I have a mint 1985 UR (WR engine) quattro, my son and I travelled all the way to San Marino in it from South Wales in the UK last October to attend the 'Rally Legend' event, it was a beautiful drive over the Swiss Alps and through the Gottard Tunnel etc, we were treated like kings when we were at the event. My son and his partner are going to carry out the same drive this year as we did, although I shall be taking the 'Silver Bird' with some friends on this occasion. See you all there !!
Walter Röhrl... Remembering Monte Carlo Rally back in the 80s with the Audi Quattro ; it was by night in a place called " Lardier " , french alps ; this man made the car howling in the mountains and with the echo , it was just amazing ; what a pilot !!!
The Audi quattro A2 had 420 HP. That was the maximum power out of the 10 Valve engine. The 20V engine started with 450 HP and ended up with 550 HP to 600 HP.
I have an LHD 1980 UR in my garage, with an engine built by BR Motorsports. It hasnt been properly driven since 1995, but the BR engine rebuild was only done about 3000 miles before this. Hmmm. I am looking forward to getting this back on the road. I don't think there are many left in such good and original condition. It was all A ok when I last moved it in 2003. It will need work after standing. I may consider an offer from a serious contender, as it is in the UK & I am in Australia....
The fact that, at the time this video was released. This man was 64 years old, can you just bloody think of it that way, Such precision, such fine control over the car at the age when people are confined to the likelihoods of their homes just wanting to live a comfortable life. Sir Walter Rohrl is doing one of the most darings that one could imagine
Youre so right. I spoke 4 years ago someone I prepare heads for hillclimb for, telling me at an international hillclimb that Rörhl drove just for fun with a ( ur ? Dont know anymore) Quattro up the hill finishing 4th or so without helmet and VERY relaxed. He got out of the car without sweating and walked to restaurant to get a coffee. Lots of other drivers finished behind him and getting out of car exhausted and sweating ...... He told me Rörhl is God regarding vehicle control.. Despite that he said that Rörhl is a little bit arrogant but compared to his fame etc etc its nothing. He also said : still a very nice bloke !!!!
I wish i had a chance to meet him. What a reporter....She stands next to him and she does not realise who actually is that person. Its a legend!!!!!!!!!! She not only met him , she was also a co driver.
@DieBuechlers Thats correct - but there is no S1 in this Vid . It´s the Audi Quattro A2 , the second evolution of the Audi Quattro ( Street Car ) . They started with the Group 4 car followed by the first Group B car ( Audi Quattro A1 )
Walter Rohl is a driving maestro-like all great drivers it all happens so easily for them.Just soooo smooth behind the wheel. And lets not forget that he's driving a car with a lot of weight ahead of the front wheels so it understeers big time!!!
Fuck. That's one thing I have noticed when the quattro is run in ceremonial events - they usually turn off the turbos. WTF, man. We wanna hear the beautiful bang.
Great vid, seeing three legends of rallying. The noise the thing makes is awesome, well captured:) Can't say the same for Vicky - stick to the day job love, you know you were just hideously embarrassing.
@TheMaurideep You are absolutly right . The first Quattro was a Group 4 car , but the first and second evolution both are group B cars . I have a copy of the Homologation Papers .
@subzerostorm actually, he's teaching porsche drivers how to drive a car :) this man is a living monument of motorsport and if you look at the scoring, it seeme to me that steve wonder tried 6 times to press the "like" button. i mean, simply the name must make you stand up, how can somebody dislike a video with the godfather or rally drivers?
@JFBDriverTraining That's why i prefer a "Rally GT3" over a WRC car any day. Of course - the GT3 is slower, but way more fun to watch. And the sound blows you away. It's a litle bit of old school.
@Quattroowner of course, i dont even know if the normal "quattro" have had FIA fiche for B group. and yes the subtile discrimination you wrote is correct, i agree the exact name is S1 E ( like Evo ) 2.
it was beaten by the lancia Rallye, correct, a 2wd mid-rear engine supercharged(no turbo) car based on the lancia monte carlo. the hybrid of this car came the s4, a true monster. do you know one of the audi sport quattro haad a double clutch gearbox back in those times? amazing
It sounds like they have turned off the anti-lag to prevent the turbos wearing excessively. Sadly it means we miss out on all the flames, popping and banging that's associated with it.
Walther Rohrl ..... THE GREATEST, OF HARD CORE PRECISION RACE DRIVING.....UNTOUCHABLE!!..... WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM HIS PARTNER THE RALLY F1, QUATTRO LEGEND......
"Walter Röhrl, Ladies and Gentlemen!" - five words that say it all.
See the is vid " Walter Rörhl " on the channel " Audi France "
Finest driving lesson one could ever have!
he drive the Audi quattro A2 like in old times. Respect for the best rally driver of all times.
A Master at his best.
I would kill to take the passenger seat with this man! Indeed a legend.
Röhrl ist nicht nur Fahrer, er war ein Künstler auf 4 Rädern. Respekt!
War? Ist :)
That gave me goose bumps, freakin' legends, both Walther and the quattro.
Walter, you are a legend.
not a legend, he is the legend!
Walter Röhrl... Remembering Monte Carlo Rally back in the 80s with the Audi Quattro ; it was by night in a place called " Lardier " , french alps ; this man made the car howling in the mountains and with the echo , it was just amazing ; what a pilot !!!
What a legend....
I had a ride up this hill in 2005 with Walter in a Porsche - a thrill for sure!
What Porsche?
"Like it was yesterday" damn fine driving
Iconic car with an even more iconic driver!
that was an amazing good onboard cam!
My favorite pilot and car all time! Two legends, like he says this Audi 4 was a monster
The definition of a "Perfect race driver". Legendary man. Very nice video
Walter Röhrl in a Quattro is the Lord driving a car.
Or Chis Lord in a Quattro is trying to be a Rohrl..check UA-cam. Sorry I don't have umlauts...
could still show todays wrc lot a thing or two. walter you are the greatest!
This is a legend of rallying. A larger than life figure
I am happy to see that the gap between the rear bumper and the chassis on the original car is the same as on our replica :-)
this guy is the real deal. hes a legend. this is a serious video
this is the godfather of all racingdrivers going for it...just for fun and still, sooooo fast. Walther forever!
Let’s give this a like some 12 years later ❤
Awesome , love the Audi Quattro and that sound ! OHH
See the is vid " Walter Rörhl " on the channel " Audi France "
Output should be 360hp (265kw)
Not the first versions of the S1. That was later years.
@@TitaniusAnglesmith This is not an S1 this is a early A2 and had exactly 265kw equals 360hp.
@Melon Berd S1 had almost 600HP... but yeah, they mixed hp and kW
The Audi quattro A2 had 420 HP. That was the maximum power out of the 10 Valve engine. The 20V engine started with 450 HP and ended up with 550 HP to 600 HP.

