I've been wanting Ciri as a protagonist since we got to play as her the first time. I'm not entirely convinced she needed to undergo the rights, but I'm willing to hear why she did. I do miss her with the greenish eyes, I think the yellow eyes completely changes how she looks, but we'll see how she looks in-game. I am cautiously optimistic, because CDPR has show that they can blow the launch of a game like the rest of them.

She didn't NEED to undergo the rights, she wanted to ever since childhood. And it's basically the only choice she's ever been offered instead of forced upon her. I think it makes 100% logical sense.

@@Slvrbuu I quite like her eyes idk, now Ciri plays like a witcher, it will feel better as that is what you want from a witcher game, all these cool gameplay features having her with her elder blood powers or another way wouldn't have worked, there is a path to reach to her reaching the witcher stage, it will probably feel natural when we play it, i hope so anyways if done right

To be fair a lot of cyberpunk biggest launch issues was that they tried to force it on older consoles. Granted there was a lot of other stuff kinda missing and whatnot but the game was pretty competent and solid on good rigs and the next gen consoles. And at least they kinda got it there to a good point. Also curious how much of an overlap the teams have also. Hopefully they just learned the lesson that their cyberpunk fudge up could teach them

100% agree. This comes from someone who's entire high school (Liceum) got addicted to the Witcher due to our Polish teacher including The Witcher into our lecture canon. He even showed us ORIGINAL copies of the Fantastyka magazine with the first ever printed (1986) Witcher stories. Back then he himself was a student and the Witcher made him fall in love with literature, so he decided to become a Polish / literature teacher. Oh, and he cosplayed for us Geralt (that was like 15 years ago). How fckn cool is that?
The Witcher for us Poles is so much more than just a story. Its a reflection of our history, worries and feelings. For a lot of us the Witcher was the key to process and escape our troubled past and strive for a better tomorrow no matter how fcked the world is.
The Witcher is pain and pain is feeling alive.

  • @dimvision6616
    @dimvision6616 3 години тому +6

The disconnect for some people i think also comes from the choices they've made in game especially the endings, head cannons are different for a lot of people mainly because of what endings they got and it's no surprise if they don't like it because the choices they've made aren't reflected in the next entry, For me personally it's too early maybe they can still do something about it.
This is also the problem with making established characters make choices in game, there's often a disconnect between "Player Choice" and "Character Characterization" one good example of this is the age old debate is it yen or triss? Book geralt will never pick triss over yen because of the amount of backstory that geralt and yen have and yet in some people's head cannon it totally makes sense for them to pick triss so massive disconnect there. Imo for a game heavily themed around choice and consequence it's best to have a commander shepard like character that players can shape themselves.

My thoughts about her powers and how they might explain their absence in TW4:
She loses it by fulfilling her destiny by stopping the White Frost and/or she loses it by undergoing the Trial of the Grasses.
Both would be fitting and be completely logical within the world and the extended lore they build around the game charachters and everyhting else.
Personally, I absolutely do not care at all how they will explain it and I tell you why:
I'm a father of 2 unimaginal incredible and beautiful girls and I'm loving them to death. They are the best thing that has ever happened to me,
and I literally couldn't imagine a happier life to live in ever. I love my wife, but I would literally die for them.
The reason why I'm telling you this is, one of the happiest days of my entire life was, when my youngest daughter decided to follow in my footsteps becoming a traditional carpenter master,
to work in our almost 300 years old family company and take it over from me at some point. I've never felt so proud in my entire life and this is anything I ever could wished for.
So seeing Ciri also following Geralt's footsteps makes me actually tearing up.
The only thing I'm a little bit afraid of is, if I will find enough time to play the fourth (and possible fifth and sixth) game. That's my only concern regarding the games.

