He's talking about Flip Wilson, Youngblood! Flip was one of the first, if not THEE first, black comedian to have a wildly successful mainstream t.v. show on a major network during the late 60's/early 70's. His character "Geraldine" famous tag line was "The devil made me do it!"

Imma forget a few, but Redd Foxx and Dick Gregory are the foundation that gave birth to Fip Wilson. Flip was the first black comedian to truly go mainstream in the late 60's. Had a sketch comedy show that got ratings, won awards and served as a platform to introduce a lot of new artists and talents. Probably the only national platform with attention that black artists could get on and be featured playing a role of their own choosing. George Carlin was a writer/actor on that show, along with a few others (Sort of like Jim Carey on In Living Color before Jim Carey in Ace Ventura - Hollywood isn't original and these patterns repeat).
Flip was fairly successful in Hollywood but his old material (my dad had a bunch of his albums) was real stuff and was every bit as funny as Pryor or Eddie, etc.

"The DEVIL Made Me Buy This Dress!" was probably Flip Wilson's most famous album & line as Geraldine & the name of his comedy album with her on the cover. It was an ironic title looking back and considering how that has become such a hot topic concerning Black men in Hollywood. It was sampled by Three Times Dope on their hit Funky Dividends in the 90's, the part that said "that's the third dress you bought this week".😅

Yes. Flip Wilson had a female persona that he used in his comedy show, named Geraldine. I am old enough to remember because I watched his show all the time. It was great!

So did that episode of the Brady Bunch when the kids wanted to be singing sensations. When they are performing in their matching outfits on the stage, the floor was the same black and white tiles.
The only one episode of All in the Family had both pizza in it and Mikle using a purse. Seemed like an odd coincidence when i was watching reruns when Pizza Gate was happening.

Flip was Flip Wilson. Swinger parties, or key parties, were a thing in the 70s. "Wilson's inspiration for Geraldine's character came from early performances when he would use high pitched voices to imitate women in his acts. The bit got so popular that he decided that he would do well to invent an alter ego".... "Wilson gave his character the name, Geraldine, after a childhood friend that he was very fond of."

Although commendable for Flip Wilson to build a school in Zimbabwe, did he realize that after the end of white rule in Rhodesia, Robert Mugabe stripped the country of its wealth. The European farmers made the country the wheat basket of Africa, much like Ukraine was the wheat basket of eastern Europe. The few farmers and their native workers and families who weren't murdered, fled for their lives and Mugabe gave the land to his army generals etc and within a year there was famine. Can't remember the exact numbers, but a loaf of bread went from something like 50cents - a dollar to the hyper inflated prices of hundreds of thousands as the economy was ruined and money severely devalued. How were the blacks enriched by the political turnover? There was wealth to improve the lot of the average man.
The people, the nation became destitute from another political thug and thief.
South Africa has the same story, the ruination of a country by a new political regime who have little to no experience in governance nor of industry. For instance, why do they have daily power cuts of up to eight hours or more? The rulers threw out any whites who ran the power plants, their industries also, and their incompetency has produced a situation much like in Zimbabwe.
Sadly, they did not have the wisdom to care for the country and its people, of any colour. Indeed it is only just that the majority vote and rule, but now the country looks for charity which is often stolen and is not of benefit to the poor people.
Flip was doing what he thought to be charitable and just, but the system was and is broken on both sides of the world. I pray Mr Wilson, a so very talented comedian and greatly loved and admired and a man with a compassionate and generous heart, rest in eternal peace.

Flip Wilson and Richard Pryor are two different people. Flip is a dark complected black man while Richard is a light complected black man. Both were very funny. Flip had a TV show for a while. Richard had TV appearances, movies and produced albums. I had one. Super funny.