he s a demon ... i love his style ! and now i m about to buy an old coupe ,and transform it into a quattro ...yuppyeyy
legendary car driven by legend!
The fact that, at the time this video was released. Congratulation for Walther Rohrl!!!!
He is a legend!!!!!
Tks Autocar!!!
63 year old guy driving like this... wow Mr. Walter, much much respect for u
A Legend at the controls of a Legend...
U can see "PASSION" from his face expression..
Immer wieder eine Freude zu sehen und v.a hören!

Super Vid - thx4sharing
Walter is such a stud.
That road looks like so much fun to drive
awesome
I love the wierd off note noise of those 5 cylinder engines...
awesome driving
The legend
Walter Röhrl the Master in the trade and the legend he created, it's the Ford lovers never ending nightmare 🐦 🐦 🐦
I couldn't understand what she was saying under the helmet at the end but I think she was quite impressed.
At 3:00 It gives "Output: 265bhp (360kW) at 7000rpm" Shouldn't that be reversed?
Kw is always higher than Bhp I think
maladsyko No, it's 265 kw and 360 bhp!
Indeed
2 things - 1) you got the bhp / kw wrong and 2) I love that Martini overall!
I bet the old man could still run in the top 5 in the WRC today.
@DieBuechlers Thats correct - but there is no S1 in this Vid . It´s the Audi Quattro A2 , the second evolution of the Audi Quattro ( Street Car ) . They started with the Group 4 car followed by the first Group B car ( Audi Quattro A1 )
The Master at Work!
So what of course the focus would win but the Audi was a major staple in the World of Rally that will never be forgotten.
Walter Rohl is a driving maestro-like all great drivers it all happens so easily for them.Just soooo smooth behind the wheel. And lets not forget that he's driving a car with a lot of weight ahead of the front wheels so it understeers big time!!!
Thats what driver and car were trained and build for!
Awesome!!
perfect uniqe engine sound!!!
A true gentleman driver and one of the fastest ever.
What a legend!...
Damn, compared to modern day video quality this is amateur hour
I love it
great video of twoRally legends!!
Einwandfrei Walther. Deutsche Legende.
Fuck. That's one thing I have noticed when the quattro is run in ceremonial events - they usually turn off the turbos. WTF, man. We wanna hear the beautiful bang.

