROFLAG PiStation Case Pi 4 Case with 800x480 Pixel 3.4 inch LCD Screen & Stereo Speakers! Really cool! This is your fault because of your review! The only problem I have is a low voltage warning with LCD screen attached and with official RiP PSU at 5V 3A.... Just ordered more beefy PSU from the UK PiHut - 3.5A at 3.25V. I should confess that my Pi is OC and occasionally I hook some additional peripherals as well.
Just bought a few of those retro tape cassette hd cases they look amazing
that casette case is looking so cool.
Just got the argon one v2. Besides giving my capture card issues, very worthwhile having these kind of cases
i have the same case
Best case I've seen so far for the price. Great value 💔
Omg cassette case enclosure, I already ordered it one 👍😀
I bought a Deskpi. It turns the RPI4 from a fair to middling SBC (as a desktop computer) to a useful desktop computer, especially now that the 64 bit Raspberry Pi OS is officially supported. I still like the Odroid N2 Plus better as a desktop.
That daughter board idea is super clever, very neat idea.
great review... thanks!
A M2 version would have been so perfect.
Too bad, my heart still goes out to the Argon One M2 :)
Wonder what the limitation is... do SD cards max out the USB 2.0 bus? I doubt it. Would be great to see a UFS card version of this... no dongles, a slim profile, and SSD like latency.
just finished turning my Pi 4 into a mini PS1 with the pistation case with thousands of games on it. runs Ps1, N64, atari 2600, NES, SNES, Saturn, Dreamcast GBA and GBC. even overclocked it up to 2 ghz!
@Monte Veskeii mines the 4gb model, im using the latest version of Retropi OS not Rasberry OS. i went into the config file on pc with Notepad ++ and changed the overclock settings to 2000 and the over voltage to 6. you can find videos on YT that show how to do this. my case also came with a fan for the cpu so overheating isnt an issue.
Nice video, like it, thanks for sharing :)
That is really neat.
Super cool !!
This build will work really well as a tv streaming box.
That cassette enclosure made me click the video, that thing is cool
I usually use my Pi without casing... it makes it cool.
Litteraly
Such a pragmatic and good looking design. What you need on the front side only, connectors on the rear side, GPIO still reachable, 2 extra USB ports & micro HDMI to HDMI conversion ? It's a deal!
Thank you.
I really like this...maybe more than I like my Argon case.
That's a cool keyboard, what is it? Thanks for the great video!
I've just ordered the cassette tape through your link. I'm looking into the deskpi as well for when I pick up my next pi4. Thank you for the great video.
I subscribed!
I have to ask though, what is that keyboard you are showing near the end of the video? I love how it looks.
DUDE this is $30, this is probably one of the best if not the best case right now. For 40 bucks you get the full kit with the sd card, power supply, extra cables and stuff.
Great content. Btw what keyboard is that?
Looks sweet.
I ordered mine yesterday. Thank you for another great video! I would really like to see how you can mount this to the back of a monitor with a stand and which VESA plate to use. Thanks.
That is a great case.
Great video ETA, I think everyone is curious to know how the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 handles temps and thermal throttling, we'd love a video from you about this.
Nice video!
Btw I would like to know which keyboard you are using in this video ;)
The best one I saw ever...
looks awesome just wish they did a version where its got a SSD & Hi def DIAC in one case!
I used RPi4 8G for my arcade cabinet.
Your the man !
where did u buy the cassette enclosure?
This question needs to be answered asap. I need one of them in my life 🤣
The link is in the description
Yeah, if only he could of posted the link in his video description, that would be so convenient. Oh wait, there it is, right there in the video description. Imagine that.
There is this Chinese company that sells the enclosure with an hdd amd load it with isos and roms kinda shady but hey
Orico is a well established Chinese brand of storage - related products. I have nvme enclosure , 2.5 one and couple of cables. Good price/quality ratio. This cassette thingy unfortunately has usb 3.0 micro, the worst connector type ever created, I wish they had it with type c...
1:42. Small size fun produce high noise level and vice versa.
Damn that keyboard is clean
Nice video! Which keyboard is that? Love the colors
like the design, like that it has the power button on the front of the case which is one of the things i do not like about the argon one.
gettting that casstte box to make a music only drive. thanks!
Thanks for the informative video. How sensitive is it to the power supply? Can you use any old 5 Volt external battery or will it only work with one of those power adapters especially made for the Pi?
the pi so SOOOO close to being a lightweight desktop replacement but it's just not quite there yet
I know, right? I'd say 2-3 more generations & it should be a good replacement
yea it's just not powerful enough :(. there are computers with the Pentium Silver N6000 which are fully passively cooled and not too expensive !
all we can do is wait for the fifth
Once they stop popping on cheap SoCs, it'll be there.
ROCK5 Model B
Got some older model PIs, want to do something with them. :)
Perfect was to also have support for M.2! Maybe next time :P
@ETA PRIME it would be awesome if you could show us how to build a LapCade, by clipping a tablet to a Fightstick, (like those phone / controller clips, but bigger), then put an emulator and a nice frontend on it, maybe even have it boot right into the frontend (Windows tablet?), and add a portable speaker to turn it into a nice, jamming, lightweight LapCade / Jukebox!