I can understand some of the complaints about Ciri's looks in the trailer for one at least to me if it wasn't for the scar and the ashen hair I wouldn't have known it was Ciri it looked nothing like her from the Witcher 3 even aged up from what I could tell but it has been awhile since I played last. And in my opinion a downgrade but not bad so to each there own not a big issue. My big issue is the lore breaks cause by having Ciri being a Witcher and not just being on the Path. For one everything we know about the trail of grasses one doesn't work on adults and two she had to stop taking the elixirs or whatever when she was a kid to prepare her to go through the trail of grasses because it was harming her if I recall correctly aka on Triss's orders. Also girls tended to die in higher number from the trail so it would be extremely dangerous so I don't think her loved one would approve which would have a major influence her decision to under go any Witcher mutation trails. Now one that not sure people realize that making her a Witcher would break a fundamental rule the the Witcher universe. Destiny is Absolute. The reason she was important in the books was not because of her power but because of her elder blood or AKA as we know it today her DNA that carries the Elder blood. And it was destined that the linage of the elder blood would unite the land and rule over it. Which is why everyone from the Wild Hunt to Lodge of Sorceresses to Emperor Emhyr were after her and trying to control whom she had offspring with. Which if she becomes a Witcher she would become infertile unless they decided oh no this trail of grasses didn't make her infertile. Or you could have the ending to the books that was hinted at be Cannon and she is just a terrible mother abandoning her child in another world and never mentioning them. Not to mention without her space and time magic she would be hunted down and given to a prince in the north or back to her father. And don't act like now that she doesn't have the space and time magic she would be able to out run them. Hence why Yennifer, Geralt and Ciri decided to give in to what lodge of sorceresses wanted at the end of the last book before the events the led to the start of the Witcher game series. Doesn't mean it will be a bad game or that the story they have is bad just some warning signs that this might not be lore accurate and that they are entirely deviating from aspects of the Witcher universe and that some things will not make sense. But I might be entirely overthinking this lol.

In the trailer, when Ciri enters the canyon, you can hear geralt say something about a ritual that worked and Ciri saying "I wasn't suppose to come back" so I think they used a ritual to bring her back from the world with the frost. Maybe because of this ritual she lost her elder blood abilities like the teleport (I mean, why isn't she using it in the trailer) and as a replacement she undergoes a different type of trial, maybe with the laboratory under Geralts Villa in Toussaint and/or the help of Keira and the Lynx school..there is so much to think and speculate about, Ciris new and older look is the least interessting topic 😂

There's nothing that can substitute the wisdom obtained by long years of experience.

The Witcher 4 trailer has like a 12 to 1 like to dislike ration. People love it.
We have a tiny handful of Book/Lore purists and the Hyper Anti-Woke crowd shouting and trying to make a scene. But they aren't getting any traction.
The vast majority of players are excited about Ciri as the main character. She looks fine, and this is a trailer . . . her look will be different in the actual game anyway.

I'm on board with Ciri as the main character, but I wish they focus more on her Elder Blood abilities instead of making her another Witcher. She was easily capable of hunting monsters as herself, and I fear this decision to give her Witcher powers will make her feel like Geralt but with a female skin (especially considering how similar they already look with the hair, scar and now also the armor). They also better come up with a damn good explanation as to why she would so callously go through the trial of grasses after finally not having to worry about the Wild Hunt.

  • @Pirapaca
    @Pirapaca 22 хвилини тому

I agree on the point where if we are to have a female protagonist or even any kind of protagonist, then make it a good and well-written character. Game devs shouldn't just make a character to fulfil a quota, there should be an actual meaning and purpose to those characters being chosen as the protagonist. And CDPR has yet to fail in delivering a well-written character so far for me. Also the beauty standards! Do people know that once upon a time, plump women were seen as desirable? It's because they were seen as healthy and fertile. Nowadays, people want skinny models and any sign of plumpness is seen as fat. Beauty standard changes with the era just as how certain societal standards change with time.
My only complain with TW4 is why Ciri?
I honestly thought we were going to get a new original character from a different and original Witcher school. The initial teaser we got some years back had fans screaming that it might be a fan-made School of Lynx(?) or something like that. A new region, a new school, and a new protagonist would have gotten more hype from me than seeing Ciri follow in Geralt's footsteps. I like the idea that they are all a happy family, retired together in Toussant in that huge vineyard that Geralt got from the Duchess. And if they are doing any Witcher-y stuff it would be to hunt those stray monsters that bother the locals.
But hey, I'm not CDPR. I'll wait here impatiently and see how the game goes as we get more and more trailers and information on it from them.

