@@bbbabrock Little Sue (Portland) did a great cover of "What Goes On" at a place called the Laurelthirst Pub back in the mid 90's. Susannah Weaver is her name - Little Sue was the band.
I'm 56, and I'm just recently learning about some great bands that existed back when I could have easily found them at the record store, but was busy listening to more mainstream rock and hair metal (not that there was anything wrong with those bands, either). I wish I had known then about bands like The Hoodoo Gurus, The Dream Syndicate, The Feelies, and more. Unfortunately, we didn't have the internet to easily discover new music back then, just radio, TV and word of mouth.
@@lawrencehorner8418 60 here, I was the same until I accidently found the Ithaca College Radio station back in early 80s, the first song I heard on it was Lloyd Cole "Brand New Friend", the rest is history. Cheers
My mom would play this on her stereo& it felt ike cold weather days & happiness...She also would play The Smiths & They Might Be Giants, The Chills..so much!! Thank you for sharing!! Peace & Music ☆♡☆OpaL..from New Orleans Louisiana ☆
I don’t know what year it was but I went to see them at the Beacon Theater in NYC. They opened for Lou Reed. All the people I talked to were shocked that I came to see them instead of L.R.
I was a 17 year old boy when this was released. The lyrics and vibe of this song were my therapist for at least the next 5 years. It is my mantra to this day. God bless Feelies
Underplayed and understated. This band was the epitome of cool, and this song contains lyrics that are so aloof and disaffected. Kind of a signpost for The Feelies.
What does it mean What can you do about it What can you say You don't even know about it Nobody talks Nobody listens Well look around Yeah look out your window They're having a ball Having a party Well come inside You can do what you like Well it's a nightmare It's all negative Nothing matters And what if it did You could lock your doors Close all your windows and Hide away It's only life
This is cool. Back in 1993 I lived in this flat and one of the guys there had this album and I always liked it but I forgot what it was called. For some reason I thought it was a Jayhawks album but then by chance I discovered this tonight on UA-cam and clearly remember the album cover. The mystery is over. Ain't it rad when stuff like that happens?
@@shmizzleshmazzle9830 A&M certainly does have material on Spotify. My guess is they don't want to pay a band they completely forgot about... Similar fate for so many bands that made the mistake of signing with a major label. They put greed over music and art.

Edit: The less-is-more attitude and Velvet-influenced vibe worked perfectly. Thanks to Mark Scott for his correction: Peter Buck was not producer or co-producer on this record.
This is one of those songs that just never gets old.
SWT_Reviews A lot of bands base their entire career on t guitar riff from "What Goes On. And yes, I could listen to it forever w/o it getting old.

39 years of my life wasted NOT knowing about this band.....Today marks a new chapter of my life listening to this band
Amazing 👏
Me too. (>39) Currently touring, so get out there and see them!

The Smiths! TMBG! The Feelies! The Chills! If you add The Go Betweens to that list it would be my list as well..
I don’t know what year it was but I went to see them at the Beacon Theater in NYC. They opened for Lou Reed. All the people I talked to were shocked that I came to see them instead of L.R.
But I bet Lou Reed was 😢pretty damn good too! You need a busload of faith to get by

Found this record at the antique shop over the weekend - so good 👍
I caught the drum stick tossed into the audience at the Roxy when they toured this album. The energy was awesome at the show.
this whole album is solid
Indeed it is...❤
But This is the best song on the album
There are no dislikes...It may be the only thing on the internet without a dislike. Don't be a wiseacre and dislike it. It's sublime and only life.
That bass, and guitar solo just sound meltable
I saw them in Providence recently and they were awesome.
Was that at the Met? I was there too, love that place. Great show

Thinking of a old friend from my Boston days. May 2020
I've found myself singing these lyrics internally a lot lately given the madness of the world and it's been therapeutic
Keep going. : )

What can you say
You don't even know about it

Close all your windows and
Hide away

Right. He can't sing.
That's not the point. Joey ramone couldn't sing either