It is a nice looking case. That said, for $65 you have other options if you just want a small cheap linux computer, like x86 thin clients or android boxes
to me the Pi4 is just not quite there for a full desktop replacement, the 4Gb+ overlocked is dam close, but on general use of just Doc typing, UA-cam surfing, Photo editing etc I feel like there is a bit of pause here and there, a few drop frames etc, Pi5 Im sure I will be able to use it as a desktop.
Hi Prime, what keyboard was that colorful one in this video?
Hi. Where can I buy your keyboard? Looks really good.
If you want to use this as a desktop it really should have an M.2 slot. Perhaps they can make a version that allows an upgrade. But, otherwise a very nice case.
What is that keyboard? btw love the video
This looks sleek! Did you have to add any code to get the power button to work in the front for safe shutdown?
Wow excellent video.
I like the keyboard where to find one like that.??
The only thing this has over the Argon case is the two USB ports in the front. Not sure if that's compelling enough to call it an upgrade over the Argon. I like the size of the Argon and the metal surface & premium feel.
Awesome videos, I am looking to use this for remote printing, Basically connect this to the copier/printer and be able to print from sitting at different location ? I would appreciate your help!
hello, thank you for this video and the discovery of the products presented.
What is the version of linux installed on the presentation of the RPI? greeting
Love this hdd Case
I prefer Nes pi Cartdridge for HDD 😍😍😍
I love to purchase a Pi unit but I'll wait for Pi 5.
Would you recommend this or the pro version? Like is it worth the extra 40 bucks for the deskpi pro?
Very nice... what OS was it running?
Seems like the Argon One is still the case to beat, being $5 cheaper with metal construction. I suppose it comes down to aesthetics - this is a bit more "business-like" than the Argon.
Could you link your keyboard (and mouse if a combo)?
Pretty sure seeing as this is a RaspberryPi that some code could be fiddled to switch the power indicator lights? Red for off and blue for on would make more sense to me rather than vice versa as it stands
How does the usb2 get from the pi to the daughter board? Is it via the usbc power socket on the pi?
I love tour keeboard. What model IS it ?
Excellent!! How much would everything cost including the 8GB Pi? I would probably run puppy Linux from a USB stick like I do on all my regular desktop PCs. I don't like boated Linux distros.
The metal shield covered the Wi-Fi/BT chip, will this block wireless signal?
Hey ETA, thank for the video, wanted to know what keyboard are you using at the end of the video ?
Thanks
Same for me. Very interested into this one. Thx!
It's the nuphy air 75.
I like how it turned into an Android TV box as far as looks go.
Hy eta prime Can you test modern and old émulation and gaming on crt monitor ?
Je remercie le bon boulot que vous faites !
Hi, first thanks for the informative video. 👍. My question however is ‘what is the make and model of the colorful keyboard’?
for everything included, 30 bucks is a pretty good deal
What's that Keyboard looks pretty cool imo
What do you think about that keyboard? Considering buying it
You should do a video on that Air75.
hey, great video!! Could you please test whether the promised fan control works with your case under rasbios 64bit? I also bought the case because you can control the fan, but somehow it doesn't work.
I would if I could get my hands on a board. 😂
Great video. Where did you get the fake plant pot from?
I got a passively cooled miniPC J1800/4G RAM/120G SSD with an external PSU on an aftermarket for $35. I bet this is the price to align with )
So it can do pretty similar to the GeeekPi Acryl Raspberry Pi Set-Top-Box [~10$]
but costs 3x for PWM fan, on/off switch and GPIO accessable without further purchases?
If you don´t need the GPIO, I stick with the cheap GeekPi case, fan set to 3.3V, USB-on/off switch.
Hello Mr. ETA PRIME. Question: How do you make a live animated desktop (wallpaper?), it looks pretty cool.
I use a app called wallpaper engine
@@ETAPRIME Thank you! You are my hero...when it comes to retro games and emulation news, thank you.
@@ETAPRIME Too bad it's "Windows Only"...
what is that wireless keyboard you are showing at 7:28?
The extra USB is a major plus! Two things I'm not sure about:
- If the fan break how easy will it be to change it
- I need that ssd extension really bad
Case look neat though
Get the pro version for $60 can take a 2.5” ssd and has an ice tower cooler and is aluminum vs plastic
@@greekmanx already had the pro version. It was amazing. I had to return it because there was an issue with the fan. I currently have the geekworm x825-c8 plus a couple of accessories.
I understand that with a teensy and a rpi4 I can make a Dirtywave M8 Tracker. Do you know of a case that is good to hold this and a 4.3 capacitive touch screen to end up looking a bit like the M8 Tracker?
With NVMe support (daughter board?), this would be perfect.
That would be the DeskPi pro I think 🙂
Why would you need 2 full size HDMI? Just curious. ps. Not sure if you need 2 screens for pi. What would be the use case?
off topic question .. What keyboard is that you're using in this video ?
what keyboard is that? looks yummy!
Does the power button shut down the operating system? Or does it just kill power to the unit?
Where did you get the keyboard from?
what keyboard is that towards the end?