I get the argument that yeah geralt has had an ending, but because he's the protagonist it feels to me at least like the world moves with him. I didn't exactly read a lot of the first book but I think the wild hunt was teased from the very beginning, so tw3 feels like closure not just for geralt but also all the characters that went through their own developments.
Also one of the main reasons I'm cynical is that it's called the witcher 4, like the first 3 witcher games have followed the story of geralt just like the books, and slapping the number 4 after it carries a lot of weight and implies the continuation of this whole story.
And that's a big red flag to me because if they're confident in the direction they're taking, surely they would respect the closure of tw3 and give the story of ciri a new title. Just reminds me of movies like the matrix 4 or gladiator 2 that I don't think anyone asked for lol
I think there's some hope though because at least they delivered with cyberpunk, so as long as they still have the talent I'm sure they won't blow it like mass effect did, I just wished they either made it really clear the ciri story is a whole new thing or they just worked on remastering the first game

Basically they got turned from Ciri's enemy into Geralt's and then clumsily returned to their lore-accurate goal in the third game. Very silly to get upset over a name that's there for entirely marketing reasons. It very much isn't closure for anyone other than Geralt and whichever love interest he picks. Ciri still becomes a witcher which is now the canon ending and this is the natural continuation of her story.

If people's problem is with how Ciri looks in the trailer, I get it, she looks a little off but not bad. The larger point is the way a character looks in a trailer is not the final look of how they will be in game. Beyond that I think it entirely makes sense for Ciri to be the protagonist - its wonderful. Geralt is a great character and had a great story, after Witcher 1, 2, 3, its been well played out. Witcher 3 gave us a taste of Ciri's perspective and playing as her - it seems a natural evolution for her to carry the torth forward. I am sure when we are seeing the live game she will look better, aged up, but looking good. She can be a little rough around the edges, but she will still be the Ciri we love.

My problem is with looks and voice, she seems to have aged too much

It was emphasized multiple times in the books that pretty much everyone who knew her would never consent to her going thru the trial. Geralt alluded to it being unnecessary in a conversation with Calanthe. Triss wanted to stop even just the prep.

Would have loved to play Ciri as a Sorceress, I only hope they up their game on the magic and sword play after the Witcher after 2 and 3... I found 1 far more enjoyable (for combat).

Ciri makes more sense than Geralt for an RPG protagonist. Geralt was a very stubborn character who would always make the same choices. Ciri is in a spot where she is finally free to pursue her own path and we the player can choose who she becomes.

Why not replay all Witcher games before the release?
Also as for the drama, i don't care for it, but personally i just wanted something new.
I made my Ciri empress and that story ended for me, but now they retconning my choice and i hate that.
Im happy for people who are exited for it, but im just not.

I don't think Ciri is too powerful. The way that magical abilities seem to work in the world of the Witcher, just because she is capable of unparalleled acts of magic, doesn't mean she can just casually take out any given foe. No one's ability to use magic seems endless. I think about it a little bit like super strong people in the real world. The strongest man in the world can lift 496 pounds... once. He can't just casually walk around with that much weight. Similarly, Ciri can almost kill herself saving the world at the end of the last game, but that doesn't mean that she doesn't have to be careful and strategic with her abilities. She has limits already.

First of all, they making W4 in unreal 5 is the the look already different. Secondly, she is age up from 21 to maybe 30 I guess. Personally, I prefer the mature look.

if you think that a lot of people think that Ciri became ugly you are engaged with too many stupid people, as ideologically captured as the "other side" (no mater the "side") real issue is that cdpr spat into face of lore, and the fact that they downgraded her elder blood power, and made her go through trial of grasses (despite secrets are lost and she is grown up) just to make her protagonist tells me they dont care.... so wont i care about the game

Sane people: She's just older now.
    Anti-woke: She's a man now we're all doomed.
    Woke:(Who cares)
