Imma forget a few, but Redd Foxx and Dick Gregory are the foundation that gave birth to Fip Wilson. Flip was the first black comedian to truly go mainstream in the late 60's. Had a sketch comedy show that got ratings, won awards and served as a platform to introduce a lot of new artists and talents. Probably the only national platform with attention that black artists could get on and be featured playing a role of their own choosing. "The DEVIL Made Me Buy This Dress!" was probably Flip Wilson's most famous album & line as Geraldine & the name of his comedy album with her on the cover. It was an ironic title looking back and considering how that has become such a hot topic concerning Black men in Hollywood. It was sampled by Three Times Dope on their hit Funky Dividends in the 90's, the part that said "that's the third dress you bought this week".😅

Although commendable for Flip Wilson to build a school in Zimbabwe, did he realize that after the end of white rule in Rhodesia, Robert Mugabe stripped the country of its wealth. The European farmers made the country the wheat basket of Africa, much like Ukraine was the wheat basket of eastern Europe. The few farmers and their native workers and families who weren't murdered, fled for their lives and Mugabe gave the land to his army generals etc and within a year there was famine. Can't remember the exact numbers, but a loaf of bread went from something like 50cents - a dollar to the hyper inflated prices of hundreds of thousands as the economy was ruined and money severely devalued.