Can't say the same for Vicky - stick to the day job love, you know you were just hideously embarrassing.
Wonderful... Wonderful... Wonderful.
Now that well over a year has gone, how about releasing the entire onboard fotage? That'd be pretty nice indeed Autocar!
@TheMaurideep You are absolutly right . The first Quattro was a Group 4 car , but the first and second evolution both are group B cars . I have a copy of the Homologation Papers .
Walter Rohrl: todays rally drivers cant touch in driving ability
Not long and our project Audi Quattro A2 is finished , i guess we have to do a little joyride to the Col ... :-)
He's really a great person!
i'd love to see some footage like this of a full blown run with codriver. not enough high quality footage like this to be found.
I think you too busy for this , greetings from hungary. You are the best rally driver in the world
Wow he still has it after all these years.
A legend, indeed.
Man i dont know nonthing about him but i tell yeah one thing he do look like a legend
The producers made a mistake in the car data.
Its 265 kW and 360 bhp not the other way round.
@Nihilus56 Its supposed to have about 360hp, since its the audi sport quattro, and not just the 'normal' quattro with around 220hp.
Little mistake on the info text. At 3:02 it says 265bhp (360kw). It should be 265kw (360bhp)
@Quattroowner i know the quattro sport was a group. B of course but.....the first quattro ( january 1981)was homologated for gr.4.
remarkable the fact he wears a Martini Racing suite :-)
I agree! One of the best.
It is Col de Turini, in the Alpes-Maritimes region in France. (Gran) Torino is a Ford and a movie from Clint Eastwood involving... a Ford Gran Torino.
@TheMaurideep The A1 and A2 Version of the Audi Quattro was homologated for Group B ...
Legend.
Would like to see how much quicker he could go in a current WRX Citroen / Subaru.
this is way better of a machine.
not any faster ...
Linu But much better looking and it sounds amazing
TheRockingRobby i dont think so the s1 is sounding sooo sexy
Linu that's why I said the s1 sounds better

we would like to see the full stage recorded by onboard cam?
@rignrolltrucker It's the porsche martini racing suit ;)
Walther Rohrl ist GOTT !!
I want the whole 16 minutes from in the cockpit. THAT would be sick
AT his age hes still got it!
he is legend,he drive that like he go fast to the store...no problems
@subzerostorm actually, he's teaching porsche drivers how to drive a car :) this man is a living monument of motorsport and if you look at the scoring, it seeme to me that steve wonder tried 6 times to press the "like" button. i mean, simply the name must make you stand up, how can somebody dislike a video with the godfather or rally drivers?
The best race driver to ever sit in a car. Not even MS comes close.
@ThurgoodJankins7 They mixed it up , the Audi Quattro A2 has 265 KW / 360 HP
@Hirschi74 This Car in not an S2 , This Car is a Audi quattro A2 ( Rallycar )
S2 is the ordinary Audi Coupe .
@McLarenMercedes5001 yeah, the sport quattro was the one with crazy power but this milestone in particular was the introduction of 4wd
One of the best
265BHP is very wrong. It's an A2 with 10 valves and has 350-360BHP. The standard road car had around 200BHP and later one's had 220+
Walters car had 420 BHP at the Monte Carlo rally in '84.
@JFBDriverTraining

arggg, I'd love just a non directors cut, straight up onboard video of this!
